I went a while back.. it just has been a while since my last review! My friends and I decided to meet up on their patio. I originally made a reservation of I think 6-8, and a couple of extra people came last minute (sorry to our then server!). We made it work and just all sat close. Our server had our food and drinks come out with a quickness and didn't miss a beat. The restaurant is small, but cute and somewhat intimate if you want a more quiet date night during the week, or after work drinks. The vegan queso definitely didn't taste like cheese, but I still couldn't help but continue to eat it because it did have an interesting taste. The steak taco, bomb. The mango margaritas super bomb. I came here a year ago and tried the ceviche and the coliflor fundido; I absolutely loved the latter. I came here last month (Oct 2023), reordered the fundido as well as a few other items. Coliflor fundido $16.00 ***** 5/5 This dish can fill you up. It's delicious but a little difficult to describe. It has the flavor and consistency of melted cheese - gives you that awesome cheese pull - but then also has some slight cauliflower flavor.... Much less than you'd expect. The micro greens on top add a light refreshing flavor. It is served with blue corn tostadas you break into chips and dunk into the cheesy goodness; you can ask for more if you need them. This dish will always be a staple when I come here. Steak taco w/cassava tortilla $8 **** 4.5/5 The steak was cooked medium rare to perfection. It was juicy and flavorful. Tastes very fresh. There is a good amount of meat- enough to take half off and make two smaller tacos because you are given two cassava tortillas. These had just the right amount of avocado. The only thing I wish is for it to be served with a little more pico de gallo. I would definitely get this again. I also checked in for yelp, so I got a free order of churros. These did not taste like I expected, but keep in mind these are not normal churros, these are vegan! The carmel sauce they came with tasted mostly of coffee or espresso, so rather than use it on the churros, I took it home and mixed it with some milk and drank it. :) hehe I also enjoyed their taquitos. Their tortilla shells have a good crunch, the camotes add a smooth texture to the inside, the green sauce adds spice, and then they have pickled onions and radish with micro-greens which add the perfect complementary flavors. I had two servers waiting on me, Juliet and Camille. Juliet greeted me, gave me recommendations, and took my order, while Camille brought me water and checked on me later. Both were courteous and good waitresses. I love the location of this restaurant. It has such a great beach vibe/ vacation aesthetic. They are part indoor, part outdoor. Second, indoor/outdoor vibes all the way. It's the SoCal life. Beachy and fun. Third, all the food is organic, and sustainable. While that sounds bougie, that's the way food should be, for everyone. The quality of the ingredients really comes through in the food. The blue corn masa and the cassava flour tortillas and tostadas are stand out. Very delicious Mexican food in a cute location! Chulita is located in Venice. There was ample street parking, and my friend and I got a booth right next to the sidewalk. The ambiance is very vibrant and social. Our server (Juliet) was extremely sweet and helpful with recommendations when I wasn't sure what to order. She checked in on us regularly, and her boss was on the floor greeting customers as well to make sure we were all enjoying ourselves. Service gets a 10/10 for sure. The food was absolutely delicious. We started with simple guacamole and chips, but it wasn't simple at all. The tostadas were black, which was super cool and also perfect for October. The guacamole was fresh and delicious. We followed up the guac with the Taquitos de Camote. I cannot tell you ENOUGH how delicious those taquitos were. There was the sweetness of the potato, the spice of the jalapeno aioli, and the tang from the pickled onion and radishes. It was party in my mouth! The resturant looked so rizzy and had 100 aura walking in and atmosphere was fire. The waiters were rizzing me with the w service but they took to long to give us our meals. I guess we all have different palates and opinions on what good Mexican-ish food should taste like. Service was good. The barbacoa and steak were good. Chicken tinga was okay. Salsa (which they charge $5 for) tasted like it came out of a bottle and the salsa in the chilaquiles was bland - no flavor tasted more like tomato paste .My son loves chilaquiles and he was very dissatisfied with the ones they served at this restaurant. Also -had to add salt to the guacamole. Waffles were good .Overall , it wasn't bad bad- it was just okay . I am Mexican so we don't like bland food - we want food with some actual flavor. read more

We wanted a chill place that isn't too loud. Chulita was right on point. The atmosphere here is just fantastic. We shared the guacamole dip. My friend had the steak taco, and I had the Vegan Mushroom Carnitas. We both asked for a soft shell/ taco. I must say that the vegan mushroom taco was full of flavor and tasted terrific. It has marinated mushrooms, radish Pico de Gallo, and Vegan Yuzu cream. Yum!! They also have enough non-alcoholic drink options, which were great for me as I gave up alcohol a year ago. In summary, the two tacos that I ate were fine for consumption albeit 50% more expensive than any other taco you can buy at a food truck or other restaurant. However, these tacos from Chulita did not impress me. I was especially disappointed in the vegan taco option. I prefer El Cocinero Restaurant tacos in Van Nuys better (they're vegan). Barbacoa taco with housemade cassava flour tortillas ($7) . The ingredients include Beef cheek, Weiser Family Farms Radish, Avocado Salsa, Hibiscus Onion, Mexican Furikake. This