I ordered one of their "House Specialties" , the Chuychanga. Although the plate arrived dangerously hot, like just out of a blazing oven, the tortilla itself wasn't "deep-fried" but soft. Still, the medium sauce and beans and rice were delicious. Also, as usual mounds of tortilla chips and a small amount of salsa, clearly mis-proportioned. All-in-all the best TexMex I've had in 2 years. However, the only TexMex I've had in 2 years, after an authentic place in downtown little Point Pleasant WVa that was just grand. The food was okay, but the service really dinged the overall experience here. Sadly, the poor service clouded everything, because the flavors were okay, with a good amount of spice. We opted to sit outside and I'm not sure if our original server was done with her shift, but she was never to be seen again after the first quarter of our visit. After that quarter, we could barely get anyone's attention for utensils and napkins (didn't have any), refills on drinks, and order corrections. If we did get anyone's attention, their attention span were all over the place. I'm not sure if they were short staffed or if the servers had tables both outside and inside, or whatever, but they need to figure that out. Food was lukewarm when we received it and dishes were missing parts that were noted by a server, but the server failed to come back with it. Same with after bringing out burritos for half the party and asking for knives, it did take about 30minutes for knives to be brought. By that time, all of the food had gotten cold. The only thing that was consistent about the service was that we had chip runner that refilled chips consistently, but failed to follow through with drink refills, knives, etc. read more

My wife had talked about visiting a Chuy's in Austin years ago and raved about it. Now that they gave expanded to the east coast we decided to try them. Inside feels like a typical chain restaurant- almost trying too hard to be kitschy. That said, the wait staff was great for the whole meal. It's obviously a very kid friendly place as we were surrounded by families. They had a great kids menu too. The food is what really impressed me though. It's been tough to find decent tex mex in the area. But the taco and enchilada I had were both excellent- tons of flavor with just the right amount of spiciness. I've now been to this Chuy's 3 times. The first time was during their soft opening where we were impressed at how smoothly things were up and running. The second time, we went during their happy hour. We sat in the bar, ordered drinks and ate from the nacho car. This recent time we went for dinner. We were there on a Wednesday around 5:30 p.m. and were seated immediately. At that time of day, the place wasn't very busy. Our server was prompt getting to us. He was friendly and well versed in the menu. To drink, I ordered the house frozen margarita. Our daughter had the strawberry frozen one. My husband had a beer. I like Chuy's house margaritas as they are well balanced with good flavor. For dinner, I ordered chile rellenos. While tasty, they weren't very well prepared. The first time we tried Chuy's was in the Fairfax location and the rellenos were properly prepared. The batter adhered very well to the chiles. On subsequent visits to Chuy's, the batter was very thick and didn't adhere to the chiles. During the soft opening, I had brought up this issue with one of the managers. She told me that happens when the chiles aren't dipped properly into the batter and have too much batter remaining on them after dipping. When she told me this, I had hoped that this Chuy's, at least, would do better...but, no. I debated asking for the manager or at least hoped that s/he would come around checking on customers but that didn't happen. So...I ate it as is. The rice was well prepared and not dried out. The refried beans were also good. I had tomatillo sauce which was mild and complimented the rice very well. As usual, it was a filling meal. Our daughter had the comida deluxe which consists of: "Cheese Tex-Mex enchiladas, chicken flautas, a seasoned ground sirloin crispy taco, guacamole and homemade tostada chips dipped in chile con queso". Needless to say, this was a lot of food and she couldn't finish it all! She liked everything on her plate. In particular, she was impressed with the guac. I tried it and agreed with her---it was fresh and light with good flavors. My husband had the classic Tex-Mex enchiladas which have cheese and onion in them. This has become his go-to dish at Chuy's. He always enjoys this dish. This time he also added a side crispy taco and was glad he did. Overall, a good experience. We most certainly will go again to this one as it is the closest one to where we live. I was lucky enough to attend Chuy's Charity Night, which promoted Youth for Tomorrow and provided guests with a sneak peek before their grand opening on 4/26! Immediately upon walking in, I was greeted by a group of super enthusiastic employees. The vibe was awesome and the atmosphere was poppin! I absolutely LOVED the festive decor and interior of the restaurant, which included vibrant paintings and unique decorations mounted along their walls. Guacamole - Made up of a blend of fresh avocados and Salsa Fresca, the guacamole