Atmosphere is actually pretty good. Lots of funny chihuahua pictures and Mexican license plates. Food is ok. Service for my group was very bad. Waiter seemed to have no idea what he was doing. Never came out to refill water, mixed up food orders (people just had to eat something random they hadn't asked for). Took half an hour to get our group's bills divided up into individual bills, and the concept seemed new to him when it was mentioned. Overall took more than 3.5 hours to have dinner and we didn't order appetizers/desserts. read more

Last week, my husband, son and I went to Chuy's in Woodbridge, and I can't say enough great things about this location! I love that they are a scratch kitchen and make everything on-site - you can really taste it in the quality of their food! We came during happy hour, so there were great bar specials. I had a margarita on the rocks with a salted rim. It wasn't too sweet or mixed with too much sour, like most other places make it. Anyone in the restaurant could - and was even encouraged to - help themselves to the free appetizer bar. This night, you could make your own nachos with all of the best toppings. My son loved that there's an area where you can watch a worker making tortillas. (He's almost 3.) There's a windowed area where kids (or even adults) can stand and watch the tortilla press and cooking process. He was also very excited when he got to have an orange push pop at the end of his meal (we were impressed by that surprise, too). I ate the fried fish tacos (baja tacos), and they reminded me of my childhood. The fish was light and flaky, and the breading had a nice crunch when you bit into it. They put a jalepeno dressing on top of the tacos, too, and it was amazing! I normally skip the beans and rice at Tex Mex restaurants, but these beans and rice were delish! My husband ordered the beef tacos entree and a chicken quesadilla appetizer. HOLY PORTIONS!! They portions were so giving and plentiful that he brought home a doggy bag - something he never does! The beef was shredded and moist (or so he says - I don't eat beef). The guacamole on his dish was also to die for. We are definitely ordering a full side of that for our chips next time! The service was great, too! When we first walked into Chuy's, the greeters looked pleasant and welcomed up. It was a great first impression. Our waiter, Jason (we think that's his name!! We went a week ago, and I am having a hard time remembering his name.), greeted us promptly as we sat at the table to let us know that he would be right over as soon as we are settled. Our waiter was absolutely incredible and on-the-ball! As a person who was formerly in the industry, I REALLY appreciate a good waiter or waitress, and Jason was exactly that. He made sure that our glasses stayed full, and he easily paced our food to arrive at just the perfect time. He also made sure to refresh our chips and salsa whenever it went empty. We were so impressed with our visit that we asked for the manager to come over. Most times when you speak with a manager, they're just not that "into" the conversation - even when you're singing praises of their employee. Not this manager, though! You could tell that he absolutely loved his job. He was enthusiastic and so happy to hear about our experience and invited us to come back again. My family and I went to Chuy's on Wed, 12/27. Our food was great! But I'm not writing this review because of the food, we've always had good food at this location. I am writing this review because we were served one of the best waiters that I've ever had at any restaurant. His name was Steve. We've seen Steve there before but this was the first time that he'd ever waited on us. Steve was very attentive, he held good conversations with us, my kids thought he was great and he made sure we had everything we needed before we could ask. He didn't seem to be "working for a tip," he seemed to really like his job and serving customers. He made Chuy's a great experience and the next time we go, we will ask to sit in his area. read more

The first time we ever went to Chuy's was the original one in Austin. It is always extremely crowded but well worth the wait. We often drove the 45 miles for the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom! We moved to Virginia and were so happy that there was a location less than 10 miles from us! We have never had less than stellar service and at this location, have never had to wait for a table. I love this place inside and out. I love the design and decorations, I love the dining room and the bar. Hell, I love the t-shirts they sell out front. And the food is great. No restaurant can claim to be Mexican or Tex-Mex if they don't offer Tecate in a can. You can get that here. All of the sauces are outstanding, all of the food is outstanding, and the drinks are outstanding. So, when you are this good, I have to find something wrong. The wrong here is high dusting. Look at that layer of dust on top of the fish and other decorations in the ceiling. Do me a favor, one night, after closing, pass out some feather dusters and knock all of the dust down. Throughly disappointing. Typical Woodbridge. It's sad when the best thing about a restaurant is the free chips & salsa. This was a bad experience from start to finish. Walked in and the restaurant was as cold as an icebox. Fortunately, the weather was mild so we opted to sit on the patio. However, the restaurant sits adjacent to the intersection of the P.W. parkway and Telegraph Road. In addition to having to try and talk over every semi-truck and motorcycle, the house music was some combination of excessively loud 80s retro and EDM. More suited for a Rave than a Tex-Mex restaurant . Having worked in the restaurant industry, as many of us have at least once, it is just a fact of life that some individuals are not cut out for the service industry. Our server was just such a person. However, I can look past the awkward people skills and borderline inappropriate banter but what I find unacceptable from a server is disgusting attire and lack of common sense server skills. While my intent is not to publicly shame our server over their excessive weight, it is not unreasonable to believe that they should not be wearing outrageously tight fitting clothing and subjecting diners to view this morbid display while eating. Our server was kind enough to take our order for additional chips and salsa while we waited for our entrees. But after the sixth time of walking past us with nothing, we decided to ask someone who was running food if they could get us the chips. They returned with the order in less than 30 seconds. The coup de grâce was the fact that our drink order was merely an iced tea and a Sprite. Not ONCE did our server check the status of our drinks. My glass was empty for at least half of my dinner. Where is the management? Who is training these people? The kicker was when our server came to pick up our payment of our $30 check. We had two $20 bills set out. And then it came....."Do you need change?" ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?! Attention Servers everywhere: Do not ask that question! Ever. Period. For the record, this did not take place on a Friday night at the height of the dinner rush. Our server was not 'in the weeds'. This was a Tuesday evening at approximately 9pm. Everything was typical tex mex fare. Standard food with standard prices and standard service. Nothing stood out to me. If you've been to a Don Pablos, On The Border, Pancho Villa, Chevy's, etc etc... you'll probably like it. Atmosphere and decor were pretty cool. It was my first time at a Chuy's before... My only itty bitty complaint was the salt. I dont add much salt to my food, as I am fond of other seasonings and spice that the world has to offer. That said I am probably more sensitive to the taste of it than others, so it may be quite delectable to the palates of salt lovers, but not mine. Perhaps a clever ploy to grab more beverage orders? My husband and I visited Chuys on lee highway and I must say from the door until we left was top notch service. I am a server myself so I set the bar high with my needs. My husband and I complimented our server Chan who was amazing paying attention to the littlest detail and we told his manager Brian who immediately and I mean immediately gave him a compliment and pat on the back as a great manager should I give them both 5stars because they both were amazing and I will definitely be returning and FYI I am not a yelper but I couldn't leave without giving props where it's due thanks you both rock!!!! read more

I really wish I could go to a Chuys in VA and have the service be somewhat decent. Yesterday, we were able to be sat somewhat quickly which was unexpected because of it being a 'holiday' Our waitress was somewhat attentive but when the rest of our party arrived, they didn't get menus after asking politely a few times. It was fine because we shared, but not the point. After the food came our waitress seemed to disappear after she came back to check if everything was good and anything else we needed. We asked the typical more napkins and drink refills, but it didn't happen. I was able to flag someone else down to at least get more napkins. Upon asking for more iced tea, she came around with the pitcher to fill the drinks, but there was no ice in the tea. How do you have iced tea, that's watered down, with no ice. It made no sense. When asked for a new cup with ice and tea, I got 'you want a cup of ice?' No. I wanted a new cup with ice and tea in it at the same time. Not sure what about that was confusing. My husband was so excited when a Chuy's was opened in Woodbridge, and it was really good when they first opened. I'm not sure what has happened to it, but I would highly suggest some retraining of bar staff and servers. Whenever my husband orders a margarita, he ALWAYS asks for no salt. Unfortunately, even when they appear to write it down, his margarita comes out with salt on it. When he tells the server he asked for no salt, they seem to think it is okay to bring the same margarita back in a different glass. Unfortunately by that point, most of the salt just sits in the bottom of the drink, and he ends up sucking up chunks of salt. The servers rarely come back to check on things, so it ends up taking my husband almost 40 minutes to get his first drink. One of the servers likes to claim that he just picked up the wrong drink (he did this both times we sat in his section). First, just admit you put in the oder wrong and get it fixed. Second, even if you just picked up the wrong drink, it's still your fault, and you need to pay attention to detail. The last several times we've gone, it's been the same issue. It makes it really frustrating when you just want to enjoy a drink after work, and you continuously have to send it back because the bartender and/or server refuse to make the almost $15 drink correctly. We also haven't had a manager visit the table the last few times, and they are impossible to find to talk to. We will probably stop going at this point because our trips have become more frustrating than pleasant. (They got 2 stars because the drinks are good when made correctly. My husband, kids and myself all love Chuy's! It's our first restaurant pick almost always. Their food is delicious, the salsa and chips are fresh! Make sure to ask for the white jalapeño dip. They don't always bring it out, but it is free and so, so good. My kids loved the coloring pages and you can request for tortilla dough for the kids to play with. The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable. The waiters are usually fantastic and personable. Their fajitas are my favorite, but all the dishes I've had there have been great. read more

