BEST BBQ IN THE AREA!!! This is definitely my favorite local BBQ joint. Both the pulled pork and brisket are amazing and have a nice smokey flavor that U cannot get at most BBQ places around here. They also have several different sauces to choose from which is perfect for someone like me who likes to pour different sauces on my pork. This is by far my favorite BBQ in Garner, you can get a ton of food for a very fair price. We usually get the sampler with brisket, ribs, chicken, and pork. Man! We were really impressed! We enjoy trying bbq restaurants all over and this place was top notch! The bbq was perfectly cooked and could've been eating without sauce it was so tender. I chose a mixture of the brushfire and cheerwine sauce and that made it even better. Loved the collards and vinegar slaw. Collards great and seasoned with chunks of pork. I added their Eastern bbq sauce (can't remember the name) for a vinegar touch with a kick. The service, they treated us like they wanted us to be regulars and went above and beyond to make it happen. The brisket, the brisket, let me say it again the brisket if you haven't tried it you are missing out. I have eaten many pounds of that and the pulled pork from city bbq. Normally eating here at dinner we ordered lunch to go the other day and I tried the more cowbell Brisket with peppers and onion on grilled Texas toast. Sooooo so good. The only negative I can say is sometimes the run out of what you want to eat, however they always make it right. And the last few times there has been quite a bit much black pepper in the green beans. read more

I moved to Garner, NC from TX in 2006. Since then, I have visited numerous BBQ restaurants near by. I was beginning to think I would never find another quality BBQ restaurant unless I returned to TX. Mikey is awesome! This guy knows how to serve customers to ensure they are repeat customers. We ordered via the website for curbside pick-up. He brought the food to the car - in the rain. Once home, I noticed we'd gotten the food of another customer with a similar name. We called to make them aware, and that's when we encountered Mikey's service. Have been a fan of city BBQ but I have learned when I order something other than pulled pork I am always unhappy today I tried a half chicken it was room temperature at best and for me it was bloody a Definite turn off, I went to the counter to let one of the workers know and they said they were out of half chicken and I could get thighs I did not want chicken instead I asked for pulled pork and asked for a credit for the difference since the half chicken was more expensive I was offered a card for a free half chicken next time I did not want something free I do not like blood on my plate after stopping another worker in the dining room I asked for a refund for the difference In meals it was like pulling teeth and they made sure to charge me for the potato salad I had ordered with my chicken No apology for the experience and an overall lack of care here I was offered the card again for a free half chicken they just don't understand I will not be returning here for chicken or anything else and the free peach cobbler I received as part of the rewards program was the Worst cobbler I have ever eaten I cannot describe the unusual taste, what happened to customer service here ? read more

I went there today order my wife and i some food, waitress misunderstood the order we had to correct it, she was telling me the kids was free today trying to get family customers but what owners don't realize is that to be competitive you have to go down with the prices. I couldn't believe for the two of us it's would have been forty dollars for a regular meal and 2 Extra sides and a tea so how in the world a man want to take his two kids and his wife or one kid and his wife for those kind of prices. I would drop the paying separate for sides and add it to the meal especially since the side is barely enough for a 7 year old. Everytime i come to North Carolina, I'm heading to City BBQ first! The smell of smoked meat when you walk in is addicting and if it wasn't for my stellar self control I'd be in here every day. So far my favorites are the ribs and pulled pork l. The brisket is delicious as well however it can sometimes be a bit much. Sides are always good aswell and they are very generous with their portions. Expect to spend about 15 to 20 dollars for a solid meal. 10 out of 10 recomend. read more