tasted very creamy and fresh. It paired perfectly with their crisp tortilla chips! Beef Fajitas ($15.49) - The fajitas are described as being marinated for 24 hours in their signature blend of Shiner Bock beer, Serrano peppers, lime juice, and other spices. My fajitas came out SIZZLING hot and included a side of soft tortillas, beans, rice, and toppings. The beef was flavorful and the toppings added a refreshing taste. I also loved how their tortillas are freshly made and hand rolled from scratch! Shrimp and Cheese Chile Rellenos ($11.79) - The Rellenos included two large peppers stuffed with shrimp and cheese. Also included were sides of beans and rice. The dish had a great blend of spices and a nice kick of heat! Tres Leche Cake - What a pleasant surprise! Our server brought us this beautiful cake topped with caramel and strawberries. The cake tasted extremely light (which I loved) and was the perfect balance between savory and sweet. In addition to the delicious food, the service was great. Our server, DJ, was quite attentive throughout our meal and provided many recommendations. She was also very upbeat and personable. All-in-all, I was very satisfied with my dinner and overall experience! In the sad, sordid history of Washington, DC area Mexican/Latino restaurants comes a new player- Chuy's (pronounced "chewies"), bringing light to the tasteless tunnel housing Don Pablo's, Anita's, Chipotle, Guapo's, etc. Could there be hope for us for an authentic place to get our spicy salsa grub on? Enter Chuy's in Sterling, which opened about May 2016. Before we went in, I noticed the cool outside scene, resembling some Tijuana outdoor cafe. Nice lights and clean. They actually have a bean bag game you can play in the patio, too. An employee was playing around with some kids. Touching. My wife, young daughter, and I were received by no less than three people upon entering, a hopeful sign of care and customer attention. There's a parking garage nearby, although we had no trouble finding a spot in the lot. FYI, this is a brand-new shopping center, so there's lots of construction happening. Be careful. The decor inside is tropical- metal trees and lanterns, also harking back to Tijuana or some similar town. They have an observation area where you can watch an employee making the tortilla bread from scratch- a nice touch. Our server was worthless. He had little knowledge of the menu, especially allergen issues, like gluten and dairy sensitivities. We weren't given any silverware, and he didn't notice until AFTER our main course was served- by him! Oh, and he messed up our order. Good gracious! I will say a positive note here, in fairness- the food arrived promptly. I was actually surprised that it was only 10 minutes from order to service. The tortilla chips and salsa were bland. In fact, the salsa (pico de gallo?) was cold and spicy. I may be mistaken here- isn't salsa supposed to be room temperature? Especially when it's got a kick? The restroom was decently clean and included a couple of modern touches- taps with sensors and a Dyson air blade. I ordered their "famous, big as your head" burrito with oven-fresh chicken; the wife had a shrimp enchilada, and chicken tenders and fries for the little one. (Don't judge our parenting- we do better at home.) The burrito wasn't the worst, I'll say, but nothing to brag about. The tastes of the chicken, refried (vegetarian) beans, and cheese converged into one cheesy chicken mix. He left the Tex-Mex sauce on the side, which is good, because it's horrible- like straight out of a store container. I mean, I could taste the high fructose corn syrup. Upon leaving, the waiter handed me a frequent diner card- one free entree with the purchase of five. It's in the recycling bin. Have we found our Latino place? Not nearly. Not even close. At this point, I'm closing the search for good DC Mexican. If you have a favorite spot, message me. The happy hour featured 3 signature dishes, 2 drinks, a nacho bar, bottomless chips and salsa and lots of happy patrons!! They even gifted guests with souvenir cocktail shakers (that included a coupon for a free appetizer). SWEET!!! It was an amazing happy hour to say the least! The drinks: This happy hour featured 2 drinks - the Lime Margarita on the rocks and the Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri. Both very tasty! This was a sneak peak; however, they did not hold back on the liquor. I'm not much of a drinker so the Lime Margarita was a bit too strong for me. The Strawberry Daiquiri was perfect and so refreshing. It was completely frozen and smooth. Not too watery, not too sweet and not too strong. The food: As mentioned above, they featured three of their signature dishes. The cheese enchiladas were great! Simple with gooey cheese, onions and Tex-Mex sauce. Served with rice and refried (vegetarian) beans. The Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom enchiladas were amazeballs!! I could not pull away! It's freshly-roasted, hand-pulled chicken & cheese with Boom-Boom sauce (made of cheese, roasted New Mexican green chiles, tomatillos, green onions, cilantro and lime juice). To die for and a must try!! By the time the beef fajita burrito came around I could not make any more room. I was just about in a food coma so I