I stopped in for a take-home lunch shortly after the Cinco de Mayo opened for business. I waited in the front area for my food, but I could see that the restaurant, although kind of small, was nicely decorated. I had the Veggie Burrito a la Mayo and it was very tasty. It was filled with perfectly grilled zucchini, onions, peppers, and mushrooms and topped with a creamy sauce. The accompanying rice was a turn off, however. I get the impression that it was supposed to be flavored..it has a little color, but it was bland and flavorless. I happen to like rice, but not theirs'. It's probable that I'll visit the Cinco de Mayo again, but only for lunch. read more

Our favorite Mexican restaurant. Love, love love their tacos- mix & match allows me to get 3 different ones. The hot sauce that comes with the tacos is SPICY- definitely use sparingly. Margaritas are delicious. My favorite is the grilled tilapia tacos, but the choripollo taco was very tasty and my husband always goes for the Diablo tacos. This place is wonderful! I was visiting MD for a work trip, and needed to find good restaurants that were open later in the evening. There weren't many options in the neighborhood, but I was so pleased to find Cinco de Mayo! The food was delicious and fresh, and the margaritas were perfect (not too sweet, just right!). I am vegetarian, and it can be challenging finding flavorful dishes that are more than rice, beans, and lettuce. The veggie fajitas has SO MANY delicious vegetables and great flavor! I really didn't like it here. First things first, the chips and salsa came out and were awesome - they were warm and so good. BUT, after looking at the menu, everything Was pretty pricey. Once we all got our food the portions were on the smaller side and honestly not worth it for the price. There were also were not many vegan options at all, which was so disappointing. I don't think I will come back here as it was so hard to find an option I could eat with no meat or dairy. Best Mexican restaurant I've been to in the area. Seated immediately, all employees wearing masks properly, chips and salsa provided as soon as we were seated. In my opinion, veryyyy good salsa! My wife and I started off with the dip trio, which was a good size for its price and tasted amazing all around. For our entrees, I had the Favorito and she had the Enchiladas suizas. I'd give the Favorito a 10/10, easily one of the best Mexican dishes I've ever had. The enchiladas suizas also deserves a 10. Took my wife and kids here awhile back and the food was hot and smacking! The waiters were attentive and my brew was ice cold. I'm from Cali and have had authentic Mexican food and they did a pretty good job matching deliciousness. My family are eaters too so the portions were generous enough because if not my bottom less stomached family would have broken my pockets and it was too close to Easter to have rabbit ears. COVID SAFE TO DINE IN! Great food and excellent service! My wife and two sons ate there last night.

My family and I came in at around 845-900 pm one evening and they were closing at 10pm so as we walked in we were already getting the eyes rolling and stares, because the employees were sitting in the dining room just chatting. The service sucked, the food was eh at best. To keep it short, there are much better places in Columbia for Mexican food. I defiantly recommend Uncle Julio's by the Columbia mall. read more

So, visited on Saturday night. Walked in around 7pm. The restaurant wasn't really busy. Maybe the weather had something to do with it, I question that thought even two days later. We were seated. The obligatory basket of chips and bowl of salsa were dropped off at the table. Our server came to the table, never actually introduced herself, the receipt said it was Erika. Well Erika was lacking a sense of care. She tells us that she'd be taking care of us. Following her lackluster introduction, she asks if we wanted to order drinks, my partner ordered a sweet tea, and I ordered the same, and the lack I mentioned, was met with a slight eye roll. Clearly disappointed that we weren't ordering anything from the bar (which was also not very busy.) She we returns with our drinks, and we barely had time to check the menu and she was already asking if we were ready to order. We hadn't taken a sip of our drinks and there was this being rushed feeling. So I politely asked for a minute or two to look over the menu. Again I caught a slight eye roll. We finally made our choices, and were enjoying the chips, when Erika returned to take our order. My partner ordered a bowl of Chicken Tortilla soup to start and then the Fish Tacos, and I ordered the Enchilada combo that came with 4 different enchiladas, I also ordered a side of rice and beans. Erika asked if we wanted more salsa, we said yes and she took a still half full basket of chips off the table, just to bring them back a little fuller. Our food comes to the table. For some reason there was an extra pungency coming from the fish tacos. Erika asked if we wanted refills, I was barely half done with mine, but agreed. She brought them back to the table and I had ice past the top of glass. Seriously?!? Well I looked at my plate and was almost convinced that the enchiladas made fresh but after taking a bite of the first one, I was again reminded that they gave of this banquet style cook, where kitchens will cook in bulk and re-dress the plates. My partner ate the first taco, and pushed the plate away from him. He said that something didn't taste right. He also had commented earlier that the soup was "just okay" and said that there was too much raw onion dumped in, the avocado tasted off, and there was rice in the soup. I've never heard of a chicken tortilla soup having rice in it. It wasn't until I finished my plate that Erika finally came to the table to clear the plate. She asked if he wanted to have the tacos boxed up, and he told her no, that something didn't taste right with them. She asked if he wanted something else, and he said no. She took the plates. The one thing she completely missed, was simple, the apology. A simple "I'm sorry" would have sufficed. She returns to the table, states that she took the meal off the bill, then asks if we wanted to order dessert and followed the question with " since I took the tacos off." As if we're obligated to order because you took a bad meal off the receipt. I declined, and requested the receipt. Then the assumption that the check was supposed to be split, and when I said no, she walked away. This restaurant is a far cry from decent Mexican style anything. I'd be surprised if they last the year it's approaching. Maybe they make their money on the bar? And as far as Customer Service, the server gets a - 5 Stars. Don't like the job, fake it. Don't let the customer catch you rolling your eyes. That's disrespectful on so many levels. If Yelp would allow us to give zero or no stars that's exactly what they deserve. Definitely will not miss this place when we leave Maryland. read more

