Came here with a group of girlfriends. Made reservations with the plan to see a movie. The table was ready for us and our drink order was taken. We ordered a variety of items that we could share and were very pleased. I ordered the Marscapone Spinach Pizza. I can't wait to have it again. I could have eaten the entire pizza on my own. We got our tickets while we were at the table. The food was great the waiters pleasant. The only reason that I dropped a star was because of the time that it took to get our drinks. We did take the drinks into the theater with us and loved that there were saved seats for us in the theater because we have bought our tickets while in the restaurant (at least I think that was why they were saved) they were fantastic seats. My friends and I had a blast and will definitely do this again. The drinks were delicious even if they took a little longer to get, worth the wait. read more

Great service, good happy hour but their wine list is a joke. $8 for a glass of Wycliff Brut? It's $8 a bottle at Safeway and $50 for a case! It's a shame, being that they are right next to a wine bar. At the prices they are charging, they could offer their customers better products and not raise their costs too much- a nice cava from Spain etc. Their whole wine list is pretty bad. read more

My husband and I came in for brunch. We are disappointed by the food especially for the price. The salmon toasts, that are listed as an entree was tiny!!! As it came to the table we noticed that one of the ingredients was completely left off for no reason. We explained this to the waitress and she said she didn't really know this dish (which was a bit annoying as there are only 7 dishes served at brunch). She brought the manager over and the manager confirmed that the dish was wrong. My husband was served his food, so I had to wait an additional time to get my food. My husband's dish was super bland, he needed to add salt and tabascco sauce to make it edible. Needless to say it was not the best experience. Since they messed up on my order I assumed they would comp our ice tea, or take a percentage off, nope! I went here with my wife just for the food. I like the concept of getting good food to go with a movie. You can order and have food delivered to you in the theater. We had the Godfather pizza, the beef thai satay and chicken wings. The pizza was great, it had hand made dough and cooked to perfection. The beef satay comes out on a hot stone so you can "cook it" at the table. It comes with a spicy cucumber salad and peanut sauce which was pretty good. The chicken wings come plain but with three dipping sauces. A spicy/sweet chili sauce which was OK but not the best in my opinion, a sweet teriyaki sauce which was pretty good and a very flavorful remoulade that was good. I also had the ginger brew, think ginger ale made with real ingredients and on steroids!!!! It had real ginger with a cane sugar syrup, the first sip kicks you back as it is very spicy but very good. It mellow with a little time but if you are into a spicy drink this one is great....with certainly come back to enjoy a show as well. read more

I really wanted to like this place since its family owned. How many family owned theater combined with restaurant do you know? That being said....maybe Cinema grill is just not our cup of tea. Two gfs and I decided to try this new restaurant for our monthly catch ups. Our waiter was prompt with the menu and water, but not once did I see him smile; even when we're joking with him. They didn't' have Jameson, Crown Royal, or Hendricks. Granted, its all "commercialized" brand but I didn't want to give any random brand a try due to allergic reaction to some unfamiliar alcohol. So, I went with the Bulleit Manhattan and after three of those, I assured you that they're pretty cheap on the alcohol giving that its almost $10 a drink. The food was average and a bit over priced. The menu description makes me drool but once it came to the table, it doesn't live up to it. My friend's fish tacos was the worst. Just a mushy mess!! It wasn't full the entire night even though it was during peak dinner hours on a Friday night. So, we tried to keep our conversation low, but sometimes its hard to contain sudden loud laughter, a bunch of curse words, and a few dirty secrets. We're so afraid of other diners eavesdropping since everyone was either not talking or talking really, really soft! My friends and I have been friends for almost 30years and we love to eat, drink. laugh, and curse!! Come on, who wants to be with friends with sober and boring people?! The server seems odd and cold and when he presented us with the check, he seems rushed since he has to catch a movie and said, " yea, all of us get to watch free movies". So, there you have it. That sum up the service for you. Should've tipped my 20% to the busser; which was 10x better than our server. For $70/person, I doubt Cinema Grill will be on my weekend dining rotation. Food was okay, not edible. I like the concept of ordering food and eating it while watching a movie. I wished they had better selections of food. Pizza was soggy. On a separate occasion we for the chicken Caesar wrap and it was filled with kale and almost not edible. I am giving 3 stars for the concept. read more

Service was really slow and it was not overly crowded. A couple behind us left, as no one came by to take their order. Wish we we would have left too. I ordered the salmon lox on toast points. Love the bartenders. If you go, sit at the bar. They will treat you right and are super friendly. Good drink and food deals like mimosas and happy hour. Came in with friends to try it out. Had the sizzling stone flank (3 pieces of meat) and a classic margarita pizza. Food was okay...since we didn't try much from the menu. Drinks were great! Went here before a movie, and had a great time. Bought movie tickets there, ate dinner, then brought a drink next door for our film. I love the idea! Beer selection was good, wine and drink selection was good, food was good. I'm not giving a full 5 stars because the food wasn't AMAZING - but good, solid food. We will definitely go back. read more

