This is my second time trying chula seafood in a different location. I ordered a poke bowl and I was really happy with my selection. The fish is good, fresh and all of the ingredients taste good. I just think it was a very little portion of the fish. I like the fact that you can also order some fresh fish to go and cook it at home.

Easy ordering at counter. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Comfortable interior lots of 4 person seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Fresh poke, lots of fun options. We had the Yaki Poke and SW Salmon poke. Both were excellent. A little pricey but the quality is there. $60 for 2 with a couple oysters and a beer.

I live close to Chulas so usually pick it up to go but have eaten in before. It's in a little strip mall on Roosevelt and Hayden. This is the original location that haas been there for years, but they've expanded to a few other locations. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This location is small but it's cute and the staff is really friendly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] You can order online for their regular menu but they had some specials this weekend (sign up for the emails because you can see the specials at leach location and you get a code for a free cookie for your birthday) so we called in. Food was ready in 15 minutes. We got the lobster roll which is Connecticut style-my preference-with lots of butter! They had a fish and chips special so we got that too. And a pb&j cookie for my birthday! My husband very recently broke his leg so picking up Chulas with some great lobster was a nice treat! It's not inexpensive but you get what you pay for. Very fresh, high quality seafood. They have great poke and a great fish market if you want to pick up raw seafood to cook at home. Definitely a little gem in SoSco.

Second time coming here. Today I got the spam musubi and the Dan Dan noodles with ahi. The spam musubi had an excellent flavor! I was impressed. I've had a lot of spam musubi and it was great! The only odd thing is that the rice is not warm. It's not cold and hard but it's cooler than room temperature. I still give it a thumbs up! The Dan Dan noodles also had excellent flavor. The fish was fresh and the large portion was definitely filling. The food came pretty fast (although it was not busy on a Sunday evening).

I love Chula in uptown so when I knew I was close to one, I was very eager to go! I'm very happy I did stop by. It's quite different from the one in uptown and that made me excited more. And Sunday all day happy hour is awesome as well. I got the Korean poke, it looks huge I'm sure because of the greens but still wow! I also ordered half dozen oysters. Chula Seafood strikes again! This time I came with the intent of getting a lox bagel, because lox duh. They serve up their smoked salmon or lox bagels on Saturdays & Sundays and I had been waiting to satiete this craving from them since my previous visit when I had to make the very hard decision of not getting the lox bagel and opting for their restaurant week menu (no regrets but still sad.) We arrived as close to opening as possible, because I was not going to risk them selling out. About 5 minutes after they opened, we rolled up and were told they had two bagels left! Well luckily there were only two of us, but I was also confused as they had JUST opened.... I am not sure if it was do to a big order, a delayed order or some other unrelated factor, but it is something to keep in mind if you are coming in for that. They have plenty of other offerings, so always able to pivot, but I am glad I did not have to this time. We both got the lox, which was also affirmed by the employee as her favorite. I can't tell you exactly what is on it, but it came out on a everything bagel, a generous serving of lox, cream cheese, pickled red onion, cucumber, I think some kind of pickled pepper and overall was most lovely and hit the mark. Since I was there... I also got a spicy tuna onigiri to go to enjoy for lunch later. It was good, but not nearly as good as the one I had on my previous visit, (It was the restaurant week special, so not totally apples to apples) but fell a bit flat this time around, feeling much more rice, less flavorful and low on the tuna. It did come with the same delicious wasabi based sauce though - It'll clear you right out! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great casual spot, with awesome weekend specials and menu, especially great during these summer months when something fresher juts hits a bit more.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Ordered: Hot Lobster Roll (~$32): Maine lobster, prawn butter, Old Bay seasoning; served with chips Hawaiian Style Poke Bowl w 4oz Spicy Tuna (~$22) & 2oz Salmon (+$5): with carrot, cucumber, edamame, pineapple, seasoned wakame, onion, macadamia nut, sesame seeds, sushi rice, traditional sauce Spicy Scallop Onigiri (~$9) with mustard aioli Ginger Beer (~$3) Aya's take: I never thought I would find good, fresh seafood in the desert but here we are! Chula Seafood has locations in California and Arizona offering a fast casual seafood dining experience. My absolute favorite bite was the Spicy Scallop Onigiri. This onigiri was loaded with fresh, raw scallops that were some of the most tender and buttery I've had. The spicy seasoning was outstanding! I need that recipe asap. The rice to seafood ratio was also spot on and the aioli it came with added some brightness and a kick. The Hot Lobster Roll was another good try with chunks of warm & buttery lobster meat topped with Old Bay seasoning. I think they could have used less Old Bay so I could really taste and appreciate the rich, sweet, briny flavor of the lobster. The roll it was served on was golden brown and perfectly buttered! I like that it came with chips as well. It was pretty simple & clean overall but certainly not on Maine/Boston's level in terms of outstanding lobster roll. As for the Hawaiian Style Poke Bowl which we got with Spicy Tuna & added Salmon, I will say the best part was just that - the raw fish. There's no doubt it's unbelievably fresh, not fishy at all, and had great flavor. I just wish the bowl was more customizable to your liking of toppings. All in all, this is a worthwhile stop for some fresh seafood if you find yourself in the area!

