Found this spot while visiting from outta state via FoodNetwork. Was on a show of my favorite celebrity chef, raved about pancakes and soft crab eggs Benedict. Saw on the menu it said seasonal, looked it up and says May-September for the crab.. didn't think they'd be selling It. to my surprise, our server said they did (thanksgiving week) and they were working through the last of it ( sitting in the back of the fridge long enough or not advertising its fresh but frozen) Ordered both the citrus pancakes and the soft shell egg Benedict. I really liked this place for the food and the service! The waitress was really nice and the restaurant itself was clean with a happy vibe. The citrus pancakes were really good and unique. We decided to try them because we know they're famous at this place and I'm happy we did because they were delicious and not your usual pancakes. I was skeptical about pineapple on pancakes but it works! The sausage links were also very good and I'm usually picky about sausages. The Spanish omelette was also really good, the ingredients tasted fresh. I wasn't a fan on the sweet potato biscuit. It tasted a bit dry but it was an interesting concept. read more

We decided to try Citrus for breakfast before heading back home from vacation. We are never impressed with the touristy pancake houses, and their menu sounded great, so we drove out to give it a try. The restaurant itself is gorgeous, very colorful, vibrant, and clean. The menu is full of choices, some standard and some that are unusual. They also have a huge drink menu. We're not big on alcoholic beverages in the morning, but if you are, this place would make your day! I had the jumbo lump crab omelet. It was very fluffy and delicious, though I think there were only 2-3 lumps of crab in the whole thing. Even the toast was good and I could tell it was made with quality fresh bread. My husband had the biscuit topped with chicken and sausage gravy. He really enjoyed it. We weren't thrilled with the service. The servers did their job but they just weren't very friendly. Maybe it's not always that way, or we just had the wrong servers (two stopped at our table), I don't know. Anyway, other than that we thought it was great. I came here today and ordered the lump crab Benedict and an order of citrus pancakes. The lump crab was BURNT...the pancakes were tasteless...and they cost $8. I ordered citrus pancakes and to my surprise there was a $6.00 up charge...making 2 pancakes $14.00....the citrus meal with eggs and two meats is 16.00....the wait staff should advise customers of this and/or put on menu...aside from that both me and my sister did not enjoy our meals...we looked around to see if other patrons were enjoying their meals as well and we noticed a lot of food was left on plates...and no one was getting to go containers. Worst place I've ever eaten. I ordered an omelette and it was literally liquid. No one came to check on us, so we flagged someone down. Multiple people tried to give us excuses. First, it was their egg whites are runnier than both (they're eggs...they are all the same). Then I was told the cheese is softer than most. They wouldn't even refund it all (they gave me 1/2 off because they said I ate half of it - I took ONE bite). Also, they advertise a dog menu and I ordered my dog something off of it and they never brought it. When I mentioned it when I received the bill they said "oh yeah we don't have that." Oh ok, you were just never going to tell me??? This place is rude and awful. Do not go here. EDIT AFTER OWNERS REPLY: 1) Yes she said she may be out of it, but then I asked for the pupsicle and was never told that was out. Took my daughter for her sweet 16 brunch on a Sunday ‍. 40 minute wait ended up going a little bit quicker since we agreed to sit outside. Me and my partner has sherbert mimosas. I've always preferred this location over their other location on W Great Neck but the wait is much longer. This location is newer, bigger and a lot closer. This time around we didn't mind waiting about 45 minutes for a table. Plus we were able to get wait at a table next to the bar and enjoy a couple mimosas. My favorites are the pineapple upside down, colada and the mango cooler mimosa. I have a list of favorite menu items from here: the citrus pancakes, country fried steak and the soft shell crab benedict have all been on rotation for me here. This time around I went with the mango almond croissant, which has never let me down! 4 huge pieces of French toast topped with sweet pieces of mangos and almonds...I dove right in and forgot to take a picture! This was my second time at Citrus, and the first at their Greatneck Road location. I was in a party of two and able to walk right in on a Sunday morning at 10:30. However, by the time we left around 11:30, the place was packed and on a wait. I had the croissant French toast, and it was