I've been coming to this place occasionally, since it's in our neighborhood, we came yesterday and it's sad to say but it is getting worse every time, from hard meat on the carne asada(what it's supposed to be steak), dried chicken tacos, oily and hard churros or rotten brown avocado on the guacamole, I ordered fajita Texana witch I couldn't finish because the veggies and the meat in the bottom were burned, my son and daughter couldn't finish their meal either, everything was blend, the staff always responsive and try to accommodate us but it isn't enough the food needs some work to complement the service. For sure there's something wrong about this place since the last 2 time we came here noticed less customers, on a Sunday evening the place was empty. Hopefully they could have a turnaround before it's too late, it's great to have a Mexican place in the neighborhood. read more

There several great Mexican food options on the area... This is not one of them. I started the meal with the made table-side guacamole. Though obviously fresh made, it was just not good. We asked our waiter to bring more cilantro, garlic (brought garlic powder) and lime, that and some salt made it passable. Went for the build your own platter. Chose the beef tips burrito and beef tips enchilada. The only difference was one was a flour tortilla, the other corn. Nothing inside either but the beef tips. Same sauce on top. Same cheese. Enchilada, burrito....potato, patato. Would not order either again. Not sure I'd order anything again. On the up side, the service was good. JUST SO YOU KNOW!!! I lived in Northern California and I have been to a few authentic Mexican restaurants and TexMex restaurants. My sister-in-law's aunt and family owned a Mexican restaurant. So I have had my share of Mexican food over the years and I love it. We have a regular place we go to in Odenton, Pachanga Grill, so I compare the food and Margarita's of other restaurants to them. We went there on the suggestion of a friend who works there, Georgie Gonzalez. The restaurant wasn't as small as I first thought when you look at it from the outside. We had a very friendly greeting and were seated in my friend's section. The other staff members were very friendly as well and the salsa and chips came out right away and didn't disappoint me. He was very tasty, but not too spicy. We ordered the house margaritas on the rocks with salt and they were pretty good. We usually get the chicken fajitas so decided to try theirs. You can get a single order or a double order for two people. The single order gives you 3 soft shells and a lot of chicken, green peppers and onions with grilled tomatoes also, which were great. The single order is enough for us. The chicken was cut up smaller than usual instead of longer strips. I judge the hotness of the fajitas by the amount of smoke coming off the hot skillet...it was SMOKIN!!! The flavor was what you would expect from fajitas, but not over the top. The one thing I did notice is that I had to hunt for the smaller pieces of chicken in lots of green peppers and onions. The larger strips are better. They do have a lot of specials during the week so look at the table tent to see what is on special for that day. FYI...Happy Hour is from 4-6 PM. The service was the best part of the evening since Georgie was our server, but I believe we would have gotten just as good service from any of the others who were very friendly. We will be going back to try a few more dishes. If you decide to go there for dinner, ask for Georgie and tell him Larry sent you. Thanks Georgie for recommending Cinco de Mayo....we will be back. I have been looking for a real mexican restaurant that doesn't use yellow cheese and sour cream and I think I finally found it!. I ordered one taco of carnitas, one of choripollo and one of steak and all were excellent!... my husband even finished the rice and beans that came with his choripollo!..... my only suggestion will be to work on the salsa that they give you with the tortilla chips at the beginning, that is not real mexican, they should change it for a salsa verde or ranchera read more
