This was our second time there. We had no wait on an early Saturday evening even with a party of 7. Our waiter was good, but not great. The food was very flavorful. There was just the right amount and all 7 of had a great meal and desserts. After 2.5 hours we noticed we had lost track of time and gave up our table. The atmosphere was eclectic and noisy, metal palm trees next to aged family photos. Also to add to the craziness the music playing didn't match the menu, top forty playing when you might expect ranchero, or a nice Latin folk song. The staff was friendly and the service was good. The servers were very diverse and this was nice, I was surprised that when I asked about the photos my waiter had no clue about there history. I asked my waiter for a suggestion and I was directed to the items on the menu in green which indicated they were popular choices. The food was disappointing but eatable. The food looked prefabricated, it had little to no flavor. The only saving grace was that the price for the meal was great. I don't need to return. read more

the steak burrito is a great meal if your hungry! I always get it with " boom boom " sauce and pour some of their creamy jalapeño sauce on it as well. only " downfall " that some people might not like is it's only filled with steak but I enjoy it so much! come with rice and beans as well. the only thing that made it a 4 star review for me was the quesadilla my fiancé ordered was very greasy and not good in my opinion we both didn't take more then 2 bites from it. the steak burrito with the sauces I mentioned is 10/10 in my book read more

This is the 2nd time I went to eat at Chuy's once in the fall of 2018 and once recently at the beginning of the year. The service and food are just not that good. Let me clarify on specifics. So when we walked in, everyone was friendly. After being seated and drink orders taken there was not a lot of service afterwards. The server took forever with drinks, orders were not right, the refills were not followed up so we had to wait and then ask when the server finally came around again. Now the chips are good. However the salsa is spicy and it was weird that one sauce at the table (it's like a ranch) was mild and the other was spicy. The food was not good. My husband got enchiladas and I got steak fajitas. These are easy foods and we're not that picky about them. I mean we like taco bell, plaza azteca, etc. The server never came around after we ate, so we didn't bother with dessert and just trying to get and pay the check was at least 20 minutes. To note, the floors were really dirty, the place was loud, and the tables and menus sticky. Sheesh! We will not be planning on going back again, that's for sure. read more

This was my first visit to this restaurant. I'm giving three stars mostly for the atmosphere and food. However, the service was excellent. I thought the decoration was not very fitting for a Tex-Mex restaurant. It looked more like a diner with mismatching furniture. The seats were different colors at the booths, one side had green glitter and the other side was a dull green color. JD was our waiter and he was extremely friendly and answered any questions. He explained everything very well including the additional nacho bar, the menu and the sauces. The chips and sauces were perfect, and almost filling. I ordered combination #5 Chalupa & Enchilada. It didn't have much flavor, I think if I had ordered a dish with steak it may have tasted better. My friend had ordered the Steak Burrito and that was definitely tasty. If i return, I probably would be sure to either order an appetizer or try the Steak Burrito. read more

Hit or miss on the service. It seems that Saturday night is the busiest. The wait can be at least 30 min to get a table, followed by another 30 just to get your food. Not sure what it is, but the portion sizes and attentive service has gone down. The food is still good though. Chuy's is definitely one of my go-to tex-mex spots. They have a pretty big menu and are always accommodating with substitutions, so it's perfect for vegetarians and satisfies every time. I ordered the quesadillas to try something new. Although they were listed as an appetizer, they were pretty big and honestly super filling. It's a flour tortilla stuffed with cheese, green chilies, and onions. It's served with a side of guacamole, sour cream, and tomatoes. Rather than one big quesadilla, they serve you four smaller ones that will definitely quench your appetite. The cheese pairs well with seasoned veggies makes for the perfect bite when dipped in some boom boom sauce. Chuy's is also one of my favorite spots because of their assortment of sauces. Although I like the boom boom the best, I highly recommend trying them all out to find your favorite. I also order the ranchero on the side anyways! The tomatillo sauce is tangy but mild and made from fresh green tomatillos, green onions, cilantro, and garlic. The deluxe tomatillo adds in sour cream, herbs, and spices for a creamier finish. The ranchero made with fire-roasted tomatoes, caramelized onions, bell peppers, cilantro, spices giving it a zesty flavor. The fan favorite boom boom is made from roasted New Mexican chiles, tomatillos, green onions, cilantro, and melted cheese. I always wanted try to the green chile and hatch green chile but unfortunately they aren't vegetarian. Overall Chuy's has a great ambiance, have unlimited chips and salsa, and the dishes can sometimes even be big enough to split! Pro-tip: if you order two half portions of a dish, you get double the sides! read more

