I've eaten and picked up food here at least a dozen times. I can be forgiving if there is a dish that is mediocre. I'm brutally honest when the entire meal is a fiasco. Picked up food on3/20/2022. Pulled pork sandwich was flavorless with no smoke taste whatsoever. Must have been braised or roasted not smoked. Asked for mild sauce and got few drops on the tasteless meat. Tossed it. Beef Brisket dinner had the same problem as the pork. No smoke rings, no sign this had ever been smoked. Ate three pieces of meat and tossed the rest. The French fries were soggy and I ate three before they joined the rest of the food The only edible food was the coleslaw and the rolls that were both very delicious. The chicken wings were overcooked on the outside and chewy and undercooked inside. Very large wings with little heat in the sauce. My wife loves wings and she said these were some of the worst she ever tasted. Maybe this place was sold or lost their chef. I'm puzzled. We both used to enjoy their food. Maybe someone else knows why the food changed. We won't be back for a repeat. Tostada salad is fine if you like iceberg lettuce with chicken. read more

How appropriate that I received an email from Yelp this afternoon saying that my next review awaits, as we had just returned home from the Easter brunch buffet at Chuck's in Darien. I could go on a rave about the things that were both ridiculous and unfortunate about the brunch but will keep it to a minimum. I suppose the silliest was the fact that we were seated in the main restaurant while the buffet tables were set up clear across the building in the banquet room, requiring our party of five (and those of the other diners) to run the gauntlet of employees and customers carrying plates of food and cups of soup while not running into someone not paying attention. From what I was told, seating in the banquet room was for groups of eight and larger. Nothing could be done, we lived with it. Very disappointing and fairly infuriating was the fact that, at best, the food was served lukewarm or cool, depending on the item. I tend to think, though, that those visiting the carving station fared better as the baked ham looked delicious. Whether I had the cheesy eggs, bacon, breakfast potatoes or the mac & cheese, absolutely none of it was hot. Granted, the flavors were pretty good but eating cold scrambled eggs and sausage is simply not enjoyable. At a cost of $34.95, at the very least, the food should be hot. When our server, a fellow named Matt I believe, came to pick up our plates after our first serving he asked how things were. As is natural, two of our party said things were good. I, on the other hand, told the truth and said the food temps were way off. He did report it to the "manager", but what was she going to do? It certainly wasn't going to help us. No omelet station, no croissants, no dessert items and at first we were told that drinks weren't included in the cost of brunch. Indifferent and condescending attitude from the so called manager, who couldn't have cared less about our experience. I'm not being facetious when I say I can and have had better breakfast at Golden Corral. The only enjoyable aspect of this fiasco was that I got to spend some nice time with my son and two granddaughters. This review isn't going to sway the thoughts of those who go to Chuck's on a regular basis, but I certainly hope those thinking of hitting Chuck's next buffet give it some real thought. $34.95 for cold scrambled eggs and bacon, there oughta be a law... read more

We stopped in on a Sunday morning at 9:30 for breakfast. We were a party of four, and there were only a few other people in the restaurant. We had a wonderful server. A very attentive young man who was patient and thoughtful, and did a great job making sure we had everything we needed. Unfortunately, our food order wasn't 100% correct. Overall, it came out of the kitchen lukewarm. Cheese was added to an egg/bacon English muffin sandwich when that person asked for no cheese. Another dish had jalapeños added when it was specific that they should be left out. In addition that dish had a hair in it, which left it inedible so that person went without breakfast while everybody else ate. Biscuits and gravy had decent gravy, but the biscuit was rock hard. The server was apologetic for the mistakes in the kitchen, and took the cost of the dish that had hair in it, off our bill. We tipped the server very well as we did not blame him for the kitchen's mistakes and he did a really nice job. We won't go back as this is the second time we have dined here and the second time we were disappointed. read more

