I loved this place even before I came. What I also loved was that the staff was speaking Italian amongst each other - when a restaurant is Italian-owned it just radiates authenticity right away. I went for dinner on a Wednesday night - the restaurants was completely full, bar included. I had a reservation for 830PM which I moved to an earlier time and was easily accommodated by the host. We were seated right away and two different staff approached us to take our drink orders and share their recommendations. Our waiter, Matt was fantastic and helped me decide on my main course pasta. They brought us hot foccaccia to start, which nearly disappeared the minute we got it. Soft, warm and filled with flavour. For my main course, I ordered the Pappardelle Verdi con salsiccia. This was one of the best plates of pasta I've ever had. It had Gorgonzola, sausage and red cabbage in a cream-based sauce - all of these strong flavours and it wasn't nearly as heavy as I had anticipated. In my opinion, that's how you know the ingredients are fresh. Paired with a glass of red, it was the perfect dinner for a short trip to NY. Ciccio (apparently pronounced "CHEECH-ee-oh", correct me if I'm wrong) is a lovely little spot that is cozy and inviting. The staff is friendly and there decor is warm and unique. I love how the wine racks add separation to the space, making your experience seem even more intimate. We just came here for drinks, but the food on other tables looked great and the prices are better than most Italian spots in the area. I ordered the Ciccio spritz, their take on the classic Italian drink. It was very refreshing and I loved the pomegranate add-in. It is my understanding that this may change from time to time so I will be sure to return. The Lila drink featured (at the time) elderberry and cucumber, among other notes. I was blown away by how dynamic and tasty the drink was, bravo to all involved! We will be sure to come back, try out the food, and perhaps see some different takes on their fun cocktail list. But being mostly on keto diet, the signage "homemade pasta" is not typically appeal to me. Magically, I decided to drop by one of these miserable winter night after yet another biz trip, tired and hungry. The moment I stepped in, I fell in love with the cozy, romantic yet casual vibe. It is a neighborhood eatery, "alimentari". Aptly so. Promptly offered wine and water. I was ready for food. Although my first pick was the pulpo, yet when my Italian waiter recommended the pappardelle verdi aka wide ribbon greenpea pasta with homemade Italian sausage in gorgonzola cheese sauce and red cabbage. The rational side of me thinking, trust the expert. And I am glad I did! it is creamy and hearty with subtle nutty sweetness (from the peas and cabbage). We had a cheese and meat plate as antipasti and I have to say that I found that a bit underwhelming. For dessert, their ricotta cheesecake is lovely. Was impatient when taking our order. Took forever to get everything. Never brought us the wine, the owner had to step in. Placed the plates in a very bad way in front of us. Our first time at Ciccio and we loved it! We enjoyed the charming outdoor table. Our waiter was excellent and he helped me pare down my wine (Coppo Gavi) and entree selection (green pappardelle with cabbage and sausage) and the house special Chianti pasta for my husband. To start with was the wonderful focaccia bread with oil/b. vinegar (thanks so much as most restaurants lack in the bread starter dept.) My husband enjoyed the pulpo appetizer (very nice warm pureed chick pea sauce & nicely grilled pulpo). and the house special Chianti pasta. I absolutely love this place - authentic food, mostly house-made pasta dishes, served by gracious staff in a space that feels like you are in an ancient restaurant in Rome. If you have never had true cacio e pepe, the classic pasta dish of Rome, this is the place to go for it. Have been here twice now and loved it. The seafood risotto is a main dish, but they will make a (very generous) appetizer sized portion as well. Utterly delicious. The involtini di pollo (stuffed chicken breast) was mouthwatering the first time I had it. The second time I felt as if maybe something was missing. Maybe a bit of salt or some spice or something. Don't get me wrong, it was still very good, but it wasn't as compelling as the first time. (In contrast the risotto was irresistable both times.) When I go back -- which will definitely occur -- I'll be having the risotto as a main dish. We ate outside both times. I went in to use the restroom during one visit. It was possibly the smallest bathroom I've ever encountered. (No way a wheelchair user could make it inside.) The inside of the restaurant also seemed cramped. But outdoor dining was great. Delicious, quaint, authentic Italian restaurant! I'm so glad I found this spot - they had resvs on open table on a thurs night so i grabbed it up without really knowing much about it. The appetizers were fresh - the burrata was so creamy and the prosciutto was delicious. Our wine glasses were full and the wait staff was extremely friendly. For my entree I got the lasagna and it was good for vegetarian :-) I normally like meat in my pasta but had to try it. The other people in my party got the fish and seemed to love it. For dessert we had to get the tiramisu and it was to DIE FOR. The place gets super loud because it's small and bustling with conversation but it's a nice vibe! read more

