Slamming time at Citrico the night of 30 June 2023. Three of us sat outside, Miranda took good care of us as did the very suave bearded fella backing her up. Key points: 1] Look & feel: never been to Miami or Cabo but I imagine this is "the look." You walk into the space and there's something aboot the decor / tiles / how the bar is designed / all that natural light... CC has that "We're no longer in NY anymore" effect. Really turns a destination spot into a /destination/ spot. Bravo, designer. Also the DJ accesses the DJ station via ladder next to the bar, so he / she / they / xe / ze / ee has a commanding view of the floor. Eye in the sky, if you will. It's fun, adds to the club vibration. 2] Water is poured from Milagro bottles! This was hella confusing. I was so sure the couple at the adjacent table were alcoholics. Nope, just thirsty people. (I mean they COULD still be alcoholics; one never knows.) Also I think DoH would grill you alive for this so, manager/owner if you're reading this, it's very cute but if The Man sees this it'll be easy points. 3] HH pricing: target the tacos. It's a daggone steal. To get a HIGH-quality taco for $4 - $7? Shiiiiiiid, I'm there. You should be too, unless you don't like tacos. In which case -- it's a free country, you are entitled to your wrong opinion. Also I think there was a $11 burger on HH as well. 4] Solid mocktails and cocktails. Also, CC offers two non-alcoholic imitation shooters that mimic tequila and mezcal (!). $13 seems steep for a mixology experiment. The mezcal one did indeed come out smoky, so that was neat. Imitation shot was not my cup of tea, but I respect the move and perhaps some recovering alcoholic might enjoy this sort of thing (see point #2). 5] Finally: the daggone food. Great across the board, and it's a bonus that everything looks bright and lively and vibrant (see point #1). Chips & guac were good, corn ribs were BOMB, California asada fries were a heavy-ass portion that could've been a meal in itself. Had my first-ever-in-life grilled oyster and who knew! Cooking the damn thing makes it way more enjoyable than shooting a raw oyster, which often reminds me of [censored per Community Standards]. Otherwise we had a whole bunch of tacos and finished with the donut and the corn cake. And yes, it's tapas style so food flies out whenever it wants to. Let's talk about this gorgeous establishment. VIBE CHECK: Exceeded. I passed by this place on my way home from work and was immediately drawn in by the decor and had to come back. The staff is incredibly welcoming and the vibe is just the same. I could easily see myself here on a date or with friends getting a drink. I went with a classic frozen margarita (mango-flavored) and my friend got the Horchata Martini, which is more of a dessert drink. Both delicious! We watched one of the bar tenders really give that drink a GOOD shake; it was quite entertaining! For apps, we ordered the Chips & Guac and Croqueta de Papa. The Chips were fresh and salted, which was a great pairing with their guac (simple, I know, but done right). The Croqueta de Papa caught our eye when a table near us ordered it, and it was fantastic with the light garnish and sauce. The flavors were all very complimentary. We also ordered the Filet Mignon Asada Tacos, and I have to say these are the BEST tacos I've ever had, hands down. The portions were perfect, the taco was not soggy with a little bit of crunch, and the meat was so tender and juicy. I don't know about you but I've been to some places where the meat is too chewy or tough, but this was absolute perfection. (Serious compliments to the chef!) All and all, I'm glad this is down the street from me because I DEFINITELY will be back (and with friends). To start, the ambiance was very interesting.... It was a bit confusing to me chandeliers in one corner, woven lights in the next corner. However, I get what they were trying to achieve. Now the food! 1. The "ground beef" nachos were 90% beans and 10% ground beef. 2. The fish tacos has more batter than fish. 3. The entree was great! I ordered the steak I believe it was called "Tiguana BBQ" (I could be wrong don't quote me on that). The steak was cooked perfectly! Great filet mignon asada and baja fish tacos, coca cola carnitas didn't really taste like coca cola but still good. The California asada fries also pretty good. New -ish Mexican place in Astoria, renovated nicely. In a hot day the AC is on blast inside, making it pretty chilly. The outside is very cute as well, kinda covered so I can see it become a bit of a greenhouse situation if very hot. My friend and I showed up on a Saturday, right at 11am and the wait staff sat down very quickly. It stayed pretty empty throughout the whole time we were there and I can kinda attribute that to the fact that it's not a legit brunch place but the food is superb! We shared 3 dishes, tuna tostada (excellent), corn ribs (super yummy), steak and eggs (pretty good, but egg was not cooked as asked, and steak was just average). Been here a bunch of times for Happy Hour and dinner and the food hits every time! Can't beat the $9 Margarita HH specials ($11 for flavored). I appreciate that that they've also got a decent selection of cocktails, beer, and wine on the HH menu, apart from the margs. Service has always been top-notch, no matter who we get- polite, attentive, friendly, and always with great cocktail recommendations. Andrea (I think that's her name) is a favorite! The California Asada fries are probably my favorite starter- could easily eat an entire bowl myself. We always order a bunch of tacos and split them. Favorites include the Queso Birria, Filet Mignon Asada, and the Coca-Cola Carnitas tacos. Really tender and flavorful meat. Docked 1 star for the only negative- the noise level. If you happen to go on a night where there's live music or some kind of entertainment, it's nearly impossible to hear the other people at your table, even if you're yelling. This happened when we sat indoors and in their outdoor area. We probably would've stayed later until at least 10-1030 and drank more, but the salsa night and band started up around 8 and the frustration at not being able to hold a conversation led us to call it a night by around 9. To be clear, I'm still going back to Citrico when I can because it's great, just need to be mindful of their live music nights and events and time my visits accordingly. read more

