This is a great Mexican restaurant. I've been to many in NY but this one is the best. The food and service is and has always been on point. We've been there many times & never had a negative experience. As for some of the negative reviews I've read, I can't even begin to believe them. How can you say the guacamole wasn't great when they make it right there in front of you, & you can have it seasoned any way you want. If you don't want a lot of onion, just say so!!! As for people complaining about parking.... they have VALET service!!!! A couple of other negative reviews really just sounded like sour grapes, I have to wonder if those people ever really set foot in the place. Cinco de Mayo is a great little spot on Bell, it is a nice place to go with a group of friends or for a date. The prices are reasonable and the food is very tasty. They start you off with warm tortilla chips and salsa which are always devoured before our food gets there and they gladly refill it for you. Every time I have been there the waiters have been very attentive and fill up your water constantly (even after you take a few sips!). They have lunch specials for a great price that are so filling that I sometimes have some left over! I really enjoy the chimichanga, you can get it with chicken, ground beef or shredded beef. It is hugeeee and comes with rice and beans, sour cream and guacamole- yummm!! Many people that I come with enjoy their skirt steak, I have tried it before and it is always very tender and comes with a great creamy sauce on top. The first time I ordered the nachos for an app I was expecting a pile of chips with cheese and the like piled on but these come with only a few nachos but each one is made into their own little piece of heaven, they are covered with cheese, beans, salsa, sour cream and gauc. If there are alot of people in your party you will have to have more than one order (which can raise the price of your bill). Their margaritas and daiquiris are tasty as well, I recommend the peach and mango flavors. My friends and I came here to celebrate my first job out of college and we kept ordering drinks and shots and at the end of the night they gave us a round of free shots on the house- a nice gesture that I will remember! Cinco de Mayo exceeded my expectations, albeit not high considering this is Mexican in Bayside, but I was impressed! I ordered the shredded beef burrito and it was delicious...the shredded beef in particular! It was almost like roast, very flavorful, and very tender. The chips and salsa were good, not the best I've had, but very good. And last but not least the pitcher of margarita hit the spot. The only thing I wasn't thrilled with was the fried ice cream; the fried outer portion tasted weird. I will definitely eat here when I'm out in Bayside visiting friends. read more

I came in here for lunch. We asked about the margaritas and he told me it's 8 for a fresh margarita and 6 for their preñase batch. We settled for the six dollar one since 8 is a little pricy for lunch cocktails. The margarita was the weirdest flavor. 6 of us came here for dinner. 2 arrived 5 minutes before the rest of the party who was still looking for parking. Our party would not be seated unless everyone was there even though there was only one other table occupied so the entire place was empty (it was a 6pm on a Saturday)- luckily the weather was nice so they waited outside for us. But it makes me wonder what they would have done if it was raining. The service was average. The only thing that sticks out in my head is that our water glasses were always filled so that I appreciate but I feel like that should be a given in any restaurant. As per fellow yelpers we started with the mango sangria and original margaritas (small pitchers of each) and they were good. We had the fresh guac and one bowl did well for the 6 of us along side the salsa. I personally prefer a chunky salsa and this was more pureed but it was good anyway. Majority of the table had fajitas (steak chicken and shrimp) another had the vegetable fajita or taco i dont remember and I had the arroz con pollo which was more of a paella with the rice slightly undercooked. The chicken was bone in and I found that the few pieces of chicken I had were mostly that- bone and fat. I would prefer boneless chunks and know I'm guaranteed chicken. Everyone was happy with the meals. Fajitas came with a side if rice and beans and tortillas were shared amongst the table. The only big complaint was the shrimp was over cooked but it was alright. Everything was seasoned really well and the portions were fairly big and I got lunch out of my meal as well. This place was nicely decorated. Gave it three stars solely for the fun atmosphere and tasty margaritas. I've had better Mexican at Taco Bell but if your scene is greasy low quality food you might enjoy it. I heard the food used to be better and recently went downhill. You can always spot people not familiar with quality Mexican food because their review always start with "love the guacamole made to order and warm chips with salsa" which you can clearly get anywhere nowadays. Regardless I do enjoy coming here for the happy hour specials and an occasional appetizer but wouldn't recommend sitting down for a meal. If you approach Cinco de mayo as an uninspired, if solid, Mexican joint you will be pleasantly surprised. Their food is of good quality and is quite flavorful. Some of their appetizers leave something to be desired. The chorizo, for example, is hard as a rock while their sopa de toritlla is bland and mostly tastes of chicken stock. Their beef, while not everyone's cup of tea, is pleasantly chewy and flavorful and all of their lunch specials come with tortilla chips and guacamole. Overall I would recommend this restaurant even though it doesn't offer 'vision' nor 'direction' in terms of the food and flavor combinations. read more

