I had the breakfast buffet and also went there for dinner. The breakfast buffet had plenty to choose from and offered an omelette station... everything was very good. Inasmuch as dinner is concerned, I had the "smoked meats sampler," which included baby back ribs, beef brisket & pork sausage and I asked for it with a side of mac 'n cheese. The ribs were good, but the brisket & sausage were both very dry and the mac was "just ok." Also shared some appetizers; smoked brisket "burnt" ends, tequila shrimp, and bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers... the apps were all very good. This restaurant is located in the Marriott Hill Country Resort... kind of out in the boonies and not exactly the hopping Riverwalk area where you have lots of competition, but all things considered, not a bad choice... 3 stars. read more

We ate here over the weekend and our entire table ordered the buffet. The food was tasty. However, some things about the buffet were a real turn off. First, the salad bar and main dish items were not refreshed enough. Some salad items were at very low levels. No one was wiping up spills and the cold salad items were more like room temperature. We have been to this restaurant at least 5 times in the past year. Each time it was very good food, service and ambiance. The last time however, we did have some issues, which I previously reported. That being said, we took our famly here to try it again this last Saturday evening. Without question, the experience was Perfection ! The service was impeccable and the food was outstanding. We had the pleasure of meeting the Resaurants Director and it became even more clear why we had such an amazing experience. Very professsional ! We are so very glad we tried it again to confirm what we had experience with most of our previous visits. My boyfriend and I stayed at the JW Marriott for a long weekend, and got to enjoy the Texas buffet at dinner, as well as the breakfast buffet and WOW WOW WOW it was AMAZING. Buffets are hit or miss when it comes to fresh food and good flavor, but this was hands down our FAVORITE part of the resort! Not cheap, but it is worth every penny and then some. Surprisingly good for a hotel. Overpriced ad they know they have a captive audience. The convenience makes it worth it. The portions were nice and everything we tried tasted good. My family and I had a beautiful dinner last night inside the JW hotel and resort at Cibolo Moon. We all got the buffet. It was 26.95 per adult and 8.00 for my son. Carving station was serving bbq'd ribs which were delicious! Other proteins available were: fried catfish which my brother loved and beer can chicken which was also yummy. They have a salad station set up- all veggies are crisp and fresh accompanied by some amazing in house dressings that complimented the salad perfectly! They had these amazing deviled eggs too set up by the salad station. Sides included: grits, corn, and beans with some seasonal vegetables. The kids buffet was pretty tasty as well. It included: chicken tenders, mini corn dogs. Mac n cheese which was really good, corn, and French fries. There were assorted dessert with peanut butter cookies and chocolate chip cookies that were TDF! Last but not least was the homemade corn bread muffins and the biscuits with coarse sugar and homemade preserves. Our dinner was fantastic and I thought the price point was decent given you are dining at a resort and it was a buffet. Have been before and will definitely come again! read more

We visited Cibolo Moon on Christmas evening. No reservation but got seated in five minutes. Just the two of us. Buffet only at $49 per person plus mandatory 18% gratuity regardless of party size. The buffet had a good selection of hot and cold offerings - buffalo meat loaf, blackened red fish, braised short ribs, carving stations with prime rib, turkey and pork. Huge shrimp, salads, cheeses, breads (all rather dry) and a good selection of desserts along with a kids buffet. Potatoes and stuffing were interesting too. The server told us when we sat down that they basically put their entire menu on the buffet. Not quite. We have visited on non-buffet evenings and their menu is way more extensive. Why 3 stars? For $125 for the two of us, I expect a bit more upscale experience. CM is noisy and the buffet layout is a little goofy - pockets of stuff here and there. Gravy at one carving station but not near the mashed potatoes. Lots of foot traffic including right past the buffet stations. I always feel I am about to get trampled in there. Server was sometimes omnipresent and sometimes we couldn't find him. The food tasted good but some things had no placards like the salad dressings. "I think it's bleu cheese but I'm not sure. No idea what the brown one is." Most if the desserts were unlabeled too. Overall the atmosphere is like "hey let's put on a buffet" rather than something they do every week. I think they could benefit from somebody who really knows what they're doing just watching the buffet operate for an evening and they could figure out better traffic patterns, food layouts, offerings, presentation and so forth. I don't like the automatic gratuity as a matter of principle at least on small groups. We tip 20% typically and are more generous on holidays but this was a little presumptuous so we just left it at the 18% they auto-loaded. CM is okay and we will probably go back but for a Marriott resort property the value proposition is just not quite there. Close but not a bulls-eye. read more

My husband and I enjoyed magnificent meals here while we stayed at the resort. The staff is eager to help, and they strive to treat you to the perfect experience. On our first visit, there was an issue with timing and our appetizer did not come out until the meal. Our waiter and the manager both promptly apologized and they quickly rectified the situation by ensuring us that the burnt ends would be taken off the bill. This gesture was enough to relax us and allow us to enjoy the amazing entrees. My filet was perfectly cooked to my specifications, and the chicken and waffles was perfectly executed with just the right crispness and balance of spicy and sweet. After an amazing meal, our waiter presented us with chocolate covered strawberries to make up for the delay with the appetizer; this was completely unnecessary, but is a great indication of the willingness to serve. After that we were hooked and didn't even try another restaurant for the rest of our trip. We loved the atmosphere and friendliness almost as much as the food itself. The biscuits with jelly is a nice touch and adds to the overall delicious menu items. read more

