We had a meal for 30 catered here at the office. Our host was Tamara. She followed up the day before our meal to ensure accuracy and arrived promptly they day of delivery. Tamara was very friendly and professional in setting up the meal. She knows what she is doing! In addition, the food was delicious! What an amazing experience! My husband and I were in the area for a doctor's appointment and stopped in afterwards. We had missed our son's wedding vendor's tasting earlier and we were just going to order some of the items to try. When I explained it to the young man taking our order (who turned out to be the manager), he made us a wonderful sampler right on the spot. We were amazed by the generosity and attention he gave us. The manager confirmed there was no order under my name and then quickly retained my order over the phone and had it ready 15 minutes later when I arrived at the store. Cashiers were fast and efficient. But I would have appreciated him telling me that 1. Tuesday is Rib Night! and 2. Well for starters you need to reinvent your Mac n Cheese!! It is the most flavorless Mac n Cheese I've EVER HAD IN MY LIFE!! You need to scrap the cheese sauce and use REAL CHEDDAR CHEESE and some butter, spices/seasoning and perhaps some bread crumbs but that is TOTALLY OPTIONAL IN MY OPINION!! The turkey was quite good but the temperature could be much hotter which brings me to my next suggestion which is to equip each kitchen in every store with a microwave so that those of us who are EMPHATICAL ABOUT THEIR FOOD BEING PIPING HOT WILL BE VERY HAPPY AND GIVE YOU 5's on my next survey!!!! I also told her about the iced tea incident with her employee and that was the last thing I will remember leaving this place despite the fact that everything else was pretty good. I told her that " You aren't doing me a favor taking my order. I'm doing you a favor coming here and giving you my business". She apologized about her employee and said she would speak with her which I hope she does!! AS AN ASIDE: In general too many people don't take pride in their work and act like they are there just to do the minimal amount of work just to get by which is unfortunate!! City Barbeque does everything right! My favorite meats are the brisket, turkey, and the half chicken. Outstanding! I don't care quite as much for the pulled pork or pulled chicken---not sure why. Corn pudding, greens, baked beans, hush puppies, vinegar slaw? NOW WE'RE TALKING! Good stuff. Don't care for the mac and cheese, though. Oh, and let's not forget the fried pickles, which are super tasty and crunchy. The staff includes my adorable granddaughter, so I'm assuming everyone there is as accommodating and sweet as SHE is. The staff here is always fantastic. This day they were super busy and the girl who handed me my food did seem a little overwhelmed but she was still nice and got me the ranch dressing I requested without acting like it was inconveniencing her, which is nice. The drink and condiment counter seems to always be in disarray when we come to this location, although it doesn't deter me from wanting to come back. The food is always good and the staff is excellent in my opinion. I used to manage a restaurant for 15 yrs so I am very critical when I go into restaurants, but this location is always on point. The manager who is there most times when I eat here is also very professional and you can tell he really cares about the customers. It's really a breath of fresh air to find a place that not only has awesome food but also offers great customer service! Gave it a try about 5 years ago and it was food not good food just food. Decided after all the new locations and hype maybe they finally learned how to make good BBQ. Sorry it sucked. Having had great BBQ in Texas, Oklahoma and South East USA there is no comparison. You poor people in central Ohio you will never know what good BBQ is as long as this place keeps pushing their stuff. The chicken had a burnt taste and was dry. The beans were hard and the sauce tasted burnt. The Boneless rib sandwich was the same and yet tasteless. Plus it was overpriced. Did like the free dill pickle slices, diet mountain dew as a option and the fresh fries weren't bad. The team working the day I visited was awesome! Professional, friendly and caring to be sure I had everything I needed and things were packed well for my long drive and out of town visitors. The food was excellent and I will be back to try some things the team there recommended I try next time. I especially enjoyed the brisket, turkey, mac & cheese, baked beans, and regular BBQ sauce itself, which is fantastic (reminds me of some great sauces I have had in Texas and Kansas City). Usually the food is good, but it is so unpredictable, since I ordered the ribs and few times I could not get them of the bone tasting like rubber. Does anybody is checking, if the ribs are done or not? When you order the ribs, test if they are cooked, if not take them back. The cashier (April - according to my receipt) was very friendly and helpful. I hoped you had Brunswick Stew but she said you did not. She offered up a sample of your gumbo. I thought gumbo was a little weird for a barbecue place but, was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. (I LOVE good gumbo). Another employee was cleaning up the drink area and helped me find the drink lids and eating utensils. Everyone I came in contact with was very friendly. The pulled pork sandwich I ordered was very good. It seems impossible to find good barbecue anymore. Most places I try don't seem to have "fresh" (on site smoked) meat. Or if they claim it is smoked on site, it still doesn't seem fresh (it is mealy / mushy). City Barbecue truly seemed fresh and had the correct texture. I will try it again. It is always consistent and has solid BBQ - among the best in Columbus. Having BBQ in the south it doesn't really stack up, but it does satisfy my BBQ cravings. Normally I have been extremely impressed with the taste and quality of City Barbeque's offerings. However a recent trip to one of their locations is causing me concern. I am a HUGE fan of their brisket. I ordered a three sandwich sampler on a recent trip and the brisket was virtually inedible. It was thickly sliced and totally dried out. Nothing like it usually is. A waiter brought a replacement that was even worse! The meat actually tasted as if it had been previously chewed. I mentioned this to a friend of mine who said he had the same experience at another location. They have to fix this! The training has to be carefully handed down and quality control is a must or this place will shut down quickly. It will be an avalanche. You get one bad meal and you talk to others about it. You get another and you will talk some more and go there much less. One more and you surrender. I hope they get it straightened out. read more

I have been to City several times but have never written review...ordered 2 lbs of Brisket (crispy ends) with double order of greens and baked beans...I always order the brisket... it has never disappointed, always tender with smoke rings and lean...I like the crispy ends, add to the delicious tender/juicy beef.. greens cooked in broth base, scattering of beef in greens...if you like greens these won't disappoint, as close as you can get to the real thing you find in so many diners and rib joints in the south... beans had a nice smoke flavor with a tangy bite of BBQ sauce, highly recommend ... one of the other perks when you visit City is their condiment bar, 3 types of sauces, sweet, spicy are both top notch... pickles, not sure if they are homemade, but I recommend trying them along with your red onion and jalapeños to accompany your dinner...dinner was $35 (coupon for 2 sides), had it for dinner and finished off brisket following day making brisket nachos!!
