A while since I reviewed Cibo Matto and afraid it seems to be in a decline. The restaurant was full when we visited on a Saturday night and still had a 10 minute wait despite reservation. The setup has changed with a weatherproofed porch extending the number of tables greatly. However, it makes the wait staff have to shimmy past waiting customers, the reception desk and negotiate a foyer door. The owners should really do some remodeling for practicality as it is very poor. Case of squeezing more places on the cheap. On to the food.. The bread is always great and a problem to resist over-indulging. We started with New England Mussels, which were a nice size but were not properly cleaned. One mussel had also stayed closed which is really bad and sign of poor quality control in the kitchen. I had meatball pasta for my entree and my wife had the miso encrusted cod. She was disappointed as the chef seems to have forgotten the miso leaving a bland cod and vegetable offering. My meatballs were nice, but the marinara sauce was not to my personal taste as they must use balsamic, which overshadows the sweetness of the tomatoes. No freshly ground pepper or parmesan offered for the pasta either, although maybe we were supposed to conserve what was offered with the bread and olive oil? Service was fine but prices are too high for the quality of the food we received. read more

Loved this place. Went there Sunday and got 2 gift certs for my kids who live in Mansfield. This is their fave restaurant. $150 each. For 2. So $300 I gave the hostess 325 (25 tip) and putting these gift cards tonight for my daughters I realize the receipt only says $100 each not sure where that extra hundred dollars went plus a $25 tip. Called spoke to management. They have no idea. My husband went there. Still no idea. How incompetent can one business be? Ask yourself that. We loved our outside patio table in thé far corner for our party of five. Our server was excellent and was kind enough to split our shared meal without us asking. We had a lovely roasted salmon cooked perfectly. And a spinach salad that was tasty but too heavy on the dressing. The other people in our group enjoyed risotto and gnocchi and chicken with pasta. Looking for a pre-concert dinner with dear friends, I worried this would be to open to traffic etc, based on location. I was wrong. The restaurant has done a great job of buffering the outside world from its outdoor tables. The food was outstanding- we shared pizzas and chicken Marsala after a capprese appetizer. Had dinner with my boyfriend (BF) this evening. I had the salmon which was exceptional being perfectly cooked. The sides were incredible to include an interestingly tasty rice cake. My BF had the halibut with risotto and it looked delicious. Truth be told, I tried the risotto and it was! Nice glasses of wine paired beautifully with our meal. All in all we had a wonderful dining experience this evening and it is definitely worth the trip to Mansfield! read more

Service and Entree's were excellent! Arrived in Boston for a quick trip and found this restaurant located near our hotel. We were seated immediately in a booth across from the kitchen even though the restaurant was busy and bustling. We were served fresh and soft focaccia bread which was delightfully paired with olive oil, various toppings like coarse salt, chili flakes and balsamic. We ordered the Salmon Risotto and it was delicious! Also ordered the chicken parmigiana with Angel hair pasta. Yum! The service staff was attentive and helpful. Best Italian, with a few other things on the menu, in the region. It's not your typical red sauce in everything place - although they make one of the best Chicken Parms going. Cibo Matto's takes on regional pasta dishes, roasted and grilled items and pizza are all on point. As a matter of fact, their fire-baked Neapolitan pizzas are not only huge and delicious, it turns out they're generally less expensive or equivalent to the local pizza joints. Service was fine, seated promptly for a reservation on a Tuesday evening but the food was not good this time. Tried the lobster bisque and it was a tomato based liquidy mess. Not what you'd expect as a bisque. More like tomato soup with two pieces of lobster floating in it. The lobster fettuccine in a sherry cream sauce-again a soupy tomato mess, no hint of cream at all. Being new to Mansfield, we really wanted to like this place. Service is 5/5. But the food is 2.5/5. I am really unhappy about paying $36 for a special that tasted like a bucket of salt. I thought it could have been a mistake but my wife had the same problem. With our babysitter taking care of our 2 kids for our monthly date night, we didn't have time to request them to remake those dishes. It doesn't seem like the chef tastes what he puts on the line. I don't know how this place got such high reviews, but my experience was terrible. We order chicken wings, a beet salad, and a veal piccata. Chicken wings were not fresh. We each tried one and left it on a plate. The beets in the salad were overcooked. The veal piccata was super salty. Made a reservation here for Monday night on a whim since we haven't had Italian food in quite some time, and it was recommended to us a while ago. SO GLAD WE DID! We were seated on the heated patio, right below a heater- very comfortable temperature-wise for the whole meal even though it was quite chilly out. Everything was amazing from the very beginning! Even the bread they brought us to start with our waters was delicious. Cocktails were perfect. We ordered arancini as an app, and had no idea they would have oysters as a special-- added bonus! I ordered the Autumn risotto, which was phenomenal, and my boyfriend ordered the short rib- "the best he's had in forever." We finished the meal with cannoli- they were PERFECT! Our waiter (I wish I got his name!) was very friendly and attentive, as were all of the staff. Overall a wonderful dinner! Long story short... The food was very good also ... however , we received our bill , and my husband and my entrees were both charged $3 more each , I even double checked the price when we got into our car , and sure enough they were both overcharged by $ 3 each , we left a tip according to our bill . I have been to Cibo Matto twice. The first time I went was in September. I had the most delicious chicken Marsala! I actually craved it until I could get back there to get it again. The second time was not as flavorful as the first time I got it. I also first went on a Friday night and the second time I went was a Sunday evening. The service is great and it was very clean. Also, we were asked if we needed anything from the waitress and the manager was checking on tables too which is rare these days! I will definitely go back again. I love Cibo Matto. It's a treat whenever I go. I love so many things on the menu, including the spinach salad. I came with a friend who loves it too. Our waitress Nancy was fantastic. The bread, olive oil and spices are a nice prelude. We shared the calamari, surprisingly spicy. My friend had the chicken Parmesan over linguini and I had the chicken Picatta. I ended up taking half home. I had a pineapple stoli martini. Not on the menu, but I've seen a bartender make it on a previous occasion by cutting up a fresh pineapple and adding bottles of stoli. So potent and so yummy. The outdoor area is convenient on a nice day. This place is always busy and parking can be tricky. It's worth it, I promise. read more

I've heard so much about this place and have been dying to try it for awhile now so when I picked this restaurant to have our after wedding lunch I had high expectations. This pizza was really delicious. The crust was perfectly cooked, and the highlight was the butternut squash for me! There was mozzarella, fontina, caramelized onions, and balsamic glaze too. Everything paired together perfectly. The service was brief as we did takeout but the staff inside was super friendly. The ambience was really nice with dimmed lighting and an open kitchen.