delicious. It was a generous portion, and included eggs, a choice of breakfast meat, plus grits or hash browns. I couldn't finish it all! So because Yelp doesn't give halfsies on the stars, I'm gonna keep it at a 4 but I'm on the fence.... Today's visit could have brought it down to a 3-3.5. Per usual there was a small wait when we arrived at 11:30 am but it wasn't too long...15 mins tops. Our server Brenan was great. Very pretty, cheery, friendly, and personable. She was in the spirit of St Patty's Day with her green attire and awesome festive socks! I've never been asked my name when dining here or anywhere for that matter (other than to the hostess when taking names down for the waitlist) so I was impressed when she actually used our names to ask for refills or anything. Love that touch!!! She stayed busy and hustling and I doubt it was noher fault but, it took literally FOREVER for our food to come out. Once it arrived though, everything was smooth sailing. I just didn't like having to ask her what the hold up was. I hate doing that but sometimes you just gotta know. We saw 2 tables receive their food after being seated after us! That was annoying. Anyway.... Because it's Lent and I'm on Keto, it did make it a little challenging to figure out what to have. But!!!!! I threw keto out the window on the way over to Citrus because I really, really, REALLY wanted their pancakes so I got the 2 stack Citrus Pancakes (my favorite!) a la cart ($7.99). I also added half an avocado (for a VERY STEEP $2) and 2 Farm eggs over easy (another steep $2.50). The Citrus Shamrock Mimosa was delicious but it's only seasonal for St Patrick's Day. Charging that much for half an avocado, which wasn't even a big half, and 2 eggs is obsene and highway robbery. They should re-think the price points on those 2 items. I'm usually not one to complain about prices but sheesh!!!! Def a place you'll want to bring anyone here but not on a starving stomach - pack a snack for the wait, lol. I've been here twice now and I can fully say that I find this place to just be average at best. Despite having average food, both occasions when I came here were packed with people. The place is aesthetically pleasing and the menu has a lot of variety. Unfortunately the food was quite underwhelming. I got a breakfast burrito that was best described as puny. I've made better at home. Didn't come with any sides and wasn't a satisfying choice for $8. It supposedly had sausage in it, but I don't think it actually did, so it was eggs and cheese in a wrap. As a regular breakfast burrito consumer, the salsa has never been served on the side before. I'm sure other places do it but the best ones out the salsa on it. And the best ones also leave no doubt about what is in it. My friend ordered the BLT with house made chips. The chips were good! The sandwich looked great but was again, disappointing. Staff was ok. The waitress didn't introduce herself and didn't offer up any salutations or suggestions after we told her it was our first time. The bus boy and hostess were super friendly! Definitely one of our go to breakfast spots. Everything is "clean"! Has that modern vibe and vibrant color that keeps you refreshed. The food is always so fresh and clean with a very good simple breakfast all the way up to very elaborate, high end breakfast. The bar has a cool waiting area with excellent drinks. The homemade Bloody Mary mix is awesome! The outside area is very nice as well. We bounce back and forth with other spots but always satisfied when we make it back here. The wait can be long so if you are not enjoying a cocktail, that may seem a bit more exhausting so keep that in mind. Came here with a friend for brunch last week. Sat outside.. I don't know why.. it was so hot outside and the entire time I just wanted to go back inside. Has the heat wave mimosa which was very good but I think after trying so many different brunch spots and mimosas I will finally say that I don't really love mimosas or morning drinks. Ordered the crab lump omelet. I have trust issues with omelets but this one was very good! Did not fall apart at all which is what I love to see! Citrus was recommended by someone at the visitors center so we made the drive and are so happy that we did. We were traveling with a dog so have been on the hunt for dog friendly locations and Citrus is very welcoming. They have 2 large outdoor porches with umbrellas and even have a dog menu. The human menu was huge! It made it extremely difficult to pick, half of our party enjoyed breakfast while the other half enjoyed lunch. Everyone really love their meals. The citrus pancakes were so incredible that someone actually decided against a cupcake and got an order of them instead for dessert after sampling mine. The salad was fresh, the fruit was sweet and fresh. The pancakes were the perfect consistency and not greasy. The soups and sandwiches were flavorful and delicious. We tried a cupcake and a piece of cake and both were insanely good. The only downfall was 1 of the servers who clearly was having a bad day, but unfortunately we were on the receiving end of it. Everyone has bad days though and the other woman who stepped in to take our order was friendly, energetic and so helpful. We look forward to coming back. read more

