What a great experience! Our Guide Aaron was knowledgeable, funny, chill and easy-going guy. We were visiting from out of town and was happy to see many people from the Boston-area participating in this tour as well. We went from a well-known brewery, Sam Adams, then got to go to other breweries lesser known and got to meet the brewer (rare!) but it was actually our favorite part of the tour seeing the newer breweries and enjoying the atmosphere and brews they've created for us. This is a tour sure to please everyone's palette even the beer-drinkers that typically only go for the lighter tasting beers. Myself- I woulda never tried or even thought to try many of those that we were able to taste and was pleasantly surprised by many of them and definitely opened my pallette to being a more adventurous beer drinker going forward. The spot of lunch was perfect! Food was ready for everyone when we got there and also was paired with more beers! Everyone (group of 14) ate everything up so I'm sure it was a big hit all around ! I was able to book this tour last minute and it was the best choice! Our tour guide, Andrew, did a wonderful job showing the group around the breweries. We were able to try a large variety of beers including a sour beer. The tour allowed us to go back into the brewery of three different establishments. Night Shift, Mystic, and Slumbrew brewery were allll fantastic and gave us plenty to sample. Best part, pretzels halfway through the adventure. A group of 12 took the tour last night. We went to NightShift, Beer Works, and Slum Brewing. The tour guide was nice and informative. He did seem to continuously rush us through the different breweries. The one big issue we had was that our tour guide rescheduled our dinner to a different location without informing us. Additionally, the menu was already selected so you were unable to pick and choose what you wanted to eat. We really liked NightShift but could have done without the other two. Not sure I would pay the large price tag again, but definitely interesting. read more

We spent the day on a Boston Brew Tour, and I have mixed feelings about the tour. We certainly had fun. Its a great day, and you get to see the brewing process, and also what happens when beers get from the breweries to a restaurant. Our tour was booked online with a time listed from 10-3. The day before the tour I checked the website and the time changed to 12:00 noon with no notification. I have printed confirmation pages showing the time being 10 - 3. The tour guide is supposed to call you the day before the tour to give you an official pickup time. By 8pm the night before the tour, I had not been called. I emailed and left a voice message. I received a reply to my email later in the night, telling me the time of pickup was 11:30. This confirmed that the time of the tour had been changed without notice. I asked about it and got no explanation. Then at 12:30 midnight, I received a text message changing our pick up time again. So we were picked up at our location and our tour began at Harpoon. Our tour guide Chad was great at explaining things about the City as we drove to the breweries. It was an extremely hot (92 degrees!) day and I must say that although the van had air conditioning, it was not helping. We were all hot, and sweaty in the van. It may have been helpful if when it was nearing time to get back in for our next stop, that the Van was running and cooling off before we get in. Beer drinking and hot weather makes for a nice headache! It also may be nice for the van to offer water bottles. Lunch at Mead Hall was probably the best part of the tour. The food was Amazing, and most of it is actually made with Beer. The tour of the basement of this restaurant was interesting to see how beer goes from brewery to your bar taps, and what is required to maintain a perfect tasting beer. Overall this was fun, but my other complaint is the price. I'm not sure what we are paying $85 for. After doing a little research, ALL of the breweries we visited are FREE to tour and sample. I'm sure that lunch didn't even come close to costing half of that price either. Also, as previously stated, I think that the tour should offer bottled water to the guests in the van, especially in the warmer months, as well as the tour guide setting a time to be back at the van and running the vehicle to allow it to cool off. If you don't, you are going to have people passing out in July and August especially after drinking all day. read more

This was easily the best thing we did on our vacation to Boston. While the sites are great, the Boston Brew Tour was such a more personal, fun, and educational experience. I do have to say that while the beer was great and the locations were clearly picked by experts, the most fun part of the tour was the energetic and knowledgeable guide, Liam! We couldn't stump him no matter how many questions, plus his take on Boston history and beer is so much fun to listen to. I'm excited that there are so many different tours offered by this company. Allow me to begin by saying, Yelp, I wish there was an option for '0 stars'. Now normally I would never be so harsh as to revive my Yelp account which I have not written a single review on since signing up in 2013, however Boston Brew Tours is the exception. After booking an 'After Hours Brew Tour' for my boyfriends birthday we were notified that the tour was being canceled as the minimum capacity had not been met. The website clearly states that if the minimum capacity is not met on a tour that it will be canceled. Therefore, I was understanding in the company's attempt to switch our tour date and or time. It was currently Thursday night and I was offered a tour either the same day as my original booking in the morning (Saturday) or the following day (Sunday) in the morning. As we are out of state and work the next day tour was impossible to attend. I let the receptionist know that I would call back once I knew if the tour during the morning on the original date would be possible for us to attend. Now here is where I have an issue with Boston Brew Tours. I sent an email later that night, as the office is only open until 10PM. The email stated that I will be able to take the seats during the morning tour. I received an email the next morning from BBT saying that they would be in touch- they weren't. When the afternoon came around I finally called to ask if we had gotten the seats to which they replied "No, I'm sorry there is only one seat left." Just to clarify... they had already offered me these seats. I continued on the phone with the receptionist on the other end explaining that we were out of state, had booked a very expensive hotel specifically to be close to the meeting place and that this was a birthday gift which our whole trip was booked around. And again I will remind you I WAS OFFERED THESE SEATS AND THEY WERE GIVEN AWAY. The woman pulled the typical "my hands are tied" tactic and when I asked if there was any way to reform the situation such as a private tour she laughed and told me that would cost $1300... original tickets are $95 per person. Overall, this review stems from the complete lack of customer service I received when attempting to reform the situation Boston Brew Tours had created. Moral of my story? Don't tell your customers they have a seat on a tour bus if they'd like, and then give it away. It's just bad business. read more

