It's been a while since we've visited Chuy's and had an exceptional service. My wife and I went around 3:30 to avoid the evening dining crowd and we were seated right away. There were 2 other tables in the area and the waitress was helping them when we were seated by the hostess. Within 2-3 minutes Marissa came over to see us with chips, salsa and that "Must Have" Creamy Jalapeño sauce. I had asked her if we could try a sauce as we normally go with Creamy Deluxe Tomatillo and tried Creamy Green Chili...SOLD!!! She was non-stop coming to ask if we needed anything and Marissa quite literally made a late afternoon meal one of the "BEST" experiences we've had in a while. First Visit to Chuy's First time visiting Chuy's, and I was pleasantly surprised! I had heard about it before, but I wasn't sure what to expect. It has that fun, casual Tex-Mex restaurant feel, and the food was actually really good. I had the green chile chicken, rice and beans, and a little salad on the side. Everything was tasty, and the salsa was really good. I especially loved their creamy jalapeño sauce with the chips--it had just the right kick! The red sauce was also really good. As a San Antonio native who cooks real Mexican food at home, I wanted to give Chuy's on Highway 151 a shot for a mother-daughter dinner. Convenient spot right off 151. Walked in--no warm greeting; staff seemed distracted and just pointed us to a table. Chips were hard/stale, but the salsa was decent (the creamy jalapeño one is a plus if you like it spicy). We ordered beef quesadilla with beans/fries (daughter) and taco enchilada plate (me). Food was disappointing and not authentic at all. Rice extremely dry, beans tasted weird--like canned beans with chorizo. (not fresh refried) . The enchilada sauce taste like canned Wolf Brand chili . Portions are big, but quality felt off. Fries were the only solid thing besides the salsa. Waitress checked once, but overall service was meh/indifferent. Restrooms were fair/clean enough. Won't be returning--plenty of better local Mexican spots in SA for real flavors. One star for the salsa and convenience off 151; half-star bump if the portions fill you up. We were on vacation August 4, 2026 at this restaurant and I was so disappointed. We go to one in Plano and love it, but this place the tortillas were burnt and disgusting and my beef tacos were so bad because they came on tortillas and burnt and meet so salty and the refried beans you could pick up and they wouldn't even drop off the fork shaking them. The waitress was training and she came back and said after she had seen I took one bite if I needed a to go box. I said, "no it's horrible." She took my plate and didn't even ask if she could make it better or give us a discount. Bad management and I would stay clear of this Chuy's. I was scared to go back to Plano's but called them today and they promised me they are not like that. It's shame when one bad experience and waitress could steer you from wanting your favorite Tex Mex. Don't go here because you will regret your bill. read more

Chuy's is one of our go-to spots when we want Mexican food and don't feel like venturing too far. They're known for their jalapeño ranch dip and margaritas. This location is nearby and has plenty of parking, so it's an easy stop. Chuys has become a Texas chain restaurant, but I feel that they still put out quality meals. Every location stays true to the chaotic vibes of the original on Barton springs. I specifically like the front room at this location where the bar is and the walls are covered with photos of people's pets! The food and drink at this location are always good. Sometimes there's a wait, but I've always received good service. I've probably eaten here at least 5 times. read more

The service is fantastic, the bartenders and wait staff do a great job & on top of that they're all extremely friendly. The management is also very courteous and professional. Chuy's does tex-mex right! Reviews keep calling the food Mexican which isn't correct. Tex mex and Mexican are very different so I hope visitors realize this is Tex Mex. I stopped by Saturday around 2 pm and there was no wait. We were told to sit near the bar area for faster service which really wasn't the case. It took a while to get menus, order and close out. Food came out nice and hot! My husband ordered the burrito with beef fajita and it had such great flavor. Beans and rice were good. I got the cheese enchiladas which were also great. We also ordered a large frozen margarita which apparently they charge if you get two flavors (swirl) which is ridiculous to me as I am not getting more volume nor is it a spirit upgrade. Ambiance is nice, Tex Mex decor everywhere plus cute dog pictures all around. Apparently if you bring a framed picture of your dog you get a free appetizer so FYI! Our server was attentive but unfortunately seemed a bit stretched thin. Regardless, we enjoyed our visit and food. When I first walked in to Chuy's, I was immediately greeted by an amazingly friendly lady at the front door that got us to our table. Our servers was even more friendly & welcoming! The server was incredibly awesome! Seriously, I was blown away at the high level of hospitality from everyone at this place. Even a manager came by our table at one point to check on us. We've always loved Chuy's but I recently went to the Chuy's in Selma, Texas off IH 35, and ordered a skinny margarita with my food. It tasted horrible and it was a sickly orange color. I asked the waiter if they had put orange juice in it. The bartender came over and said that's the way they make skinny margaritas but that is NOT true - no one else has ever put orange juice in that drink - it is no longer a margarita! I hate orange juice (which is Loaded with sugar so not skinny) and I should've given it back to the bartender right then. I could not choke down more than a few drinks. And it was $14.75 during happy hour! I will not be returning to that Chuy's and as far as I am concerned, they need to refund that money to me. read more

