I haven't been to a Chuy's in a while so I thought I'd stop by and see if it's still good. Glad to say that everything was still delicious. In order I had: Chips and salsa Tortilla Soup Chuychanga with Deluxe Tomatillo Sauce (with rice and beans) Tres Leches Cake Had a full course meal and it was wonderful! Chips and salsa were fresh and not stale. Tortilla soup had plenty of cheese, chicken, and even had guacamole which made it even better, I broke off the tortilla into pieces and dropped it into the soup which came out splendid. The Chuychanga was very filling and the rice and beans tasted great too. The Tres Leches cake was huge but was enjoyable with every bite; so far it's been my best tres leches cake I've had in a restaraunt I was well impressed with the food and the waiter made sure I had everything that I needed. Coming into restaurants on a Saturday night is always tricky because of the dinner rush. Waiting at the host stand was a bit rough since they didn't greet us at all but we asked if the bar area was open seating and they said yes - score! Our server, Caley, was awesome! She was busy busy but didn't skip a beat and greeted us with a smile. Our drinks and chips stayed full. The salsa and creamy jalapeño sauces were addicting! Food was delicious and came out hot. It's Tex Mex: enchiladas, burritos, tacos, etc. but with a little twist. We love it but if you're looking for a more traditional menu this may not be to your liking. I hadn't had Chuy's in a long time. I'm currently visiting, and I wanted some good TexMex. They didn't disappoint. I ordered the steak burrito. There was an enormous amount of flank steak and cheese. It could have easily fed 2 people. I definitely couldn't finish it. I was even given a smidgeon of the green sauce -- If I had known that I would have only received a smidgeon, I would have ordered more. It is absolutely delicious. I waited about 9 minutes before I was given the table. I sat down and was immediately greeted by a cheerful and full of excitement waitress and her name was Cher. If you do happen to stop by and try this place out ask for her. She will not disappoint you. You checks up on you often as well as her other tables. She spends the time briefly with each table and asks if anything else is needed or if you need another refill. Excellent meal! I ordered the Chili Relleno stuffed with chicken and cheese, one of their "signature" dishes. This was one of the best rellenos that I have ever eaten. First of all, the order comes with TWO full-sized stuffed Anaheim peppers (not poblano). I thoroughly enjoyed it. Mind you, it didn't have the typical egg batter, but came with a crispy crust. And...There was lots of chicken inside. Yes, I realize that Tex-Mex in itself kills any diet, but here all the calories of everything on the menu is posted, included alcoholic drinks. This is my second time at this location besides the one time at the northeast one. I have no complaints, our waitress was amazing and nice. We sat at the bar and got treated amazing. I love chuy's and the food; always a great cheap option for authentic tex mex cuisine

I'm a bit disappointed because the pictures of the food online looked so good! But I have to say the current rating of 3.5 stars is about right. Some of the items were pretty good; some were just average. I started with the queso with meat/guac/pico to go with the chips I was brought. That is one of the pretty good things I had. Chips were thin, crispy and fresh. That means a few broken chips at the bottom though, too, but I'll gladly take that in exchange for crispy and fresh. The additions to the queso kind of get lost in the cheese soup that queso is, so you have to scoop correctly if you want just one of the three. I also had a beer; you get three choices on tap: Bud Light, Michelob Ultra, and Dos Equis. Obviously Dos Equis won that challenge. It was cold and good. But don't come here expecting a huge selection of beer on tap, or even a modest selection. (Note:I didn't ask about bottled beers, so I don't know how extensive that collection is.) For my main meal I chose the taco salad. To describe it in a single word, it would be "boring". I had the recommended dressing, which was a kind of spicy, creamy one (I forgot the name of it). But it didn't have enough flavor to it, and the ground beef didn't have enough flavor to it, and of course cold tomatoes don't have much flavor left in them, which leaves only cheese and guac as the remaining components (besides lettuce), and you can begin to see why it fell short of being exciting. Actually there were a few leaves of what appeared to be cabbage, and specks of carrot. And a few tortilla strips. But basically it was just lettuce and bland ingredients. The arrangement didn't help. The ingredients were each piled in a separate quadrant of the salad, but that means you don't get a mixture of flavors in each bite; it's lettuce and cheese, or lettuce and beef, or lettuce and tomato, etc... I think of a taco salad as very seasoned ground beef in every bite, with lettuce, tomato, and cheese -- like when you eat a taco!! Go figure... And in addition to that, I was expecting it to be served in an edible, crispy bowl made from a deep-fried tortilla. I saw that online before deciding to come here for the taco salad. That's part of the flavor in it. But it came in a ceramic bowl. I asked why that was, and the waitress said that they stopped doing it during the pandemic. She didn't know why. But if I could guess, it would be that for takeout meals, either they'd have to put the ingredients inside the bowl, which would then get soggy on the way home, or else package the bowl separately, which would be more packaging for them, and still the bowl could break and piss-off the customer. BUT I DIDN'T ORDER IT AS TAKEOUT so let's start serving it as before, ok? I'm sure that they have other items on the menu that are decent. But as a traveler to San Antonio, I'm not going to be spending my limited number of nights here figuring out which those are. Check out the other Yelp reviews for that info. read more

