We were in town on our way back from NC to IL. We had our dog with us so dining out was not an option for us. We needed to find something that we could pickup and bring back to the hotel. We used to have a Chuy's close to our home in Illinois but has now been gone for several years...come back Chuy's!! Anyhoo, we decided to order the fajitas for 4 and got the steak/chicken mix. Wow! This restaurant is extremely recommended so we were very excited to try it. I have to say I'm extremely disappointed. The jalapeño ranch dip is the only thing that saved it. It literally tastes like what my mom would make on taco night as a kid. My kids love orange rice and that's the only thing they will eat at a restaurant and they would not even touch the orange rice here. I'm one of those people who've only had the jalapeño dip, but never a meal from Chuy's. Well that changed during my lunch break when I forgot what? You guessed it, my lunch. I placed my order online. I purchased the steak burrito with chips and the infamous dip, of course. The dip and chips are always on point. The steak in the burrito was nice and tender. My only complaint is that the sauce was too spicy! If you can't tolerate black pepper, definitely ask for a different sauce to go with it or else you'll need a firefighter hose of milk, to douse out the fire in your mouth. I like spicy food, but this was SPI-SAYYY. The refried beans are a step up from the usual and they weren't bad, but I prefer the usual if you get my drift. The rice was alright. Nothing spectacular. I will say the burrito is huge and overall a large portion for the $15 I spent (excluding tip/meal price only). If I could give this a half point rating it would be a solid 3.5. Scaled up, because of the portion and there isn't a .5 option. Yelp, if you're reading this, please add .5 rating options! Also, cut me a check if you do *side eye*. I'm actually serious lol. To say that my friend and I eat at Chuy's frequently is a bit of an understatement. As far as chain Tex-Mex goes, it's hard to beat - the food is always hot and well-prepared and no matter which area location you choose, you know you're in for a decent meal. Normally, I'd give Chuy's a fourth star for both consistency and service, but tonight we tried their online waitlist check in. And I'm not sure what exactly it was we checked into other than one more pointless daily email that I don't care to have added to my already-overflowing inbox, because it did absolutely nothing to help us in any way abate the hour+ wait. It's literally the busiest I've ever seen the place and we waited absolutely every second as long as everyone else. I wouldn't be quite so irked if they didn't now have my info in exchange for a false glimmer of hope towards a more reasonable wait time. LIES! We will be back next week, I'm sure... I really wanted, and expected, to like this place. I had heard good things about it from friends. Unfortunately, it did not live up to expectations. My sister and I went for lunch on a Saturday afternoon during COVID. The inside of the place is super cite with fun things to look at everywhere. We didn't have to wait to be seated and our server greeted us very quickly. We had excellent service, some of the best I've ever had. They had a very limited menu. I don't k ow if that is normal or due to COVID. We both got burritos, mine was fajita chicken and my sister's was ground beef. We got the queso sauce on top. The food came out in a reasonable about of time and looked really good. The burritos were huge. Unfortunately, neither of our burritos were very good. The just had meat and beans in them, no cheese, sour cream, rice, veggies, etc. There was rice on the side but it was truly terrible. We didn't eat much of our food and debated on whether to bother taking it home. We did, however, order tres leches cake for dessert to split. It was amazing! I rated this place a 3. If I were rating just the burritos, I would give it a 1. But the excellent dessert and service made me bump it up to a 3. The only reason I would ever go back would be for the cake. read more

We had a large party of about 35 people, on a Saturday night during their busy time. I called before coming not once, but twice, and was told they had all of my info and would be ready for us. I even got a text confirming! When we arrived the male host (tall, dark hair, complete and utter ass) was beyond rude to our party. He would not make eye contact, was incredibly smug, and kept saying we don't reserve tables... After speaking to the manager (who is apparently brand new,) he bent over backwards to correct this & get us taken care of despite informing me he had no idea we were coming. So much for calling twice! Our server Ike killed it and was amazing! Taco salad, TX martini and Tres Leches are a must. The new manager (sorry I didn't get his name) and our server Ike were a wonderful example of what true customer service is, especially during a time when it hardly seems to exist anymore! read more

