Came here for dinner and with a large private party going on I took my order to go. The place looks very European with it's brick walls and signage everywhere. A small bar where I waited watching Cricket on tv and trying to figure it all out,kept the pitchers of beer flowing. It's good to see that Polish families are as loud as Italian families as the din was deafening. I started out with a cup of cold red Borscht which was more like a bowl and was delicious,perfect for an early Summer evening. It was sweet and loaded with really fresh tasting Cucumbers,Beets and pieces of hard boiled eggs and redolent of a generous sprinkling of fresh Dill over the top (I love Dill). If my starter was perfect for summer my main was better suited for a cold winter evening, not saying I didnt love it but I will love it even more come December. I had the Polish Platter which consisted of a very nice sized stuffed Cabbage which was full of meat and rice with a very tasty sauce on top, 3 plum potato pierogis, a piece of Kielbasa with mustard on top (perfectly seasoned) and sauerkraut with little pieces of the same kielbasa mixed in. I think the Polish platter here is a good introduction to Polish cuisine. It includes many essential Polish foods including kielbasa sausage, stuffed cabbage, pierogies, and sauerkraut. Surprisingly, my favorite out of the four was the sauerkraut. Prior to tasting it, I had imagined the sauerkraut to be of the hotdog variety and thought it would be too intense to eat by itself but it ended up being just the right amount of sourness. I enjoyed the small pieces of meat and the creamy sauce that came with it. The pierogies were also great. The skin wasn't too thick and while the cheese and potato filling was a little on the bland side, you can dip the pierogi in the sauerkraut sauce to give it more flavor. The sausage was a little salty but had a nice smoky flavor to it. I wasn't a big fan of the stuffed cabbage mainly because I don't like ground meat/meatloaf but that just a matter of personal preference. It was $15 for the platter, which is a little overpriced but I did enjoy it and was full after finishing it. Our waitress was nice and helpful, she gave us some recommendations and they were all delicious. Quaint little place on 85th st in Bensonhurst where I have driven by it quite a few times and nver noticed. I was looking for a place to eat on Yelp and since the reviews where not bad, i decided to give it a try. I am very happy to report i am glad I dined there for lunch. At first, the 6 foot tall waitres was not very friendly, but as I stayed and began to order, she warmed up quickly. You give her a smile and she will smiled boomingly also. There is a little bar in the back to the right and they have an assortment of liquors for anyone. i ordered a polish beer, which was served nice and chilled. i also ordered the polish platter (kielbasa, pierogies, and stuffed cabbage) DELISH!!! It was really good. The kielbasa was flavorful as well as the stuffed cabbage. I am glad i did not order the potatoe pancakes. i would not have had any room!! I could not completely finish my meal, and i ordered a full kielbasa to go, which I ate at home! I would certainly return. It is inexpensive and flavorful.. The 6 foot waitress, sorry dont remember her name, became so friendly afterwards, we started talking and she shared a few proverbs in polish for me to learn. I went here with my husband on a Wednesday evening 5:30PM. Walked in, nice small restaurant and a mini bar with like 6 stools. It was empty and we were greeted by such a lovely waitress! Once we ordered, it started to get packed and the whole place was full and people were waiting for tables! Authentic food and local Polish people getting off work and grabbing beers and comfort food. It was nice! Didn't feel like we were in Brooklyn 86th street. We ordered 2 small pancakes (not small at all), a cup of highlander soup, Polish platter and chicken cutlet! Everything was so GOOD!! This is not fine dining, it's not a hipster's or foodie's paradise. What it is, is a small comfort-food type of restaurant. The service is unpredictable but while the wait time can vary, they are always very polite. I would not come here in a rush; you will notice that most of the patrons come in groups to hang out and some just come for beers and apps. Lots of regulars and mostly Polish folk, of course--- but you by no means get the feeling that you are not welcome if you are not Polish...which unfortunately is the case with most of the other eastern european restaurants in the area. The food has gotten much better. The cutlets are always extremely large and very tasty. The crepes are great, as are the soups and goulash. I also had a fish dinner here that was fantastic. I asked them to make it spicy, since e. euro food tastes bland to me and they seasoned it perfectly. They really do need to work on their take-out. It can take anywhere from 15-60 minutes to receive your food and the delivery guy doesn't always have change. If I was rating the delivery service alone I would give them a 2.5 They have zywiec on tap as well as a few other beers which is a plus. This isn't the type of place that you travel far and wide to visit but it is most definitely worth a try if you live or are visiting the area! read more