So, 8 years later, and it is still as amazing as ever. I'm rarely on this side of town these days, ut I had to head back here when I am. What can I say? Service was great. I had very high hopes for Chula Seafood and opted for the Hawaiian poke with spicy tuna and salmon poke. The salmon wasn't seasoned at all, but the tuna was good. Some parts of the salmon were chewy and not a great texture. Overall the dish was very bland-- I was so surprised. Even adding soy sauce it still fell short. Service was warm and friendly and [[HIGHLIGHT]]ambiance is casual.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Might return to try more classic seafood dishes like chowder or something else, but wasn't a big fan of the poke bowl. Needed a lot more seasoning.

Perfect little budget-friendly item, especially for a single mom (of a grown child) like me. If you haven't tried it yet, do yourself a favor and grab one. Everything else is still amazing as ever!

My friends have been raving about Chula for some time now and I finally got to take advantage of one of their Saturday deals! On the first Saturday of every month they serve lobster rolls, and on the second Saturday of every month they serve oysters. We went for the oysters, luckily we didn't have to wait in line (apparently there are long lines for their lobster rolls), we ordered at the counter and found a seat to wait for our food. It's BYOA, so we brought a bottle of wine, they uncorked it (no corking fee) and provided glasses. The oysters arrived pretty quickly with an onion-y sauce which I didn't like (I hate onions), so we asked them for another option or a spicy sauce. They brought out a homemade sauce which tasted like wasabi, soy sauce and something else I couldn't place. I've never had wasabi/soy sauce with oysters before but it was really good! The oysters were also really tasty, and customer service was great. I definitely want to go back to try one of their lobster rolls. read more

Some of the best fish I've had anywhere. Always fresh! Shaun is super helpful and friendly. Extraordinarily clean place, good Covid precautions such as social distancing and clean/dirty table identification. Well-organized. Hawaiian poke bowl is a must get. read more

This was our first time trying Chula and we were blown away! Bored out of our minds during COVID, we wanted to try our hand at some sushi making. But where do you even get fresh fish in the desert?! Chula, that's where. Lucky for us, Chula offered DIY sushi kits that have everything you need, down to the bamboo mat. We had so much fun making sushi at home (our lack of skills aside), but as to be expected, the shining star was the fish! The tuna and salmon were incredible. You can tell just by looking at it how high quality it is. It's beautiful, cuts like butter and tastes incredibly fresh. And if you read their story (which I loved), that's no surprise to hear given they catch it and ship it in all themselves. Their food menu looks incredible so we will definitely be back to try some more! Oh, and the curbside pickup was so convenient and the staff couldn't have been friendlier. Great COVID safety protocols from what we could gather as well, which is incredibly important to us. read more

