It was an experience to try something different. Everything is pretty much self serve; you get a plate and pick whatever meat/veggies you want from the fridge and then grill it yourself. There's salt & sugar by the trays for you to add to your food. Water was lukewarm as it was also self serve next to the tray & silverware. It was very bland as the meat & veggies were not seasoned and you get 3 different "seasoning" at your table: sesame seeds, spicy & "mystery" dry seasoning. We had to ask for soy sauce to give it some flavor. I would highly recommend the cold cucumber dish as that was what we used to dip our meat & veggies in for flavor. The shrimp patties were very good. The table we sat at the exhaust was working but just wasn't angled right as there was quite a bit of smoke coming from the charcoal while grilling our food, which was an unpleasant experience. I really wanted to like this place, but sadly it was not good. I love the concept grabbing the skewers of your choice and cooking it yourself! They charge $3.99 for charcoal, $0.99 per person for sauce (includes items like sugar, salt, sesame, spicy powder, cumin), $1.25 per skewer. You can do a membership which cost $58 for the year. Comes with $10 on first check, fee waived for sauce and charcoal, and birthday treat. Server comes at the end to count the amount of skewer sticks. The amount of meat on the skewers were very small. Yes the cost is $1.25, but the amount of meat and vegetables you get on a skewer are not worth it. Some items have two skewer sticks on it so it cost $2.50 instead of $1.25. The taste of any protein was just okay. I tried so many skewers and it just didn't hit with the taste and I did add the powder they have available. The place was very smoky. Ventilation was not good even thought each table has a vent right above the charcoal. It was hot and there was not good AC circulation. Service was terrible. Went here with a few friends after seeing it all over TikTok, and overall it was a fun experience. When we arrived, it wasn't too busy and we were seated quickly, which was nice. Our server was friendly and gave us a clear rundown of how everything works. There's plenty of space inside, and the setup is pretty straightforward. You pay a coal fee for the grill in the middle of the table and a seasoning fee for the dry seasonings available at the table. About 10 minutes into eating, someone came by to let us know they also offer sauces and walked us through the options--we ended up trying all of them. The concept itself is definitely unique and enjoyable. You grab skewers from refrigerators stocked with different meats, then cook everything yourself and pay per skewer at the end. That said, one downside for us was the portion size. The amount of meat on each skewer felt pretty small, and with four people sharing one grill, the cooking time added up. Overall, it's a cool spot to check out, especially if you're curious about the experience, but something to keep in mind if you're going with a group or looking for larger portions. Tried this new place out the weekend of Memorial weekend for dinner. It was pretty busy! For a table of 4, we waited for about an hour. Two of my friends were here just a few days prior so they knew what to do and went to grab all of the skewers for the table. I recommend 1-2 people go grab skewers for the table at a time instead of all going at the same time. The fridge area can get a little crowded and table space is limited. Each table has a rack with 4 dry seasonings to add to your dipping dish. There were 2 spicy, 1 cumin and 1 sesame seeds. The spicy ones were pretty good! I only wish they had some sesame oil and some sort of sauce too. Everything tasted good. The skewers are small portions but the grill is pretty small too, which works with the portion sizes. I believe each skewer is $1.20 each and they charge by the number of skewers the table eats. We also ordered 3 sodas, 3 items off the menu, and 4 bowls of rice. I forgot to look at that menu so I don't remember the names of the other items. One was crinkle cut fries in some sauce, the other is some sort of fried ball with a creamy sauce and I forgot what the last item was. Pretty sure they charge per bowl of rice. My friend also said they charge for coal change too. For 4, I believe the total was between $160-180? Cool concept, yummy late night option. There's not many late night food options in the area and this place fills an empty void. The space is large and great for big and small groups. We had to wait for a bit so definitely recommend adding yourself to the Yelp waitlist before arriving. Food- I see how the self serve option probably helps keep some of the costs down but I got to say the meats don't look too appetizing when raw. The portions are pretty small on each skewer. Unfortunately our charcoal was very uneven and only ended up cooking 3 skewers at a time. They changed our charcoal a few times but it was very inefficient. The actual cook times for the skewers ended up being 2-3x longer because of this. The skewers were tasty once cooked but the inefficiency got a bit frustrating and with a time limit, I recommend coming while you're not starving. We came in with drinks and wasn't told anything, about 15 minutes into our meal the server or food runner asked us to throw away our drinks, which we were okay with throwing away our drinks with no issue, which