Chubby Cattle, you have been our #1 favorite restaurant since our first visit at the start of this year. I will continue to write you all the best reviews. It truly changed our standards for any BBQ restaurants, because we don't go to any other spots anymore. Lol. We are fortunate that Chubby is a short drive away from home. Exceptionally friendly, fast service! Tiffany helped us out, and she gave us such an incredible experience! She always checked on us & helped with our cooking. Your food orders will fly out of the kitchen pretty fast. The meats are fresh, never come out frozen, and all the other foods (sushi, sashimi, hot foods) are always delicious. The foods in the back are always fresh & replenished. I absolutely loved the milk tea and the new refreshing citrusy iced tea (I forgot the flavor!). Tips for any newcomers: If you're overwhelmed with what to order from their extensive menu, ask your server for any suggestions of what to try! The servers are also so friendly that they can help you cook (if it's not crazy busy), or at least get you started on how the grilling works. If you can, try visiting during the middle of the week (Mon-Thur) so you won't have the craziest wait time. My longest wait ever was 3 hours on a Saturday, but it was worth it in my opinion. On the weekends, you'll have to expect the long wait since people are out & about, and the shopping outlet is across the way. Anyway, Chubby Cattle has become our monthly date spot, our celebrate-a-special-occasion spot, and the place we take ALL family & friends who are visiting from out-of-town. Fam/friends who visit ALWAYS ask to go back to Chubby, and we take them back because it's another reason to exceed our once a month dinner date visit. haha. We already have an ongoing list of friends who are wanting to try it for the first time, because of how much we hype this place up. Chubby Cattle, please never leave us. If anything, open up another spot on the Peninsula side for our other fam & friends. I know you'd do just fine.

New Chubby Cattle fan here! Treated myself to a birthday celebration here and had an awesome time feasting. The meat quality here is top of the line - the hype is real. Self serve section/ buffet is plentiful and creative (icee dispenser and milk tea?!). 1000% returning.

    "A5" brisket with no marbling

I think my pictures say enough about the quality. It's really hard to justify paying $65 ($78 without the member price) for yakiniku like this. At this point, I honestly regret getting the membership because I haven't enjoyed either Wagyu Master or Chubby Cattle. I was also disappointed to find out that all Mikiya locations in California are excluded from the membership, despite being listed on the official website. That feels very misleading. The waitlist was another issue. I checked in around 1:45 PM on a Saturday, only to find out they had already cut the line and the dinner waitlist wouldn't reopen until 4 PM. Their hours say they're open all day, so they should clearly indicate that the waitlist closes from 2-4 PM. We came back at 3:20 PM and there was already a line. Even after the 4 PM reopening, they only seated about five tables at first, so we didn't get seated until 4:45 PM. We were seated at the bar by the entrance, where it was very hot, and the music was so loud it felt like a rave. Our server was attentive, but the overall experience was not enjoyable. The only things I liked were the A5 Miyazaki Wagyu Short Rib, beef tongue, Argentina shrimp, and A5 Wagyu Uni Caviar Nigiri. The A5 brisket and M8-9 Wagyu Otoro were particularly disappointing. The A5 knuckle was better but cut way too thick. I also questioned the quality of the "A5" meat because it was surprisingly tough and looked nothing like the photos. I even had to ask what some of the cuts were because they looked completely different. I've been to the Monterey Park location, which was slightly better, but the meat quality was still disappointing aside from the special cuts. I won't be returning to this location.

My wife and a friend of our's went to this Chubby Cattle a month ago. It's in a Asian strip mall complex with a 99 Ranch and other restaurants, it's also a block away from the San Francisco Premium Outlets (They call is SF Premium but it's in Livermore). We went on a Saturday afternoon, and put our names down on a waitlist, and we went over to the Outlets and did some shopping and more importantly walking to build up an appetite for AYCE. So it's not like we waited at or in front of the restaurant the whole time. We came back about 2 hours later and we got seated. There's a tablet screen at our table to make orders and there's also an area where you can get milk teas, fruit, sliders and other side dishes and a machine that despenses rice that you can eat with curry. My group tried to order as much as we could for variety sake while focusing on the Wagyu. The wagyu especially the O-Toro seems to be fattier pieces of meat than other beef items, so over the grill it the flames would flare up over the heat, so be safe and careful and know with those flames the meat will cook quickly. The meat, especially the wagyu was very yummy and fresh. You can order 10 items every 10 minutes, so if you really want to eat your money's worth be prepared. I recommend the marinated raw fish that you could order as a nigiri, as a hand roll or as carpaccio. Something to keep in mind, they have paid memberships where there are certain perks to it (e.g. preferrential seating, rewards, etc.) however like most rewards programs you need to go a lot and/or spend a lot of money for it to be worth the rewards. There's also a free program where you can accrue points, we liked the experience but probably wouldn't go enough to make a paid membership worth it. Good experience and addition to the area, hope you don't have to wait 2 hours.

