First time at this location. Great publici parking structure next door, so very convenient. It the heart oh little Tokyo. We're fans of Chubby and have visit a few other locations and styles of cooking. The interiors are typical dark and Asian inspired, thought the lighting was a little off at our table, my section of the table was in shadow. Great friendly service. They kept checking on us and clearing out the empty fishes. Finally decided to join the pair membership and with one more visit we'll be even. With all the hype/overwhelmingly positive reviews, I came in with confidence of a having a pleasant experience at Chubby Cattle. Unfortunately, it didn't quite turn out that way. To start off, let's start off with the positives. The food quality is amazing. It's hard to complain with the mouth-watering marbled meats being dished out at you. The drink selection was solid as well! Proteins and side dishes also cams out very timely. That said, why the 3 star? For a place that markets themselves as an upscale dining experience, there were so many small things that absolutely missed the mark. The most egregious was that as a party of 9, we were only allotted one grill. And that grill mind you, had a finnicky temperature balance in that basically only the center was really hot. These two reasons made it absolute nightmare to cook for our entire party of 9 in a timely manner. And that brings up to point number 2. There's a dining limit of 90 minutes that's tracked by the ordering tablet. With this supposed amount of time to order, we basically decided to "stock up" on things out of fear of reaching the time limit and not being full. This was exacerbated with every protein only coming with 2-6 pieces, which meant it would take appx. 5 plates to feed 1-2 pieces per person at a time. It wasn't until 3/4 into our meal did our server tell us that he could override the time limit. Asides from these two, other things like not having much space to set aside dirty plates, lack of visibility on the grill due to the vent blocking the ceiling lights (thus making it harder to see how done the meat was), etc. made this a frustrating dining experience. I definitely wouldn't call this an upscale dining experience based off my visit here; it's more like an "okay" restaurant that just happens to serve wagyu-- thus the price point. There sure are a lot of reviews here. Some of them seem to be sketch and just shout outs to certain employees. I agree that the staff were friendly though. Originally, we made reservations for dinner. We decided to do a late lunch instead. We joined the waitlist on Yelp and it was going to be at least an hour wait. The restaurant is on the smaller side. We walked around Little Tokyo and slowly made our way here. Silver tier was good enough for me. The menu online shows it's $55 per person, but I guess they raised their prices. The menus had stickers over the prices and each tier increased by $3. We were given an iPad to order from and was informed we can order 10 items at a time. There is also a 90 minute limit. In the end we were able to consume 12 orders of meat, 4 plates of sushi, 6 plates of vegetables, and a plate each of the seafood and signature dish- 24 in all. I couldn't keep track what some of the meats were. Some of the beef was chewy. My favorite was probably the beef tongue. The king oyster mushroom and zucchini were quite thin, so I wished they put more on the plate. There is also a self-serve drink station. I liked the milk tea. We were full for most of the day afterwards and skipped dinner. I don't think I can do AYCE too often, but overall we a nice experience here. read more

One of the greatest Chubby Cattle branch in SoCa! Their menu is one of the most extensive and also most adjustable. Even the silver tier covers a LOT of different cut of meats and is definitely a decent choice (I would say that it got the highest CP value). Situated across from the Japan Village in little Tokyo. This prime location just make this restaurant stand out as there are so many places to walk around after you got a full meal. Reservation is recommended, as the restaurants is not that big. Typical drink included in price. The time limit is 90 minutes. But last order is placed 30 minutes before the end. So you got 1 hour to order. And they used an iPad system, and you can order any 10 items for every 5 minutes. Very convenient as you don't need to find any servers to take your order. We tried all different kind of beef in the silver level. All taste very well. And the salmon hand roll is nice and fresh. Overall a very satisfying meal. The wagyu was definitely of quality, brought me back to my wagyu bbq experience at Tokyo. I like how they don't skimp on the quality for the sushi dishes as well. The price is justifiable. I've heard a lot about the chubby cattle and what can I say? There really does live up to its reviews. We did decide to eat at the establishment of the day of which meant that