the policy is very understandable. Then he suddenly came back, assumed we were Chinese (we're Vietnamese), and started yelling at us in Chinese even though we had already responded to him in perfect English. Met up with a friend, before heading off to a movie. We arrived at opening time and were immediately greeted and seated by a nice young lady. I went the other night after they just opened and surprised at how spacious the place is. They replaced the BBQ house that used to be here. It's $1.20 a skewer and you'll probably have to eat a lot of be full so it can add up quick. Cooking is east, no more than 4 minutes depending on what you get. Chubby Skewers has quickly become one of my family's favorite restaurants! When my dad first told us he joined their membership, we honestly thought it was kind of a waste... but we've already been back five times this year, so it's definitely paid off. As I understand it, Chubby Skewers is a Chinese barbecue restaurant, and the way it works is super fun -- all the skewers are around a dollar each, displayed in fridges where you can grab whichever ones (and however many) you want. You bring them back to your table and cook them to your liking on a charcoal grill. They also have different seasonings to choose from -- my family especially loves the cumin seasoning. Another must-order for us is the cucumber salad. We get it at least once, sometimes twice, because the freshness of the cucumber really cuts through the richness of the grilled meat. There are also plenty of options for people who don't eat meat, including seafood, vegetables, and tofu. And don't skip dessert -- the fried bread with condensed milk is so nostalgic and one of our absolute favorites. This Chinese BBQ skewers restaurant is quite unique. There are over 40 different types of meat and vegetable skewers that you select from several refrigerators and you cook them at your table. All the skewers are $1.30 each. The Black Pepper Wagyu Beef, Lamb and Fish Tofu were delicious. There is also an appetizer menu that you can order from. The things that we did not like about the restaurant were that you had to pay for the charcoal to cook your skewers and you had to pay for the individual seasonings unless you sign-up for their membership on their app. These should be included. Some of the items have two skewers (ie. bacon wrapped enoki), so you have to pay for two skewers for one item (what sense does that make?). There are a number of refrigerator glass doors with food on skewers already in pans being kept cold. You take whatever you like and put it on a tray to take to your table. The restaurant puts a charcoal container on the table and you grill your food to your own liking. Costs are calculated by counting the number of skewers you use times $1.20 each. There is an additional charge for charcoal ($.3.99) and seasonings ($2.99). Memberships are available which then reduces the cost of the skewers to $1.00 each, and no charge for the charcoal or the sauces and seasoning. In addition, you also get 30 free skewers. After doing the math, we figured that if we go 3 times in a year it pays for the membership and then some. We used 26 skewers along with charcoal and seasonings and the bill came to $45.15 including drinks, which we felt was quite reasonable. This is not the place to go if you are a real carnivore as you could then run up quite a bill, but for a reasonable meal it was quite adequate. The place is a little noisy, but is nice and clean. Wait persons are happy to instruct you in how to prepare your food and check up on you often to make sure you are doing it right. Depending on the time you visit, various specials will be available. When we went at 5:00, they did a lottery and the winner got to take 50% off their bill. They have other fun things at other times. They are open till 2:00 a.m. We will go back again as we will be getting a membership since we love oriental foods. 4 stars read more

First time coming here but I definitely would love to come back with a group of friends or by myself in the future. The style of cooking is laid back and made for you to enjoy a conversation with each other and it's definitely my kind of vibe. The selection is pretty good and diverse as well ranging from vegetables, meat, and seafood. We only did skewers for our restaurant visit but we ordered the seaweed salad and it basically came out right away and that was pretty nice. My only critiques: There are ways they can bump up your check for small things like opting in for seasoning for $1 per person and/or using/changing out charcoal for your grill for $4 per table. Not really a critique to be honest but more like a "there's more to the $1.30 per skewer". Each skewer is $1.20 for any which is a reasonable price and you basically pick what you want. The best part is the charcoal grill... it makes a big difference. My favorite skewers were the calamari , lamb and pork belly but honestly all were so good. Service was quick and they were pretty diligent with making sure we had everything we needed. We had a great time! Loved drinking our beer tower while grilling and gossiping! The vibes are very hangout with friends, drink and laugh. The skewers were great. Some of bulkier veggies are a little hard to grill just cause there isn't a ledge or plate that lets them sit easier. The pepper wagyu was good and the pork belly . The shrimp is a must.
