My wife and I came here for dinner for our anniversary, and we had a fantastic experience. Everyone there was friendly, and our server--- Timothy--- was attentive without being intrusive. We both started with the Four Onion Soup. She had the filet with spicy bechamel and the lobster mac and cheese; and I had the lamb chops, which was one of the specials. They came served with a blueberry-blackberry demi glace and mashed potatoes. Both entrees were cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious. This review is for the City Post Chophouse Speakeasy. After a COMPLETELY awful dinner experience upstairs in the restaurant (see my restaurant review), we decided it couldn't get worse and kept our reservation downstairs in the Speakeasy. What a joke. We were taken downstairs in the elevator which opened adjacent to the "cigar lounge" which evidently has zero ventilation for keeping the smoke contained. The door was open a crack and the smell of smoke permeates the entire Speakeasy. We were shown to our seats which were next to the stage. That would have been nice if there had been anyone performing. Which there wasn't. On a Saturday night. As another review stated, there was one bartender working so it took some time to get our drinks which turned out to be average. Left after one drink as the place is smoke filled, dingy - easily the worst Speakeasy I've ever been to. I've always loved the concept of a Speakeasy - this one totally failed to deliver. The Round Rock and Georgetown area do casual restaurants really well, but special event dining is lacking, but now City Post Chophouse fills the void with amazing steaks, lobster roll, and pork chops to name a few as well as craft cocktails, and a building with a great story. The old post office still has many of the mailboxes. There is also a gift shop for snacks and other foodie items, not to mention the butcher shop and oyster bar. Get a reservation early though, because they do book up quickly, but it is worth it, and don't miss the amazing lunch menu! read more