Oh Chuy's, how I love thee. Whether it's the unlimited comp sauces or the extensive menu, I'm always happy coming here! I tend to lean towards their fajitas (yes I know it's boring) but this time tried their rellenos. They were AMAZING. Crisp on the outside, fresh on the inside. I recommend asking for the sauce on the side because that would keep it crisp longer. I wish they offered more seafood on the menu (only 1 item that I could find), but I suppose that isn't the TexMex style? I knocked off 1 star because the waiter was a little bit detached and you could tell they were very understaffed, which did impact our experience. Nice guy but wasn't totally 'there'. Had another amazing meal last night at Chuys. The portions are so big, I always have enough for lunch the next day. Before I move out of the area, I wanted to try their Elvis Green Chile Fried Chicken, which they describe as "A Chuy's original. A tender chicken breast breaded with Lay's potato chips, deep fried and smothered in Green Chile sauce and cheddar cheese. Served with green chile rice and refried beans." I am not much of a fried food eater, but this has piqued my interest since I first saw the menu. Our server Kane (who was excellent) highly recommended it as well. My friend got the Veggie Enchilada "Spinach, onions, zucchini, yellow squash, red bell peppers, serranos, roasted green chiles, corn & cheese in homemade blue corn tortillas with Ranchero sauce." She also took half of hers home. We had to have dessert. I lived in Costa Rica and fell in love with el pastel con tres leches, known here as Tres Leche Cake. Chuys definitely makes one of the best I have tasted stateside. Our portion was huge and we were both overly stuffed upon finishing (we couldn't let it go to waste...thank God we both work out so it won't hopefully go to our waists, either (see what I did there?). Wow where do I begin. We have our go to restaurant, this time with it being so far we decided to try something new. Chuys was on our way home. Not only was the food EXCELLENT (we had the steak burrito and fajitas) but with it being our first time, they surprised us with an assortment of sauces to try to choose our meal. The atmosphere and service was the best part. Sunshine was amazing, I hope you get the chance to have her as your waitress and just as amazing was the manager who took the time to welcome us and check in to ensure that we enjoyed the food and had a great experience. Both were extremely friendly and made the experience even better. Kudos to them! We will definitely be back and for those of you who have never tried it and are looking to test out a new restaurant, we definitely recommend it! read more

Chuy's Sterling, Va. used to be such a fun place to visit but definitely on the decline. The "Happy Hour" is very limited and actually expensive. The food and service is below average. We were so happy when they opened, as we enjoyed Chuy's many times in Austin, Tx. Absolutely no hurry to return. read more

Called for the manager and all she did was blame it on the delivery team from the night before for leaving the door open all night. This is the closest Chuy's location from home. We love Chuy's and have always enjoyed ourselves no matter which location we visit. The hostess was welcoming and friendly. Our sever was attentive and friendly. I love how complimentary chips and salsa arrives to the table shortly after you are seated. I'm usually not a big fan of enchiladas, but the ones at Chuy's are delicious! Their portions are always generous and they use quality ingredients. End your meal with a Tres Leches or Flan and you're good to go. We just love Chuy's! read more

I like the tex mex variety this place offers. Prices (for menu items) are reasonable and the amount of food is plenty if you're hungry. Last week I went after a dentist appointment. I was there for happy hour, from 4-7 PM. I ordered a shiner and the three taco dinner. Service at the bar is spotty so i was dry for a few before another server grabbed me another shiner. After I finish my food and the last of the brew I get my check. On the website and on the menu it is clearly printed 'domestic beers $4.25" . My check indicates $6 each. Shiner is made in Texas which classifies as domestic. I inquire with the bartender and he finds a manager. I explain to her about the domestic clause on the menu and she says she will send an email and won't correct my check. False advertising! I won't be back until they correct this error or show me the hidden beer list where the 'domestic' applies and other 'domestic' doesn't apply. Don't advertise one thing and refuse to honor what you advertise. Pretty bad for a chain. read more