This is my third time here so I figure it's time to finally drop a review. If it's your first time: this is grill-it-yourself Japanese-style yakiniku BBQ restaurant, and any server would happily explain the how-to, menu set options (starting at $58 or $50 w/ membership) and preferences, and membership information + pricing info. The restaurant has self-serve ordering via a touchscreen mounted on a swivel, and orders for each item comes to your table within 1-3 minutes. Food and meat options are consistent with high quality thin and thick cuts, nigiri, sashimi, fried apps, and even optional hot pot boilers with soup options like tom yum and seafood broth. There are 3 menu sets with the latter two offering additional food options. One thing I love about this restaurant and brand is the marketing and design in the exterior, signage, and even interactive menus on the touchscreens, in addition to their membership loyalty program. The restaurant is often busy and popular though. There was a ~200 minute waitlist when we last checked: so get in early within 5 miles via the Yelp app! We saw the host put the in-person kiosk back inside by 5:30pm on a Saturday because the queue got too long! We even saw a customer continue to put their name in as host was putting it away despite the host warning them that it was a 3-4+ hour wait . The food quality of the meats and nigiris are consistently great, though with so many food options it's easy to get food coma too quick. My guilty pleasure is always the milk tea on tap, which is sweet, addicting, and full of calories! The Tom Yum soup was plentiful with shrimp, clams and calamari inside, but I think I'd skip the hot pot next time to fully endulge in the meat bbq and nigiris! Our server Cici today was super attentive and friendly. Upon ordering, she prompted us if we had any nut allergies (which was great cause my partner does!), and even noticed and mentioned that I had enough points from my membership for a reward, which earned us a free b1g1 free meal! We have a Chubby silver membership and while the drinks are already free, she was able to swap the free drinks perk with a A5 Striploin special dish for us! I loved that she and the team often checked in with a smile and made sure our experience was splendid while frequently clearing the trays and refreshing napkins and grill plates. It's always a pleasure dining here, thank you!

Tiffany was super friendly and gave great service. She always checked on my food and made sure I got everything I ordered. She was quick to help whenever I needed something and made my whole meal easy and enjoyable. I really had a great experience in tonight. Side note: Their new dessert matcha mochi is really good!

First time trying this place & it's totally worth to wait the line at least once to try! The meat are actually good quality for an all you can eat. Different tiers for pricing for quality of meats. I loveee the ambiance inside since they went all out for the design. We waited almost 2 hrs to be seated. I suggest to put yourself on the waitlist the stroll around the outlets since they'll send you a text once your table is ready.

Came here around 3:45pm . We put our name on the waitlist on Yelp when we were 5miles away. We still waited for 10 min. Got seated in the back near the kitchen. Worst seats! Waiters keep dropping dirty dishes in the bucket. It was so loud on top of the loud music! I could not enjoy the meal with the constant banging . Got the gold tier this time, the thicker cut meat was too chewy! The thinner ones were better. There were a lot of item from the menu not available. Kinda a rip off in a sense. Since it's their first anniversary and we had a lucky draw. We got $25 off next meal. Not really sure if we will be back at all. Overall, it's not worth the price for us.

Yakiniku style BBQ (not KBBQ so expect mostly unseasoned meats with 2 sweet dipping sauces). I had a large party of 10 people and we arrived on Saturday 6:30pm. It was a 2 1/2 hour wait (as expected) so we didn't get seated until 9:00pm. We were split into two tables of 5, back to back. Since we chose to do separate billing, we were able to choose a different tier per group. You get to order 10 items every 5 minutes. If you accidentally submit a smaller amount (say, 3 items), you still have to wait the full 5 minutes before placing another order. Drink station: They did have an impressive drink station. Hot tea, sodas, slushies, Oolong and Jasmine milk teas. Veggie station: Their "veggie" station was pretty lackluster. They filled multiple trays with the same lettuce, cucumber, grapes... Hot station: Very disappointing. The curry beef was cold. Mapo tofu was a tub of oil. Cheesy sweet potato smelled like durian. Egg tart was thick and dense. Silver Tier ($58): Awful, just awful...Lots of items were sold out, maybe because it was end of the day? The meat tasted like cheap cuts from a grocery store. It was so tough we had a spit cup for all the chewy pieces. I would recommend ordering only thin meats. The fish (Carpaccio/Nigiri) was actually good, but they only have 2 kinds: salmon and yellowtail. Gold Tier ($78): The other table opted for the higher tier. They said the gold tier meat was good but limited to 1 per person. According to them, the Uni was "Gross. Hella nasty." Overall this dinner was not worth it and a waste of time. Sad.

