I hate to be so negative about a place that is earnest and new, but I hope these comments can be constructive. Pros: VERY friendly and accommodating service, though not without mistakes from the kitchen. Very clean. Nice Long Island wine wall, but choices by the glass were limited Cons: 1. If you're healthy eaters, like we try to be, you will find very little on the menu with those preferences in mind. French Onion Soup. Creamy pastas. Creamy salads. Cheese Steaks. Carbs all over the place. The only healthy "as printed" options are a salmon (served with mashed potatoes). Everything else requires an adjustment - ie, dressing on the side, no cheese, sub salad for fries, etc. I don't want to work that hard! And - it's the North Fork - why no local fish specials? Just frozen salmon? And mayo and carb heavy lobster roll? 2. White rolls served with butter. Nothing whole grain in that basket of four rolls for two people. Start with two and let the diners ask for more - less waste and less carbs. 3. Numerous mistakes made on our order, not by our very nice server, but by the kitchen. Mostly made up for, service wise, but we gave up on a few. 4. One of the items we got was guacamole. Both the guac and the pico de gallo were refrigerated, the chunks of avocado turning black at the edges, and served verrrry cold. The pico was flavorless because it was so cold. HUGE amount of chips, and this strange mayo-based dressing with a reddish tinge that had no flavor. We love guac and have never seen it served with mayo. Chips were warm and good (but wayyyy too many!) 5. My mussels were described as being served with "toasts," correctly. First of all, they were the smallest mussels I've ever seen, secondly, the "toasts" were cold slivers of bread - and there were two such slivers underneath the mussels, making the pile look bigger and soaking up all the juices! I wish this place the best but please, it's 2014, let's offer healthy diners some more options. We felt like there was a time warp! "American" food does not have to be unhealthy! read more

Had a WONDERFUL experience eating here with my family while visiting. All the staff were beyond accommodating. They had really talented live music playing outside. Portions were great and prime rib was delicious. We left full and smiling. Can't remember the last time we had such a pleasant dinner. read more

One thing I have to say right off the bat the service is great The owner Chris greets you at the door or during dinner to make sure all is well. "East End Events Catering" catered our backyard wedding September 2016. First off - i wasted a ton of time hiring (then firing) an event coordinator when really all i should have done was pay the extra fee for their maitre d' from the start. Chris and Joanne run a smooth operation. All of their staff remarked how they enjoy working for them. We bought our own wine/beer and hired their bartender to serve and maintain. Jackie, the Maitre d' was SUPERB! she came the day before and went through all specific setup tasks with me. This even included her helping me finish decorating the tent. They staked in some of my signs and carried a large flower pot out onto one of the tables once the tables were set. Jackie also made sure my homemade flower crown were taken out of the fridge and placed on the welcome table for guests per my request. Does this sound like a catering company? No, theyre much more. Food was DELICOUS! cocktail hour blew the guests away by by quantity, quality, and beautiful setup on an old barn door they use. Considering how busy I was, Jackie kept on eye on me all night to see if i needed anything to drink, etc. we had their cupcakes and top of wedding cake for dessert and couldnt have wanted more. as i said, my main complaint was that i didn't utilize their additional services sooner! they have great recommendations on other vendors and know the area very well. 5-stars for sure. read more

Great hospitality by both owners (husband/wife team) from the moment we walked into the door and outstanding service by waitress Tina. Wine at $25 a bottle including some local favorites can't be beat! Perfect spot to start or end your weekend with classic fare at beyond friendly prices. We have 3 apps and shared an entree. We got the crabcake, french onion soup, the kids mozzarella sticks w/ ff, and the salmon w/ a side salad. Our waitress was very nice. I liked the french onion soup. The Salmon and vegetables were good. Thats about it. It was freezing in there. It took 15 mins or so after ordering to get our first food. The mozzarella sticks and crabcake were horrible. (Ive had better, tastier meals at TGIFridays) The salad dressing on the side salad was eh, to the point I could only have two bites. The Salmon was over a bed of sweet potatoes that were probably canned. Def did not expect this from here. Not a good follow-up in this place after Dolittles closed. We will prob not go back and if we go to see a movie there, i've def had better meals at the pizza place in that shopping plaza. read more