I didn't expect the restaurant to look as nice as it did from the outside. The outside looks like it would be more of a banquet hall but it has a nice bar and grill feeling inside. The homemade lemonade was terrific and made just right. It comes in a pretty big mug and well worth getting one. I had the pulled pork sandwich which was ok. The pork I thought was a bit dry. The bun was average and I thought could have been better if maybe they spruced it up with a different type of bun. Maybe a pretzel bun or onion bun. The gumbo was average as well. Some parts of the gumbo I had a weird taste to it that I couldn't put my finger on. Overall the gumbo was decent. Overall I would go back to try more items they offer. The staff was nice and the look of the restaurant I liked as well. I've had some friends tell me I should have tried some other dishes, so I might take them up on the offer and try some different plates. read more

TLDR up top: Great southern comfort food and spot on service. You're doing yourself a favor coming here. I couldn't have been more pleased by my visit to Chuck's this past weekend. I thought I wanted lunch, so I timed my visit to arrive right at the end of their breakfast hours. However, they were still allowing breakfast orders and that was a great choice after all. I was by myself on a late Saturday morning. The host was super-energetic and I thought I was pacing him on a marathon to get to the table. From there on out, the scene was very relaxed. Louisiana Blues and some jazz playing on the speakers. Spacious restaurant. Good space in between the booth and the table, even for a large guy like me. My server, Lisa, was amazing. She made sure to slip in that breakfast order for me. I finally settled on this Cajun Skillet with Andouille sausage in there. It said American cheese, so I wasn't too sure what I'd be getting -you know how that can go. Then, I got the plate and I was doubtless. Large chain breakfast restaurants should aspire to do what these folks accomplish with their skillets. Those potatoes were perfect, cooked just enough and not overdone. These cheese was gooey and delicious. The andouille was nicely seasoned. Not only was Lisa spot on, but the other staff that delivered the food and helped clear plates were very nice and pleasant. It was a very nice experience. I haven't even mentioned the pumpkin donuts yet. I saw that they apparently have beignets on the first Saturday of the month, so I was kind of bummed that I'd miss them. Then I saw these donuts on their seasonal menu and couldn't avoid trying them. Chuck's Troubled Comforts We went to Chuck's recently. I'd had a taste for biscuits and gravy and we've enjoyed their food for lunch and dinner. Don't go there for biscuits and gravy. What they served might be the worst biscuits and gravy I've ever eaten. When I think of biscuits, I think of the biscuits you get at a McDonald's - resembling bread. Cut in half and able to soak up some gravy. Fork tender. Chuck's are about the size of an Oreo cookie and almost as hard. When I looked closer, I wondered if what I thought was a biscuit might actually be an over-cooked and dry sausage patty. The gravy was nothing to write about either. My wife said she was expecting more bits of sausage in it and more flavor. Our server didn't check in on us either. I've had better biscuits and gravy at a gas station. Just awful. We will not return to Chuck's. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this BBQ/Bar conglomeration. When we walked in, our Waitress (she gave two names, Lynn and Jamie... blond hair, pinkish glasses) was very rude. We came on a Monday night, and there were like maybe five other people there and 3 hours to closing. She came to our table, threw two drink menus down for our 5 people. She rolled her eyes at our request for a food menu, and was very sassy when we requested waters to start before ordering beers. When we did, she questioned bizarrely if we really wanted what we ordered- she came back three times before bringing one beer, each time asking if he really wanted and IPA and not a stout or if he wanted a beer with a different name than the one he asked for. Her attitude changed after our food came out, which was nice. I got a Blackberry Peach Mule, which was refreshing and delicious, and a great balance of sweet and ginger-y. I also got a pulled pork sandwich, with their spicy BBQ sauce (which isn't spicy, but is flavorful and delicious). The sandwich was juicy, Smokey and worth the visit. Will be back!! read more

Last weekend my wife and I came here for lunch. The hostess sat us at a booth, which was very quiet. The server was very nice and kind...,the food was not. The brisket was dried out and difficult to cut or eat. In regards to the vegetable they were just fine. It is very difficult for me to write poor reviews. My friends love this place. I wish I could say the same. We will give them another chance in the future. read more