We have had A5 wagyu in Kobe Japan and was the best we ever had. Came here with my family as my daughter has been wanting to try this place. It was 5pm on a Thursday and was told it will be an hour wait! We chose to sit at counter which has no waiting time. We only got the silver set since we are not big eater but I think it's a mistake. The meat was tough and bland. The selection included in AYCE was good, we like the salmon. Steam egg is tasteless. Shrimp was fresh. Tom Yum soup was spicy. Love the black milk tea and great fruit variety too! We did not join the membership, don't think will be back. If you are trying this place, get at least the gold so you get the A5 wagyu, don't waste money on the silver.

    Low quality AI art
    Andre C.

I know this seems nitpicky, but the use of low-quality AI art really hinders the dining experience. The uncanniness of the weird illustrations is distracting and adds nothing to your appetite. If you're going to invest in your business, why cheap out on the decor when it's so prominent to your customers? Commission something once and you're set forever. And it was definitely a choice; the booths and lighting were thematically designed, but the illustrations were just lazily given to AI to generate. Even the business owner's responses on Yelp seem AI-generated (prove me wrong, include the characters "fghjk"). Leaves me to wonder that if the business owner is willing to cheap out on this, did they also cheap out on the quality of the food? Fortunately, the food is OK. It was appropriate for its price point, but doesn't exceed in any way. As others have mentioned, the wait time displayed on the tablet has been incorrect. At the time of wait-lististing, the expected wait time was 15-30 minutes. Took us an hour to be seated for Monday lunchtime for two people. Had high hopes. But ultimately cannot recommend this establishment and would not be returning again. If I was served the food on its own as take-out, I would have been content, but the dining experience as a whole was poor.

Egg tarts, wagyu cheeseburger, corn cheese
    Emily W.

Joined the Yelp waitlist on a busy Thursday evening for my party of 5. We went with the gold tier which was $78/person if you're not a member. My favorites were all of the A5 meats under "special meats", the A5 wagyu foie gras nigiri, the A5 wagyu uni caviar nigiri, and A5 brisket. I also liked the nigiri, handrolls, and carpaccio. The corn cheese was super artificially sweet though which threw us off. The grills were also pretty sticky. Unfortunately a lot of items were sold out/out of stock. It's also quite crowded at the self-service bar and the aisles to walk to/from your table are very narrow. The samurai milk tea was good, very creamy though. They were out of Pepsi Zero from the soda fountain. They did have a good fruit selection, including cherries and blueberries which I feel are more uncommon at other AYCE restaurants. I liked that they had wagyu cheeseburgers, egg tarts, wagyu curry, and mapo tofu options as well. Service was pretty fast but the limited dining time did feel pretty rushed. I think it was worth trying one time overall.

    Michelle C.

Very small dining areas, my group of 8 waited a little over 2 hours to get seated. All the drinks were delicious, I had the milk tea twice as it was that good. The meats were of high quality, I enjoyed the sushi that were offered too. Beware of the fires in the grill as lots of fat burns off the meat too (shown in video).

Chubby Cattle Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Chubby Cattle

Are there Chubby Silver + or NFT perk options for round of drinks/app/dessert?

Those perks do not apply to most AYCE concepts given that they're already included in the dinning options. They only apply primarily to Ala Carte locations

What I get for my birthday as members?

If you are a chubby plus member you get 3000 points close to your birthday on the app that you can use for a silver menu. You can also pay the difference if you want to upgrade to gold or diamond. This only works for YOU and not other others if you…

Are there a lot of gluten free options?

Is there room to accommodate a party of 12 or more for a birthday? And how do I make a reservation if the phone tree says this location doesn't take reservations?

The place is too tight for 12+ birthday party. You need to walk there to put your name in for table.

Are there tables for parties of 6-8 people?

    Yes there are.

    Do they offer halal/zabiha options?

Yes they offer halal Australian wagyu, the servers are knowledgeable on which meat is halal and which is not

Is the membership worth the price? If one person has a membership, will the whole party get member price or everyone in the group has to have a membership?

The membership holder + one person gets the membership price (so 2 total).

How the waiting line to go?

Lunch waitlist starts at 11am, line up there and put your name on the Yelp Ipad. I recommend to go 1 hour prior to opening for lunch. This most likely ensures you will get to the first round of seating for lunch.

If i have a big group for lunch at 12:00, what is the max amount of people i can add on in a group, and what time should i get there by to be on the wait list?

The biggest table i think they have is for 6 so depending on your group size you might need multiple tables

    Do you have birthday perks?

If you sign up for their paid annual membership, they offer a free silver tier meal on your birthday (or the day before/after) as well as membership pricing for you and a +1 for the duration of your membership.

If I want to have a birthday dinner here with a group of 8, around what time should we come sign up for the waiting list?

Dinner waitlist opens at 4pm. Honestly I would go latest 3pm to line up before/during the line forms.