If you're Mexican, like me, stay away. You'll be terribly disappointed. The food is exactly what you'd get if your high school cafeteria would suddenly decide to make Mexican food. The salsas were not hot, the chips are meh, and the cheese is processed. The flour tortillas are fresh I think but made by a machine I'm certain. Again, I don't normally review chains, but this is an exception simply because of the fact they are a very limited one. I guess I should stop once I start seeing them in almost every city, but they aren't there... yet. Okay, so I'm one more visit to getting my free entree. That alone I'm excited for. But it won't be at this location. It was really busy, so maybe that was part of the issue (definitely was Happy hour). But I sensed a lot of confusion with the wait staff. Nobody really knew what table to serve, servers looked confused where to drop chip trays, even drinks. I waited a good 10 minutes before a server even approached me to ask what I want. I got the stacked enchiladas, something I didn't have before. They are small, but good. Probably would try to find another menu item but this was certainly not a downer. Anyhow, I also asked for water. I was about halfway done with my entree when I realized my water still hadn't arrived yet. My server then coincidentally appears as I need it and I ask, "Any idea what happened to the water?" She looked shocked, apologized, and a few moments later, brought it out. By the time I needed the water, my entree was finished. She looked stressed out, but again, it was busy. In the end when I got the bill I just paid it and left. I didn't even want to stick around. This was just not a good experience. Chuy's advertises themselves as being fun and funky, but it wasn't fun to sit there constantly waiting. That was funky, and not in the good variety. A lot of changes learned there is an $8 service charge to do touch less pay after the transaction also no more drink refills includes found that out at the end after we ordered a refil or two would have been nice to know there were new up charges. The food was usual of medium quality except there was lest than warm fresh tortillas which was the best part of the meal but no more. The fam and I have eaten here several times. It's a close, convenient fix for Tex-Mex. But it's a bit of a letdown. I've dined at (and reviewed) Chuy's in other locations, including Maryland and Texas, and this one in Sterling really doesn't live up to any of the others. The Tex-Mex sauce is bitter, flat, flavorless. Just bitter and wet. That's it. Enchiladas- soooooo skimpy on the filling the corn tortilla is actually thicker than the cheese inside the cheese enchilada. It was so obviously a flat-tire empty enchilada, my wife said something, and a guy at another table overheard her and said his enchiladas were just as flat. My wife does loves their chile rellenos. I found the burritos flavorless too. Those are stuffed and fat; but it's so much filler the taste is thinned out and dry. You really have to make up for it with sauce. If that's what I want, why wouldn't I just order a bowl of green chile in the first place? We'll probably continue to eat here on occasion, but I will have to try to find a dish that's good. Hasn't happened yet. The tomatilla sauce and Hatch green chili sauce are good, so whatever I try next, I'm avoiding the Tex-Mex sauce. read more

