Pappasito's is my favorite spot for fajitas, hands down, so when I found myself looking for a place to meet a friend while visiting SA, and Pappasito's was right up the road from my hotel, it was a no-brainer. All of the food we had was good, but when I want fajitas, Pappasito's is my go-to. Anyway, both meals were delish. Good salsa, good queso, great fajitas, cold beer...what's not to love? We ordered the fajitas because I had heard so many people talk about how good they are, so I was expecting something really special. They weren't bad, but I wouldn't consider them the best fajitas I've had. We ordered half a pound, and I was a little surprised that cheese and sour cream were not included and had to be ordered separately for an additional charge. On the positive side, our waiter was excellent. He was very attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed. The restaurant has plenty of seating and was clean and comfortable. I hate going out for Mother's Day, but my mom loves it, so our party of 13 headed to Pappasito's Cantina. Considering the holiday crowds and the fact that we had a reservation, our wait time was reasonable. Things were extremely busy, and the wait staff were clearly working double time. We were served chips and eventually salsa, then placed our drink and food orders. We also ordered beef fajitas to go for a family member who couldn't attend. Our table ordered a family platter, enchiladas, beef fajitas, and the Shrimp Brochette. The fajitas were tender, the ribs were well seasoned, and the Shrimp Brochette had just the right amount of spice and heat. Other family members ordered another family platter, shrimp tacos, and lamb chops. Our server, Jorje, did an amazing job considering how hectic the day was. He kept drinks topped off, cleared plates quickly so we had room at the table, and made sure our family of retired and disabled veterans, along with military dependents, received the military discount. The mariachi players going table to table were a nice touch. We got a lively version of "My Girl," which everyone enjoyed. We also received lovely Mother's Day gift bags that ended up being perfect for transporting leftovers. Then we hit a snag. Our to-go order never came out. We waited, asked about it multiple times, and were repeatedly assured it was coming. Eventually, we were told to-go orders would take much longer. By this point, it was around 4 p.m. and we had been there since about 2 p.m. When I asked for an ETA, we were told they couldn't provide one. After waiting even longer, we finally requested a refund for the meal we paid for but never received. That process also took quite a while before we finally received a corrected receipt showing the refund. Everyone was apologetic, and the manager did try to make it right by offering a gift card, but it was still disappointing that one family member's Mother's Day meal never appeared. Overall, we still had a nice day, but this experience reinforced exactly why I dislike dining out during major holidays and peak events. It was a Sunday, the hostess informed us the rush just passed and its slowing down. We requested a table for 2. They wanted to put us at the bar, we requested a table not at the bar. We were told it's not possible, for thete are no tables available, yet, we saw several empty tables along with some tables with dishes ready to be picked up. We asked for a manager and instead the seating hostess looked in the laptop and said thats all we have. We pointed out several tables, but were told outloud, no ,that's all we have. So. I made a reservation online for 7:30pm on Fajita Wednesday night. When we arrived, there were people waiting for a table. The hostess informed us that we are checked in but would have to wait a little for our table. We waited roughly 10 minutes before receiving a text that our table was ready. The hostess walked us over to the table and informed us that our server will be with us. We were not given menus and sat there for what felt like an eternity without menus. A server did approach us and said he'll be right with us. 5 minutes probably passed from the moment we were seated until we received menus. We ordered the Wednesday Fajita Night Special which comes with 1lb of Beef and Chicken fajitas, rice, beans, guac, queso, pico, and fresh flour tortillas. The fajitas taste amazing. They have a great flavor. The flour tortillas are also very very tasty as they are made fresh and served hot. We had about 3 servings... don't regret it one bit! I also ordered the Spirit-Free Tropical Refresher, the flavor was great, but for it being $8.95, I expected nice presentation with fruit or something. What my least favorite part of the restaurant is how closely the tables are arranged to each other and how loud it can be (with music and other guests speaking) Another thing that I dislike is the strong smell of the tortilla chips. That is the first thing you smell when you walk in. I wasn't a fan of the chips, but to each their own. You might enjoy the smell of chips. My boyfriend served in the military and was given a generous discount of 25%!! For the value of the Fajita Wednesday, it's already a great deal for all that you get for $49.95. On top of the military discount, it's an even better deal. Our server was nice but it was hard to hear him due to the loudness of the restaurant. He seemed very busy and didn't check in as often or offer refills on a timely manner. I'd come back and probably opt to sit at the bar where there looks to be more space to sit and not feel crowded. Pappasito's never disappoints, which is why there is usually a wait time to be seated if you come in a small group. Nonetheless, it is well worth the wait. I have been eating at Pappasito's for years due to the excellent food and service. Went with my family (party of 7) for Sunday night dinner last weekend. Once we were seated, they brought out fresh chips and salsa. We also got a few queso dips while we waited to order. I decided to order the potato taquitos (appetizer) and tortilla soup (one of the few places I can get it without the chicken) as my meal. I've had the tortilla soup before and it is always tasty and packed full of fresh vegetables. It was my first time trying the potato taquitos, but they are now one of my favorite dishes. My family enjoyed the cheese enchiladas, taco plate, and chicken and beef fajitas. We were all stuffed but saved some room to share desserts. The tres leches was so delicious with a meringue topping and fresh sliced strawberries. This is one of my favorite Tex-Mex restaurants in town and I've never had a bad experience here. read more