Unfortunately, the food just wasn't up to par. Good attempts at homemade pasta dishes, but they were overall lacking. We got their classic pasta dish which they are known for and it definitely left something to be desired. Red wine sauce just wasn't so good. The tagliatelle and meatballs were also disappointing. Hard to mess this up, but they managed. The redsauce was totally flat. The meatballs were actually some of the worst I've ever had. Not tasty at all -- we didn't even eat them after trying. I can't rave enough about this place! Amazing authentic Italian food with homemade fresh pasta. Doesn't get any better than that! My friends and I got several dishes to share which I highly recommend because they're all very good. The octopus appetizer was cooked perfectly and it was very tender. The pasta in the tagliatelle and strisce dishes was made in house and the flavors were bold and spot on. The risotto and gnocchi were delicious but compared to the other dishes, I would prefer the two pasta dishes since they stood out so much. The food here is good and they have a great outdoor dining set up (with a semi-enclosed tent and heat lamps!), but the service is sooooo slow. For brunch, I highly recommend the tagliatelle cacio e pepe. The pasta is house made and the poached egg, once the yolk breaks, make the sauce so creamy - almost like a carbonara. They also have complimentary bread service and for something that's free, the bread is pretty top notch. The focaccia especially is just as good (if not better) than the fancy focaccia that you'd have to pay for at other Italian restaurants. It's too bad there were some service issues. My guess is they're operating with a lean staff so everything takes longer. I hope to come again in a post-quarantine world. read more

KenScale: 8.0/10 Italian cuisine has for a long time dominated the New York dining scene, and you can see in all permutations of regional influences, authentic/traditional vs. modern, etc. across different places in the city. I've been attracted to high-end, more modern places like Del Posto and Marea as well as low-key places serving version of Italian food that is more faithful to the country's culinary tradition. It's with the latter places where I tend to find a lot of pleasure from (although I still love all the great Italian fine-dining establishments), especially where a restaurant is relatively unknown in the dining circle and set up more like a neighborhood place than a destination for diners all across the country and beyond. Ciccio has long been on my list to have that gem potential, but has long evaded my reach until I finally decided to show up with two other dining companions. Overall, it is a nice neighborhood restaurant where I found most of the dishes to like. The food at Ciccio is straightforward Tuscan food. I have yet to visit Italy (hope that happens soon!), but you can tell that this restaurant isn't putting any magic touch but simply trying to adhere to the elegant simplicity of the region's culinary tradition, with focus on ingredients and execution instead of some fancy plating. Burrata with roasted tomatoes and arugula pesto was a pleasant appetizer, with silky smooth texture of the cheese that would whet your appetite. I was also very impressed with gluten-free chickpea crepe roll stuffed with eggplant, mozzarella and cherry tomato. It sort of looks like a healthy version of Mexican tortilla dishes, and tasted delicious, with all the fresh ingredients working harmoniously with one another. The pasta dishes were also quite solid. Risotto with Portobello mushroom, artichokes and fontina cheese had the rustic touch that would do well anywhere at other Italian restaurants even though the flavor itself wasn't overly salty or heavy. Gluten-free house-made gnocchi with brussels sprouts and parmigian cream was also surprisingly moderate in flavor to my liking, and the texture of the gnocchi was spot on. The only letdown during the meal was the porchetta dish of roasted pork served with roasted red beets, sautéed kale and white wine sauce. We were debating whether we should get a third pasta or an entrée, and I insisted on getting the pork just because I wanted to see how the kitchen puts together this classic Italian dish. Well, the flavor of the dish overall was nicely balanced but the texture of pork was tougher than I had expected. For dessert, a classic tiramisu was absolutely moist and delightful and it was gone among three of us in minutes. Getting a reservation at Ciccio doesn't seem too difficult and it was half full on a weekday night. The restaurant has a full bar with a lot of affordable Italian wine selections, so either get a bottle or try a few glasses to complement your meal. You can tell that this is a place that really strives to make you feel you're at a quiet restaurant somewhere in Florence; all of the servers and staffs seemed to be Italian, and I really liked the cozy and welcoming atmosphere of the dining space that is perfect for a date night. I'm so glad I found this place for a variety of reasons: 1) quality, creative food 2) great service 3) availability on a Saturday night (made reservation day before) 4) good prices! I came here with my mom and we had been snacking throughout the day so we told our server we'd be sharing everything for dinner. We started with the chilled pea soup and they separated it out into two bowls which was much appreciated--they did this for our entree too! The soup was fantastic. A nice hint of mint, cream and fresh peas--I honestly couldn't get enough. Next time I will NOT be splitting this. I also really want to try the meatball appetizer because the meatballs on the pasta were melt in your mouth amazing--more on that in a little. My mom and I also shared the cheese and meat plate which was quite a lot of food! It wasn't the most exciting of meat and cheese varieties, so I'll probably get something else next time. For the entree, I had the tagliatelle with meatballs and it was amazing! The pasta is handmade which makes me really happy--nothing better than Italian restaurants making their own pasta! The sauce wasn't too heavy and the tomatoes were really fresh (I liked the touch of fresh basil also). The meatballs were the real star though (which is saying something because I dream of the type of al dente homemade tagliatelle Ciccio serves). They weren't heavy or dry at all--pretty much a pillowy cloud of savory meatball goodness. When dessert rolled around we opted for the panna cotta. It was a little thick for my taste, but the flavor was nice and I liked the red wine reduction. Next time I might go for the tiramisu, it looked tasty! In other cities, Ciccio would be superb. Certainly, this is a charming, tiny restaurant, perfect for date night. Downstairs, with a cute bar, Ciccio is the epitome of romantic. Service is young, hip, but perfunctory. There is a definite lack of warmth, but it is proficient. The kitchen is creative, takes chances, and thus there were highs and lows. My meatball appetizer was great, with a luscious, hearty flavor. In comparison, the house pasta, surprisingly, was indistinct with a bland sauce, although the pasta was cooked perfectly. The tuna entree was very good. If I lived in the neighborhood, I may frequent Ciccio often. However, I wouldn't go out of my way to dine here. read more

