We popped in on a whim on the way to an appointment and only later read the great reviews. Well it wouldn't have mattered because the food and service were fantastic. The beer was great. The bathrooms were clean and there seemed to be many folks who were speaking Polish which means the food must be authentic! I can't vouch for that but I can say it was great! These guys have awesome European meals. It's not big or luxurious, but any lack of decor is easily made up for by the dishes they serve. Prices are for the most part okay. I don't know why I took this long to write a review for them - been going there for years since it opened; it's an easy choice for anyone in my family because we know the food will never disappoint. All of their food is excellent; the waitresses are all super nice and amazing - I hope they never close because I'm not sure what we would do without them. They are easily one of our favorite spots if not THE favorite spot of ours. The owner is also nice, and the entire atmosphere - except the noisy trains - are all great. My favorite dish is the Breaded Chicken Cutlet with Mashed Potatoes and Coleslaw - their coleslaw is seriously to die for. We just ordered from here, food is good! I'm so happy to have found this place as I was getting bored ordering from the same usual places around & the only polish restaurant I know is in bay ridge (& they definitely were not going to deliver). I used menupages to view the restaurant's menu and when I got my order the pricing was completely different so I had to call to complain. They should really update their menupages profile. Food is excellent. Nice decor. We come here all the time for breakfast and dinner. Bkfst - great prices and really eggs, good potatoes and eggs benedict. However they need to fix bread selection - get some regular toast please. Dinner - i tried many things but my favorite is the fried pork chop w mozz cheese and portabella (its huge and very tasty) pergolis are good, potato pancakes are out of this world, and get the saurkraut with keilbasa as a side no matter what.. wow... really everything is good. Food and drinks are good. Quite authentic. However I have to say this; I found a fish eye ball in my salad. Be careful with the salad you might find a wink or two in it. The waitress didn't say sorry. Before that I asked for a beer list and she said "no" as a response (could have been slight language barrier). I then had to ask her to recite some beers so I could choose one. I ended up choosing the first one she said because asking for descriptions seemed like it would of been an arduous task. Anyways back to the fish eyeball. The waitress did get me a new side dish as a retentive customer service gesture. Nothing comped, or no extended apologies. Best (and only) Polish restaurant in the neighborhood. My dad easily befriended the owner so i am pretty close to the family restaurant. Although, me being Polish, the food is a little off-key when it comes with authentic Polish (must just be the ingredients). Even though the food may take forever to come, it is all fresh and made from scratch. I would recommend getting the chicken cutlet with beets on the side. The atmosphere is very comfortable and unique and it's nice to have a different form of ethnic food in town rather than all the Chinese restaurants. read more

I went to Chris's with my family and my brother's ,together 8 persons ,4 adults and 4children, 2 weeks ago .We are not regular customers to this restaurant,it was only our third visit in the mentioned above composition.Though in the past I have visited this establishment more than once.In general we have been pretty satisfied all those times,as far as the food was concerned However we cannot say the same about the service , which is pretty slow and poorly organized,to say the least.How can it be efficient when only one waitress is working? For ordered food you have to wait a minimum 35-40 minutes .For the menus you also have to wait All in all, you should be happy if your dinner is served within 50 minutes from the time when you got seated. Nevertheless, generally good food and not seldom delicious one, can compensate for the lousy service and a ridiculously long wait . That being said,I made a reservation for the birthday dinner for our 11-year old daughter on Sunday, July 16 , 2017 at 7:00 PM. Unfortunately,on that day not only we had a very "eventful " trip , but sadly enough our youngest daughter stumbled when getting off the taxi, hurting herself and of course she needed to be attended and consoled.So no wonder that we entered the restaurant late. It was exactly 7:36 PM when the waitress told us that our reservation was held only for 15 minutes and our table was given to other customers. How awful! But what shocked and hurt us the most was inexplicably hostile, insolent and at the same time unprofessional attitude of this waitress. We saw 5 tables, 2 of them put together with 6 chairs , still not cleaned, and 3 separate tables , all absolutely unoccupied . But when we pointed them out to the waitress she angrily reposted: "We are waiting for other reservations". Then, a gentleman at a large table , hearing our discussion with the waitress unexpectedly interposed, saying :"We'll be leaving very soon" . But the waitress didn't even want to listen to the man, becoming visibly irritated and trying to get rid of us as soon as possible. This waitress, named Camille, was very rude and unfriendly from the very beginning of our meeting her. She doesn't know the meaning of the rules of savor-vivre , and above all of professionalism. When asked her for the manager, that "infeliz" told us "Come tomorrow". Was it a professional attitude of the service industry employee? Absolutely NOT! But even without a manager around, any intelligent, professional waiter, with human feelings and a bit of good will, would have known how to satisfactorily solve the above problem. Dear Mr. / Ms. Manager /Owner! I am convinced that your waitress Camille should definitely consider working outside of the service industry . SERVICE should be the MAIN FOCUS for ANY EATERY. This woman, unfortunately, doesn't posses qualities needed in this profession. She has no brain to intelligently solve the problem, to which herself has also considerably contributed. How? Just read the following: we spent good 5 minutes in your restaurant , watchfully observing the present guests and ambiance in the restaurant.And what did we see ? We saw that at all the tables the guests had been already served, we didn't see anybody seating at the empty table, waiting for the food. How then was it possible that the guests who were seated at "our table" after 7:15 PM, since our reservation was allegedly held for 15 minutes, have been already served at 7:36 PM or possibly earlier? While in fact from the moment when you are seated to the time when you are served you have to wait a minimum 35-40 minutes, if not more .The answer to this question is very simple: She didn't hold our reservation even for ONE minute.That's why she didn't want to show us which tables were reserved for us, saying "It doesn't matter". Wrong, it did matter a lot, because had she shown us those tables, at which the guests could've possibly been in the middle of their dinner she would've only disclosed how dishonest she was with us. Well, we had a horrifying time and left the place in enormous frustration. Such outrageous, unprofessional service can only discourage potential customers from coming here. Any customer coming to the restaurant wants to have a good time and an enjoyable dinner. Such as we precisely had shortly after leaving your place, in the Turkish restaurant "Istanbul". We got there straight from the street, without any reservation. It would be nothing unusual in this because that restaurant is much bigger than yours. But the area with air-conditioning was totally occupied and we definitely wished to stay in that area. So we spoke with the manager who asked us if we could wait 15-20 min in the area without air-conditioning, and we consented. In less than 15 minutes we were called and comfortably accommodated. I think I don't have to convince you how classy the service we had there was. We indeed enjoyed our dinner and were all very happy leaving that restaurant. read more

