We eat here consistently! We love chuys! I'm from Texas so when we finally got a REAL Tex mex place in Richmond I was stoked!!!! We love to go during happy hour and enjoy the nacho bar and delicious frozen margaritas. You can get them swirled and the blackberry one is a favorite of mine! The fajitas are always good and fast! We also love the panchos and fish tacos! If you come here you definitely need to get creamy jalapeño sauce with your chips and salsa too! All of their sauces are sooooo good! My only complaint is sometimes they don't make the boom boom sauce correctly. Usually it's awesome, just like in Texas, but some days they make it more like the cheese dip than boom boom sauce so exercise caution when ordering it, otherwise the chickaboom boom enchiladas are awesome!!!! read more

The food was nice and hot. I got steak fajitas- it came with rice, beans, cheese, lettuce, guacamole, and sour cream. It was a lot of food- you can definitely share it with someone. The chips were thin and the sauces to dip them in were delicious. I got this as take out and was confused why they charged me a lot more than menu price and they said it was due to packaging. I thought that was a load of bull, so I probably won't get anything to go anymore, but I will dine in because the food was really good! Just not worth an extra 5 dollars for take out! read more

If I had heard how multiple employees pronounce a Spanish double-L before walking in here, I'd have known to turn around and go anywhere else. No, it's not a chile RELL ehno, nor is it toma TILL o sauce. But let's go back to the beginning. I sat at the bar, as I am wont to do when eating alone. Although I did not ask for recommendations, the bartender was quick to tell me that he couldn't recommend anything, as everything was good. Then just shut up, dude. I ordered a combination platter with a chile relleno (reh YEN o) and an chicken enchilada, with "green chile sauce". What I received was a platter with a beef enchilada and the sauce had nothing green about it. ("Oh, it's a roux-based sauce, sir" I was told. Whatever, I ate my way across New Mexico on Route 66 and when I ordered green sauce it was, amazingly enough, green). While this food mistake was being taken care of (or so I thought... foreshadowing!), my beer glass sat empty, even though I was seated right next to the service bar. It was impossible that either of the bartenders couldn't see that, and leaving a customer dry when you've already made one mistake takes things to a whole 'nother level of bad. When the new plate of food was delivered, they'd gone ahead and replaced ONLY the enchilada. In the meantime, I'd left the other food there, assuming that the whole thing was being replaced, so of course that was cold. Rather than wait another 10 minutes for the food I'd originally ordered, I asked for a fresh relleno and started in on the enchilada. And STILL my beer sat empty. I had to wave my hands around to get somebody's attention. A manager came to see me seconds before the relleno was delivered, asking if I'd finally gotten all I needed. When that plate was set down by me, he said "Perfect!". I told him that no, this was far from perfect, but mostly he seemd to want to consider everything a success. In the end, my whole tab got comped, although I looked at the ticket sitting in front of me before that happened, and it actually had a charge listed for the re-ordered enchilada (or maybe it was the relleno). I get that it had to be entered into the POS system so that the kitchen would make it, but it NEVER should have appeared on my tab. Adios, Chuy's. read more

Me and my 3 year old got food poisoning here (likely old rice) - this place needs a surprise health inspection stat. Had terrible service with loud, obnoxious manager lady trying to sneak in extra charges. I have never been so disgusted at a restaurant as I was at chuys. We sat down and they brought out Chips n salsa and the salsa looked so disgusting that I can't even describe it. It was a weird pale tomatoe color with weird bubbly stuff in it and It immediately made me lose my appetite. My bf tried it and said it tasted of wet gym sox and old onion. We are not picky eaters especially when it comes to mex restaurants but we walked out and couldn't bring ourselves to try an entree at a place that would serve that sloppy weird salsa. read more