This place is mediocre. Tortillas were raw and inedible. We started out with the chips and dips, the salsa was like blended uncooked tomatoes with onion and a lot of jalapeño, it wasn't good. The other dip was literally ranch, Idk who eats ranch with tortilla chips it wasn't good at all. Because we didn't like the dips we ordered queso and instead of getting the same sized cup of queso like we asked for, our server gave us a huge bowl of it. The queso tasted like watered down Tostitos queso. I got chicken and steak fajitas, the chicken was really good, it had so much flavor and i liked that it was crispy. The steak had the same flavor as the chicken but it didn't work for it, that marinade was good for chicken but not the steak. The guacamole was good, I liked how big the serving of fajita stuff (cheese, pico, sour cream etc.) was. The rice was typical bad mexican place rice and the beans were pretty good. The tortillas were undercooked. I grabbed one to eat with my fajita and it fell apart in my hands because it was undercooked. So I asked the server for more because they were undercooked but the new tortillas were also undercooked. If I could give it no stars I would. First time yelper and I like to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, so this took a lot to post. Host wasn't welcoming. Waiter wasn't tentative. We had to ask about our food twice especially when two tables after us came in and got theirs. Then two more tables got their food. He finally came back and said he never put our order in and asked what we ordered. I'm pregnant, with a hungry toddler and my husband. And it was us and five tables (1 was there before us) so it was not busy and we counted 4 waitresses in our area or at two and two food runners. Why doesn't this place have better reviews??? Maybe I caught it on a VERY good day, but I thought everything was perfect! Ambiance: We were seated in a room themed with vintage cars, but it seemed like every room had a different theme or feel, it was very cool. Everything was clean, and my husband and I enjoyed the music they played. Server: I believe his name was Joseph, it was a few days ago...but he was great. He welcomed us, and explained the menu layout since it was our first time there. He offered food recommendations. He was attentive, and never left us hanging. He was covering multiple tables at the same time, and we saw him juggle everyone well. Food: We ordered the Queso Compuesto for our appetizer. I mainly ordered the appetizer to keep us busy, because this restaurant makes everything fresh, and places like that usually take a longer while to bring out the food. It was entirely unnecessary, because the food came out FAST, but it was delicious nonetheless. My husband ordered the Southwestern Enchiladas, I can't speak for them beyond what he says and my one bite of them, but he loved them and my one bite was good, but not as good as mine ;) I ordered the Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom Enchiladas. Not going to lie, I ordered this because the name was fun (and I loved the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom children's book when I was younger) and the picture looked good. The waiter warned me that the boom boom sauce was spicy, and tried to offer me advice on how other people eat them I'm assuming? I don't know, I didn't listen, because as I let him know, "I'm tough." First I'll say that if you are weak to spicy, listen to his advice, they ain't playin'. BUT, if you love spicy, HIGHLY recommend, standing ovation. Stopped in today to treat the hubs for Father's Day lunch. This has been one of our favorite restaurants for a while now, and it was just great to be able to come in and sit down. The food was good as usual, and the service quick and efficient. So glad to see Chuey's open again after so long! One quick note: the menu is reduced, as are many these days. here's the deal. the outside doesn't do this place justice. and it's kinda hard to get to it. but the food is REALLY good. probably the best tex-mdx chain out there. the salsa has the right amount of heat and the chips are those thin and crispy kind. make sure you ask for the creamy jalapeño sauce. it's quite a treat! nice and creamy with a hint of heat! Hubby got the fajitas and he said they were good. i did like how it came with a LOT of cheese, sour cream and lettuce. usually, there isn't enough but plenty. i got the elvis taco special. the rice was green chili. it gets hotter the more you eat it. same with those beans! Good spices and really good. large portion size for what you get. the drink was a nice frozen margarita! Not too salty or too much like booze. very smooth. the place sells funky T-shirts and they now have a punch card where your 8th meal is FREE!!!! stop by the bar to get your own chips from the trunk of the car. pick which salsa you'd like as well. lastly- enjoy the lady making FRESH tortillas in front of you!! Delicious food and generous portions! This was our first time, but definitely won't be the last. The theme, decor, and general feel of the restaurant was fun and unexpected. The adults in our party ordered combos number one and two. The kids had enchiladas and tacos from the kids menu. Everything came out fast, accurate, and hot! Our server, Alfonso R, was very attentive and spent some extra time with us since it was our first visit.