I usually do not write reviews for chain restaurants like Chuy's, but I wanted to make an exception. Chuy's just opened their newest location in Sterling, and I think they did great tonight. Our server, Laura, was fast and accommodating. She checked up on us frequently, and took away any plates at our table whenever we finished. Definitely appreciated that she answered all our questions too!! I've never been to Chuy's prior to this, but I have heard much about their signature happy hour gimmick: a car trunk filled with ingredients for build-your-own-nachos. It was pretty good for free nachos!! It came with unlimited chips (very thin, crisp) and queso, seasoned ground beef, salsa, and refried beans. I ordered a chicken tortilla soup, which I was kind of thrown off about because I thought it would be a creamy soup. However, it was a cheesy chicken noodle soup. It was nonetheless good, but pricey; about $6 for a small. My friend ordered their guacamole which definitely needs improvement. It was bland, and needed seasoning and/or salt. Their menu doesn't advertise a la carte items, which is my only other qualm. I wasn't starving, so I was bummed that I couldn't order anything smaller-portioned... Almost everything was a platter or entree ranging from about $9-$20. Overall, the place grew packed with other patrons as the night went on. I noticed their outdoor patio, which will be nice when the weather gets better. They had a lot of workers, and seemed well prepared for the crowd. When we packed up our food, our server gave us a generous amount of chips to take home with our guacamole, and also packed us salsa. Very sweet gesture!!! So the first time I came here it was part of a preview event. I got a great sampling of the menu items available and made a clear mental note to return pronto. The food was excellent and got to learn about Chuy's and how the food and drinks are prepared fresh onsite. I'd give this place 5 stars but there were a few small things based on my visit last night. 1. Parking, is tough and bound to only get worse once the other businesses in the complex open. I think I'll need to strategically plan for that one later on. 2. Lack of handicapped spaces. My dad who accompanied us he's got some mobility issues he can walk but distances are rough on him. There were only 2 handicapped spaces in front of the restaurant and they were occupied by others with handicapped placards. So my hubby dropped my dad and I off near the entry so he wouldn't have to walk too far. 3. Its crazy loud in there, don't come here for a date night unless you really don't want to talk to them. Although I will say the music they were playing some great 80's tunes. The food and the value were excellent overall, three meals, and my margarita came to about $35 in total. My dad got a taco salad which he really enjoyed, I'm not quite sure what my husband got, I think it was some sort of combination platter but he said it was really good. I got a steak burrito which was good although the meat want quite as tender as the steak burrito I had at the preview event but it was still good and I'd 100% order it again. A note to yelpers who don't like spicy stuff...the food here tends to err on the spicy side although there are milder options. The salsa, the pico is spicy, so when the chips come I ask for the creamy jalepeno, believe it or not its much milder than the pico salsa. Secondly if your meal comes with rice the Mexican rice is crazy spicy. I believe they have a milder option although I didn't think to ask for it, I ended up giving the rice to my husband.. The staff was quite attentive and for being a Wednesday night it was pretty packed. So a big kudos to them, this place is off to a great start so far. One other thing, during the preview I was in the bar area, they have a nacho car. Seriously they do! From M-F during happy hour time from 4-7, they basically have a replica of a car hollowed out and a nacho bar complete with salsa, chips, queso, etc. where you can make your own nachos. Also related to the bar the drinks, I got a frozen lime margarita this time you can taste the difference that its not made with a premix and they use real limes, just beware or it could be that my tolerance has decreased with time, they are strong drinks although the alcohol is kinda sneaky and you don't really feel it. The chips were from a bag, and stale; and the "tool trust" creamy jalepeno dip advertised on their site is runny and tastes like bottled ranch dressing with too much salt. The enchiladas just okay, but the red sauce tasted good; the chimichanga had more bread/flour then filling; waitress did not take the order down accurately and instead of coming to the table, she took the order from a nearby table using the table next to us as a writing pad. And the worst part of this review is that a single curly black hair was found in my beans (after I began eating it) -- needless to say, this was not my hair, and there are ants in the bathroom, which means they are probably in the kitchen. First time at Chuy's, outside looked nice, but the inside kinda made me wonder; the section we were seated was decorated like a diner, not what I expected from a Tex Mex restaurant. I was in a party of 7 and at least 2 of the people had been before and liked it. Unfortunately, for all of us the experience fell flat. The food was okay; portion size decent but the flavors lacked harmony. Even normal staples like cheese dip was less than impressive. The positive part was the service; friendly and attentive. I have been mostly on the fence about Chuy's for a while, some dishes are good, some not so much. Mostly I find everything is super spicey, so much so that it takes away from the flavor of the food. However, I always received good service- until last night, 10/29. My wife and I walked in the restaurant at about 7 pm, and the people at the host stand were engaged in some type of game that took all their attention, so we stood there for a few minutes while they completed the game- harmless enough and they were sufficiently embarrassed that they hadn't noticed us, so we were fine with it. We were seated and then our server, Michelle came over and took our drink orders. We made up our minds and Michelle came back to take our orders. I made the horrible mistake of asking her which sauces were not spicey and she literally just stood there and looked at me. I told her I didn't have my glasses and couldn't see the list of sauces...but she stood there. My wife dug out her glasses and gave them to me, but I again erred by asking Michelle again which were not spicey and she didn't say a word, just pointed at the list of sauces, so I just picked one and she walked away without saying a word. My wife and I looked at each other and asked what the heck just happened? The food came and it was okay- the rice was really, really, overcooked, but the tacos were good and the fajita chicken burrito was good, if not a little dry. I asked for some sour cream and was basically done with my meal by the time it came. The restaurant was not full at all or I would have understood the lack of service better. We finished up and Michelle dropped off the check- and we gave her our credit card, she returned with the receipt and walked away- again, without one.freaking.word. Nothing. Unbelievable. She is simply the worst server I've encountered in a long time, she does not have the personality for a fun place like Chuy's, but is perfect for the DMV. I went there for the first time last night with a group of nine. The place had very fun decorations, it's family friendly, and has a nacho bar during happy hour. I only took one trip to the nacho bar, since it's not in the best location, and was really crowded. The service was not bad, but our waitress was a little forgetful. The food itself is a decent price, I got the chicken burrito. It was good, but honestly nothing special, and I enjoy Chipotle burritos more.