I'm a native of San Antonio. This food is crap. This is HOOTERS for Mexican food, there is NO FOOD Quality here. Cheese - From a can, Tortillas - from a bag, Chips - from a Bag, Sauces - from a can. Basically an assembly line back there in the 'kitchen'. There is no creativity, there is no 'cooking' going on and there is NO Authenticity to Jalisco or any other region. It's a Male Tourist trap. So pay high prices for canned crap if you want, but this is NOT tex mex or Mexican food. Finally gave this place a try and it is good. I will go back again. The service was good and that of course, if you read my reviews is a huge deal breaker for me. The nacho bar is great and free during happy hour. It has cheeses, salsas, seasoned ground beef and refried beans. No need to purchase an appetizer if you go during happy hour. Sadly I did not have an alcoholic beverage but I will return for one soon! We ordered the stacked blue enchiladas with chicken and salsa verde, and a chicken ranchera enchilada with a beef chile relleno. Both dishes had good flavor and portions were huge (at least for two females). The only thing I will say is that both enchiladas were a too dry upon arrival but the waitress was happy to grab more of the sauces for us and chile relleno needs a little work as far as presentation goes. I actually think both dishes could use a little more attention to presentation but that won't stop me from going back again. The décor is fun and different for a Tex-Mex restaurant. We love Chuys, but seeing a 3.5 review was a bit concerning about this location. We decided to just go for it regardless, and glad we did. Server Bella was great right of that bat. Wife was iffy about there frozen margarita so Bella offered a sample. Her people skills were cool and that's great to see in the post Covid world where almost everything has gone down in quality. So disappointed. I have been to a Chuy's 3 times in the past 4 months. Spring, Tx, Austin, Tx and Bowling Green, Kentucky. Each time I ask for charro beans (whole beans from which refried beans are made). the first time I asked - Feb in Spring, I was told they don't have charro beans. I asked how that was possible since whole beans have to be made before refried beans. The waiter said "We just don't have them". After I explained how refried beans are made and said they must be using powdered beans, he denied that. However, the other two times I got the same response - "We don't have those, only refried". There is no other way to make refried beans except to cook whole beans first unless one uses powdered beans. Definitely powdered beans at Chuys. Quality has started circling the drain. Came for a quick bit between spring break activities. I really love coming here and it's mainly because of the Mexican decor. There is something about it that is comforting. I had the stuffed avocado. It is deep fried and stuffed with chicken. It was ok. The stuffing was minimal and the breaded crust was a little to dried. Comes with rice and beans which were good. My kids shared the chicken tenders with fries. My kids don't eat much so one basket (about 4 tenders) was enough for them both. Staff members are nice and friendly. Saturday at 4:51. When I called I am put on hold a long time. Then JJ the bartender takes my order and tells me to come inside when I get there. So much for curbside service. Order was not ready for over 30 mins. I got the feeling JJ did not put it in until I showed up. So I am there waiting. I get home 22 minutes away and the order is wrong! I said corn tortillas, I got flour. I said no sour cream, and the container is swimming in sour cream and hardly any pico. The chips were soaked in grease which never happens at any Chuy's and I have been a customer for over 23 years beginning in Austin! This is the WORST location EVER! I am so fed up with this location. Very poor management and quality control. A server at my default location on IH10 told me this location is hated because of the "Marbachians," people who have no class and do not tip. So employees get burned but the it becomes a vicious cycle and they start burning the customers. I regret I left that bozo a tip! Meal sucks. I started with a Mexican martini, a full 18 ozs of delight. The hot sauce was very chunky and thick, the chips hot, fresh, and crisp. Bonus, ask and they will bring you green sauce. I was strong today, no Grande Mexican platter. I went with the Tex-Mex salad combo, a nice-sized salad accompanied with a bowl of tortilla soup. Actually, I was to unable to finish it all.
