I'm not a huge fan of City Barbecue but came through for a group work lunch. Nothing wrong with City Barbecue but I've been spoiled with barbecue from Texas and it's set some high standards for me. We were a group of eight and the cashier was friendly and took out orders quickly, we even got our food in a timely manner. I ordered the Texas Rueben and it was good but there was barely any Texas aioli sauce and the Cole slaw wasn't the best. The hush puppies were overcooked and the potato salad was the better flavored item I had.

Tried this place out and it was pretty good! I absolutely love the outdoor seating available here. I do think the prices are a bit high for the quality of the food, but still was a great dinner. The service was wonderful and very fast.

This was my first time visiting City Barbeque, and I wasn't very impressed. We ordered the Motherload, which included beef brisket, pulled pork, turkey, two sausages, half a slab of ribs, half a chicken, six sides, and cornbread. With three of us, there was plenty of food to go around and lots of leftovers, but the quality was just okay. I've had much better BBQ in other states, and Indiana BBQ just doesn't seem to measure up. I typically don't go looking for good BBQ, but since living out in Nebraska, one fell on my lap, and I couldn't get enough. And I won't say no to good food even if it's not my typical favorite. Good food is good food, and it'll get people coming back. This is not good food. The food lacked seasoning, the meat was on the dry side, and the ribs were tough--they definitely didn't fall off the bone like they should. It's safe to say they're not winning any BBQ awards anytime soon. I see now that one Yelper called their ribs, "drier than popcorn farts". Honestly, accurate. The other meats were better, but still no wow factor to anything. On a positive note, the staff member who took our order was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant itself, however, was surprisingly empty for 6 p.m. when most places would usually be busy. It was quiet. One person working on a laptop, and a couple of other casual diners. Overall, it wasn't a memorable experience.

    Lunch was great !! 2 - 2 Meat Combos.

Fantastic location, service, options, and dining area. My oldest and I was in town for the weekend and stumbled upon this establishment shortly after landing. The menu was sooo great w so many options. My son and I devoured our food. It was sooo good and we even had leftovers !! Those leftovers sure came in handy too !! I couldn't leave w/o purchasing one of their delish sauces!! Two were my fav. I chose Brush Fire !! Great Choice !! We will certainly return the next time were in Indianapolis!!

I wanted to hug someone, the food was SO GOOD!! The staff is very friendly and genuine. The decor is beautiful and very peaceful to dine in. My oldest and I decided to eat City BBQ today and what a blessing it was to sit down, slow down and enjoy a great meal together! I got pulled pork, Mac n cheese and coleslaw, delicious! The sweet tea and lemonade combo is the best. And their peach cobbler hit the spot too. I highly recommend eating here.

I saw the sign for City BBQ and thought "I bet they have some great gluten free options" and I was right. They have many meats and sides sans gluten. I ordered the two meat option and chose the brisket and ribs as my meats. For sides I opted for the potato salad and coleslaw. The brisket was a home run! Great texture and flavor. The ribs were also good. I wasn't a huge fan of the sides (especially the coleslaw). I would ordered something different the next time. I also wished they would have left the bread out or asked if I would like something else, since I wasn't able to eat it.

City Barbeque is located between Oscar Robertson Blvd and 10th St, west of Doctor MLK Jr St near the in the Ransom Place area of Indianapolis in the West Side Shoppes center, very close to the IUPUI campus. IUPUI students: City Barbeque gives a 10% discount, just show them your Crimson card. Also, you can use your Crimson card to pay which is pretty rad. (I don't go to the school, I just found out about it and wanted to share ) City Barbeque has plenty of seating inside as well as outside. There's a mixture of bar height tables, lower height tables, booths, and bar seating facing the street. They have a variety of bottled soda to chose from in addition to the standard fountain drinks. Foodwise, there's a ton of different choices to select from. You'll have no problem finding something that you'll quickly enjoy. There's a lot of local sports teams represented on the walls or hanging from the rafters. And, they've got a party/event room dedicated to IUPUI Jaguars, the Jag Room. They have about 4 or 5 different sauces to add onto your food, as well as some packet sauces. I went with the Judge's Sampler and I was NOT disappointed! Everything was so juicy and full of flavor. The judges sampler included brisket, pulled pork, 1/4 chicken, half slab, two sides, and two cornbread. The staff was super friendly and very welcoming from the moment I walked in, during the meal, and on my way out. I'd say it's a must stop place to eat at!

My fiancé and I always look for good BBQ when traveling. This happened to be our pit stop on Memorial Day. It was mid afternoon when we arrived and happened to be a bit slower due to the holiday. However, the cashier was incredible and helped us out with any questions we had. We ended up ordering their Three meat combo with two sides. I will have to say their pulled pork was incredible with flavor! The chicken was also good but the brisket was not my favorite. We ordered their texas toast which was great along with French Fries that we're cooked perfectly! Lastly, the green beans were good but nothing crazy to hype about. Overall our experience was a great one and we would stop again when traveling through town! Be sure to try all of their dipping sauces. Forgot to add their lemonade is refreshing!

