I won't be going back, and I live right down the road! Two things killed it for me (1) PRICE: $25 for 2 meals!?!? This isn't Longhorn Steakhouse. Great brisket, check. Great smoked pork, check. Great ribs, check. I got to try a sampling of some of the food here recently and it was perfectly smoked and awesome. My favorite would be the brisket, it had a great smoky flavor because they really smoke it low and slow with hickory and some how you could still taste the awesome rub they use. The pork ribs are big meaty bite off the bones ribs that don't really need sauce. The pulled pork is just that smokey pulled pork that's not overly chopped or tossed with an sauce(you can do that on your own). I picked up a sandwich for my wife before leaving and she loved it, so much so I didn't even get to try it. It's call "more cowbell" which is a brisket sandwich with grilled onions and peppers, cheese, and horseradish on a buttery roll. I'll be back for more. read more

Oh my oh my city BBQ!!! This is the best BBQ spot in town!!!! The city sampler can feed two to three people. This place will make you over eat!! I ordered the chipotle pulled rib sandwich with cheesy bacon fries. Wow. The fries are delicious. The bacon was well done just like it should be. The chipotle sandwich was on garlic bread and you get 2 of them! I only ate one because it was just a lot of food. The prices are very reasonable for the portions that you get. The potato salad is just like mom's. Super delicious. Tastes homemade. I will be going back tomorrow. Love love love!!! Went here for the first time in Raleigh a couple of weeks ago and got ribs. Came to this location today and got the pulled pork. The pulled pork was great - moist, perfectly cooked, nice crispy ends. The ribs were 50/50. Half of them were tasty but not fall-off-the-bone, and the other half were tough and gristly. They did taste good when you actually could get a good piece without gristle. Overall I'd recommend the pulled pork or brisket. I would not get the ribs again. The baked beans are phenomenal. Drawback: you're charged for each side here; you may be used to some places including 2 sides. The service was nice even though the place was quite busy. read more

I stopped here after church because my coworker had been crowing about how good it was. She was basically right. I have no complaints about the food or prices. I ordered the Lolo pulled pork sandwich with fries. DELISH. I paid ~$10, which seems quite reasonable looking at the portion size. There was so much food! And the fries were so tasty. My only gripe with the whole experience was that a woman had her dogs inside the restaurant- and apparently that didn't bother the workers. My family & I had the chicken and brisket. Having had BBQ all across the SouthEast I'm truly sad to say this was the absolutely worst BBQ I have ever had. The chicken was undercooked with nothing but a little salt rubbed on it, IF it was even smoked certainly wasn't slow smoked long enough to even qualify as authentic BBQ. The brisket was flat out disgusting full of fat and dripping in grease and frankly smelled and tasted like it had been oven baked with a liquid smoke and blowtorch finish. What may have started out as a good idea in 1999 has become overly commercialized mass produced food masquerading as BBQ. One star for the french fries. read more

TERRIBLE!!!! Ordered curbside, got there at specified time and checked in. 15-20 minutes go by, no food. 30 minutes, no food. Finally went in, no one greeted me even though they looked me dead in my eyes. Asked about order, was informed they had just gotten it ready. Asked if it was ready, why wasn't someone on the way out the door with it, as I had not come prepared to come inside. There was one family eating inside and one other person picking up food so there was no excuse. Didn't get a sorry, here's something for your inconvenience or anything. I've gotten take out from city bbq three times now. This last time was the worst. It started when I called and the young lady told me they were out of ribs (which I kind of expect so close to Closing time) then she quickly told me she still had a few orders left. So I ordered Ribs and Beef brisket (a pick 2 platter) and then added two sides, corn pudding and Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was the best tasting thing I ordered. The meat on my ribs tasted like they had been reheated several times and were no long tender or good. My beef brisket was "shaved looking" and it was extremely fatty. My husband ordered double beef brisket and his was not fatty or "shaved looking" but it looked like one portion and for the price it was definitely not worth it. He ordered Mac and cheese and green beans and a large lemonade (I thought the lemonade was fresh squeezed but it tasted like a fountain drink). When he went to pick up the order they gave the last order of green beans to a customer ahead of him that was dining in so he asked for another Mac and cheese. Our bill was $43.00, normally if the food is fresh, tasty and hot I wouldn't complain about the price. I was very disappointed. I do not recommend getting take out close to closing time. We may try City Bbq one more time but we will eat in, to see if it's any different. read more