This becomes the first restaurant that comes to my mind when I want comfort food. Hubby and I always want to try different cuisines and when we saw this Polish restaurant around our house we were so psyched. I think we have tried all of their authentic Polish dishes on the menu. Decided to go here today and I don't know what happened but we ended up leaving and just getting pizza because we ordered our drinks and 20 minutes later they still hadn't come and we had not even ordered our food yet. We look over to the counter and the waitress is just flirting with the male patrons at the bar forgetting that there are customers waiting at the tables. Great place ! Make sure you get there ahead of time as it becomes packed really quickly! This food is 100% authentic and gives a good showing of polish cuisine . Whether you speak the language or not , you are able to communicate in english and everything is bilingual. The owner is always around checking up as well as cooking in the kitchen . Went there for a late lunch which unfortunately ended up being a diner. The appetizers and soup were superb, but that is where anything good I have to say ends. The place was semi empty and yet it took us an hour and a 20 minutes to get our entrées. The staff was highly inattentive. I was trying to get someone to refill my water and after I expressed my request twice, it still never happened. How are you going to serve someone food and not make sure they at least have some sort of a beverage? Boyfriend's empty beer glass had the same fate. Not once during our long wait did anyone come by, or noticed us trying to flag them down. The only time they were fast is when it came to collecting money. Also, they might want to revisit their table service. We had to arrange our own dish set as the waitress just sort of slapped it onto the edge of the table and left it there. I used to like it here,but when we went on Father's Day we were there from 3:30 ish til almost 10 PM.we didnt even get bread until after an hour of sitting.Then they give a tiny bowl of coleslaw with no utensils and no plates.Finally we get our salad,with no avocados :( My daughter's meal comes out (the wrong thing)so they had to bring it back.my grandma got her meal a little over 2 hrs after,and it wasnt even hot! my dad n husband finally got theirs.Then my mom gets hers and its the wrong order! they didnt even bring out a few of the sides we ordered.There was a pubic hair in my cake!!!!! n then they were trying to make us pay over $115.00!!! we were all going crazy,esp me.we asked to speak to a manager numerous times,all they did was send over a diff waitress a few times.OMG finally,i think it was a manager,who came to the table all pissed off,took the check,ripped it up and said just go with a nasty attitude. do NOT get a burger here this is a place for fresh, home-made tasting polish food. if you are a paranoid and unsure of what to get, go with potato pancakes (out of this world if you know ANYTHING about potato pancakes), pierogies or my favorite classic polish trucker entree - fried pork chop + mozzarella + portobello and fries/mash + coleslaw/sauerkraut. the pork chop is not oily or fried to death but juicy, pan fried and fresh. portobello is nicely cooked too and the sauerkraut is fiiine! blintzes are deelish as well as are their breakfast selections. i always get the potato pancakes though if i'm there for breakfast - impossible to resist and i should know! classic polish cuisine is simple and yummy at heart and this place is wonderful for exactly that. the only reason i took away one star was just because the service can sometimes take a little while if they are busy and they *might* mix up your order or be out of coleslaw... and yeah do NOT get a burger here. just as in Poland, they are horrid (which is funny but true). as for the atmosphere - it's cozy, low key, pleasant and clean. good place to order from or pick-up dinner as well. read more

i ordered take out and waited 45 minutes for a ver simple order. the girl took the credit card info down wrong ver the phone and didn't bother to call back.... she also lied about the order being "almost ready" when i walked in to pick up. when i finally got the food home it was cold.... obviously, so i had to re-heat... which beats the point of take out, doesn't it? potato pancakes tasted doughy. if there was any potato in it, it must have been instant mashed or something equally inappropriate. the only thing that tasted good were homefries and the crab cake. however, if you're going to pay that much for immitation crab meat, there really should be more than 2 bites of it. never never never come here. it's 86th street! there are plenty of alternatives in this price range and you'll be better off at McD's. read more

Exposed red brick walls and faux fireplace, traditional wooden ceiling, bar at the back; I was instantly at ease at Chris's. Service is pleasant and highly attentive and my meal, served on a rustic wood tray, was homemade and filling. I ordered the Polish platter of sauerkraut, crispy kielbasa, and plump potato perogies - oh, and stuffed cabbage that was flavorful with a hint of smokiness. As a regular customer and quite an adequate person I would expect a welcoming and not a hostile attitude of waitresses .I don't expect a smile from a waitress that has been working there for the longest period of time,but listening to obvious lying of the personnel including the owner himself(!) is just offensive .They will make you feel bad and won't apologize to you.To sum up I would recommend not to go there if :1)You are non polish customer .2)You have self respect.