The chips and salsa were great but the beef tacos were so spicy I couldn't eat them. The menu said nothing about them being super spicy and so I just thought they were regular beef tacos but they were super spicy. The burritos were just ok. Maybe it was just a bad night for them, but we did not enjoy the food at all, which was too bad, because we had heard good things about them. The food at Chuy's on Bardstown Rd. is quite good. This coming from someone who only enjoys authentic Mexican food, as in eating Mexican food in Mexico. I had my food delivered so I can't speak on the ambiance of the restaurant. I can tell you, though, they were quite thoughtful in how they packed their food. It was not amateur packing, and I genuinely appreciated that. I ordered the shredded chicken Chimichanga with the tomatillo sauce. They packed it neatly and separately. They packed a very generous portion of homemade chips. I enjoyed the 2 small containers of obviously freshly made, homemade salsa. It had me begging for more. No charge for that, of course. When I asked for a side of sour cream, I unexpectedly received 2 full containers. The prices are competitive with thriving businesses of so-called Mexican restaurants around Louisville that do not claim to be authentic, however Chuy's food tastes so much better. It's the main reason I come here. It's creamy ranch with a hint of spicy jalapeño goodness. It's so tasty. My second favorite menu item is the deep fried avocado meal. It's a special so it's only available on Tuesdays. It's literally an avocado stuffed with cheese, chicken, and a bit of cilantro... then battered in panko and deep fried. Get it, you won't regret it. Ok who doesnt love some Chuy's? This is the best Mexican place in Louisville. I always look forward to some Chuy's! This is one of the few restaurants that I dont mind waiting for a table. The decor is out of this world! The metal palm trees that dress the landscape inside the dinning area. I love all the art along the walls and even the ceiling has something to look at! Everywhere you look, you see something. Whether its license plates or old hub caps off older cars, you'll sure to see something thats neat to look at. When you get a table after waiting a few glorious minutes, they bring you these wonderful, thin, crispy, salty chips along with stuff called creamy jalapeno. Dont tell to many people, but this dip is off the chain good! Oh my goodness, its so so good! We always ask for extra! I've had in Texas, but my first time was Chuys! And they make the best creamy jalapeno sauce ever! I do I love some sauce to smother those homemade crispy corn chips in! They also bring a tomato salsa, but beware, this stuff will make you blow smoke rings outside your ears! Its hot! Hot! Hot! Make sure you have some water or and ice cube near by! The food! Let me tell you, everything on the menu is super good! Chuy's doesnt disappoint no matter what you order. And believe me, that most portions are huge! You'll have more than enough to eat and maybe even have take home bag if your lucky! Everything they make comes out on a super hot plate that heats the food up even more! There are things I love about Chuy's but it is kind of hit or miss. The chips and salsa are very good. They have delicious enchiladas and sauces-which they make in house. We use to go to Chuy's many many years ago. On a whim we decided to give go tonight. Talk about going to a restaurant that has gone down hill. The interior was dirty and completely run down with a large amount of cosmetic deferred maintenance. My daughter and I shared the Elvis combo platter . The chicken enchiladas was a strip of dry chicken breast , the cheese enchilada looked like someone place a slice of American cheese in it and beef enchiladas was worse than Taco Bell. I have only come early on weeknights and we have never had an issue with being seated. And this last time...our group unexpectedly grew from 6 to 10, and our server handled it with ease, quickly adding another table to ours and bringing extra waters, menus and utensils. We were there during happy hour and that meant a nice little discount on some drinks and margaritas, so you know ya gurl got a margarita or two! On this most recent visit, I just nibbled on some chips, queso- and salsa-less. My friend and I also shared the chicken quesadilla (because betches be on a budget, y'all....and...sharing is caring!). It was pretty tasty! If you are particularly hungry, or not already filled up on chips, the full quesadilla would make a generously sized meal. We had a great visit, a good meal, tasty drinks, and our sever never once dropped the ball. I tend to favor local joints over chains, but you could make many dinner choices worse than Chuy's. Not anymore. The service was nonexistent as we had to flag down a server that wasn't ours just to get our water refilled. Chuy's is one chain I can get behind. Good food is good food, after all. I went to Chuy's today for a work lunch. I had heard good things about Chuy's but admit that I had never eaten at Chuy's before. I had always opted for locally-owned nearby spots. In this instance, I was perhaps wrong to stay away. We started with chips. Along with salsa, this came with Chuy's creamy jalapeno dip. And I can see why it's so popular. It's like ranch but with a kick to it. This would be excellent on a salad or for dipping veggies into. And for my entree, I went with another signature item, the Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom enchilada. Not only is this fun to say but also eat. It includes hand-pulled chicken and cheese with Chuy's Boom-Boom sauce (cheese, roasted