We stayed at the resort for long weekend. We had the breakfast for two package which was at the Cibolo Moon. The first morning was good. Breakfast was buffet and they opened at 630 which helped because husband had early tee time. Every kind of pastry you could imagine. They would make eggs any way for you or omelet. We just had the eggs on the buffet. Very nice atmosphere. Waiter was attentive and was nice. My only negative things were that the buffet eggs and bacon and sausage on the second morning were cold and we were there when it opened. The hostess didn't say anything when she opened the door for us. No good morning, no smile, nothing. Both days she just didn't engage. My husband chalks it up to the employees being young - teens or twenties. All the other employees throughout the resort were very nice though. read more

This was our fourth visit to Cibolo Moon, and it was not a disappointment! Just like all our previous visits, the food was delicious. In addition, our service was amazing. Daniel was not only on top of all our requests, he was extremely personable and friendly as well. We enjoyed each of our entrees from the BBQ to the shrimp and grits to the chicken fried steak. My review is strictly News Year Eve buffet. Way way over priced!! Food was below average and the desserts were probably 90% store bought. Very sad for 85.00 a person and then 15.00 for every alcoholic beverage ordered and 5.00 for a Pepsi. I have had less expensive meals at fine dining steak houses and much better food. Would not recommend eating here for New Year's Eve. We did eat in other areas of the property and food was great. By far worst meal for the money that I have ever had! read more

I'm usually unimpressed with hotel restaurants - they're either super pricey or the food is mediocre or both. Cibolo Moon was a surprisingly nice experience. We started with tequila shots (it is a tequila bar after all) and then I had a Mexican Martini. Basically a martini made with tequila and not nearly as cloying as a margarita. It was so yummy! Before we ordered, they brought us a plate of tiny, buttery biscuits with strawberry jalapeno jam. They were so good! I had the bison burger with redneck mac and cheese and it was comfort food at its best. Portions are generous, so I was able to have leftovers for lunch the next day. read more

I have been here with my family multiple times over the span of a couple of years and we have always had the brunch buffet-- which is pretty good and consistent, yet $23 per person made the meal less pleasing. This year, we decided to dine in for dinner (and were met with the same fee of $23 per person). The dinner however, was at the opposite end of the spectrum compared to the brunch buffet. Poor service, sub-par food, and limited options to fill your plate, we left really unsatisfied. About half of the food that they served consisted of a salad bar, the brisket was a bit dry, and the rest of the food that was served was mainly of sides (i.e. Macaroni and Cheese, Sausage, Green Beans, and mashed potatoes). There were hot dogs too, mainly for kids. Definitely not worth $23. A $10 meal at most. The value was just not there. They didn't fill our water cups either, until we asked. This was by far one of the worst dinner buffets that i have eaten at, contrary to the above-average brunch buffet. We do not plan on coming here again, unless it's for brunch. read more

I must say I am only rating this a 2 because of the service. The food was good. My first time here visiting with my family from Texas. We had 6 adults and 3 children but the table was somewhat set up for 14 people. Place settings were unorganized. The table linen was dirty from the previous meal. When they brought coffee they just piled a bunch of cups in the center of the table even after taking the order. When you come to a JW you expect an experience to remember and brag about. We will be here the rest of the weekend so I am hoping things pickup more positive as I know the management staff at the JW would want to know. read more

Dinner tasted amazing, we had the bacon wrapped scallops for an appetizer as well as the sugar crystal biscuits with a jalapeño mint jam that they make onsite. Both were amazing. For main course, I had the pork carnitas and my wife had the pecan salad The only thing I would have changed is that we asked to sit outside. The view at the JW Marriot is amazing, and the temperature was perfect but the number of flies was distracting. I'm not talking one or two, more like 15 or so. We were staying here and on our first night we were a bit jet lagged and decided to try the place. We were both pleasantly surprised and mentioned that it was better than many hotel restaurants. Though JWs are usually better than most. The baby back ribs are enough to feed two (full slab) and are true Texas style. Great flavor though they might have been a touch on the chewy side. A side a beans better than most. Not sweet like most "baked beans" and not dry and bland like most retired beans. Great smoky flavor. My wife had the enchilada stack. Tasty and filling. The remnants are in our room fridge waiting for the midnight munchies to strike. Oh, and although it's not on the menu, ask for the guacamole. Made fresh. Also enough to feed several. Was also impressed by the fact that the menu uses many local and organic products in it's menus. And almost forgot about the "sugar biscuits" which have chipotle raspberry jam. A nice opener, and the leftovers made a nice, notbtoo sweet desert. read more