I had higher expectations from this restaurant as others told me how they liked it. I lived near New Orleans and have become a big fan of Louisiana cooking. So I ordered the Etouffee, as for the Andouille Sausage, nowhere to be found. I added Shrimp and Chicken, both had a fine flavor but the chicken I found dry. The Cajun stew, they skimped on the gravy. The Cajun Green Beans, way, way to many. And way, way to little of the main dish. I came for the Etouffee not half a plate of green beans. Others at the table ordered bbq and enjoyed the flavor. Another at our table had the jambalaya which they enjoyed. On special was the rhubarb cobbler, it came out and the bowl of cobbler was so freaking hot, it would of been nice to know that ahead of time. Strange though, the rhubarb was cold even the ice cream on top wasn't melting. So would I come back, I have to, I love Cajun food and I think this place would offer me the best opportunity to get close to New Orleans cooking. I'll have to move to other items. Overall taste wise, very good flavor. Had those criticisms not been there, I would of given this place 5 stars. read more

The service has slipped here, unfortunately. The last several times I've come it's been lackluster at best. We used to visit much more often, but in recent months have been coming to the beignet breakfast only. I recognize that it's a busy Saturday morning, but staff have been impatient when asking that beignets come before the rest of the meal ("I can't promise that, the kitchen is crazy in there"), or impatient when the wrong dish is delivered ("I didn't take your order"). That last one I can see being partially my partner's fault, because he said "this is wrong" without immediately following up with how it was wrong like he should have (I mean, none of us are mind readers, geez) but the server also had a bit of an attitude. There have been 2-3 times over the last few months where something has come out incorrect: an item had cheese when it shouldn't have; the wrong type of potatoes were brought with the meal; mushrooms were added incorrectly, that sort of thing. Today there was the incorrect skillet plus the potatoes I ordered came out burnt; there's really no way you could convince me they were supposed to be eaten the way they were cooked. And since when everything comes out correctly seems to have turned into a happy surprise rather than something you might be able to expect (and adding on the frazzled, kinda unfriendly, at times snappy attitude of some of the staff) it's not a place I've wanted to continue coming to as often, especially to drive out from the north side. The recent shift hasn't led to my stopping coming here completely--at least, not yet--but it doesn't make me want to come back more often again. read more

I came for the Goose Island Beer Dinner Menu it was amazing! As soon as we walked in, we got served with the first beer and they walked around with nachos. Every beer was thought out and paired really well with the food courses. The pumpkin soup was absolutely delicious as well as the roast pork. Both were my favorites from the evening. It was fairly priced at $50 per person and I'm looking forward to trying their other dinner tasting menus! read more

Chuck's, like many restaurants, are showing the plight of increased costs. y wife and I went for dinner, and to our surprise, WE WERE TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED IN THE FOOD. Chicken Fried Chicken? Very strange piece of chicken, (gnarly and grizzly) but worse, the coloring was an almost chocolate brown.... same with the Boidin Balls. It was a Sunday night and all we could figure was that our food was cooked in old, very very old, oil in the fryer. I regret not taking pictures of the BROWN fried foods we received for this review. My (overcooked and very dry) blackened chicken and blackened shrimp sat atop the most watery sauce I ever had... I am not a stranger to this dish, but what have they done to it? Even the now-watery sauce had little, if any, creole flavor - tasted like tomatoes and water! Not even enough andouille sausage to make a difference.... had to look for the few pieces that they were skimpy enough to put in! So I got dry overcooked chicken and shrimp on top of a tomato and water surprise sauce. New kitchen staff? New management? Not sure but Chuck's in Darien is no longer serving great food like they used to... which is very sad. We used to frequent them often. read more