Pulled pork was decent but definitely needed the various bbq sauces we added for flavor. The potato salad tasted ok but was super wet (heavvvyyy on the mayo). The brisket baked beans lacked brisket (lol) and just tasted like bbq sauce. The corn pudding was delicious and buttery. The free peach cobbler from our app reward was sooo salty. I'm not sure how this is even possible, but I guess this is their recipe. All in all it was okay. Every time we come to this location we are left completely stuffed and very happy! We love the staff. They are always helpful and friendly, even when we are being pains in the a** about changing our minds. They offer suggestions and samples if you're unsure about a side. There is always one or two of the wait staff out in the lobby busing tables or cleaning up, making sure there is a clean place to sit. And with the amount of business at any given time, it is needed and appreciated. I don't think you can go wrong ordering here, though my favorite is the pulled pork and pulled chicken, vinegar slaw or potato salad, and you can't leave without an enormous slice of chocolate cake. I have never had Worse food in my life! Being from TX I understand that brisket can be hit and miss but Every frikin thing on their menu? Across the board everything was incredibly salty, the kind of salty that hurts your mouth and I'm a smoker. I got brisket, sausage, collards and even the collards which were heavy vinegar (which is new to me) but bloat your a$$ salty. K, So salty that when I took a bite of a pickle it was Refreshingly unsalty! I'm not joking here. The brisket was dry and with the exception of salt had no flavor. I pressed down on the brisket with my finger and the meat just mooshed down to a solid splat. I went on a Saturday prime dinner time around Garner time slot. Can I just say YUMMY!!!! We went today for my husbands birthday lunch. The customer service was fantastic. The young lady helped me with my app. We received a complimentary piece of chocolate cake. Jordan from City BBQ was a great contact point smoothing over the roughness from our first vist, so we went back. Ordered a Deluxe Sampler Platter, a few chicken 1/2 white plates this time. The chicken was on point. Tender, done just right to be juicy without that nasty texture most places wind up with. I recommend the partial chicken over the pulled. Brisket was good, flavourful and slightly tough, but way better then the first visit. The pulled pork was okay, tender but not much flavor, so we drowned it in the Swine Wine and it was good. With the variety of sauces this isn't a bad thing. Just be aware if you think you're getting vinegar BBQ. Fries came fresh, we had to wait on them, saw them come out of the fryer, but they were way undercooked, we wound up eating a handful and leaving a basket full. For the cost of cheese fry baskets that's a big hit to take and leave on the table for something as simple as fries. I'd have understood more if they were packed and rushing fries out, but at 5pm on a FRIDAY, and to be maybe 30% full, it makes no sense. The ribs knocked off the rest of the points. Last time it was the brisket that was dry, which is easy to happen, I screw up brisket all the time, lol. Just alittle too long and its a wash, so brisket being tough is understandable. These ribs though, they looked like award winners. Perfect bark, perfect color.... But I couldn't rip them apart with my hands, much less turn a bone. I got a butter knife, and even then I had to saw through them, I gave up and used my pocket knife. The top quarter inch or so was like leather, almost beef jerky like. Flavor wise it was great, but rib bark shouldn't be like chewing beef jerky! Underneath was better, but still tougher than brisket, still nearly impossible to get the meat to separate from the bones. Closest thing I can get to comparison would be very well done steak. That's not ribs. I saw a few other tables with the same problem, but then a table where they were eating perfect ribs, so maybe 3 racks just got screwy somehow. Since they're half racks though, whomever cut them up had to see how tough they were, they never should've made it on the line. The seating policy apparently isn't being enforced, but there's signs up as you walk in asking not to seat until youve placed your order. I still don't get this. They're in a stand alone building, you're not going to come in there unless you're going to spent good money, probably averaging 10$+ a person. Why even post that? If it's that important to your seating model, remove access to the dining room until youve gone through the order Corral. I demolished and rebuilt restaurants, then reopened them in the 90s, this is still just poor handling of the line. You wind up annoying a person's family in line, because then they all stand there while mom/dad pays/orders. It just makes annoyance where theres not point to do so. You may only wind up with 1 out of 30 seeing it and being miffed... But that'll be the whale with the huge order you want to endear the place to. Overall we will probably be back for a final time in a few weeks to give it one more shot and make our final decision if it'll be a once a week stop, or a once a year visit. Jordan generated a lot of good will, and I've steered many special Olympics families in there to say thank you for their support to our county from our emails. I feel like they're still learning in the store, and could use a reevaluation for how their labor is handled to make sure the food quality stays consistent. This is what we ordered for our Thanksgiving this year! We decided to save a Turkey and ordered their Pulled Chicken with 'Bama Sauce, a Rack of succulent fall off the bone Smoked BBQ Ribs, and their Smoked Beef Brisket. At home, we made all of the traditional Thanksgiving sides. It was a huge success! I called in our order 2 days before, and they opened from like 7:00am until 11:00am for Thanksgiving morning pickups. I arrived promptly at 10:00am as I said I would and they welcomed me in and prepared my order fresh. The Staff was wonderful, everyone was in good spirits and helpful. They still had other sides and drinks to offer that morning so I purchased a gallon of their Sweet Iced Tea as well. This may be a new Thanksgiving Tradition for me, and it made for great sandwich leftovers! read more

All I can say is WOW. This is my first time visiting this establishment but after today this will certainly not be my last time. I had take-out today but I will definitely dine-in next time so I can enjoy my meal with a beer or two. Today I had a two-meat plate with pulled pork and brisket. The portions were great for my money. (I hate going to the likes of Dickeys BBQ and getting a double meat plate and still being hungry afterwards) but City BBQ filled me up and I still had extra to save for later. The pulled pork at City BBQ was moist and flavorful, with a hint of smokyness. The pulled pork honestly didn't need any barbeque sauce, but I loved that they had tomato-based bbq sauces to dip it in as an option and to add that extra "kick" that I like. This was very refreshing for me because I actually hate the vinegary-based NC-style barbeque like one would get from Smithfield's Chicken and BBQ, and I'm from NC! The brisket was very moist and very seasoned. I didn't need any sauce for that. I was a tad bit disappointed that I had to buy my sides separately but after tasting the "green beans with bacon" and "baked beans with brisket" I can see why they charge for those separately. It's because the sides are good in their own right. The green beans tasted exactly like the homemade green beans my grandfather used to grow in his garden. And the baked beans... just delectibale.. sweet, smoky, spicy all-in-one! My wife had smoked chicken and macaroni and cheese. She didn't care too much for the macaroni and cheese or the sweat tea l (and neither did I after tasting a sample), but the chicken was excellent and she agreed!!! I tried a piece of hers and it was very moist.. not at all dry and was seasoned to perfection. The bbq sauce was the icing on the cake. I do think City Barbeque will soon need larger seating capacity if they keep making the food taste as good as it does. This absolutely blows Dickeys BBQ and Smithfields out of the water. But honestly I dont even think you can compare because City BBQ is unique in itself and I'm glad it is. My parents were in town and we had planned to go to Dickey's BBQ in Raleigh. Since City BBQ was closer we decided we would check it out. Unfortunately we were disappointed. We got a variety of foods and NOTHING was even warm. All of our food was room temperature. Ribs were tough & 1/4 chicken was dry. The dining room is set up for parties of 4 and under. We had 6 people and had a difficult time finding a place to sit until someone got up so we could put 2 table together. The only person who really enjoyed their meal was my youngest daughter who got Fried Chicken Tenders. Sad when the most enjoyable thing was not even a BBQ item!!! From now on we will just keep driving and head on up to Dickey's in Raleigh! read more
