Was able to get a reservation for Chubby Cattle for a birthday this weekend. There is seating downstairs and upstairs. I was seated upstairs. Winston was our server, and you are asked if your a member and what tier you would like to order from. This was my first time, so chose silver as there's a lot of food and drink to go around. You are allowed to order 10 items every 7 minutes. Winston gave us an hour warning mark and at 70 minutes it was last call. You have a total of 90 minutes. It is a lot of food, and the standouts include the wagyu sushi, brisket, salmon carpaccio. Fruits was fresh and sweet. Wish I could stomach more, but it was just too much. Overall 3.5 / 5 We went here after doing some shopping around the area. The 2 girls at the entrance were on their phone and looked like they didn't wanna be there, not as welcoming. The waiter brought us upstairs and explained how the system works. It was pretty good but confusing. They start like a 90 minute timer but if you're new then you kind of don't know whats going on so I didn't like that part. The waiter would only cook in the beginning and we had to self cook ourselves. The fried rice took a while to come. The lobster rolls were really good. They got a nice selection wagyu cuts. There are extra vegetables in the back along with miso soup and they also have an ice cream machine. I didn't like how when you're cooking your food, there is no overhead vent like at other hot pots or kbbq places. So the smoke would like easily go in your eyes and idk it just wasn't as pleasant of an experience because of all the smoke- they need better ventilation. Also the tables are positioned far from the seat so you really have to lean forward and your feet don't have much space so your knees are touching the front of the island table and it's just not an optimal seating positioning (this is hard to explain but let's just say the seats are permanently placed slightly far from the table so you have to lean forward). Other than that the food was decent overall. Our waiter did his best despite the things out of his control. I'm pretty sure they forgot my fried rice because it came like 30 mins late after I asked multiple times. I don't really want remove points for that because it was probably short staffed but it was a Sunday so wasn't really that busy as there were a lot of empty seats. Idk I just didn't liked being rushed to eat and esp if the foods not ready and esp since the fried rice was delayed it felt kind of messed up that you put that 90 mins timer when you're not really ready yourself. I would've tipped extra or paid more for a cooking service because I really don't like to cook so I had my wife do the cooking for me but idk I just think that delays things esp if you got a 90 mins timer. Overall I'd probably recommend this place as it has a lot of potential. They have nice beer selection; was surprised they had import beer from Kyoto. Value: I get that it's wagyu but id say it's pretty expensive for what you get and the service. Plus when you pay, the waiter stands in front of you with their payment machine and waits for you to pick the tip choice on the mini computer screen so I didn't like that as that pressures you to pick a higher tip count idk. I prefer old school where you get a paper bill and pay with a card then they should come back with the paper reciept and then I'll pick what tip. And it's weird because they don't even keep cooking all the way so what am I even tipping for if we (my wife) have to cook the food ourselves and get up to get our own drinks and vegetables and what not. read more

It's mostly self service, they had the standard sides. Eric was very helpful. Eric changed our grill and was very responsive when we were looking for someone to assist us. Great service and good quality of food. We did the gold tier and it has decent quality of food to choose from. I would say for someone that can't eat as much you can stick with the silver tier. The gold tier additional items were not really worth it. The Hokkaido uni and lobster roll was very disappointing. Some of the American Wagyu cuts were too chewy and disappointing. They have a small hotpot option that I thought was nice to diversify between hotpot and bbq. The drink station with unlimited milk tea is good. I would say that they hold you to the 90 minutes limit and give you a bill at 90 minutes before you even finish your food. We were unsuccessful getting reservations in LA so when we saw the Chubby Cattle in SoHo we had to make a reservation! The Chubby Cattle has been opened for 3 weeks. Made our reservations on the same day. We chose the middle Gold Tier. We started with the choices in the Gold Tier. A5 Miyazaki short ribs, A5 Miyazaki rib eye. The Wagyu Uni Caviar Nigiri was the star dish for me. All were delicious melt in your mouth quality. Shout out to Christine who explained everything to us first timers. She helped us order on the iPad and cooked for us the first round of special choices in the Gold Tier. You can order 10 items every 7 minutes. There is a limit of 90 minutes. Christine came by to let us know when we had 30 minutes left and ordered anything else that we wanted. Many choices in the all you can eat sides....I liked that they had lettuce and Kim chi so you can wrap your meat in it. The curry is also yummy. The meat is generous and so soft. They offer three tiers of all-you-can-eat meats; we went with the Silver tier. Once seated you choose the tier of AYCE you'd like - we opted for their most basic silver tier and quality and choices were still amazing! They offer a good variety of small appetizers and hot foods at their buffet, drinks and desserts that are out are included in the price you pay. We tried a variety of cuts, and when we started to feel a bit full, we switched things up with some salmon and yellowtail before continuing on. My kids had the fried rice and absolutely devoured it. The server would forget some orders and he pretty spoke as fast as possible about the whole process, had no interest in properly communicating. The table barely had space for all their clunky large plates which were unnecessarily large for the amount of food they put on it and they didn't even clear them unless we flagged them down to take it all. We did walk in for dinner for 2 people at 5PM, we arrived at 4:50 and were seated within 10 minutes. The staff was friendly, our waiter explained everything including the differences in menus. Everything is ordered either electronically on the screen at your table OR they have some options also available at a self service station. The restaurant is bright and clean, and made me feel like I was in Japan again. We opted for the silver tier, which still included plenty of meat options, as well as other dishes like sushi, soups, and other rice dishes. The meat was absolutely delicious, we enjoyed every cut that we had. The sushi was also pretty solid for a restaurant that prioritizes meat. Honestly, for the price, the quality was excellent, 90 minutes is plenty of time to eat your money's worth.