This updated review is as disappointing as any I can recall. I have not been a huge fan of the new location and expressed such in my initial rating in 2014. Subsequent visits have had it at least on par with some minor issues that did not require an update. Even more difficult I know the owners and talk with them regularly at the original location. I've never seen anyone resembling management and there possibly lies the issue at heart. I will summarize the reason for a one star and the reason I will not return. ~Trash around the perimeter when walking in. ~Trash and food under the floor where we were seated. Food and trash moved over under a dirty table not yet bussed to pick up. Staff person did a half way job on cleaning table and never cleared food, or debris on the seat. ~Waitress gets a star as she smiled and provided specials perfectly. Later in the service no drink refill without asking. Issue with food temperature handled poorly, but I will elaborate the heart of my rating. ~Noticed a waitress holding three plates exiting to patio. Same waitress comes back in and goes to kitchen with same three plates. Minutes later same waitress comes to our table and said they got the wrong table. ~My son immediately reports bacon cold. As I assisted my daughter with pancakes I noticed pancakes barely warm. Son reported same on his pancakes. With it being almost 2:30 and such a late lunch they did not want to wait, so no pushing. My son said I can't eat the other slice of bacon, so I reported to waitress to only find out right then my fries were stone cold. She comes back with a single slice of bacon, okay forget he had two and had to eat a cold slice. My sandwich was the only item at correct temperature. This is what has me saying WTF! Waitress brings an empty plate and ask me to remove cold nasty fries for replacement. I guess some kitchen staffer asked her to do so, or could this be a Citrus policy. All I know is it was as rude as HELL! Did the kitchen need to inspect? Did they think I was trying to get a double order of fries and pull something? No manager came out to check on us. Again this is the heart of the issue. I don't think there is proper over sight of anything at this location. The owners have a tight grip on the original and are seen there every time I visit which now stands at over 60 visits. Around a dozen visits to this one and I have never seen anyone that looks like they're in charge. Bill put on the table without apology from the waitress. $35 with tip down the drain. Citrus is the new second location of an extremely popular restaurant in Virginia Beach--the original is located on Shore Drive. I had bookmarked the first location, but didn't get a chance to visit since it's a bit far for me from Suffolk. When my Yelp friend Clair suggested we meet for lunch at the new Citrus, I was excited to check it out. Citrus was busy at 11 a.m. on a Friday, and we ended up having to wait for about 30 minutes. The building has a pleasing outward appearance, and the interior is bright, open, and sleek. The place was hopping, and because of that, it was quite loud inside. However, the service was fantastic--our waiter did a great job taking care of our needs. At one point, someone asked to take sure we'd been helped; I was definitely impressed. As I usually do, I had looked over the menu online ahead of time, and I knew I wanted to try their infamous Soft-Shell Crab Benedict. (Even Guy Fieri has tried it at the original location.) The Soft-Shell Crab Benedict comes as one whole fried soft-shell crab, two poached eggs, tomatoes and sautéed spinach on an English muffin topped with Hollandaise sauce; it also comes with your choice of hash browns or grits. Since crab is seasonal, make sure you realize you will be getting farmed crab, not fresh, depending on the time of year. While I am a huge crab lover, I had never tried soft-shell crab. Being honest, I was scared, but I am always looking for adventure, so I decided to try it. Guess what? Turns out it's pretty delicious! Everything about the dish was on point except one egg was perfect and the other was too overdone. I loved the Hollandaise sauce, which I don't usually enjoy that much. The hash browns were good, but would have needed some onions (you can add onions and/or cheese to your hash browns). I am giving 4 stars to Citrus because I thought the food and service were wonderful. I would love to go back to try their Pumpkin Pancakes, but I'm not sure how soon I'll be returning.