only tried a piece of the meat which was tender and juicy. The rice was so flavorful! It consists of a tortilla stuffed with refried beans, cheese and beef fajita served with choice Mexican rice and charro beans. Listen, if you've not made your way to Chuy's make plans now!! Chuy's is such an authentic Tex-Mex restaurant. The first time I went there was at the Rockville,MD location. I would recommend the chicken tacos or fajitas (when can you ever go wrong with this?). Also, when you get the chips and salsa, don't forget to order their "white sauce". I don't know the actual name but they'll know what you're talking about. This location was extremely busy but the food was good per usual. I gave it a 4 star because our waitress had an "attitude" on her. I attended the unofficial Yelp happy hour event prior to Chuy's grand opening yesterday & I have to say that everyone pulled off a flawless, exceptionally well orchestrated event. Excitement was in the air from the welcoming at the front door, to snapping pics with Chuy the Redfish (their mascot) & being sung to - yes, a fish that sings! Including Nadem, our totally awesome, attentive server & all the servers that brought out one delicious entrée after another, as well as management who stopped in several times providing additional insights from décor to ingredients. From start to the moment we walked out with our leftover box, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. In addition to the feel good vibes the sunshine poured into the bar area, that seamlessly opens up to a large patio with colorful overhung lights, making this an awesome spot to grab some drinks, day or night! The classic Margarita on the Rocks with fresh squeezed lime juice is refreshing & certainly not a premixed, syrupy, loaded with sugar kind of drink. Additional incentive, not that you need any, is that they offer an AYCE nacho bar featuring delicious chips, fresh salsa, warm queso, seasoned ground beef & beans, weekdays 4-7pm for free! The restaurant side (completely unseen from the bar area) is also welcome to nacho bar as well. I could have easily of made of meal of this... Until the hot, enticing entrees began streaming out from the kitchen. We started with the Classic Tex-Mex Enchiladas, filled with gooey cheese & onions, topped with a Tex-Mex sauce, the true highlight of the dish. Next up, the Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom Enchiladas & again the sauce being the highlight because the chicken was rather bland to me. It may have been a soft opening, but there was nothing soft about my blue corn tortilla, the iceberg lettuce in the guacamole or the sincere welcome from the hostesses to the servers! Admittedly I'd been to Chuy's Fairfax so I knew the food was fresh, but did you know the only items Chuy's keeps in the freezer are ice cream and French fries?! What I loved most about attending their soft opening was I had a chance to learn some of quirky idiosyncrasies' known only to the truest of true Chuy's VIP's: 1. Did you know every Chuy's location has plainly visible "hidden" pieces? Chuy's Sterling has little babies. I stopped counting on discovery of 6, but I'm betting there could easily be 30 or more. 2. Did you know bringing in a framed picture of your dog could score you a free dessert? 3. The local staff is augmented during during opening week by veteran Chuy employees (most of whom are from TX). The amount of 'care' still taken by the owners to ensure the values persist as the chain spreads across the nation really resonated to me as a patron. This is the first time I have been to Chuy's. It was packed for a Sunday night. However, my girlfriend and I were seated with 10 minutes. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. Tortilla chips and salsa were on the house and they were DELICIOUS! The salsa had a good spicy kick to it and the chips were thin, light, and super crispy. I couldn't help it but to ask for seconds :) I ordered the chicka chicka boom boom and my girlfriend got the Elvis fried chicken for our main courses. Both were fresh out of the oven and were extremely tasty. My dish came with Mexican rice, double fried bean, and two chicken enchiladas with boom boom sauce drizzled on top. The boom boom sauce compliment the dish quite well and made everything hella good. My girlfriend's dish had two chicken breasts fried in lays potatoes oil - OMG, it was awesome! The chicken were cooked perfectly and the lay potatoes made it amazingly crunchy! I highly recommend both of these dishes to anyone! You won't be disappointed, I promise! Overall, we were very happy with our food and the service. We didn't expect much of Chuy's since both of us aren't too fond about American chain restaurants. However, Chuy's took us by surprise. We were celebrating and where do we go? Chuy's of course! We like Chuy's but I have to say last night was just so incredible. We called and ordered a to-go order at around 8:45. We were in Reston and headed that way. "We are about to close so please come soon" they said. Had no idea they closed early but we were less than 10 minutes away with light traffic so we ordered a steak burrito to go with some of their sauces. We got there and it wasn't quite ready but no big deal it came up a minute later. Hot and