If you want a good date night, look no further. My wife and I came in for lunch and really enjoyed ourselves. Our food was sublime. I started with a cocktail that was so good I asked for the recipe, which our fantastic waiter gave to us. We split a kale salad and my wife ordered the steak and French fries. I ordered the burger. The method of cooking, the Argentine grill gave the burger a really nice smoky finish that wasn't overwhelming. You could also taste it on the steak. The quality of the ingredients made it one of my favorite burgers that I've had. The kale salad was all kale which normally could give it a bitter flavor but it wasn't. The Parmesan dressing on the side was also very pleasant and interesting. Desert was a yellow cake and our waiter described the chefs goal of being "simple but excellent and I would say this was exactly that. It was not a Betty Crocker box of yellow cake by any means. Out of everything there I think the service was the best part. Our server was Alexandra and she was attentive without being oppressive. I worked in the service industry and will admit she was twice the server I ever was. She anticipated, she was incredibly knowledgeable about almost everything in the restaurant. Answering my questions and like I previously stated even going as far as giving me a drink recipe. She took my leftover fries and stored them in a to go box. When I went to eat it at home I noticed the box was heavy. They had given me a mini glass bottle of ketchup with it! It made our day and I will definitely be coming back if not becoming a member. Gorgeous Blonde and I thoroughly enjoyed this place. We entertained a newlywed couple and received extra special treatment from Chef Andre and his magical cake decoration styling. Blonde and I shared Sole, salad, and many apps. The lobster bisque was best ever. Sarge enjoyed fantastic lamb chops while the new Mrs. had delicious shrimp. Service impeccable. The Restaurant: I love buildings that used to be other buildings. The repurposing, reimagining and recycling; while still keeping remnants of what used to be, is kinda beautiful to me. City Post Chophouse's story began in the 1930s when it used to be an actual Post Office during the Depression and Prohibition era. What I love is that the restaurant, in 2022, has kept the same feel of the old building and even some of its trinkets (check out the locker keys on the wall). And now to my visit. The Dress code/ service/ Vibes I was in Austin visiting my best friend in celebration of our 21st year of friendship. When she extended the invite to CPCH, I was a little nervous that I wouldn't have a nice enough outfit to wear to a fine dining experience. However, when I checked their website, I saw that the dress code is, "Texas Formal," meaning that, what I brought with me--a nice (collared) shirt and jeans--was appropriate. Once inside the restaurant, we were greeted warmly. We were a bit early for our reservation but we were seated after only a five min or so wait. While we waited, my friend spotted her server from the last time she visited, Alex. She came over and chatted with us, gave us some recommendations and told us the Chef special for the night. She was so nice and knowledgeable, I could tell she was a great server and my friend confirmed it. Once seated we were introduced to our server, JP. After meeting both Alex and JP, I GOT IT. You can tell a lot about an establishment by the staff they hire. These people are specifically hired and trained to not only provide top notch service but, more importantly some might say, to promote and foster the "vibe" of the place. The vibe I got was friendly, knowledgeable, but low-key and not hovering; laid back, relaxed and an upscale attitude without being bougie and stuffy. Those words not only describe our excellent server JP but also CPCH itself to a tee! Food: CPCH prides itself on its oysters and steaks. I don't eat red meat but those Oysters were out of this world. We ordered two oyster platters and devoured them. Pro tip: I'm a oyster purist and usually just use lemon; but, trust me, use the sauces they bring you with the platter. They took the oysters to a whole new level. For my main course, I ordered the lobster roll. Why? Because I cannot resist lobster. I love it so much. The lobster roll was everything you want in a lobster roll. It was piled high with juicy, buttery lobster, the bread was crisp, yet soft and there was extra butter to dip the roll into. I cried tears of joy and thanked the lobster gods after eating it. Since I was already on a roll, a lobster roll, LOL, I followed up with an order of the butter poached lobster lobster (yum) and the lobster Mac n cheese--also delicious creamy and full of lobster. My friend ordered the sea bass over Brussel sprouts and she said it was delicious. She can't resist ordering fish at any restaurant we visit so that's a high compliment coming from her. For dessert, I ordered a slice of lemon cake. Fantastic! I'm not even a 'lemon dessert' type of person, but that cake was moist and delicious. To accompany our meal, JP recommended a delicious red blend called the Arsonist. I'm usually not a "blend" person, (I prefer a Cab or Merlot) but, JP described it so beautifully that we trusted his opinion. So glad we did! This blend tasted like a rich, warm, full bodied Cabernet only better. We left the restaurant satisfied and feeling nice. City Post, thank you for taking care of us. I really don't get this place. City Post is probably most notable for being housed in a former US Post Office; it's kind of interesting if you think about it. The odd thing is although the building looks imposing from the outside the dining room is actually quite small and really crowded. It takes what could have been an elegant setting and turns it into a pedestrian one. Things other than food: Parking is pretty easy (and free) on the streets in Georgetown, and most of the people working at the restaurant are friendly and professional. There is a baby grand in the dining room and a piano player. Not really my cup of tea, but certainly better than a lot of indecipherable canned crap some restaurants play over a speaker system. There is a dress code, so if you're looking for something just a little bit nicer to take your partner, consider City Post. For dinner, they are open only three days a week and for a good evening reservation you will wait at least two weeks and maybe three. Its not that they're that good (three stars, see?) its just they're not open often. Not sure about their lunch openings. Our server was not super or friendly. In fact, he was so efficient it was sort of like going to P. Terry's - whaddya want? pull up! I did not care for his attitude or lack of attention at all. He did not help things when my partner asked about the speciality (she was trying to say special of the night) and he interpreted it as 'what are you known for.' He then indignantly said, "we're known for our steaks - we're a chophouse!" Wrong answer Scooter - and you just cut your tip in half being snotty to my girl. Thankfully the expediter who served our food was very nice, as was the hostess and another server we spoke with but our guy was not fun. The food: The onion soup was very good - probably a B+, but Fleming's is actually better. The City Post salad with greens, feta, pear & pistachio was really quite good. My partner's Post Poppy cocktail was not quite on the mark, and her after dinner Old (Post) Fashioned was muddy and awful. I lucked out with a very nice Zinfandel - Terra D'Oro - and thankfully (although purists would complain) City Post fills the nice-sized wine glass up very nicely, so you definitely get your money's worth. Moral? Maybe skip the cocktails and stick with wine & beer? My partner's Lobster Roll [she was unimpressed with the waiter's proclamation re "chop house") was actually quite good. My boneless rib eye was acceptable however but no more than that. It was rare because they placed it high on the Santa Fe style grill so as not to overcook it, but it also ensured the outside of the steak was more like steamed than grilled. Honestly you can get a better steak at Lone Star for half the price. The side of mashed potatoes? Let me just say lukewarm, lumpy, devoid of taste or seasoning. Other than that? Pretty good. Whole tab with tip just under $200. That's more than double what it was worth folks. We won't be back - the food was not enough to make us want to try it again, and the weird small space plus one incredibly bad server and unreasonable pricing makes us not want to bother with City Post again. They do have some upsides and maybe you'll have a better server, so I would try them once; just go with tempered expectations. read more