CJ's American Grill is a small restaurant, located between a supermarket and a bagel place, near a movie theater, not visible from the road. We have eaten there many times and each time was a thoroughly pleasant experience. We have only had lunch there but everything we've ordered has been very good! The restaurant is very comfortable, never too hot nor too cold, nice music playing not too loud, and the servers have been very nice, friendly, and professional. And the staff has been anxious to please. We plan our day to include lunch at CJ's! read more

First time at CJ's this past weekend with my three kids and parents. All in all, a great experience. Guacamole was delicious and nice selection of local wines by the glass. My parents and I all had burgers which were very good. Our waitress was very friendly and our kids enjoyed the complimentary make-your-own root-beer floats after dinner. Service was GREAT! Food- my sister ordered New Orleans Chicken Corn Chowder and it was very bland. I ordered the French Dip sandwich and I'm sorry but the cut of meat was just odd. I have never had roast beef with that texture before. I would not recommend. The waitress was super sweet and offered to exchange and I just picked a burger as a safe bet. Again, bland. Great atmosphere, amazing food and drinks, as well as a great staff. Prices are reasonable and affordable, especially their Thursday night prime rib for $20. I'm reading some of these other reviews and people are ranting and raving over the place - you know I really want to give this place a second shot - for now I'm going to give it one star. I went with my wife, it was a Friday night really looking to just unwind and not have to deal with cooking. I looked at the menu and decided to order a burger, it was terrible - WAY over cooked dry, the last thing you'd want. I ordered it medium rare I truly would've sent it back but the waitress was really hustling her butt off, maybe it was an off night. We absolutely love this place, coming either before or after we take in a movie at the theater in the same shopping center (make sure to note that the restaurant is located in the "alley" near Goldberg's Bagels, which made it a little bit tricky finding it for the first time). The food is always prepared and presented wonderfully and priced reasonably. The wait staff are quick and friendly, as are the owners. The wine selection features some of the best bottles from local North Fork vineyards.The prime rib, when it is featured as a special (I believe it's weekly, but not certain which night), is TERRIFIC. Went there after the movies with my wife and three kids. Waited over an hour for the food to be served ... it seemed they were a bit short handed but certainly not in the kitchen. The girl that was bussing tables didn't even work there but she was trying her best. The food we ordered was not hard to make kids mac and cheese a salad and wings and tidbits. The bits were tough and the wings were cold. They get one star for a few reasons ... the waitress knew there was a screw up of some sort and took 50 percent off the bill and the second reason is that you have to post at least one star. 2 things put me off. The fries tasted awful, that taste that happens when food is cooked in stale oil, or oil that has been used too often. It was 9:30 on a Sat night so I guess it was the end of their day. The waitress was very apologetic and would have replaced them but I didn't want to wait. The hostess saw us reading the menu in the window and nicely encouraged us to come in and try it. That was the last attention she paid to us. She joined a table with friends who had finished eating and they were playing some kind of dice game. She didn't stop by our table, or say good night when we walked right past her. First time at CJ,s American Grill and it WON'T be out last. Had dinner there last night 11/12/14 and what a pleasant surprise. From the pleasant staff, the night manager and the cleanliness I knew this was a good choice. The seafood bisque soup was SPOT ON, absolutely delicious. I had the NY Style Reuben and my husband had the French Dip both of which were served with PERFECTLY cooked french fried potatoes. The Reuben was well balanced between meat and kraut and served on a rye/pumpernickel swirl bread. The best I ever had. My husband enjoyed the French Dip which also was perfectly balanced between meat and cheese. Both were generous in size, as well. We don't go out often for dinner because to often we are disappointed. However, when we come across a restaurant that is on top of their game-I take the time to write about it. My wife and I went to CJ grill for a drink. The atmosphere was so welcoming we stayed 2 extra hours. We had dinner which was very good. Our first time there but we were made to feel like regulars. Seriously the best place on the North Fork! Chef Chris and Chef Brian turn out innovative, amazing food. The metro look, totally revamped from the old Do Littles has a modern look with a warm, inviting feel. Crowd is great, employees are awesome, food is to die for, and the atmosphere is so fun! You will be foolish to pass by CJ's. Just make sure you look for it. It's hidden in the complex in Mattituck, but so worth the search. read more