Tried the Thursday special of the Salmon Pastrami Sandwich. Would definitely recommend if you go on a Thursday. The salmon was probably the best I've had in Phoenix and that would be because of the fresh seafood market they provide. Great venue in terms of setup, very authentic. Also, the service was great and the gentleman who took my order was very charismatic and welcoming. read more

Great place! Super fresh sea food. Ive been there twice and its been great both times. A rare thing to find is toro and not only do they have it but it's at a very reasonable price. Of course the toro is only available if they catch it fresh on one of their many boats....thats right, they catch their own!!! That's probably why they are only open wed through sat. but i'm just guessing. Need to go there again. read more

I have been eating at this fine establishment every week since it opened! Some weeks, several times. If you venture here once, it will assuredly force you to change your entire schedule from Wed to Sat. The poke bowls are crafted with the finest fresh fish driven into Arizona each week from San Diego. They are served with unique ingredients that give them an unmatched flavor and highly satisfying taste. The selection of fresh fish for take-home is nicely preserved in enclosed glass, not out in the open to dry out like at the organic grocers. The Black Sea Bass, Salmon and Scallops are choice. The guys and gals behind the establishment are first rate. John, Mandy, Hogan, Juan, Tyler and Shaun are off the hook!! Killer eats for any foodies in Arizona looking for the best cuts of fish. read more

First time at Chula. Sean and the rest of the crew were delightful. The food was amazing. Son got Hawaiian style poke. So fresh, so delicious. Mi esposa got Thai peanut bowl. Delightfully spicy, and peanutty without being cloyingly sweet (like so many peanut sauces). But their dishes paled in comparison to mine: the pastrami salmon sandwich. Top 5 sandwich in Arizona. Place is sparklingly clean. A new favorite! read more

Everything we had was amazing. The fish is so fresh! Growing up on the California coast I missed great seafood since I've lived here and I just found it! Highly recommend this place. We love seafood and were excited to find a new fresh fish market in Phoenix. As our first experiment we decided to try their swordfish since they catch it themselves in San Diego. The swordfish pieces were the perfect size and had no skin or blood lines, unlike swordfish bought elsewhere. There was no fishy smell and the swordfish tasted clean, mild and moist. We grilled it at home with North African spices and yogurt sauce, served with saffron couscous. This is the best-quality swordfish I've had. read more

The bomb.com!! I had the Thai peanut poke bowl and it was delicious- the noodles, flavoring, fish, and all the veggies in it were perfectly paired. My mom had the Spicy tuna bowl wish she loved and boyfriend had the daily special - smoke pastrami salmon sandwich (which he still is talking about days later)! Very good customer service, would return again! I love that you can buy fish from them as well, the chimichurri swordfish kabobs looked too good to be true. Love what they are doing, hope they keep the small shop feel as they become more popular! read more

Absolutely awesome! For the people who complained about the fish portion size, just order the regular bowl with EXTRA fish and trust me, it is plenty. Takes it up to 8 oz and it's very filling. I ordered the Hawaiian Poke Bowl and I loved it. The tuna was so fresh and very high quality. I will definitely be back. read more

Went for lunch around 12 on a Friday and it was packed! After enjoying their food I understand the hype. I had the sweet and sour salmon and the Vietnamese cold brew. Mind blowing. Freshest fish I've had in awhile, great service from ordering to being served. If you're in the area, if you're not in the area, make the trip! Beautiful presentation as well, first time I've been more excited to eat than to take a picture first! read more

Definitely don't lump this into the same category as all of those other "Poke" places that have been springing up all over town. Sure they offer that venerable dish but there is also so much more. They bring in some of the freshest seafood in town and they execute with a creativity and precision that is normally reserved for the $$$ type places. Their passion and quality equals some of the best sub $20 seafood you'll ever experience. read more

Great, fresh poke bowls! Located in a strip mall, but don't be fooled by the outside appearance. The poke is top notch and the staff is friendly. If you want beer or wine, you'll have to bring your own as they do not serve alcohol. My favorite is the Thai peanut bowl...amazing. read more

Stop reading yelp and go here. Walk up to counter and order anything and you won't be disappointed. As you leave order any of the fish or scallops/shrimp to take home and it's unreal. The quality and freshness of the seafood here can't be matched. Employees and owners obviously take pride in their products and it shows. read more

Established in 2016.

