This place has the most amazing sandwiches. The ingredients aren't "fancy" or "changed every week" but they are fresh, consistent and freaking delicious. The best $8 you will spend on a sandwich, guaranteed!!! There is no skimping on ingredients, avocado you get full slices on your bread, bacon, theres BACON on that puppy, and they can toast it for you so the bread is warm. I could go on and on. I go to Comic Con every year...and the food in the SDCC is awful AND expensive. When I want food, I want something I can bring into the SDCC and eat easily without creating a mess. There are 2 Subways nearby, but during the convention, their lines are far too long for any sandwich that Subway makes. I found the Cine Cafe by luck a few years back and it is my go to place whenever I am at the convention center. Their sandwiches are so big they last me quite a while while I am in the center, and the shop is close enough to grab something and quickly return. the people working there have always been friendly to me as well. read more

Chose this place due to reviews on Yelp. When you walk up to the building and look inside, it looks nasty, but the lines and customers will tell you otherwise. Everything I tried (Greek salad, BLT with avocado, and turkey club) was fresh, super yummy, huge and cheap. Went there twice in 2 days and planning to go back again. Great service. My friend and I were wandering the streets outside our hotel this weekend hoping to find a place to buy booze to pregame before hitting the clubs later on. Thank God we stumbled upon Cine Cafe! First off- we were expecting to have a hard time finding a liquor store to begin with. The location is surprisingly perfect, considering there are rarely quality liquor stores in a downtown area that's crowded with bars and clubs. Next- the selection was impressively extensive. Not only in terms of the brands of alcohol offered, but they pretty much had everything in every size...from the tiny flasks to the biggest handles. Dude behind the counter jokingly judged us for going for the big bottle of Jack....if only he could have seen what the result was. BONUS POINTS: everything was very well stocked considering that it was Comic Con weekend and there were throngs of people. Way to go, guys! We couldn't resist all of the tasty food offerings, which were also a pleasant surprise. We were pretty plain with chips and a turkey sammy on rye, but the bread was soft, and the ingredients were yummy and fresh. Perfect snack before raging. More bonus points: I accidentally grabbed a Diet Pepsi instead of regular, and the man behind the counter quickly ran to the fridge and grabbed the right one for me even though I was way closer. 3.5 stars. Good if you're looking for a cheap breakfast in the Gaslamp District. I got a $4.50 breakfast sandwich - croissant, egg, cheese, and your choice of bacon, sausage, or something else. I can't remember since I chose bacon of course. I think they used egg beaters since the consistency was kind of like airplane eggs. The bacon was crisp and not overly fatty. Today i landed at this location by chance. While at work i usually have the same tired options for lunch, SO i went off my beaten path an took a trip into the gaslamp district. First to stand out CINE' CAFE'. HELLO i love me a good sandwich. I have heard a thing or two about this place but never made it inside to snag some food. Let me tell you about their selections, WOW!! they have an endless supply of pre-made sandwiches *only bad thing, not really that bad, no mayo, or mustard included* and a ton of pre-made salads. The Sandwiches are freaking HUGE! About $6-$8 bucks lands you are mega sandwich. This day i had the Roast Beef. Well done Cine' Cafe' Their chip selection if off the wall, right up there with the "Market Place Deli" I love being able to spend about 10min. looking for the perfect bag of chips to compliment my awesome sandwich. I think next time i hit gaslamp or a padre game i might take Danny W's advice and stock up on some Nips so i can spice up my $8 cokes!! read more

Wow! We stayed at the Hilton a stones throw from here and after reading reviews we decided to try it. It is definitely not a place to go for ambiance but if u are looking for GREAT sandwiches and convenient drinks, snacks and alcohol. This is your place!! Nice sandwich and convience store located in the Gas Lamp district. In between all the sit down resturants, a good place for grab and go food since I was attending a conference and didn't have much time for lunch. They serve freshly made salads and sandwiches. Ate here twice and got the BLT and the Club sandwich. The sandwiches are neatly prepared and are pretty big. They have several bread choices but I got sourdough both times. I love bacon and the BLT was full of it. None of this 2 to 3 strips of bacon business. I'm talking about 5 to 6 strips of bacon goodness! Club sandwich came with turkey, letteuce, tomato and free avacado (sweet!). Sandwiches run from $6.50 to $8.50. Pretty cheap lunch although my bill came out to almost $30 since I bought some Mega Millions lottery tickets while I was waiting for my sandwich...Doh! And I didn't win! read more

Wow it's been a little bit since I've been at Cine Cafe and this time when I went everything was changed around, things cost more in that liquor store then in Coronado but that wasn't the bad part( you want the products you pay the money) the bad part was that I was asked if I would like to buy a bag -now I have 20 bags from various places that I purchased I never have them with me at the time so I said sure and I looked around the store some more and when I got ready to go and grab my bag it was paper a brown paper bag with no handles!! Now I was flabbergasted and I can't even believe that they even attempted to sell a brown paperbag (Is that even Legal???) I haven't even seen a liquor store do it yet well except for today. I thought the whole deal was to sell reusable bags no way in hell you can reuse a brown paper bag with no handles. Then after filling my bag to the brim I guess I had to carry it out with two hands. Just got back from a few days in lovely San Diego (gaslamp area). We stayed at the hilton and just across the street was this little liquor store. I was expecting the usual ... $7 marlboros, $2 for a bag of chips (you get the idea). Checked out the deli and I could not believe the salads and sandwiches they offered. Absolutely fantastic! They have a chicken breast salad, mixed with fruit - plus, a turkey club that was piled high and loaded with bacon and avocado.. for around $7-8 a pop. Yogurt/berry mixes, fruit salads,etc.. I gave her a look of I need help. She gave me that frustrated sigh and look and pulled the box out of a mixture of oddities. I thought they we're overpriced but whatever, I needed it.. I wish I could say the employees that work here were as awesome as their sandwiches. I live a block away and stop in to grab things here and there but after the rudeness of the cashier when I was ordering a sandwich, I don't think I'll return. Every time I go in the workers are hardly doing their job, they usually finish their text message or phone call that they are in the middle of before doing what they are paid for, ringing up guests. I can deal with that, whatever, it's annoying and unprofessional but it's not like this is a 5 star establishment. What I don't appreciate is the way the cashier spoke to me on my last visit. I ordered a sandwich, some of the options don't list what comes on them.....how am I supposed to know every ingredient, I'm not a psychic. Instead of being friendly and informing me, he asked me in the most irritating and disrespectful tone, "well what do you want on it, do you want it as it comes or what" I was shocked, I felt like I was being yelled at. I asked him what came on it, he seemed so annoyed that I asked and didn't even answer my question so I just told him to make it however it comes. If they don't want to inform people of the ingredients on their sandwiches, then maybe they should list them. If they hate their job so much (which appears to be the issue) maybe they should find a new one. I'm not sure who owns the place but I'm sure they would be unhappy how they saw how these young kids run the place. There are so many options downtown, you can't treat the locals in such a disrespecting manner. The staff at the hard rock use to go in a get sandwiches on their breaks and were told to stop coming in because ordering 8 sandwiches or so was just making the Cine workers too busy and they didn't want to deal with it......wow. When it comes to deli sandwiches... I am really hard to please. I work downtown and go to Cine Cafe about once a week to pick up lunch. I have had nothing but positive experiences there. They make excellent hot and cold sandwiches to order and everything always seems fresh. Their pre-made salads are yummy too. And whatever you order... The portions are plentiful.