My wife and i had dinner here april6 2016.The waitress was the best thing about the meal and ambiance.I had a beautiful salad with lobster ravioli and sauce.There was no lobster in the ravioli and no flavor.My wife asked for medium rare porterhouse steak.It was half raw!!!!! I had the pleasure of having CJ's American Grill cater my wedding back in May and have had the pleasure of dining at the restaurant several times since then. Chris and his staff always take amazing care of my guests and me. The food is incredible and mouthwatering whether you order a steak, chicken, or fish. And don't forget to try the delicious macaroni and cheese! My wedding guests still talk about it to this day! The last time I ate at the restaurant I was there with my husband's best man and his girlfriend. The owner was there and remembered us from the wedding and having been there in the past. Not only did he make it a point to say hello and check on us, he gave us a bottle of sparkling wine at the end of our meal! Service was very annoying. Waitress may have come to our table no less then three times to ask if we were decided on dessert but we were still finishing our wine, so had not decided. We clearly told her finishing wine, would let her know. After the 3rd time we asked if we were keeping her there and if they were closing. She said not until 8:45, it was 7:30...we were perplexed. Ordered dessert. Came back twice to see if we paid yet. Very annoying. Training needs to happen. Three friends catching up for the holidays the annoyance was just that annoying. Also needs training on clearing of table, the empty bread plates, butter cup and empty glasses were not taken away. The waitress clearly had time on her hands but didn't know how to use it wisely. Prime Rib special was good. Nothing to brag about other then nice glass of wine included. Bar was loud, remaining space very slow, with exception of small retirement gathering on high tops. I have been here a total of three times, the first two for lunch and the third time for their wine tasting dinner which I thought would be fun. Lunch was fine but the dinner left so much to be desired. There was one table of three ahead of us and the rest of the place, except for the bar, was empty. Our waitress promptly brought our first taste of wine to accompany our salads which arrived 20 minutes later. All four courses were so off time wise. There was just something wrong in the kitchen as far as timing. And although the food was good, the entire meal took over two hours to complete. This is a very cute place and the owner has a very nice menu and reasonably priced weekday specials but something has to be done with the timing and possibly a more knowledgeable staff. The idea of the restaurant is a good one but it really needs to be tweaked to be successful. read more

One of the worst places I've been for service. There was plenty of staff. Only 2 tables seated when we arrived and we waited for over 20 minutes and had no one come to take an order or bring bread, anything! Others arrived and were seated around us and were served. We sat there amazed. Finally we decided to go to another restaurant in town. As we got up to go, no one even bothered to say is anything wrong or anything. The whole experience was amazing in a bad way. I'm always looking for a good local place because I don't want to always go west for a change of pace but it seems this CJ's couldn't even serve us food for us to judge. Bad food and high prices. We went here tonight for the first time because it had a relatively good review on Yelp. However, we were more than disappointed with the food. The Long Island wine was good, as well as the mixed drink; the wedge salad was good too. But the crab cake was dry and tasteless, the shrimp bruschetta had no flavor, the asparagus was previously frozen and then cooked until it was grey, and the mashed potatoes were hard and dry. The only reason that this did not get a 1 instead of 2 was that the outside atmosphere was pleasant for a strip mall and they had a good, live band. However, for $115 for 3 people: you can do a lot better on the North Fork. read more