Had a few snafus with the wrong salads and some cold cappuccinos but the issues were eventually rectified. We had a table near the bar as the rest of the place was booked but it was not too loud. We ordered the shrimp cocktail and some drinks to start dinner. Unfortunately, the shrimp cocktail showed up with a dead fly on one of the shrimps. When notified, the manager made excuses about how warm the room was where we were seated and asked if we wanted a different appetizer. Wrong answer. The food was plated and served that way, it was not simply a matter of a fly landing on our food. It was gross and convinced us staying was not an option. We left and while we appreciated them comping the drinks after we announced we were leaving, it's hard to accept the almost off handed way the manager shrugged off a dead fly on our food. read more

Nothing less than five stars after our enjoyable lunch. This is a fairly new addition to the Georgetown scene and a very sophisticated operation it is. The location is in the old central post office in Georgetown just off the square. they have retained just enough of the decor to indicate the building's history but everything else is dedicated to customer comfort. I am a former owner / operator of a white tablecloth restaurant in Massachusetts and I can attest that they have their act together here. Service is impeccible and there is a floor manager visible, not sitting at his desk. Our server, Luke and his trainee with her disarming smile treated us very well. We have learned that in Texas, a diner sometimes needs to manage the ordering process in order to not have three courses on the table at once but that probably wasn't neccessary here. We did have three courses and they were served one at a time. There is a good drink menu and an extensive wine list. We were there during the lunch period and could not pass on the New England Lobster roll and we were not disappointed. We really can't wait to go back to sample other offerings. There is a mild dress code, so gents, leave the baseball caps in the car and your wife beater T shirt at home. It's still Texas casual. read more

I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. If I had a once in a life time 6 star review to give on Yelp it would be here. Downtown Georgetown is beautiful and this is the crown jewel. This is both an architectural and culinary accomplishment that is worth the experience. Hand crafted cocktails (I watched); chef dedication to the execution of locally sourced foods (and partnering with local bakery/pastry savants) could leave even the most avant-garde traveler wanting for nothing. Let me cut to the chase: BEST LOBSTER ROLL EVER. Served by kind staff who have very warm smiles. All of this is inside (and this is my favorite part) the old Georgetown Post Office just off the square! So the staff are great. The food is amazing even with their limited menu right now before the full open. (Not kidding about the lobster roll. The bread alone will have you asking where they source it.) Can't wait to see what else Chef Adrian has up his sleeve for us! And the location: Can I just say how special it is to see historic buildings repurposed but with full respect for their original architecture and details? The freakin PO Boxes are still intact! So are the original iron detailing and tile entry. The bathrooms are modern with an Art Deco twist. I haven't even mentioned the marble. And then there are the craft cocktails. I recommend the Post Poppy and Old Post Fashioned...or try their wine. read more

Invited to a financial seminar at City Post in their upstairs dining room and thought it would be a great way to also try the restaurant for the first time. The salmon was plain and bland, the chicken cutlet was terribly dry and the chunk of beef I was served was overcooked and well done. Before the seminar, we ordered a glass of wine (made a purchase) and asked if we could take a peek at the dining room, since it was our first time there. We were told we were not allowed to because it was a private dining room. What?! Needless to say, we will not be back. The service was amazing, and the waitress was engaging. I couldn't decide on a drink so I asked her to get me what ever her favorite drink was. IT WAS AMAZING!! I got the Salmon and my boyfriend for the Sea Bass. Both were super moist and flaky. The bread is warm, crispy on the outside and soft in the center. I want to go on but clearly this restaurant is wonderful. We can't wait to go back! Pros: beautiful building, friendly staff at the entrance, good service Cons: overpriced food, weird chimichurri, underseasoned vegetables We made a late lunch reservation on a Saturday. The Square was busy, so parking was a bit difficult to find near the restaurant but not impossible. We were greeted warmly by several young ladies and shown to our table. Our waiter (Luke) was nice and fairly attentive. We weren't in a rush, so we ordered one course at a time. The tuna poke ($20) was delicious, and the extra slices of Serrano and ginger allowed us to try it with different heat/flavor profiles. The four onion soup ($9) was flavorful, but it wasn't the best we've had. For the main course we ordered the lobster roll ($25) and the coulotte & chimichurri ($28). The lobster roll was supposed to come with chips or fries, and the steak with fries. Luke said we could substitute sides, so we chose to swap out the fries for Brussels sprouts and asparagus. The lobster roll arrived first, and it was small but looked good. The steak arrived, and it was supposed to be medium rare. It was partially undercooked, and the chimichurri was a weird lump on top of the steak. We chose not to send the steak back, as we didn't want it to come back overcooked. The chimichurri was very bitter and strange - it looked more like a scoop of very herby butter, but it never melted or softened. It worked better with the steak, but it's definitely not a traditional chimichurri and we wouldn't order it again. The lobster roll was tasty but small. As for the sides, we were so glad we didn't order them as extra dishes! The Brussels sprouts and the asparagus were both without seasoning other than a dash of salt. Neither were anything special - nothing was added to elevate them or make them worth the $12 City Post charges for them as a side dish. We both regretted not sticking with the fries or chips. For dessert we ordered the apple pie al a mode ($15), and it was the highlight of the meal! We also ordered three drinks during our lunch - a beer ($9), the First Class cocktail ($13), and a glass of Prosecco ($9). City Post has a lot of potential, but we weren't overly impressed by the food. Most people we know who have dined there have had similar feedback. We might give it another shot in the future to try other items or see if they make adjustments. read more

