My wife and I visited this restaurant on Memorial Day for our anniversary because we were craving tacos and wanted a nice rooftop dinner experience. Unfortunately, from the moment we arrived, the entire night was disappointing and honestly ruined what was supposed to be a special evening. When we got off the elevator at the rooftop entrance, there was no host or greeter anywhere in sight. The restaurant itself was dark, mostly empty, and only had one other family dining outside. We stood there awkwardly for several minutes before someone finally acknowledged us and said someone would be with us shortly. A woman eventually came out with menus, but never greeted us, smiled, introduced herself, or spoke beyond seating us. We then waited around 15 minutes just to place our order. There were no menu recommendations, no explanation of dishes, and no basic hospitality whatsoever. I specifically requested NO black beans on my meal. After an extremely long wait for food in a nearly empty restaurant, my plate arrived covered in black beans. I politely mentioned that I had asked for them to be removed, and instead of apologizing, the server responded with an annoyed "ugh, I told them," grabbed the plate aggressively, and walked away. I also asked about the cheese on the tostada because the menu simply said "cheese," which most people would reasonably assume means mozzarella, Mexican blend, queso fresco, etc. Instead, it came covered in crumbled feta cheese, which I do not eat. The server never mentioned it, never asked, and acted irritated when I brought it up. She made a nasty face, ignored me mid-conversation, and walked away. Meanwhile, my wife's food was terrible. Her shrimp tacos were bland and soggy, and the rice tasted like it had been overcooked in water until it turned into mush. While waiting for my corrected plate, I realized they never even brought my rice out at all. After another long wait, my "corrected" meal finally arrived - except instead of simply removing the black beans, they stripped almost everything off the dish. What I got back was basically dry tostadas with chicken and lettuce. No crema, no pico de gallo, no proper toppings, no effort. I tried to ignore it and gave it a chance, one bite only... but the food tasted like it had been cooked in old, dirty oil. The smell and flavor were so bad that I immediately lost my appetite. At that point, I politely told the server that we were just going to leave and asked for the bill. I wasn't asking for free food, discounts, or an argument - I simply wanted to pay and leave peacefully. Instead, she slammed the check down next to me with another attitude-filled expression and walked off. Because of her behavior, I didn't even feel comfortable handing her my card, so I went inside to pay directly with the manager. I calmly explained the situation and expected at least a little empathy or professionalism. Instead, the manager basically told me that if I didn't like the food or service, I should just leave -- "like he would do." That response alone told me everything I needed to know about how this restaurant operates. Not once did anyone apologize sincerely, attempt to fix the situation, offer a replacement, offer dessert, remove an item, or show any interest in customer service. Instead, the staff became defensive, argumentative, and confrontational. I told him that his server was rude and disrespectful as she sat there staring at me, hands on her hip, laughing sarcastically as I explained what happened. That same manager walked from behind the counter and approached me face-to-face aggressively, telling me that "I cannot call the food nasty and if I didn't like it, to pay and leave but to not argue with a woman" while the same woman server continued making comments from behind the counter: "how am I rude? How am I disrespectful? I didn't even talk" (that's my point!) What should have been a simple anniversary dinner turned into one of the worst dining experiences my wife and I have ever had. Terrible service, terrible food, rude staff, poor management, and absolutely zero accountability. We left hungry, frustrated, and shocked at how badly the situation was handled. The inside is not nice or comfortable and we should have left upon first sight however I gave it a chance because of the other good reviews. The fish taco was salty but tasted fresh but the carnitas/pork taco was suspect--it was cubed instead of shredded and tasted oddly gamey (I was actually a little concerned about the safety). The crepe was thick but otherwise good. I don't enjoy giving bad reviews but there are 10 other restaurants there at St. Armand's and I was really disappointed we spent $100 here. read more

The only change I would make would be when ordering the taco combo the meat tends to soften the corn tortilla so badly that when you get to the 2nd one the tortilla falls apart & lands in a heap on your plate & all over your hands. We stopped by here looking for a brunch spot on a Saturday morning. It wasn't too busy and we were seated outside right away. It was a hot day but luckily the tables are shaded so you don't feel the heat too much. I ordered the California eggs Benedict and my boyfriend ordered the Atomica crepe. The home fries were delicious. The eggs Benedict was okay. I broke one of the eggs and water poured out onto the plate and I had to move the food to not get soggy from it. The other egg was cooked right. The Atomica crepe was pretty good. I don't like crepes. But it kind of tasted like a veggie pizza and I do love pizza. We didn't notice until the end that the scrambled eggs were in there. I guess the way the crepe was made was that the eggs were like in the inner portion of the cone so by the time we got to the eggs we were full and didn't really eat them. I had the Fruit of the Sea Crepe and it was pretty tasty but it was missing something. I think it would have been much tastier topped with Hollandaise sauce. I wanted to add the Hollandaise but the waiter never came back by our table until we were all finished with our meal. I give food today 3.5 stars and service 2.5 stars. The food here is great but the service is lacking. We had to ask for water three separate times from two different servers and then had to ask for coffee four times to just a get a refill. Also, the bathrooms were dirty and had no soap left at all. When I told them it seemed like they didn't have enough time to get new soap so nothing was done. Apparently this place is known for crepes (one of my favorite breakfast/dessert items) so we had to stop by. We got a nice seat near the railing, overlooking Armand's Circle which had a great view. Our servers Roxy and Valerie were very attentive - Roxy in particular was very sweet and accommodating. I thought my crepe was good - it didn't necessarily live up to the hype but it wasn't bad, either. I had an expectation that it would be warm (I guess all the crepes I've had before have been made fresh) but it was cold. I don't know if it had been sitting on a counter for some time or if their crepes are pre-made. My group said the rest of their food was pretty mediocre, as well - nothing too special. After bringing out all our food, we did have to remind our waitress to bring out the coffee drinks we had ordered. They offer both sweet and savory as well as breakfast crepes, along with sandwiches for lunch. The French Riviera is a chicken crepe with artichokes, cheese, tomato, and white wine. It came with a small salad, very French. The food didn't rock my world, but it was fine, the first part I ate seemed just chicken, the artichoke didn't stand out as much as I expected. Cilantro Grill is a hidden gem of St.Armands Circle. It is an upstairs restaurant with great balcony seating area, above the busy streets and with a nice view of the palm trees. It is easy to miss, you have to take an elevator to enter the restaurant,and if the guy at the street wouldn't offer us the menu,we would never find that great restaurant. Can't say enough great thins about Cilantro Grill after a lovely brunch sitting on the rail of their patio, overlooking St Armand's Circle. The service was excellent - attentive without being intrusive, and you can tell the place is family-run, so the staff worked together well and were on top of things. I enjoyed one of their crepes, which was melt-in-your-mouth delicious, and the cafe leche was delish. Our meals came out quickly and well presented. I should note that they were not particularly busy on this Saturday morning that we dined there, so I could see things running less smoothly if it was packed, but all in all we had a great brunch and most certainly will be back. read more