I just found out about this place and it did not disappoint! I came today for brunch with my friend and we both loved it. The decor is stunning, food delicious and they had a DJ that came a bit after we started. The manager Alejandra made sure we were happy as did our waiter who i don't recall his name but he was great too! The mimosas were. 5 stars for sure, everyday without a doubt! Okay since my first experience at Citrico, I've clearly been back many times. The second time was for a friend's birthday which was great and amazing time. They personalized a menu for her and all, so highly recommend for birthdays. The third time was for a Yelp elite event and it was the best night ever, as I got to try some of the amazing dishes on the menu I hadn't tried before aka the most delicious corn ribs ever, fourth time was for a little pre-new year's Eve get together and it was great. Now I returned for a fifth time to get together with a childhood bestie and she agreed that the food and drinks were incredible. GET THE GUAVA MARGARITA and thank me later :) we had such a great server named Lina and she was so sweet. Had the best recommendations too! Honestly this place is amazing. Decor is super inviting, warm, and esthetically pleasing. And, there's a live DJ. Here are the Cons, and the reasons why I will probably not go back. 1. The MINUTE the host sat us... she said "we have a strict seating time... your reservation is for 7pm , you have 90 mins- therefore you should be wrapping up at 8:30pm" I was shocked . The hostess offered still or sparkling (Most of the times in NYC still means TAP water) . It was a surprise when I was billed 10$ / bottle to only hear that they forgot to mention the offer of tap water when we were seated. Ok first it took about 15 mins to get tap water. They asked us if we wanted water and got no water. Next came our server and we still didn't get water. On the third try we finally got water. Now for our order-- Apparently this is a tapas place - no where did they mention this detail. I ordered the butternut squash tacos -- no where on the menu do they mention CHEESE, lots of cheese . My son ordered the steak and eggs brunch item.My husband ordered the filet mignon tacos w a side of rice and beans. Umm his tacos came out first and the sides never came out. The server said that it's a tapa place so orders come out diff times. I'd also like to mention that there was a couple that sat a few mins after we did and they got all their drinks and meals at the same time and all before we did. I am glad Citrico Cafe opened up in Astoria. It may become a new personal favorite. The aesthetic is so gorgeous. Whoever designed the interior for the establishment did an excellent job. Everything made sense, the black mirror, black chandeliers, woodsy furniture, greenery, and gold utensils. As for the actual dining experience, the menu feels a bit limited. It's not extensive compared to other establishments but there are just enough options to choose from. For our spirits, we ordered both the Citrico and Cool Spicy Margaritas. They were good, but I think spicy is better. For our dining experience, we ordered the Tostada de Pescado, Fried Brussels, Shrimp Tacos, Baja Fish Tacos, and Pan Seared Branzino. The Tostada de Pescado was really fresh. It was portioned very well too. I felt like we got our money's worth. The Brussels was savory my only critique is that the acidic element in the dish started to become too much. The shrimp tacos were okay, I felt like I had better. I normally don't like Baja fish tacos but theirs was pretty good. The highlight of the dinner turns out to be the Branzino! I have ordered Branzino in many places and it is always a hit or a total MISS. That is not the case at Citrico's, theirs is very very good. I am looking forward to ordering this again in the near future. Four drinks, five food items, tax, and gratuity totaled to $150 between two people. Not bad at all in my opinion. I left Citrico pleased with my experience and I plan to return for brunch and of course dinner again in the future. Also a word of advice to future diners, be sure to make reservations for this place as word is getting around about them! I wouldn't want you to miss out. UPDATE: I returned and tried the Shrimp Ceviche, Corn Ribs, Royal Tea, and Tres Leches. The Ceviche was portioned well (meaning the shrimp wasn't tiny bits) however, it was a bit too acidic but it still tasted good. The corn ribs are bomb. I think it's a creative play on ribs for a vegetarian option. The flavor profiles are certainly there. You must order when you go no exceptions. This might be my favorite item on the menu. The Royal Tea is made of gin and has hints of lavender but the drink doesn't taste like neither and for that I love it. As for the Tres Leches it was very tasty. read more