It was sooooooooooooooooooo great to be able to dine in. We had tried to dine on the patio during the summer, but the wait was about 2 hours. We went on a snowy afternoon and had no problem being seated. Now, the menu is streamlined, but still has the smoked/BBQ/Cajun favorites. I started with a bowl of the cream of chicken and rice soup that was perfect for the weather. They are offering a special for Valentine's Day, if that interests you, and I can't wait for their St. Patrick's Day corned beef ~ last year it was carry-out only which was still the best in the area. Don't forget their 4 day Mardi Gras celebration or the Beignet breakfast. They still offer carry-out, but why do that when you can finally dine-in. I recommend reservations because while I was waiting to be seated, the phone was constantly ringing for reservations ~ which are limited. Took my family all 11 of us last night after we visited Brookfield zoo for the light show. I had blackened catfish with a big salad. It was wonderful everybody enjoyed their meal. Somebody had smoked chicken. Somebody had rib tips. Somebody had a brisket sandwich. There were no complaints somebody had chili everything here was wonderful and the youngest Adam have vanilla ice cream, which was free with his meal. The waitress was great. She did a terrific job. I ordered Chuck's to be delivered out to Miskatonic down the road about 0.5 miles. Initially, when I was ordering food at Miskatonic, I had no idea that it was from here. I got the fried chicken wings with mashed potatoes and mac and cheese. The chicken wings were fried with a batter like chicken tenders, which was a bit different, but still good! Mac and cheese was classic, reminds you of the KFC mac and cheese. Mashed potatoes were also solid. read more

Our catering service from Chucks was flawless from start to end. I met with Ivan to get a better understanding of the offerings initially and that was very informative and helpful. On the day of the event, the delivery was on time, the servers were excellent and did whatever was needed to help the party run smoothly. The food was outstanding and all our guests were so impressed! The pulled pork, brisket, and chicken was done to perfection. Everyone loved the Cole slaw too! The buns, from Turano, are top notch fresh and complimentary to the meats. Clean up was a breeze and I just can't say enough good things about Grace and John, on site along with the delicious food. Chuck's will be a choice in the future, that's for sure. read more

Made a 6 person reservation for Thanksgiving. 2 days prior tried to add on a 7th person and was told no. When we arrived there were so many open tables and additional chair at the bar. Also overheard a customer stating they just reserved their spot earlier that day. We actually could have fit a chair at our table. I have gone to the Burbank location for years. I have been to this location three times and I may not go back. We ordered breakfast and the service was extremely slow even though the place was not even full. Our server was so slow. We thought she forgot about us. When we ordered food came out fairly quickly but some of the items were not up to par. I really like Chuck's but I need my food to be hot, Chuck's need more sides, and I need my food to be more consistent. read more

I don't know why this place isn't rated higher, but I'm here to tell you they're underrated! We've eaten here at least half a dozen times, and it never disappoints. The value for what you get, especially where BBQ is concerned, is fabulous. Their sauces are also super good. We especially love the Honey Chipotle, North Carolina, and Buffalo sauces. Not only is their BBQ great, but they have awesome desserts too. We've always had positive customer service experiences both with eating in and when ordering takeout over the phone. Food is always OK and atmosphere is always OK Ive taken my family there 6 or 7 times because its generally good food with good service, but mostly because my son was friends with one if the waitresses. Went for the Easter Brunch buffet with my daughter. Did not expect anything fancy from a bbq joint so when I saw the classy setup and amazing food I was impressed. Would have liked to see more breakfast options though, but was lovely. Would have given 5 stars except the service was horrible. By that I mean I had no service at all. Our initial drink order was taken, and that was the only time the server gave us the time of day. However, for the party of 7 behind me, she was CONSTANTLY there throughout the 90 minutes were were there. I would estimate she visited their table 20 times, asking if they needed anything and bringing them items. Many times I tried to catch her as her back was turned to me as she walked swiftly away from their table. I'm very pregnant so I wanted a refill of soda, my daughter and I later wanted some coffee, I had a question about condiments, etc. When she brought our check it all made sense why we were not attended to, the gratuity was included in the bill at 18%. I had a question about the tax that she was unable to answer, so she sent a manager. I expressed to him that I was surprised to see the tip included when I had no service. He completely ignored that comment and stood silent, and held a machine telling me to pay him immediately. So I went into my purse and handed him my card. It felt like that just because I had a question as to the tax rate in Darien that he thought I would leave without paying or something! Very unprofessional. read more