packaged really well with all the sauces. We don't normally finish this meal between two people but I couldn't stop eating - it was so tasty. Wanted to thank the staff for doing Tex-Mex right! The service here is impeccable. I am giving this five stars because not only was my enchilada delicious, but the entire experience was a joy. Service was fast and we didn't have to wait long for food or drinks. I would really like to take a moment to thank Krista (hopefully I'm spelling this correctly), who is possibly the manager, but I'm not sure. I have celiac, so eating out is a challenge,and most people disregard a request for gluten free fairly nonchalant because of all the people that don't actually have an allergy. Krista not only sat with me and went over what i could eat, she double checked my order when it was turned in to be certain. This rarely ever happens and i am beyond grateful. My friend and I immediately felt welcomed by the staff as everyone was extremely friendly and enthusiastic. We started out with the margarita on the rocks. It was delicious and not overly sweet like at other restaurants. The chips and salsa that were provided for us to munch on were like crack. We literally couldn't stop eating them. The second drink I got was the frozen strawberry daiquiri. This was perfectly refreshing and made me feel like I should've been on vacation! The first entree we tried was the Tex-Mex enchilada. The red chile sauce that they make from scratch was quite tasty. The enchiladas were perfectly cheesy and the portion size was decent. The second dish we had was the Chick Chicka Boom Boom enchiladas, which has a green chile cheese sauce. This was our favorite entree of the night. The enchiladas were delectable and definitely something I would order again. I couldn't get enough of the sauce. By this point of the dinner, we were pretty full, but we couldn't stop eating from this dish! Lastly, we had the steak burrito. The burrito itself could probably serve as 3 different meals for me...it was gigantic! This is definitely a burrito worth cheating on your diet for. Love the set up of the brand new location, there's an outside patio and bar area split on one side of the restaurant and the main dining section on the other. We started the evening off with sharing the Compuesto, as if the complimentary chips and salsa were not addicting enough, the queso kicked it up a notch by satisfying the cheese and diary lover in me. Chicka chicka boom boom - The name says it all, their signature boom sauce has this dish bouncing with flavor. The server tried to warn me about the spiciness of the sauce, it was pretty mild to me, but just as an FYI to other customers who cannot handle even a bit of heat. Steak burrito - Handmade tortilla stuffed with steak and spicy green chile sauce? Say no more, you've already won me over with the menu description. The entree satisfied my carb and meat cravings, the rice and beans were great additions to complement the tasty meal. Tres Leches - Completely surprised by the generous portion the server gave us! Originally my friends thought they were full from their meals, however their minds were changed after their first bite of this dessert. In the words of my San Antonio-born, Mexican mother: this place and its food is "legit." And I agree! I really enjoyed my first meal here. The food, to me, felt less greasy than other Tex Mex restaurants I have tried in the area; in other words, I didn't feel like I was carrying a heavy food baby in my stomach when I came out of the place. I had their chicken soft tacos with pulled chicken, and our table also ordered a round of steak fajitas. A decent serving amount for both dishes, along with bottomless chips (and their salsa has a little zing to it, which I liked!) The pulled chicken felt under spiced to me though -- though it had been topped with salt and pepper, it still didn't feel like enough flavor to give my tacos that extra unf. Maybe I will try the chicken fajita and hope to get more flavor out of the meat next time. But other than that, service was nice, quick, and attentive. Overall a great experience! read more

This was my second visit to Chuy's. Service is a hit or miss depending on how busy they are and of course your server. Neither visit for me has had amazing service, but for a fast casual restaurant I didn't expect much either. Food is always great. My family and I usually start with the nachos, which are actually more like tostadas, still yummy though. I've tried their fish and shrimp tacos, and on my last visit, the taco salad which I substituted shrimp for my protein. The shell fell apart almost immediately, but I didn't mind as I didn't plan on eating the shell anyway and just removed it. They also bring out complimentary chips and salsa. Love their salsa, it's so fresh and has a lot of flavor with a little heat and the tortilla chips are so light and crispy. Overall, for a fast casual restaurant serving Tex Mex, I am a fan! We went as part of the sneak preview event they hosted during their opening week. Wow. First off, we were welcomed in this grand entrance complete with a fish mascot (though "Chuy's" was actually named after a dog). All the staff standing ready to welcome you, and we were quickly whisked to our seats. Can