My dad and I went there this past Saturday at around 4pm. There weren't many people dining. First, we were sat in a booth (preferred) but we asked to move due to the SPOTLIGHT bulb that made it difficult to see across the table. We were moved to a window table where it was FREEZING, but we were there and already moved once. We ordered queso to start. My dad ordered the shredded chicken taco plate and I ordered the beef tacos al carbon plate. My dad mentioned the tortillas were flour dense and didn't hold the filling well... I couldn't yet relate because I was still waiting for my food. Dad finished his meal and we got some extra chips for the dips. The waitress removed his plate and apologized again for my food still being delayed. Just as I was telling my dad that I've eaten so much chips and dip (and he was already through with his meal) I was just going to cancel my meal order.... my meal arrived. I ate one taco mostly because I was already full but I discovered what he was saying about the tortillas. The flour tortilla broke from the filling and lead to my decision to just stop trying. What bothers me the most is that there was no offer for some kind of reduction of the bill... maybe comp the queso? They went ahead and charged us full price knowing well this was not a good experience. I WILL NEVER go back! read more

The only reason I ever agree to eat here is because the creamy jalapeño sauce with some chips is so so good. The queso is also good but you can get that anywhere. Nothing else is really special. There was too much onion for my liking but no biggie. I asked for a side of beans after getting my bowl Bc it would taste way better if it had some beans in it lol. I definitely loved the flavor of the beans for being a Tex mex place. The portion size was huge! And the our waitress was absolutely amazing! Very attentive and helpful. As a native New Mexican, I give Chuy's five stars for having green and red Chile. They started a unique item, the Green Chile Burger. It is AMAZING and rivals the burgers I had in New Mexico. This is a fork-and-knife burger made with ground chuck and brisket. This is the second one I've had this week. Today they put queso on it, which took it up a notch! Back at Chuy's after a long break! (I used to go to the original in Austin when in HS and college!) We had the chile relleno with chicken special. The sauce was like a savory mole sauce and was delicious. The rellenos were fried just right so that the pepper was soft and edible on the inside but crispy on the outside. We loved the white jalapeño sauce that went with our chips. The salsa had a touch too much lemon/lime juice. Rice and beans were especially good with the mole sauce. The interior is really cool looking with old portraits on the walls. Our server Sanai was very nice and on top of the food order. The food was pretty good and very filling. Coming into restaurants on a Saturday night is always tricky because of the dinner rush. Waiting at the host stand was a bit rough since they didn't greet us at all but we asked if the bar area was open seating and they said yes - score! Our server, Caley, was awesome! She was busy busy but didn't skip a beat and greeted us with a smile. Our drinks and chips stayed full. The salsa and creamy jalapeño sauces were addicting! Food was delicious and came out hot. It's Tex Mex: enchiladas, burritos, tacos, etc. but with a little twist. We love it but if you're looking for a more traditional menu this may not be to your liking. Their margaritas are delicious, they don't taste cheaply made (which says a lot because I'm quite picky with frozen margaritas.) The interior is colorful and quirky! Chuys has always been one of my go to places for happy hour. They have good drink specials. Before covid, they even had a nacho bar. One of my favorites from this place. I hear it may come back soon. If you like your chips thin, then you'll love the ones here. They bring out two different salsas. The tomato-based has a little kick to it. The creamy one is kind of like a ranch. Both are good. The food is good too. It has good flavor. I've had a few of their dishes. This time I had the cheese enchiladas. They let you choose your sauce. I had my enchiladas with their tomatillo sauce. It was so good. Not spicy. My favorite drink here is the Texas martini, but they also have a good Mexican martini that's just a little spicy. Parking is available on site. read more

The best part of the meal was the jalapeño dip that comes with chips for the table. For some reason, they use plastic dishes. Not sure why'd you do that in a restaurant. It feels very cheap. I adore any dining places in Texas being a guest from East Coast. It always has a gift shop selling cute merchandise especially their trademark shirts. This place is exceptional. I love the place. AWESOME dinner tonight. We were hesitant to stop by with all the low reviews but I'm so glad we did. We did have an issue with waiting 15 mins before anyone came to take our drink order or offer chips but our waitress was so kind and apologized for being late multiple times. She was also on top of her game from the minute she stepped foot at our table. Chips were crispy, salsa was fresh and tangy. I really enjoyed the queso even though it caught me off guard how different it is from majority of other places. They aren't lying when they say their burritos are as big as your face, that thing was HUGE and caught me completely off guard. I also had to have them cook my steak well done and it was still tender and juicy. My husband got the chuychanga and was surprised by how packed it was on the inside. He also admired how crunchy the outside was able to stay without getting soggy and that the inside was able to stay as moist as it was. My advice: get the creamy jalapeño dip! You won't regret it.