Mmmm what an awesome little place! A close friend of mine just moved in right around the corner so we decided to check it out for dinner. The space is cute, clean, simple and special. It just feels special. The white brick walls and simple hanging lights make you feel so welcome. The food is delicious, from the octopus to the meatballs to the seafood and fresh homemade pasta. We ordered a side of green beans that were so good they didn't even taste like what we thought of green beans. They were perfectly browned with salt and garlic and shaved Parmesan. And the drinks are really unique and really tasty. Mine had vodka celery olive oil and black pepper among other flavors... And maybe that sounds weird but it's actually phenomenal! The most unique delicious cocktail I've had. It reminded me of when I watched a documentary on El Bulli and Ferran Adria was trying to create a drink with drops of olive oil in it. A surprisingly brilliant innovation! It was about $50 pp but so nice to find a true gem of a quality restaurant in the city that isn't crazy crowded.This place is worth a visit! 4.5 stars but rounding up because it clearly beats out other 4 star places nearby. read more

Don't try making a reservation using Ciccio's website via an iPad! On Friday, Nov. 2, I booked a table there for Saturday for three, including a visitor from out of town, and the site's Open Table link reservation form indicated we had a booking. When I checked my Open Table account separately on Saturday afternoon, my reservation did not appear. I called Ciccio to inquire about the booking, and was told they did not have one for me and that the place was fully booked until after 9 p.m. They did not offer any apology. Fortunately, we were able to find a good place to eat on short notice. If I ever decide to try Ciccio again, I'll use Open Table itself rather than the restaurant's website. But I'm not inclined to do it anytime soon. read more

This place is run by a very nice and warm people who know about good food and good design. I had the cod crochets and the meat balls washing down with glasses of Sardegnian wine. The meat balls( a secret recipe the owner chef inherited from his grandma) are juicy and tender. Cod crochets are great too. Very fresh and and tasty! Everything is reasonably priced too. Decor is simple and raw yet stylish with lots of great attention to details. Being there makes me feel safe like being in a cave. It is located on slightly lower than the ground level so it feels hidden but it has big windows overlooking the quiet street so it has open and inviting atmosphere at the same time. I have been going to this place for lunch and dinner since last winter. I always leave this place with 101% satisfaction on food and service (4stars) I always like their soup during the cold months and their meatballs are so good pairing with their homemade fecuccin. The Insalata Caterina is simple and delicious. My favorite sandwich is Sardine...mmmhhhmmmm yum!!! When I am in the mood for pasta Taglatelle Al Pomodoro is perfect. Their daily special is as good as the food on the menu. I had a Lasagna Florentine with zucchini for lunch the other day. I was thrilled. It is so light for Lasagna and it's perfect for me after 6 weeks of detoxing. I had their Tiramisu in the beginning of my Ciccio experience there. I told the owner how much I love it. Spent the week vacationing in New York where we spent the entire week trying to eat all of the Italian food that we could. Our area is not known for great Italian food so we were taking full advantage. Ciccio was hands down the best food we had that week. My daughter had the Tagliatelle Con Polpettine and I had the Porchetta. I highly recommend the porchetta, my mouth is watering just remembering perfectly cooked juicy pork. It sat on a bed of eggplant and topped with kale. In addition to the fresh and tasty food, their service was absolutely phenomenal. Waiters were kind and attentive without being overbearing. Ciccio is definitely underrated as far as Italian places go. I picked it for a date night off the Bib Gourmand list and was very pleased with my choice. It's tucked away in almost a basement-like space that may contribute to its under-the-radar status, but it's really very cozy and romantic with dim lighting and low hum of conversations. We started with a meat and cheese board, which was sumptuous and savory, backed up by the delicious focaccia provided on the side. My boyfriend then had the pappardelle while I had a lemony linguine with clams and mussels, both of which were enjoyable. We finished with a perfect tiramisu that melted in our mouths.