Lilo's pulled pork sandwich, Mac and cheese, and baked beans. So #yummy! #ReviewsByRL

I used to eat at this location more often when I worked downtown, but now don't really get over here, so it's been quite a while. Same menu as other locations, lots of interior seating. Friendly staff. Had my favorite, the Lilos, which is pulled pork sandwich with slaw on it. Mac and cheese and baked beans for my sides. Good portions and always a #yum. #ReviewsByRL

Got half rack of ribs. The were not baby back ribs. They were spare ribs. The cartilage was terrible. They were drier than popcorn farts. They were the worst ribs i ever had. I have made ribs for years. I just wanted a beak from cooking. My mistake. Don't buy ribs from here. Waste of money. The fries were cold and limp not crisp. They were terrible. I do not recommend this pace. Terrible food. I do not recommend this place. Keep driving past this place I have no idea how this place is still open.

I got my order to go but the gentleman who took my order was kind enough to offer me a cup for some water. The spot was happening. Music, good vibes, the decor was fun. I couldn't decide which meal I was trying so I'm definitely going to make another trip sometime soon. I got the tenders with mac but added a side of greens. Boy oh boy the greens were the star and wow my tastebuds were incredibly satisfied. I've had greens but these were like some ultimate flavors and holy greens i definitely could just order some of these every now and again by themselves. Mac was great. Definitely complimented the greens. The tenders though omg. The flavor was insane. I gotta try them with the waffles next time for sure. Overall the wait wasn't long and my food was still hot. I ended up sharing with my son and he was even raving about it. Great service, fun and lit atmosphere, last but not least food was fire. Side note: people complain about price but I'll be honest, when the food is good and staff are amazing, the price to me doesn't matter. It honestly hurt to see all that chicken go directly into the garbage, but they claim it was inedible. Since it's not a saucy type of flavoring, but a dry rub, they said that the heat was painful, and not flavorful. Back to the sandwich I enjoyed... I felt that there was a sweetness to the flavor that I liked, which I could see not everyone enjoying. There is also a hot dusting over the french fries which exacerbates any discomfort people are having from the heat. There really wasn't anything to cool it down. The macaroni and cheese was piping hot, although not spicy.

I always order the Cuban when a new restaurant has one on the menu, and Big Lug's did not disappoint. It was juicy, flavorful, and one of the better Cubans I've had in a while. On my second visit, I went with the blackened cod tacos on corn tortillas (you can also get flour tortillas, and they offer shrimp and breaded fish options). They were fresh, perfectly seasoned, and absolutely delicious. Both visits I ordered the spicy garlic cauliflower, and it was outstanding. The homemade blue cheese dressing took it to another level. If you're on the fence about ordering it, don't be--it was one of my favorite things on the menu. The outdoor walk-up bar creates a really cool, laid-back atmosphere, making it a great place to relax whether you're meeting friends or just enjoying a meal by yourself. The staff was friendly, the service was excellent, and both meals came out quickly. I don't usually eat at the same restaurant twice on a trip, but Big Lug earned it. We sat right in the middle of the main thoroughfare and were completely ignored for at least 15 minutes before we finally flagged someone down. The guy, "H," apologized and said, "Oh, my bad--it's all good." We figured, no big deal, let's move on. We ordered pretty simple food, apps and were then going to put in some entrees once apps arrived. We asked for waters and a water bowl for our pups. He brought two waters--with no straws--and no dog bowl. We assumed he was going to grab the bowl, so we waited... and waited. Then I noticed him at the end of the bar leaning against some boxes, texting. So I finally got up, interrupted him and asked for the dog bowl. His response, "oh my bad." Our appetizers came out, and naturally, we asked for silverware. A few minutes later, I spotted "H" in the corner on his phone again. At that point I was thinking, seriously?! So I got up again, interrupted "H's" text convo and asked for silverware. His response again was, "Oh, my bad." I didn't respond to him I just turned around and went back to my seat. Honestly, the whole experience started feeling more like a self-serve restaurant than table service. It's a chill spot and we weren't being needy whatsoever. We never asked for any refills- we were merely asking for the basics. We wanted to order more food, but by that point we were pretty turned off and decided to just get the check. Then came the final straw: my guy had his license and credit card sitting on the table because he hadn't brought his wallet out for our monon trek. When "H" came back with the checkout thing, without question or hesitation - he grabbed the card and swiped it. We didn't even realize what happened until afterward. Maybe that's standard there, but I've never had a server just take my card without asking. Usually you get a "hey do we want to use this card? Or something to confirm. And of course the tip structure is skewed so the min is 20% unless you want to try to figure out to manually enter in 15% (which most ppl don't -incl my guy), so we left 20% and left irritated and still hungry. "H" didn't seem hungover or anything--he just genuinely seemed like he did not not give a shiiiit. We had to get up three separate times to get things we had already requested: the dog bowl, a couple straws, and silverware. (Basics) And a quick note on the 7-Layer Hoss Dip: don't expect seven layers. It comes in a small thick ceramic bowl and was basically beans, guacamole, a tiny bit of corn and some hard cheese on top. Definitely would not recommend it. Way too "beany" and not worth $16 at all. The southwest rolls were decent- very fried tho. Cheesecake Factory's are better ;) The location and dog-friendly atmosphere are great, with the exception of the homeless camp right at their patio entrance, but unfortunately, the service really took away from the experience. Hopefully this was just an off night, because Big Lug has a lot going for it.