you guys keep up with this amazing welcome? It's too awesome. As soon as we sat down, went straight to ordering some drinks. Went for the strawberry margarita. From the taste, it was FRESH. I mean, fresh-strawberries-fresh. Maybe not quite fresh-off-the-farm-fresh, but definitely FRESH. It wasn't too sweet, definitely not engulfed in sugar, and just the right mix of ice! Dee-lee-cious! While waiting, enjoy the queso bar... The chips are so thin and crispy, topped with hot, melted cheese and salsa. Oh my, winning all my favorite things, here! Onto the food. You'll be disappointed, but unfortunately I couldn't quite catch the names of the dishes that were served, but I can tell you that each one is delicious. Pictures are here for your reference. Whatever makes your eyes drool, go ahead and order that one. Perfectly seasoned, the meats are falling out of each wrap, the sauce is deliciously mild but satisfying, and again with the fresh ingredients. Yay! I'll have to say, the Chuy's chicken was probably my favorite. The flavors are the perfect mix of what you think of when you eat "tex-mex." It does remind me of Texas a lot. Come hungry, and come ready to have fun. The staff are ready to have fun with you! Can't wait to come back to Chuy's. Chuys is a great example of when restaurants get "it" right. The service here is awesome, and the food is fantastic and fresh. On this visit I ordered the chicken tacos and they didn't disappoint. I had started out with the queso dip which will blow your mind and tastebuds. Stop by here, hang out and dont forget to check out their t shirts that they have for sale. Decent Mexican cuisine. Good fast service make it a good lunch option for a busy work day. They serve yummy nachos with salsa at every table as you place your order. Decor is bright and peppy. We ordered- Chika chika boom boom - a very popular chicken dish which has freshly cooked chicken in cheese and boom boom sauce with tomatoes, cilantro and lemon juice. Served with mixed beans, small side of brown rice and salad. Chicken was well cooked and tasty. Steak burrito was really yummy. Grilled steak wrapped with cheese in a handmade flour tortilla topped with green chile sauce. It's served with a side of beans and Chile rice . Service was good. Prices are not too high. read more

Highly recommend this place! My wife loves mex style food, but I can't do the spices because of my allergy to peppers. This place accomadated me. The staff is great! They were so polite and friendly. They are heavily service oriented. The place is so clean and has a great atmosphere. Modern pop gently played in the background not overwhelming. Fun place. Restrooms are very clean too. I loved Chuy's in Texas but the one in Sterling VA is hit or miss. I've been there either for dine in (pre Covid) or takeout several times. Last night we got takeout and it was awful. We arrived on time for pick up and waited about 15 min for the food. In that 15 min three people working the curbside pick up asked for the name on the order. When we got home and opened our order the food was cold. It wasn't just cold, the soft tortillas had hardened. The side order of guacamole had turned brown and the chips were stale. I threw my dinner in the trash after 3 or 4 bites. On previous visits they have given us the wrong food in our takeout order and we've had terrible service dining in on one other occasion. It must be time to give up on Chuy's in Virginia. read more

So the Cascades Overlook is one beautiful new shopping area and we see a new Tex-Mex restaurant popped up. Austin, TX's own Chuy's or my son calls it Arrgghhh "Chewy's/Chewbacca's". Since this location is fairly new, the wait is long and so are the lines. We opted for first available and even thought it was hot and humid, we got outside seating. Good thing they had fans blowing. Bad thing, cornhole outside where tables were so a lot of kids were tossing bags into servers, people, tables, etc... Service was okay but slow. Not sure if servers were rookies but it was really busy this evening. Chips and salsa good. Queso very good. Wife ordered Chicka chicka boom boom. Very good she said. Spicy sauce on the juicy chicken enchiladas. I ordered the Tacos Al Carbon (2 soft tacos- one chicken and one beef). Both were juicy and tender. I was surprised. Mexican rice was avg and refried beans were better than avg. I didnt order the beans but wanted Green chili rice. Tad spicy but yummy. Order side hot sauces of Hatch Green Chili and Green Chili. No spice. Disappointing. My issue was that we waited half and hour to get our food and I could tell it was sitting around for at least 5-10 mins. My food was lukewarm. And they didnt get my order right. Kid got cheeseburger and fried. What a waste! Plus apple juice wasnt a kid priced drink? Terrible. At least the kid got a push pop ice cream for dessert as part of the meal. Quality of food is good. Service has to improve. read more

Great Happy Hour!!! 4-7pm. Free queso, meat, chips, refried beans, and salsa. So you can make your own nachos. Don't forget to ask for the huge sauce. It's a creamy jalapeño sauce. Besides the happy hour deals I always get combo number 4. Chicka-chicka boom boom enchilada and a cheese chili relleno with hatch green chili sauce on top.