green chiles, tomatillos, green onions, cilantro and lime juice). It also comes with rice and beans. The waiter warned me that this was a bit spicy. I shrugged him off and said that would be fine (even though I'm a spice wimp). And yeah, he was right. I drank a Diet Coke and a half while finishing this dish. But the heat level didn't take away from it. Under the spiciness was great flavor. The chicken even had some depth to it. And at $10.99, the price is right for this ample entree. One of my lunchmates also got the special, which was a stuffed, lightly fried avocado. I'm trying this out when I go back. My cohort enjoyed it, and I appreciate that Chuy's will branch out from typical Tex-Mex fare to do something a bit different. Our server was quick to take our orders, bring our food to the table and refill our drinks. The restaurant looked clean. It is a bit odd that all of the silverware comes in sealed pouches, so I suppose you know it's clean. Don't get me wrong -- I appreciate clean silverware, but this seemed like overkill. If you can get past the Mexican chain cheesiness everywhere (cheesy as in silly, not as in actual cheese), you'll find some great Mexican comfort food. Chuy's used to be a place I absolutely loved coming to. Now that I live right next door and have frequented much more often over the years, I'm sadly starting to see its decline. I really don't come here much anymore unless my parents want to take me out, and this is usually their choice. The wait to be seated at Chuy's in the evening has become absurd. The past two times I have come, I had to wait over an hour. Note that this location is very large, however they will often have one half of the restaurant empty, assuming they are understaffed. The servers typically look very overwhelmed and almost every time, our server will mention it. I still really like their food. I love Tex Mex and they have so much on their menu to choose from. Unfortunately there is always something messed up; They forget the queso, the queso is very watery, they forget silverware, they forget napkins, they don't give us waters, etc. Typically more than one of these is occurring at the same time. And after usually waiting an hour to even sit down, the service is still pretty effing slow. I hope Chuy's can improve to what it once was. Sadly it has been in the gutter for a while now and I can't see any change happening soon. read more

This has to be one of my favorite comfort food places! The husband and I make this our go to weekend lunch date! Awesome food and drinks. First off you can't go wrong with the Jalapeño Ranch sauce and chips. The chips are so light and airy! I always get the strawberry Margarita for my cocktail but last time I went out of my comfort zone and got the Tito's Cherry Limeade! So refreshing on a hot day! It's my new favorite! Wish I could give 3.5 stars. I've never eaten here before so I didnt really know what to expect. I assumed that it would be like any regular chain Tex-Mex restaurant. The difference that they tout is freshly-made everything. The decorations are really gaudy, but I didn't let that deter me. The crispy chips were served warm with two types of sauces: a tomato/chilli one and a creamy jalopena one. Both were spicy and had really good flavor. Chuy's does not have an expansive menu. In a way, this is good because it allows them to make a few items very well. I ordered the Baya tacos as my entre. It has lightly-fried fish or shrimp (I chose fish), along with red cabbage encased in a home-made corn taco and slathered with the creamy jalapeño sauce. I was pleasantly surprised by the tremendous flavor of those tacos. I'm sure the scrumptious taste is because of the fresh ingredients, which Chuy's touts as it's claim to fame. Our server, Becka, was helpful, attentive and gratious. I was really pleased with her service, particularly because we arrived within an hour of their closing time. While their decorations and atmosphere are nothing but average, I am impressed by the taste of my food on this visit. I'll probably return when I have a hankering for really fresh Tex-Mex. Came to Chuys at 2 PM on Saturday and there was a 10 minute wait even with open tables. We had the chips and salsa and jalenpeno dip to start and it was delicious. For my meal I had the chuy lite meal that comes with one taco, guacamole, and queso. The meat had 0 flavoring and my friend and I asked for a teaspoon of sour cream and we were charged .75. The queso is just okay here not too much flavor and they give you about one teaspoon of guacamole. My friend ordered the shrimp tacos and couldn't finish them because they were not good. I don't think I would come back unless it was for the jalenpeno dip. read more

I'm a fan. I usually drop by here after shopping at Oxmoor. I typically sit at the bar because it is very laid back and the bartenders are always friendly and they know my order. I love the Grandma's Margarita on the rocks - it is more sour than sweet and they use fresh lime and orange juice which makes it so good! I absolutely always get the Pancho Nachos with no beans an extra guacamole - they are just my favorite. They aren't nachos like you are used to but rather nachos toppings on these delicious thick tortilla chips. They are strong enough to hold the topping while staying crunchy.