Enjoy free nachos from the nacho bar (featuring light and crispy tortilla chips and fresh made salsa) while you partake in the nightly happy hour . The bar is covered in pics of cute dogs, and if you bring in a framed pic of your pup, they will not only put it on the wall, they will give you a free appetizer! While I'm mostly interested in Chuy's happy hours, I have tried their regular menu and it's pretty great too! The green chilie fried chicken is super spicy and crispy, and just great comfort food. Because Chuy's is new to the area, and in Short Pump, its always been packed to the gills whenever I've been there, but I guess that is to be expected. I haven't been to a Chuy's in perhaps a year or so and I was elated to come across this brand new Chuy's while visiting family in Richmond. I was salivating at the idea of dining here, but apprehensive that the same great flavors would not be available in this east coast outlier. But, thankfully, I was completely satisfied. ok, so I live in Austin where I eat Chuys all the time. Imagine my surprise they had a Chuys all the way up in Virginia where I was traveling. I usually have the Deluxe Chicken enchiladas. Right away these looked different. But I'm not going to base a meal on looks. After taking a bite I then noticed it tasted a little different. Not wildly different, it just had too much pepper. You could even see the pepper sprinkled about the chicken. I suppose it was alright. Even the chicken seemed a bit more chewy than what I am normally accustomed to at Chuys here in Austin. I went for a work lunch so it's not like I was expecting an amazing experience but this place is pretty much just a straight up mexican chain with nothing too special. Worst Mexican food I ever had. This is what white people think is Mexican. Bland over conceived. I got the Special Chuy's Enchilada. Nothing special about it. Blue Corn Tortillas with chicken and cheese and no sauce. The Spanish rice was dry. NO Alcohol in the "special" Chuy Margarita. If you want a pre-packaged, nick-nack filed loud restaurant, come here. This is a go-to whenever we are in Richmond, because the food here is GREAT! The chicken enchiladas are some of the best I've ever eaten. Don't be too put off by the theme restaurant design and service. Forgo all the crazy drinks and too-large desserts, and accept the overly friendly staff (always better than surly people who take forever with your food and orders). Chuy's is a cute little chain that honestly when you walk in doesn't look like a Mexican restaurant but is. The food honestly isn't bad, it's pretty good, nothing to really be like omg I need to come back and eat this. Their menu is your typical Mexican restaurant menu. Everyone can find something they want to eat. Their chips and salsa are delicious I will say. Their chips are the thin crispy type. Their guacamole is kinda basic, it has good flavor but it needs more than just tomatoes. Went to Chuy's for the first time while visiting in Richmond VA. I ordered the Boom Boom Chicken, excellent! A little spice with cheese, fresh chicken enchilada, and sides. Guac was delish. Can't go wrong with thin crispy, warm chips and white sauce. I was so taken with my meal, I didn't get what my family ordered but I know they enjoyed it. Love love love this restaurant! We drove especially from Maryland to visit this place since it's our favorite restaurant. We are from Houston and got introduced to it while in Texas. Try the creamy jalapeño sauce with the chips. Sometimes they don't bring it out so you have to ask for it. Also try the chicka chicka boom boom, which comes with boom boom sauce. They staff was nice and we got seated quickly. The food also came out timely and the margarita was amazing. Hands down the best Ted Mex place to visit :) read more

2 stars for the food, an extra star because of the amazing waitress!!!!! I wish I had gotten her name. I was a little disappointed by the menu, I didn't see anything that caught my eye. I didn't even come across chorizo on the menu which was disappointing. That was a sign for me that it wasn't going to be authentic. Our waitress was able to recreate a dish that's very popular in other Mexican restaurants, arroz con pollo y camarones. It wasn't the best here because this isn't authentic, but it was doable. Went to Chuy's with adults and teens for lunch. Great service, prompt and courteous. Loved the decor..old cars, hubcaps..kind of like the old parts of Mexico I visited. Twice I have eaten and twice I have been very food. The first time was about 6 months ago on 301 near Waldorf, Maryland. The service was atrocious and the food was worse. Extremely salty, poorly constructed, it's what I would expect out of a can after the cook forgot to put the cap on the salt shaker. Tonight, my wife talked me into trying the Short Pump location. The service was quite good and our waitress was very friendly. The food however, truly disappointing. I love Mexican fidd, lived near Mexico City for a while and can say this food doesn't qualify as Mexican, let alone Tex-Mex. on top of all of that, my stomach has been in terrible shape for the last several hours. First time visit, will be my last. The only thing freshly made was the tortillas, chips and Salsa. The guacamole tasted like something I could pick up from the store. Now I know not all Mexican is made fresh but considering the prices for everything I thought something else would stand out or make this place unique. Perfect place to enjoy TexMex! Every bit of this food experience was perfect. Our waitress was very friendly, checked in on us frequently, and even called us sweeties. The food was delish: chips are light and crispy, and I recommend adding Chile con Carne. My sis told me there was a secret white sauce, but we didn't know that when we went.