When I was picking up my rental car, I was telling the desk agent I was going to head somewhere for lunch after I got the car and if they had any recommendations. The agent enthusiastically said Pappasito's, so I decided to head there. I was told to get a watermelon margarita, but those were out of season. Cue my crying at the table. I landed on a hurricane margarita instead, which was very good. When asking for a recommendation on good, I was told the restaurant is known for its beef fajitas. Sold. I also wanted to try the queso for the chips. Overall, the fajitas were good. Only disappointment was they didn't come out with that signature sizzle. Review has been edited/updated: Personally I would have given the place a 3 out of 5, because some of food lacked flavor. The salsa tasted like tomato sauce. The pico de gallo had no jalapeños. The meat and chicken were good and my kids loved the rice (they're picky eaters). The charro beans are just beans by themselves; no veggies, bacon, chicharrón, etc. But the alcohol drinks were good so I would return for a happy hour. I got the Zombie and my hubby got the Reserve. The main reason I gave them a 4 out of 5 was because of our server; 10 out of 10 customer service from Ms. Makayla!!! She was super nice, went through the menu, made recommendations since she knew it was our first time. Would return for the drinks, protein and customer service. Was able to make a reservation for my party of 5 on Saturday evening and am so happy I did. The restaurant was very busy but luckily we didn't wait too long to be seated. We were waiting at our table for a while for our server and received a visit from the manager who apologized for the wait and offered us a complementary appetizer. We got the queso fundido with beef and it was sooooo cheesy (in a good way of course). Came with a warm order of tortillas. Highly recommend if you're with a large party, otherwise it can be too much food. For entrees we got the family sized fajitas. Food took a little long to come out but with chips and our queso, we were entertained. Once delivered, the fajitas were really good and tasty. Very tender. The rice and beans were also good. Everything was solid. For dessert, we got the sopapillas but they were not as good. The oil used to cook them maybe needed to be changed because they had a really weird after taste that wasn't very good. Overall, we spent a considerable time waiting for food, but appreciate the acknowledgement from management trying to make it right. When I lived in San Antonio and worked at USAA, I went to Pappasitos all the time, and the food and service was always good. This time was no different. I have now moved away but came back home to visit friends and family for the holidays and I had a party of 6 and we did not all get there at the same time. But we didn't have any problem getting seated and our waitress Karina took care of us when there were only three of us there and as the rest of my party continued to come in, she continued to check on us and make sure that our food and drinks was bought out to us in a timely manner. Karina started us out with chips and salsa, which were warm, thin and crispy, and we all got our own little personal salsa. When our whole party got there, I ordered tequila on the rocks dressed and the snapper tacos. Can I tell you how good these tacos were? It had a nice piece of fish and it was fried, but the batter was not heavy. And the toppings on the taco also tasted fresh. I will say prices have gone up a little bit. So expect to spend at least $20 - $30 per plate, but it was well worth it. I will definitely be back again when I stop back through. read more

Christmas time is always hectic when trying to get something to eat after shopping. Pappasito's at this location is perfect because of its proximity to La Cantera and Huebner Oaks. My wife and I dine here at least 3 times a year. The food is always excellent and their service top notch. The minor negatives are the noise level and the food prices. When you get out of the restaurant and your wallet is $100 lighter, that's expensive. No matter, their free chips and salsa is still one of the best anywhere there are Mexican restaurants. When we were there, I looked at their menu and it was heavy with shrimp dishes and pretty shy on fish dishes. Of course, their fajitas are world-famous and their standby Mexican dishes like enchiladas and tacos. My wife enjoyed her chicken taco. I had the salmon and just those two dishes, $100 including the tip. Overall, I love this restaurant and what they offer so we will come back because its worth it. We were very disappointed with the amount of food we received for the lunch portion of fajitas. Granted we know lunch is smaller portions but we paid almost $40 for 4 very thin strips of fajita and 3 shrimp. Almost $40! It was also my husband's birthday and when we arrived I told our waitress. While we were there we heard the staff sing 3 times to other customers having birthdays. At the end of the meal she did bring a plate of soppapias with a candle. I asked for a lighter to light the candle...she said they didn't have one and walked away. Then they usually bring a sombrero when they sing....which they never did. I asked for the sombrero and she brought it to our table and walked away. No song either! We loved Pappasitos but I think our time there is over. I would highly recommend THIS Pappasito's! I have been to many all over the state and have left my glowing reviews of my experience at this particular one on other sites. I attribute the food, service and experience to not only the team you see (waiter/s, host/es, etc), but to the team you don't always see - the cooks, the managers, the kitchen team. I will say that by and large this location's leadership shines through to the their team. In my course of dinning here, one manager (I'm probably not going to spell this correctly, Denae), has gotten to know my friends and I (we do eat here once every week or every other week), and she ALWAYS makes the effort to say hello and make that table side connection and when things do not come out 100%, she makes it right (that has happened really one time, but it made a lasting impression on me.). Food service is not easy and not every person is going to like their version of Tex Mex and some folks may have an off day, but 8 out of 10 times, the food is perfection. I sat at the bar with my husband, I asked the bartender did they have a small drink and showed her with my hands how large I was referring too..she goes oh definitely rings me up. I don't drink much I'm a light weight so I wanted to ensure I could drive. She brings out what she says is their smallest drink. I took a sip and advised it was way too large and I wouldn't be able to finish it and be able to drive safely. She states to go ahead and finish and for me to call myself a Uber ...also failing to even ID me I have to add in. Her name was Sara by the way. So going forward each drink I see her make she is behind the counter sipping each drink out of the metal container very responsible ..fast forward I took 3 sips and advised I wanted to return the drink. She refused and said she couldn't take it back. She stated once I put my straw in the cup that the rules stated it was nonrefundable. I asked for a manger ...she yells across the room to the other side of a restaurant that we want to speak with a manager with an attitude. (We were the only African American people at the time) it was very embarrassing and at that point everyone stared at us. We spoke to the manger and advised she was drinking on the job , and as well as the drink was "non refundable" according to Sara and he states it was a lie and refunds me. Now if Sara is still working there after drinking on the job then hey but moral of my story is I would never come back due to this experience read more