I've had City Barbeque a handful of times, it hasn't really stuck out as a special favorite for me (but it is for my sister!) among all the NC BBQ places. We picked up a to go order tonight - it was super easy to place the order and it was basically ready when we got there less than 5 min later. We did the Judge's Sampler - love the selection of meat! We also got pint sized sides - the Jacked Mac (I thought was just ok, I tasted the different cheeses but online it looked like it came with jalapeno, which I didn't taste) and the green beans (usually my favorite side dish at country places, but it was a little boring and flatter beans). Also ordered an individual size of corn pudding - wish I did that in a pint, it's so delish!! The sampler is supposed to come with corn bread and Texas toast. I have always thought that City BBQ cornbread tastes like baking soda, so added a note asking if we could replace with hamburger buns. It was indeed, but they did forget to give us the Texas toast :( read more

Excellent BBQ. We will definitely come back. Having two small children we decided to do the family deal. We had pulled pork, with the two sides of green beans and mac and cheese. When we were done with lunch we had enough leftovers for dinner. The pulled pork was excellent with 4 choices of sauce. Unfortunately the only one we enjoyed was the original. The green beans were good with pepper bacon so beware if you don't enjoy a strong pepper taste. The mac and cheese was top notch too. The cornbread was ok, but I prefer sweet cornbread. If you prefer unsweetened cornbread I'm sure you will love it. The staff was wonderful. When we ordered we asked if they had any other types of juice for our toddler and after a very pleasant exchange he offered us free banana pudding. Finally gave this place another try and I was much more impressed than last time. I'm on a low-carb diet, which means I didn't use any of the thick, sweet barbeque sauces, and the meal was still very tasty. I did use a little of the Swine Wine (which I think has some sugar or corn syrup in it) but even without it, the meat was tasty and generally not too dry. My wife and I split the BBQ platter and the standout favorite was definitely the sausage. I could easily just order this the next time I go back. Juicy and savory with a nice kick of black pepper. Pretty good spot to eat. I went here to eat lunch and they're service was pretty fast, they had a good variety of options, and nice portions. It did get busy during the lunch hour so I'd suggest getting there at around 11:30/11:45. It was a little expensive but considering portions, it was reasonable. I had the pulled pork sandwich with baked beans and mac and cheese. I didn't really care for the mac and cheese because it tasted a little like krafts, lacked that home cooked taste like the bbq had. The baked beans were good but a little on the sweet side. I really enjoyed the pulled pork and I loved that they had different options as far as bbq sauce. My hubby and I were planning on dining else where..but when there line was a mile long and it was cold and rainy..we decided to stop in. This is a counter service. So we go up and give the menu a lookie over and decide on pulled pork sandwich for me and brisket for him (he is from Texas). I go for hushpuppies and beans while we gets gumbo and cornbread. We pay for our meal and go sit and wait to hear our name. It doesnt take long before our meal is ready and the hubs gets and picks it up. Everything is served on a big tray..kinda like BBQ tapas! Everything is amazing!!! Oh my word. We gobbled it up and I didnt have room for cake and ended up taking it home. They have a fixings bar with great pickles and swine wine! They have all kind of beers including your standards and new ones. They also have a soda cooler with soda in glass bottles but all they had out at the time was root beer. This is a little pricier that your usual BBQ joint. It was around $30 for 2 sandwiches, 4 sides, 2 beers, and cake. The sandwiches do not include sides (my only complaint). They are $2.19 or 2 for $2.99. The staff is great and friendly and the food is incredible so we will certianly be back soon. read more

UPDATE!!Over priced! I ordered the Smoked Turkey Breast on a bun. There was 2 pieces of moist and flavorful turkey on my sandwich, the bun was small (fist size) and was $8. The fries were $2.50 hot, but had no flavor other than oil. The service was good, but at $12 i can go to Danny's BBQ in Cary and be full. I don't think ill be back. Update: i went back and ordered the same Smoked Turkey, this time on Texas Toast instead of a Kaiser Roll. I also ordered the Corn Pudding and Baked Beans/w brisket! I gave this place another try after a year. I had the driest most tasteless brisket I have ever had in my life yesterday. It was horrible and not edible.The fried okra was soggy. I wish I could have driven back to receive a refund. I would never ever recommend anyone to eat here. My last complaint a year ago received an invisible gift card. Very disappointed! I've heard so many great things about this place. After work I decided to stop and grab some bbq for dinner for me and my boyfriend. The young gentleman that waited on me said the Sampler would feed two people. I also ordered a pint of cole slaw and a side of baked beans and got two sides. And as you can see in the photo this is clearly not going to feed us as there was very little meat!! For the $21.00 I spent for this it should have been way better. And the Brisket is super dry!!