Three of us went in 4:45 7/26/23. Were greeted and seated right away. Took 10 minutes for someone to come to our table. Two servers walked by with no acknowledgment. Not even a " be right with you". Finally server came. Will say he was very accommodating. Food was ok. You pay for sides now. I think if you order a sandwich/ burger you should get at least fries with that with no up charge. I mean c'mon. Balsamic dressing was old and oil and vinegars were rancid. Went to pay and the iPad was used. Tipping began at 20%. Not 15%, but 18%. Again, c'mon Chuck. Substandard service and then forced to tip 20%. Admittedly we have not been to Chucks since last summer. Service and food were substandard then. What a shame that we won't be back. We are long time customers from the very first Chuck's, then the newer Burbank one and then Darien after we moved out to the burbs. Only seen decline over the years, and this one never really impressed us. read more

Second time I was here. First time was good. This time absolutely not. One of my party said her food was very disappointing. Another ordered brisket and it had more fat than meat. Two of us ordered the 3 meat sampler ($25.00) and it was delivered cold. Mine was also missing the bar-be-que sauce which should have been on the side. When we finally got the waitress to come back my friend asked for a hot meal and I said to just take mine back and remove it from the bill. The waitress said "No. We will only replace it. ". Had Easter Brunch today. I am handicapped and use a walker. When making the reservation my daughter was told we'd be in the room with the buffet. We were not. We were as far from it as possible. I could not go to the buffet because of the crowd and distance. My husband and daughter had to bring me food. It sucks to be handicapped but especially in today's world with so many unkind and uncaring people. A coworker said I'd like the place, and that's true: the space itself is pretty cool, kinda a sports bar/NoLa feel. Music is a classic rock on a TouchTunes jukebox. Place is clean and kinda fun people. And my bartender Maria was awesome and friendly even when it was busy, she's a great barkeep. But I've been twice now and that's likely it for me. And judging from all the trucks and mobile catering vehicles I doubt I'll be missed, but I was underwhelmed by nearly everything. Six raw oysters: $13. Hey, I've paid close to that in a number of places. But these weren't Chincoteague Bay or BluePoint or Belon, these were garden variety gulf oysters and tiny (nickel/quarter size). That's a crazy price for something you can get for 50 cents an oyster at a lot of happy hours. My "voodoo" margarita was a standard jigger pour, pint glass marg so sweet and average that it wouldn't be out of place at a TGIFridays or a Chili's--nothing special. The Cajun crab cakes looked promising but were so soggy and texture/flavorless that had they been put in front of me without telling me what they were I would have guessed potato pancakes. Literally nothing about them said 'shrimp' or 'crab' and when there's no crisp to the thin cake putting it in a drizzle of aioli only accentuates the sogginess. I thought the ribs were solid but not spectacular and even that didn't come off well because they started me with some bread (not sure if it's house--made or not) and while yes, it was hot, they were so incredibly chewy they had obviously been under the heat lamp for a longggg time. I so wanted to like it more than I did but there's not much to make me think I'll be back. Love tap beer and they've got like 35 on tap, but that's not enough if I'm going someplace I want to eat. read more

I don't understand the bad reviews. I come to Chicago regularly for my job, I live out of state. I make it a point to go to Chucks Darien or Burbank, whichever is closer. The food is phenomenal. Sometimes they make you wait a bit for the food, due to being busy and short staffed. I don't even mind, the food is worth the wait. I love Chucks! read more

Canned green beans and store bought gnocchis with a flavorless voodoo cream sauce. It was inedible! And the worst part was the 4 course meal took 2 hrs to get to us, even though the restaurant was half empty on a Wednesday night. read more