Over the years we have been to this restaurant about 10 times. My husband would take me here back during our dating years. We obviously enjoyed the food and loved having the guacamole made to order table side. It had been about a year and a half since we last ate there and decided the other day that it would be nice to go back. Well, sadly things have changed. The food wasn't anywhere near as good as it use to be. It seemed as if they were cutting corners. Even the chips they served weren't as good. It was such a disappointment that we both decided we wouldn't be going back unless we hear or see via Yelp that things have changed. Decided to try this place for Taco Tuesday and it was a very disappointing experience. I'm guessing people that give this place 5 stars do not know anything about mexican food. $17 for 3 tacos?!? are you nuts?! Even the best spots are like $3 a taco...soo I decided to have the tortilla soup instead.. yuck! It was soo bad I only took two sips. My bf had the chicken fajitas and it was bad too, smelled delicious but was very bland. Rice and beans were super bland too. The only good things we had were a Margarita ($8), the corona ($5) and the chicken nachos (forgot how much but there were like 8 nachos - not lying). Oh and I overhead the waitress say that minimum for delivery is $40. Another plus was the service - the waitress was very nice but the food was oh so bad. Came here with 2 friends for a late dinner. There's nothing "cinco de mayo" about this place. We had the calamari (chipotle-mayo was good) to share, paella, chimichanga, and poblanas. The paella stole the spotlight from the other dishes but nothing really to rave about except for the price/portion. The dry meat in the chimichanga and poblanas made it a little hard to eat. This is a really nice mexican restaurant that I somehow always end up celebrating peoples' birthdays at. It has a lively nighttime atmosphere with great margaritas. Don't do it! The food was poorly seasoned and I only at it because I was so hungry. Went with my cousin and she wasn't pleased with her food. I had enchiladas and she had the taco. Shared nachos and it was a ghetto version that I could have made at home. Only good thing honestly was guacamole. I usually don't like guacamole and they make a great guac. I really enjoy going to Cinco's after work on Thursday's with my friend, to have a nice dinner with the fiancé, or to order in when I don't feel like walking in a foot of snow! I came here on a Friday night along with my friends to celebrate a birthday. We brought our own cake to eat and celebrate the birthday but the waiter tells us the manager said they charge $3 per person to open the cake. Ummm wth? What kind of service and bs is that. I literally cracked up and was speechless. The portion of the food was terrible compared to the price of the food. I will not come back here ever again. I lived most of my life in Mexico so I know good mexican food when I have it and I love this place! The service is beyond amazing, the waiters are extremely attentive, fast, and very funny! I always have the mango margaritas and the chile rellenos and the boyfriend has the pineapple mojito and the chilaquiles con pollo. I have tried the mole and it is delish. Just finished a great meal at Cinco de Mayo! I was surprised that they still had lunch specials after 3pm. $6.95 and the food was great! I had the steak fajitas and my son had the grilled pork chop (Chuleta.) My husband ordered off of the regular menu and enjoyed his chicken dish. Let's not mention the fact that while a half finished plate sits on your table, a passing waiter will clear it out without your consent. Popped in to this place for lunch and ran into about a dozen lunch specials--very reasonably priced--that sounded good. Opted for the Bayside Burrito and it was delicious. Available in either chicken or beef, topped with excellent guacamole, sour cream and salsa accompanied by a generous portion of rice and beans. The meal began with chips and an excellent salsa that had a bit of a kick to it. I happen to like ales and dark beers. The owner recommended a Mexican dark beer--Negra somethingorother--which turned out to be terrific. This is not a white tablecloth, upscale place but it's quite nice and quite clean. Service is swift and attentive and the owner is friendly and, if not busy, talkative. It was fairly empty at lunch when I was there which is a shame since this is a comfortable restaurant which seems to serve very good food. Try their lunch specials. At $7.95--a bargain! After moving to Bayside, from Astoria, in the summer of 2011 it wasn't long before I began to miss the Tex-Mex food of Taco Palace that had long become a staple in my delivery dinner menu. My wife and I ventured down Bell Boulevard in search of something different and what we found was Cinco De Mayo. Their decor is homey and simple and their staff is knowledgable and offer suggestions but what truly makes this place my Bayside favorite is their delicious fajitas and burritos. All their meats (chicken, beaf, steak, etc) taste fresh and lean and the food is always served piping hot. The guacamole is made fresh right on your table in an old style cast bowl and can be adjusted to your taste buds with more or less spice. If you have a taste for Mexican and live in the Bayside area then I strongly suggest a visit. SIDE NOTE: They do deliver but their delivery time is usually 45 minutes at least and takes the hot zesty presentation out of their restaurant feel. read more