Established in San Diego, CA by The Heflin Family in 2009, Chula Seafood is a family owned + operated fishery that purveys high quality, fresh fish from the Pacific Coast. The boat, CHULA, specializes in harpooned Swordfish in addition to species off the California Coast. After years of commercial fishing, the family decided to take the plunge into wholesale distribution in California, delivering fresh, Chula caught fish. In August of 2015, the family recognized the need for fresh fish in the desert and began delivering straight from the boat to Arizona. And in late 2016, the Chula Seafood retail shop and restaurant opened in south Scottsdale.

I took the food togo, of course, and I ate the shrimp sandwich first. The seasoning was really great, and the salad was really well balanced. Mayo, onions, chives, cabbage: everything was well-represented and nothing was overbearingly seasoned. Yummy sandwich! The bread was a little drier than I would have liked, but very minor. It also came with Zapp's chips! Always a plus in my book. The poke? Delicious. I get the price. It's expensive, but it's the middle of a desert in 115 degree weather. Great representation of salmon poke, and super well seasoned with pacific island flavors that are certainly reminiscent of the stuff you'd get on the island! If you're looking for a wonderful seafood experience, I'm confident you'd like Nelson's in Phoenix.

One time she was about to close her register, but when I asked if she could take just a few more items, she smiled and said, "Yeah, absolutely. I can always take more." She also helped me learn how to use the Albertsons app so I could get the sale price on an item, bagged all of my groceries, and even loaded everything into my cart. We love Chula, and have been coming here for years, but today's experience was a bit weird! The guy behind the counter was extremely passive aggressive, and I felt that our requests were annoying to him.... Simple stuff like I wanted a couple pieces of the yellowfin tuna, and a piece of their salmon and asked that they cut it to be prepared for a Poké bowl... request denied. " I have tuna already cut up I can sell you" so I had to agree to sashimi so that the Guy didn't have to cut it into poke style pieces. He also seemed annoyed that we were not ordering off of a menu, but simply there to buy fish from them, as he was sure to interrupt my initial order to clarify that I would not be ordering from the menu. It gets better, I pay in cash and as he goes to hand me the change, he is extending his hand with the money in it, but what I didn't realize was that he was meaning to hand me the change in his hand prior to giving me the dollars which he made sure to tell me that he would have counted... I did not see the dime in your hand dude so I apologize that I did not allow you to count back the $19 and change. Overall, I think this guy is just having a bad day but as a business owner myself I'd like to know if my employees are acting this way. Hope it gets corrected read more

This little spot in south Scottsdale is worth the travel from anywhere in the valley. Now, there are all these poke places opening up everywhere in the valley and I've been to a few pre-Yelp for me. Don't bother. This is the place you need to visit. Friendly for one but you will not in any way find another place with fresher fish prepared in this style. You can't do it! Been waiting so long to write this review! This is absolutely the best fish you will find in the desert. I don't live in Arizona and it makes me sad that I can't frequent this place every week. You can definitely taste the difference in quality - this is not your typical poke place with fake crab meat and an overload of other toppings piled into a bowl. Fresh fish with simple ingredients. If you want the cheap option with lower grade fish there are plenty of places you can find that around Phoenix, but not here. This place is for true seafood lovers. When I walked in, the menu was simple and better, the fish is sustainable! I like to judge a Poke place by its Hawaiian Style Poke so that's what I got. Chula is the BOMB. boyfriend introduced me to this place and I was convinced I didn't like seafood until I tried Chula.... amazing. Their Thai peanut bowl is the bomb and so is their tuna Sammy. We love Chula! read more