I have come here quite a few times. Some dishes are good such as the Bison meatloaf, fish tacos and chicken sliders. The sweet potato fries as an appetizer are the best I've had. First visit on Xmas eve. The food was good but I thought a bit pricey. I had the bison meatloaf. Denser than I expected but not bad. My husband ordered the pork chop and enjoyed it. The drinks left a lot to be desired. I ordered a chocolate martini which was the worst I've ever had. My husband ordered a glass of wine. Strange thing here...we were at a table facing the bar and saw the bartender pour the glass of wine, then pour some from that glass into another glass, which he then passed to another customer. I've lived in Alameda for many years and this place is as good as it gets! Appetizers are excellent and, believe it or not , reasonably priced for the town. I have been to Cinema Grill 4 times, but only eaten 3. My first visit they was at 8:45PM one evening and they had literally run out of food and had about 65% of the offerings available. It was actually quite funny as every time my son and I ordered something the server said, " oh, i'm sorry but we ran out of that." It was like an old "I Love Lucy" episode I saw once where Lucy and Ricky and the Mertz's were running a restuarant. Anyway, I have eaten there 3 times. I have had the Cheese Platter each time either as an appetizer or entree. While it is good, they only give you 3 little tiny pieces of toasted baguette with the platter. I have had to ask for more bread each time. Sometimes it has some olive oil on it (better), and sometimes it doesn't (worse). Last night they actually tried to charge me $2 for 3 extra little pieces of baguette I requested. I had specifically told the waitress that I desired more baguette when I place the order, but she just didn't get it! She did remove the $2 charge after I made a big deal out of it - it was the principal - believe me. I left her a 20% tip. Where is the consistency. Come on - bread - give me a break, most every restaurant serves it up front with no charge - but not cinema grill. My kids burger was good, but not very big for the price. No Coke or Pepsi, but you can have a glass of "craft cola" for $4 a pop. Give me a break $4 for imitation coke smells like a rip-off to me. After tax and tip that $4 phony coke costs what, $5 a glass. After taxes, I have to make at least $8 to buy that "craft cola". They seem to push the idea of expensive cocktails which I am sure is needed for the profit margin. Giving 4 Stars for the ambiance, convenience, and friendly, if inexperienced wait staff, other wise it would be 3 Stars. Restaurant business is tough and I hope Cinema Grill succeeds where others have failed. Customers ultimately return if they feel they are getting value - Cinema Grill needs to step-up a little in this area. read more

So my first time trying the Cinema grill. All I can say is this place is a complete disappointment. Husband went to order two drinks mine was a cranberry vodka and his was "supposed" to be a mojito. The first problem was it taking nearly 15 minutes for the bartender to acknowledge my husband and the place was nearly empty. The second problem was the bartender making a margarita, crushing some mint leaves in his hand tossing them in and calling it a mojito. The final and most heinous problem was then charging us $21.00 for the two drinks. This place is ridiculous in its customer service and prices. Stay away and save some money. read more

Rocco and his expert staff served a delicious lunch to our family reunion of 42 adults and children just before moving on into the Alameda Theatre for a matinee. The theatre arranged for a Minion to greet us as we arrived which set the stage for a private tour of the theatre and a reserved area for viewing the movie, MINIONS. Rocco offered to open the grill for a private lunch, serving a selection of tasty pizzas, crispy salads, and drinks. It was perfect for a warm summer day and with the genial staff to make it all happen, a 5-star experience. Im only giving the star for the concept of the place. Food was great, at least the meatloaf was. I couldn't enjoy my steak since I asked for the radish and the other sauce on the side and it still came out with it. My soup never came and when we finally said something about the missing dishes the cheese plate was delivered to the next table to which the patrons passed on the plate to us... even then the cheese plate was missing the baguette that it clearly stated on the menu it comes with, we asked for our bread and was informed we'd be charged $1 for bread if we wanted some??? The manager/owner? did come to our table and spoke with us when we were about done with everything but it felt like too little too late:/ He had visited the table that passed us the cheese plate (that WE ordered and THEY handled) at least 3 times when we were sitting there. If I wanted to pay big city prices I'd just come out to the city and get the appropriate service for it... We're not looking for a freebie and since I work the industry too I know to tip decent, but I wasn't going to spend my hard earned money on mediocre service. My family has been to Cinema Grill about 5 times. The food is eclectic and very good. You can get everything from sweet potato fries to quinoa. The drink menu also has some interesting attractions. All in all, we enjoy this restaurant. However, last night was a disaster. Apparently, there was an information systems outage that basically crippled the restaurant. The wait staff were trying their best to keep up with orders and tables, but all the tables around us (and including us) experienced very slow and spotty service. Sometimes we didn't see our waiter for 15-20 minutes. We could have overlooked this had there been better management of the problem. There appeared to be absolutely no back up plan for placing orders or managing the tables, and all the staff ran around in chaos. Wait staff appeared very stressed (which we understand) -- and there were too few of them -- and sometimes staff were inconsiderate and less than apologetic (i.e., when our neighboring table asked why it took 30 minutes for food to arrive, the response was "well, we have a busy restaurant to run.") If management had told people up front about the problem and come up with more creative solutions to get the food and drinks delivered more timely (and possibly sent complimentary appetizers or drinks), the results would have FELT different. There should always be a backup plan for when technology fails... because ultimately, it always does. We will probably try Cinema Grill again, but we heard several neighboring tables say they would never come again. Too bad. read more