has meat in it. It was good. Vegan mushroom carnitas with housemade cassava flour tortillas ($7) The ingredients include Marinated Mushrooms, Radish Pico de Gallo, and Vegan Yuzu Crema. This was okay to eat. The vibe of the restaurant is really nice. The interior design has a lot of natural material, but with a beachy vibe. This review is for the Venice location of Chulita. Loved it overall. Great ambiance. It was a sunny, beach day with indoor/outdoor seating. We went for Sunday brunch and our waiter John was AMAZING! We had several dishes, all delicious. Drinks were great - we tried the Seasonal Margarita, which today was Mango. We also had the Guava Margarita which I preferred. Prices are really reasonable here. Recommendation: Get ONE taco each and two sides and share. I had the Barbacoa Taco, the (borracho black) beans and corn (esquites). Both delicious and I judge a restaurant on its sides. They pass with flying colors. There are many vegetarian options. I think I'm going back next weekend it was so fun. read more

I got home after meeting a friend for a drink and snack at CHULITA and much to my surprise upon reviewing my tab, that I had emailed to me, had an extra 4% charge levied upon my bill. Please tell me, what in bloody heck is a 4% charge on the tab? You did not even have the decency to describe what it was for! Other businesses at least have the nerve to say it is for the insurance of their workers, for example, you however did not even bother. ? IN ADDITION, the 4% extra charge was taxed with the rest of my tab! SERIOUSLY?! Please see the attached photo of the bill. I won't be back. I love Chulita. It's consistently solid so you always know you'll have a good meal/cocktails/service. I've had the steak and seabass entrees. Both were good but the tacos are where it's at! Barbacoa and mushroom are my favorites, but you can't really go wrong here. Cocktails are so yummy and they have seasonal ones that rotate, to keep you on your toes. The drinks and vibes were the highlight, the food was ok. Guacamole appetizer - 4 stars. Served with blue corn tostadas (man, I miss real chips), the guac was rich with flavor and quite fresh. Best dish of the night. Chicken Tinga Taco - 3 1/2 Stars. The flavor of the chicken was good, but this is way too soggy to eat with your hands, knife and fork are necessary. Mushroom Taco - 3 1/2 Stars. Good for being vegan, but this was also quite soggy. Quesadilla w Mushrooms - 3 Stars. This is not a typical quesadilla at all, and I wasn't in love with it. Soggiest dish of the night and not that exciting in flavor. La Flaca Margarita (Skinny Marg) - 4 1/2 Stars. An amazing skinny marg! I was between a 3 and a 4 and ultimately went with a 4 since parking was easy (though it was also 5:30p on a Monday), service was friendly, and the cocktails were great. An adorable ambiance that offers both indoor and outdoor seating, and is regularly packed on week nights and weekends. The service is average at best, with glaring eye rolls and jarring attitudes. - It's a pass for me. Their drinks however, are absolutely delicious, and top notch. We've been here probably more than three times.. for the drinks alone! The food, is mediocre at best. Some menu items do have some flavor, while some are extremely lack luster. This is supposed to be elevated Mexican, and quite honestly I don't see it. Esthetically yes, the food is beautifully plated, but their food is anything but that. The flavor is just rarely there. For a larger group during lunch on a Tuesday, Chulita was the perfect stop for tacos and some apps. It's not a huge dining area, but spaces in the back and front of the restaurant allow for extra room. Summertime vibes in Venice, you can't beat the outdoors. We started with the sweet potato taquitos and chips & guac. Both were great. The corn is also cooked well. If you like corn, this place has it down to a science. However, the tacos are where it's at. I went with the fish and beef. The beef had beats in it (or some type of onion), that I didn't really expect, but without them it tasted amazing. Food is 4/5 stars! We got there at about 6pm on a weekday and were seated right away. We ordered the guac and chips to start. Small portion but it was really good. Then both me and my friend ordered tacos. They're expensive but they're a bigger size so I got full from 2. I got the tinga and steak tacos and they were both really good. But nothing special for the price. We were enjoying our talk and hanging out after we finished eating. The place is small so I understand they need the space. But the waiter came up to us at 7:25pm and says "you guys are okay right now but we have a reservation for this table at 7:30pm". That left a sour taste in my mouth. We were essentially kicked out because we were done eating. I've eaten and review soooo many restaurants and this was the first time I've ever been kicked out because they needed the table. For that reason, it's definitely not a place to come if you're looking to catch up with a friend. The food comes out so fast that by the time to sit down and order, the food comes, you have no time to actually catch up with a friend. We were there for maybe an hour max. Omggggg ok Im so glad I found this place. It's right around the corner from me, and has the best tasting food for a decent price (it's on the michelin gourmand guide!) Came here to celebrate a new job and was blown away by both the meal and service We had their sea bass, esquites, and mole I also had their mezcal espresso martini - which if you're a mezcal fan highly recommend! The esquites were so good, couldnt have enough the sea bass was nice and light and very tasting the mole was good (and I'm not usually a mole fan!) the meat was so tender and it went well with the carrot puree This was such a delightful meal and I cannot wait to go back to try the rest of the menu read more