They had happy hour at the time so frozen margaritas were $8. The margaritas were perfect! Strong and not too sweet. The oysters and tuna tostado were fresh and tasty. I enjoyed both those dishes but the tacos with rice and beans were hugely disappointing. The tacos looked like they used the store bought hard shells and they just seemed like tacos I can make myself. The rice and beans also looked sad. One time, there was hair in our nachos, it was replaced but no manager came out to address it or offer a discount. as we all know, citrico cafe is stunning! they have a decent amount of seating with the bar area, high tables, and regular seats. the lighting and decor are very instagrammable! the passionfruit drink was delicious, but when it comes it the food, it felt a bit lacking, especially at the price point. the tacos tasted like a level up from Taco Bell, and the portion was really small. the nachos were good, nothing to really rave about but definitely not bad. I wasn't a fan of the corn ribs but my friends did enjoy them so ill leave that up to personal preference (for reference, im not a fan of seafood and these ribs tasted quite fishy; I think they use some sort of fish sauce for it) service was kind and attentive! read more

The atmosphere was really pretty. The service, although friendly, was weird. We were basically ignored and it took about 10 minutes between getting the menu to ordering a drink, another 10 minutes to try and flag down the bartender to order food. It took about 20 minutes to actually be able to get someone to give us our bill. I was literally holding my credit card up at one point trying to flag someone down. My friend and I joked about how we could just leave and no one would notice. I eventually just shouted excuse me for the bill to the bar back and he went to the bartender to tell her. And another 10 minutes rolled by. Our food was dropped off quickly but we had no plates, silverware or napkins. Tried to catch the eye of the bartender who pretty much just avoided us. We instead flagged down anyone in a uniform for plates, silverware, bussing and the bill. It wasn't that busy. It felt very uninviting, especially since the bartender was just speaking to the regulars on the other side of the bar. Food was fine. Id avoid the fish tacos, they were quite mushy and salty. The shrimp tacos were delicious though. There were also so many tiny flies. Maybe we sat at the wrong spot and they hadn't cleaned up a sugary spill? Not sure if they served us expired meat or what happened but this place is currently being investigated for several complaints of food poisoning. Came here yesterday with my friend and the restaurant itself is super pretty, very instagram aesthetic type of vibe if you go before sundown to get a photo. Tulum inspired - so they have decors and it was very cute. Let's start off with the service, our server was extremely friendly and always came to our table to check up on us, gave us more napkins, and was just a sweetheart. Before we sat down though, the man who seems to be the manager or owner was the one who checked off our reservation and when we asked if we can sit somewhere else, he gives us the excuse of "oh there's a party of 10 over there in an hour so I don't want to rush you guys" Ok how about this table? "Oh that's a table of 4 people" so we ended up sitting at the table next to it which was still a good spot but we were there for 2 hours and that table or 4 by the window where we wanted to sit was UNTOUCHED AND STILL EMPTY. So we could've sat there but the man who looked like a manager or owner was being such a stickler with the seating which was stupid because there were so many tables he didn't allow us and another party of 2 to sit because that table is a "party of 4"... so what if we wanted a bigger table and to be closer to the window? Food - the apps we got were delicious. We tried the raw oysters which was super yummy except some of the oyster meat were soo small.. it felt like we were robbed. Like might as well throw away that whole oyster. The drinks we got were also super good. My friend got the horchata martini and I tried the coconut margarita. We also got the chips and guacamole. Too little guacamole and wish it was more or equal to the portion of the chips. The entree was.... the worst. Not that the entree was bad, it tasted great - but the portion and the price for it was horrid. You can get more in the city than this. My friends and I were horrified when we got our birria tacos only to not even look like authentic birrira but the fact it was TWO TINY TACOS FOR AN ADULT WOMAN. Did they think we were kids?! We were still so hungry after that but didn't get any more food but tried their dessert. I recommend if you come here and you're hungry. - do not get the tacos. It comes in two smalls tacos and it is just not worth it. The birria broth also didn't seem like what we were expecting like from actual birria broth. We decided to try their dessert since we were starving still so we tried the horchata donut which was delicious but again - too little ice cream and too much of the donut. They need to portion this better. I'd only come back for drinks and starters. The entrees were not worth it to us and the portioning was just awful. Had to stop by and leave another review to show Citrico some more love! Came on Sunday night for tacos (sorry no pics, we devoured them! Lol), drinks and dessert. Enrique our server, as always, super professional, kind, and patient! I do enjoy the food at Citrico very much, but honestly Enrique makes our experience so much better. We've all clearly gone to restaurants with very good food and not the best service, but there is something about excellent service that always keeps me coming back for more! Citrico offers both, so it's truly a win-win! Just a note to the owners - you are very lucky to have Enrique! I tried a new drink (as I usually have a mezcalita either frozen or on the rocks) called Berry Sotol - wow super delish! Get it! We split the horchata dessert amongst 3 and it was also delicious, definitely worth trying!