by the time we got our name on the waitlist for dinner it was over an hour and a half wait. Once you made it to the top of the list, we were quickly seated and this is where we went crazy ordering literally everything off the menu. Of course you can't go along with any of the thin cuts of wagu. I recommend staying on the thinner side since they cook, faster and more even compared to the thicker cuts of meat. The sushi was also really good but the rice wasn't the quality that I usually enjoy eating. I really enjoyed eating the yellowtail sashimi and the hand rolls were also very well-made. It was nice that they had the drink bar available where you could get up and get whatever drinks you want and had an ice cream machine available. One of the highlights of our meal was the Tom yum soup. The broth was all seasoned and flavored well and it was nice that it came with shrimp and squid. We also really enjoyed the Wagyu burger. It was very cute. The desserts were also amazing. We really enjoyed the Earl Grey sponge cake, and the egg tarts. I would say this is a great experience for date night or two go out with a few friends. I love the Chubby Cattle institution and always take family/friends visiting to eat here. They consistently serve quality food and every single side dish is done well. Even the truffle fries (which some may argue just fill your stomach) are extremely crisp and well balanced with the truffle. My favorite meats are the beef tongue and the australian wagyu. I've been to Chubby Cattle about 10x now and will say that my servers are also always top notch and more personable than most restaurants I go to. I love them, but unfortunately I probably won't be going back to this location. Everything is still amazing, but it does have less of a selection than the location in Rowland Heights or Cerritos, and they always seem to have sold out items on their menu. There's 6 dessert options but I got there at 3pm on a Friday and were sold out of 4/6 of them. I go here when I'm hanging out with company around the area, but will always try to go to the other locations. How was my first experience at Chubby Cattle? It was wonderful. First off, thanks to the staff and especially Jonny (had a different way of spelling Johnny) our waiter. He took great care of us, great service goes a long way. The other staffers were cool too, always dropped off our meats, picked up the empty trays and changed out our grills multiple times for our party of 7 on Veteran's Day holiday dinner. At first, it was a bit overwhelming with all the Wagyu meats and the limitations, the non-limited meats, sushis, appetizers, etc. we first went through all of our A5 Wagyu limited cuts first. We then had the all you can eat meats, sushi (and carpaccios), and other sides which were perfect! Overall had a great experience. Was it a bit expensive? Yeah it was, but it was worth it. You can only eat so much Wagyu, it's super rich, but you have other beef cuts, lamb, pork, chicken, some seafood, and other items! There's a parking lot next door and metered spots. I had been to the Monterey Park location before and noticed the menu was different at the Little Tokyo location. They had a much more limited A5 selection but otherwise it was the same. The normal wagyu options were still amazing. Super high quality beef and melt in your mouth. The salmon, tuna and yellow tail nigiri were top notch as well and also ayce. Came here on a Sunday afternoon right around opening time so there was no wait. Inside of the restaurant was clean and suavely decorated for a classier atmosphere, and the service was pretty solid. My server was named Johnny B. and he was a great guy; he was engaging, friendly, and explained the process to us very simply. He also helped take over the cooking when he noticed our table getting busy. Most of the meats melted in your mouth. We tried all of the beef options on the silver menu, but our favorites were the: otoro, top blade, and brisket. We did get our grill changed once since the meats were started to stick to it, but the meat not being marinated helped reduce grill changes by a lot. I never understood what people meant by "you can tell high quality meat apart from regular quality" until I had the meats here. Great marbling on all of them. Sushi and other options were surprisingly really delicious too! I wasn't expecting much from a BBQ spot, but the nigiri and hand rolls were good quality and had decent rice-fish ratio. I literally got 5 platters of salmon carpaccio just for myself... For the appetizers/hot dishes, we especially liked the: garlic enoki (suuuuper garlicky and spicy, very flavorful), chicken cartilage, truffle fries, wagyu rice (the broth + rice mixed together is a chef's kiss), and chicken karaage (nice breading, ample chicken and yummy sauce). The only dessert available (besides ice cream, standard soft serve) was the earl grey Swiss roll which was very light and fluffy! Perfect amount of sweetness.