My wife and I recently took the Original Tour with Chase as our tour guide. Chase was very knowledgeable with the beers as well as the city itself. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who enjoys beers and even if you're new to beer this is a great tour to get introduced to different beers. I had the opportunity to take the tour on 11/12/13, and had a great time! Chad was a fantastic tour guide, providing an excellent combination of beer history and humor throughout the entire tour. First, we went to the Sam Adams Brewery in Jamaica Plain, where we went on a "traditional" (guided) tour. From there, we headed over to Mead Hall in Cambridge where we had a delicious lunch, some tasty brews, and a behind the scenes tour of their keg room. After we wrapped up at Mead Hall, we went to Everett to check out Night Shift Brewing (my favorite!), then to Chelsea to visit Mystic Brewing. After all that, I was dropped off within stumbling distance from my apartment ("stumbling" being the operative word- the samples are plentiful!). I'd recommend this tour to anyone (unless you don't like beer, but then we probably wouldn't be talking to each other) from folks visiting Boston to longtime residents. The breweries we visited were diverse enough that it didn't feel like you took the same tour four times, and our tour guide was definitely a useful resource in terms of getting us the "rock star" treatment at each of our stops. My sister and I were recently in Boston and decided to do the Boston Brew Tours as a way to see the city & enjoy some of the craft beers without having to make the decision on where to go ourselves. I knew this would be a good tour based on Yelp! and Trip Advisor reviews, but I really was blown away at how great the tour was! I loved the selection of breweries because they really did exhibit the different styles and sizes of craft breweries. Out guide, Andy, was very gregarious and definitely enhanced the overall experience. Probably the only disappointment with the tour was that I discovered some fantastic beers & cider, but won't be able to regularly enjoy them since they are sold exclusively in New England : ( Since different brewery tours are done depending on which day you go, and the beers will vary as well, I feel like it's a tour that I could take again & still enjoy just as much as I did this time! read more

There are aspects of this tour I enjoyed and parts I did not. Enjoyed: I learned a lot about beer and I didn't have to drive myself to various breweries. Cons: I could have saved $200 by driving myself to various breweries to enjoy complimentary tastings. I wouldn't have had to listen to my tour guide's political rants about "fat cats" & supporting America (which I am all about) to walk out to the gift shop and find all the brewery tee shirts are made outside the USA...just contradictory to me. I gave 3 stars because I did enjoy the brewery tours, found out about some small local breweries I hadn't heard of and the appetizer lunch was pretty good. Overall, being in a group & being driven around Boston to drink, is going to be a good time. So, I'm just going to highlight a couple of quibbles: 1) If you want to visit certain breweries, you MUST pin them down for the itinerary for the day & time you're going. We thought we'd be stopping at Nightshift...Nope! 2) They snuck in a stop to a distillery, "Short Path"....Ummm, we're here for beer!! Not rum or gin. 3) Lunch @ Mead Hall...everyone gets a tasting plate and you order 1 beer of your choice. I thought this was a lost opportunity. I really think they should put together a flight of beers, to match up flavor profiles to pair with the different foods. TWO Tips: Beware of guides/drivers playing "ignorant" as to the included gratuity for groups of 4+....they maybe fishing for additional Cash tips. I took this tour a few weekends ago for my buddy's bachelor party. It was a blast. Our guide, Jake, was awesome and well-informed. The tour itself was very interesting, ranging from Harpoon's massive operation to Idle Hands' nanobrewery, with a stop at the Mead Hall for a great lunch and a look at how you manage to keep 100 beers on tap. Holy crap! If you're looking for a good way to spend a Saturday in Boston, then you have found it with this brew tour. You basically hop in a van and drive around Boston and Cambridge visiting the best beer themed sites in the area. We got picked up by Hynes Convention Center by our tour guide, Jake. He had already picked up the rest of the customers, so off we went to Sam Adams for the first tour. On the way, Jake explained all about the day, and told us about the history of beer in the area. He definitely did his research because he seemed to know his history well. The rest of the day was full of beer, laughs, and good company. We quickly bonded with the rest of our tour, and soon it felt like we had all come together. Jake kept the facts about Boston and Cambridge coming as well as we traveled from Sam Adams to Harpoon. The Harpoon tour was just as good as Sam Adams, as we drank beer and learned from the experts at both places. Lunch was a delicious beer pairing at Mead Hall in Cambridge, which has an incredible selection of beer on tap. We even got to see the keg room and tap system. The final stop was a short walk to Cambridge Brewing Company for a final beer tasting before Jake offered to take us all the way back to our apartment. Helpful tip: At Sam Adams, sit at the back of the benches. All of the left over beer will make its way to you. read more

Toured the keg room downstairs, very neat and private, something you'd never get to do on your own *Idle Hands in Everett; really quaint up and coming brewery; the owner himself spoke with us about his beer, another souvenir glass #winning *Night Shift: my fav. spot; got to go onto production floor and see people working, actually making beer, so neat. 5 different samples, such tasty concoctions. 4oz samples are available afterwards for $2.50. Despite the 6 foot tall snowbanks, Andy drove like a boss and got the 14 of us there in one piece. Really fun group and an amazing activity for someone who LOVES beer! read more