I was in the mood for something new and I found polish cuisine! Everything was really good, I ordered the breaded pork and got two free side orders with it. My side orders consisted of French fries and a salad. My biggest surprise were the French fries, to describe them in one word: amazing! We then had some really good dessert. Chris's is one of my local go-to places. Whenever I don't feel like cooking, I'm there. It's got great food, friendly service and a really laid back atmosphere at very affordable prices. I keep coming back for the more traditional Polish dishes which are unfortunately few in number. I'm told the other items on the menu are good, but when you have pierogies and stuffed cabbage this amazing, why order a pork chop? It's ok, but maybe would not come by again. It was a little chilly that day, and with some empty space in the center of the restaurant, the three of us were seated near the door instead. I wanted to move, but my stubborn sister wanted to bear it out and not cause trouble. But why were we not seated away from the door in the first place? The decor is nothing special. Little cozy and romantic. The waitresses were very good after our orders, making sure all is well. That said, be prepared to wait 30-50 mins before you have anything to eat. It's possible that the kitchen is small or someone took a day off. Food is pretty good. Would NOT order that steak again though. I expected a nice big 1 inch rib-eye steak over a grill, or pan fried. What I got was more flame broiled, seasoned over night, and about 1cm thick. With a bunch of grilled/charred veggies thrown on top. It's just not my style. Would also not recommend the iced tea (no flavor). The tartare is very large. I had both the salmon & beef. I think it's low-quality beef, or maybe the beef was still very cold when it was chopped/grinded, but was not impressed. Tastes very good for the price though. The salmon tartare was made well. Both dishes deserved more bread. Both dishes should be considered as part of your appetizer. read more

This Polish Restaurant has an pleasant decor emulating Poland architecture. Although the restaurant is located by the train track at 86th st, the place is considerably ok as far as the noise level. I was intrigued by the temperature level though. It seemed to me that they were trying to save money on heating because the place was very cold. I asked for water and 20 minutes later the waitress brought me fossett water as I could see the fresh bubbles. I had Kielbasa with corn and rice; salty and tasty. I typically don't write reviews and I've been to Chris's a few time. Today was completely unacceptable. When we got there, there was a large party and two smaller parties and only one worker as the others haven't arrived yet. We already knew there would be a long wait and we were willing to do so. The waitress sat us down gave us the menus but no drinks. After we sat down three other parties had shown up along with the other workers. At this point we had been unattended for over 30 mins with no drinks and no waitresses coming to attend us and one party had left because of the lack of service. When the waitress finally showed up to take the orders she went to the last party that had arrived and when she was told that they were the last to show up she made no effort to tend of the other parties that were had arrived earlier and was still waiting to be seen. At this point we had decided to leave as well. My husband believes it was because we were not polish/white and the couple the waitress had attended were. Highly disappointed. read more

We've now ordered twice from Chris's. Now, as a qualifier to this review, I'm not intimately familiar with the ins and outs of Polish cuisine. I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination. That said, I came away very satisfied both times. My wife has dug into the goulash twice now, finding succulent, soft beef and perfectly made potato pancakes both times. My first rodeo was the Chris's Loin of Pork, which was absolutely delicious. The pork itself was a tiny touch overdone, but it was smothered in the most delicious sauce, mushrooms and gorgonzola cheese. When I came in to pick up the order I was greeted and offered a seat at the bar. As I was unfamiliar with the beers on tap, I asked for a suggestion. The hostess hooked me up with a great German beer who's name I cannot pronounce (ignorant American that I am). Second go-round, I went for the Polish platter. Stuffed cabbage, fresh pierogies, some kraut and a kielbasa. A great choice, since I got to try a little bit of a lot of their great food. The restaurant itself is nice, cozy looking and attractive to the eye and has a warmth about it. Can't wait to get a chance to sit down and have a meal here. read more

I did not live in Brooklyn since after Chris opened his restaurant the food is very fantastic. He is a very nice person every time I went in there everything is so clean. But I always order the grilled chicken with grilled veggies and a glass or 2 of Pinot Grigio.