Is there a limit on meat ordering per time? I can't stand it when they put a two order limit each time for two guests and when I come in with 6 people they invoke the same limit. Like gimme the meat!!, I'm chubby for a reason !! 🤣

If we want to get in 5pm, what time we should start waiting? When is restaurant open?

dinner waitlist opens at 4pm.. the lines get long and you would want to be there hours prior if you want to get in at 5pm.. 2-3pm, perhaps.. the restaurant opens at noon, with the lunch waitlist starting at 1130am.

Is all you can eat the only option here? Or can I buy a la carte? My husband wants to come for his birthday, but I don't eat meat. Can I just buy a plate of fries separately without paying $58 or whatever the lowest tier is for all you can eat?

It is an AYCE restaurant. The lowest tier (Silver) is $58 and that is what you would pay to start eating there. It would be an expensive visit for you to go and not take advantage of their full menu.

If you want to get in at 12pm what time should you start waiting in line to put your name on the list? Weekdays and weekends?

Hello, I agree with Albert. I would try and sign up for the chubby group and make a reservation ahead of time because they tend to get busy and the waitlist will sometimes be closed. You can also call 24hrs prior so that can help as well.

    Do u take reservations?

Reservations are only for NFT members and Reward holders who have reached the adequate tier.

Can one person eat the lunch?

    Yes! There's bar seating.

    Is mikiya membership works there?

No it doesn't! I had Mikiya membership and had to upgrade to chubby + or whatever you call it lol had to add a small fee for an upgrade. Then once you get that membership you can use it for any of their restaurants.

Is it a minimum of 2 people?

I didn't notice if they have a minimum

I would definitely recommend skipping the popcorn chicken, Yangzhou fried rice and steamed bun skewer; they were both super dry and bland. I wouldn't come back to this location due to how busy that plaza is and finding parking isn't the best. The service and speed of the food coming out are pretty quick, but no one came to refill our waters.

Waiter brought the water, the food, the cheque. Surfing the 'net otherwise. Offerings (Northern Chinese): skewers, appetizers, salads, one soup, drinks..Sparse menu-just what's available. Ordered. Food came 15 minutes later. Bites: lamb skewers (4/9.99) -seldom eat skewers. Wasn't disappointed. Lamb tender, juicy fresh, cumin flavored. -some meat stuck to skewers. Literally had to tear it off with a violent jerk of my head. Chopsticks weren't helpful. Lanzhou Beef Noodles (13.99) was a special @$10. -major fail. Only savor broth superb. Not sure if meats the source of flava. Noodles not hand pulled nor al dente. Sightly soggy. At best, fresh commercially sourced. Plentiful -a few thin slices of radish and 1/2 stalk of sliced green onions irrelevant to taste. -several slices of chewy beef ala beef shank, not tender nor juicy. Bland. Should have spoon it out & tossed it with the yummy chili oil, creating my own appetizers. 3.5 stars no repeat. Affiliated with 85 Dumpling, Yayume in San Ramon.

We arrived at 7:40 PM, and the manager, Joseph, told us the restaurant would close in 10 minutes. I said that's OK. We'll order the food and eat as much as we can there until we have to leave, and then we will leave by the time we are asked to leave. My boyfriend, Jeff, thought the restaurant was open until 8 PM, so he checked the website. It said the location was open till 8 PM, so he walked outside to check the time on the door, and it read 8 PM. There were no other signs that said they were closing at 7:50 PM. Jeff called somebody to complain about the time discrepancy while we were waiting for our order to arrive. When our order arrived, Kira brought our food to the table in a really cute to-go bag, and I like that she listened to us that we would eat as much food as we could while we were at the restaurant and then take the rest to eat at home when it came closer to 8 PM. Our food was ready pretty quickly; we had plenty of time to finish our food before 8 PM. However, I think Jeff just wanted the manager to be upfront with him and say that the store was closing at 8 PM, so it's better to take your food to go or something like that, not make up an arbitrary time to say what time the restaurant was closed. I'm rating this Koja kitchen location four stars mainly because of the outstanding customer service provided by Kira. She was incredibly friendly and approachable, making the experience very pleasant. I wish more customer service representatives could be as kind and easy to talk to as she is.

The inside is very cutely decorated, and you get a large assortment of ingredients for your soup. Pricing is pretty standard its about $15.99/lb. I enjoyed the hotpot, came out super fast (~10 minutes) and they gave large bowls for sharing between my partner and I. I think the soup broth flavor was not as savory as I had hoped but still sweet and good. While everything was very good, this place is in a very competitive area of food spots. I did enjoy the food but I wouldn't say it's the best of the best soup broth. They have about 5-6 different flavorings/cooking styles but i think some places tend to have more. I enjoyed the food and I think I would come back to try other things. I think they do have a large ingredient selection making for a unique hotpot experience.