Delicious! The best steak restaurant in Georgetown. It is a more fine dining experience. You can go there for brunch launch and dinner. They have an excellent selection for brunch. We will go here every Sunday after church. The servers treat you like royalty. Our favorite server is Heidi. Very nice lady. As you can tell the service here is amazing. Today I, and two of my friends, had lunch at Georgetown's City Post Chophouse. What can I say, about the experience, other than it was the kind of eating experience that lingers in your mind, that you spontaneously want to tell others about, and that ensures you will be back. The food: We started with east coast oysters on the halfshell, the origins of which were explained nicely by our waiter. The oysters came on a bed of ice with four different sauces, each of which the chef explained in detail. The sauces paired beautifully. For the main course we ordered two lobster roll entres, and a steak entre. The lobster roll was delicious with whole pieces of lobster on a nicely toasted bread base. The portion was just right. We shared a little at the table, so I also tasted the steak - at my next visit, I'm getting the steak. It was sort of like cotton candy in your mouth - not really but you get the idea, very tasty, very tender and very well presented. The service: The wait staff was what I would call exceptional, their collective attention to detail was frankly unique. Example: my cloth napkin had unbeknownst to me falled on the floor, and before I was even aware, our waiter had a new one beside my plate and had picked up the one I dropped. That has never ever happened to me before. Finally: We had the great priviliege of meeting Chef Adrian and his wife (she showed us the top floor), both were delightful, warm and personable. They both felt like genuine down to earth people, working hard to build a good business, good relationships and a reputation in our town. We appreciate them both. This place is ran like a circus. I called and made a reservation over a week in advance and the proceeded to tell me where my table was located in the restaurant to a T. I had 4 buddies coming into town and we were all excited to eat at city post. We get there and the staff is extremely rude about telling us that they have no reservation for me and they can't sit us until nearly 10pm. I asked to speak with the manager and i was told they couldn't see me because the manager was too busy. I demanded to speak with them and they finally came and were extremely rude and told me they wouldn't do anything to accommodate us. We left and went to the golden rule which is a well run establishment with much better food that isn't overpriced. Be wary of this place and i hope you have a better experience than we did! read more

This place is fabulous but shockingly spendy. Easily the most expensive restaurant in Georgetown by a landslide. Had the pork chop and it was very good. Sides feed up to 3 people. In case you're unaware, many customers don't complain because they don't want to cause a fuss. They simply pay and never go back. You should check your seasonings and recipes instead of being concerned that nothing was mentioned to your server. Meh. Drinks were decent as was the Tuna Poke appetizer. We split the House salad. It was yummy (pears are difficult to get right for ripeness). But, the Main entree I had (Tomahawk Pork Chop) missed the mark. It was good, but nothing exceptional or food-tacular. It was a bone in pork chop, much thinner then I'd expect for a Tomahawk (it was about 1/2"). Fortunately it was not overdone to the point of chewiness / dryness. But was well cooked for my taste. We'll go again to give it another try, but honestly at the price point I think you are just paying to sit in a historic old Post Office turned City Hall turned restaurant. read more
