Food was great and priced amazingly! Had chicken and waffles, 2+2+2, and eggs your way! Just wish our waitress was more attentive. I understand that it was busy but there was two other waitresses making sure our drinks was topped off along with working their tables. I gave this place 3 stars unfairly maybe. Compared to breakfast joints across the board everywhere in the US, it is solid 3 stars. For all places in Pensacola it is 5 star. The service is great, consistently good food. It has a good "diner" feel to it, noisy enough that you can talk smack about people without fear that some nosy person at the table next to you might overhear you and happen to be related to the very person you just slandered so elegantly. You know how small towns are, right? For a diner, they take some chances on menu items that work well. I like it that they have variety, not for just variety's sake; but that the cooks like what they are offering. Dings on coffee, nothing special. But all the places that serve good coffee seem to go out of biz. Nothing special on Biscuits, either. I know that homemade biscuits are extinct on breakfast menus, but it is essential to a really good breakfast. That and good coffee. read more

My family and I dinned here for breakfast. My husband and 4 daughters had pancakes, bacon , and eggs- and myself a western omelet with hash browns and wheat toast. The omelet was tasteful , but the wheat toasted had an old smell to it. The pancakes were not golden brown. They were very light and appeared to be half cooked. And let me not forget dry...you'll need lots of butter and syrup to inquire a taste. Lastly, the eggs were overcooked. I will never dine here again- at least not for breakfast. I absolutely love this a mom and pop owned hole in the wall restaurant! Everytime I go in I am greeted with a smile. I have ordered several things on the menu and all of the Louisiana style meals are superb! The breakfast items are phenomenal especially the crab cake Eggs Benedict. Mike and Steve are the cooks and made you an absolutely fabulous job. You will not be let down! And you will definitely not leave hungry!!!! The atmosphere is strictly greasy spoon, but this is probably the best breakfast place in town and the dining room is almost always packed to capacity as a result. The food is fantastic (try the chicken and waffles!), the staff has the demeanor of proper Southern diner personnel with the speed cranked up to 11 and the prices are extremely reasonable. Every now and then it gets a little too crowded and the AC can struggle a bit to keep up with the crush of patrons, the roaring kitchen and Florida heat, but I can't recommend this place enough. read more

Eat breakfast with a group of men from our church every Friday morning. I also eat breakfast here other days of the week as well. Lunch is good, just get in early. My Husband and I tried this place this morning 7-1-2016 after a trip to the beach. Would not recommend. The service was slow, catering to regulars who came in after us. They ran out of biscuits and grits with 40 minutes left in their breakfast service. I ordered the country ham big breakfast my husband ordered the country fried steak. The country ham was covered in grease to the point that it was dripping off. My sunny side up eggs were not well cooked and tasted as if they were cooked on a dirty grill. Came here a little before 11:30am and the parking lot looked pretty full but still decided to go in. It didn't look like much of a wait, there was no one in front of us. It took a lady 10 minutes to clean off a table and tell us we could sit. No one brought menus until we were sitting at the table for ANOTHER 10 minutes. We got our drinks and they said 'there are a few people in front of you so it will be a minute' before they took out order. There's maybe 20 tables in this place but over 5 waitresses so you would think they would all not stand behind the counter making drinks every time someone's glass wasn't even half empty. 2 people got seated after us AND got their order taken before us. We left after sitting there for 40 minutes and only had drinks. As we were leaving the waitress says 'you're up next are you sure you don't want to wait'. And tried paying for the drinks just to make a point but they told us 'not to worry about it'. I wouldn't recommend unless you're looking for a 45 minute wait before you even get an order, and probably another 30-45 minutes before you get your food considering there will be 'many people before you'. read more

My wife and I went to CJ's after reading some good reviews. Wow, it was THE WORST service we have ever had, anywhere. There were two waitresses and maybe five or six occupied tables. We were seated at a dirty booth which was then cleaned in front of us. After being brought our coffee's and ordering, it took twenty minutes to get my first refill. Twenty minutes later our food came out, but an additional five minutes for another coffee refill. The western omelette I got was good. We were going to get a beignet to go, but I just couldn't wait to get the hell out of there. Atrocious service! read more

My boyfriend and I visited CJ's for the first time this morning for breakfast. It does have a great local feel, those southern comfort foods that you love, and some creative combinations. The food was good for the price, though not the best around. The service was another story. Our server, Angela, neglected to tell us the specials -- we overheard another server say them after we ordered. Unfortunately, we missed out on a barbeque pork omelette. Nonetheless, our meals hit the spot despite the server's inattention to our empty cups. When we did see her, she was slapping our ticket on the table and asking us how things were as she walked away. We really wanted to try some of their blueberry bread pudding and spent 15 minutes trying to get Angela's attention again so that we could order. Meanwhile, the place was filling up and we were getting the evil eye from waiting patrons. We finally put in our order when she delivered food to a nearby table. Another 10 minutes passed waiting on the bread pudding. We finally got up to leave when we saw Angela sitting at the bar eating a fish basket. When we rose, she rushed to get the bread pudding and put it in a to-go box. It was ice cold served with a side of cold sauce. What were we waiting on all that time -- her to cut the slice? The service at Waffle House is better, and that's saying a lot. read more

Wow! What can I say? Heard good things about this place and decided to give it a try. Came in the door and was greeted by the smell of rancid food from somewhere in the kitchen! People didn't seem to mind the smell though as the place was packed. As I waited I could see the filth on the floor in the kitchen. This is a very dirty restaurant! Hello, health department! The floor looks like it has not seen hot soapy water in a very long time. Sorry I can't say anything about the food as smell ended my appetite. I left without eating. Wow what a disappointment! The waitress said "good food but bad service". She was absolutely correct! We waiting a lengthy time to order and receive our food. We were totally on a tight schedule and didn't appreciate the delay we experienced at the grill. We ordered the 2+2+2 and crab cakes. Pancakes were ok... And the crab cakes were salty. We were hungry so it was alright. We will not be back. The waitress was very sweet though! I will going to ihop or the barrel. Pcola needs more breakfast spots!!! read more

This is my favorite greasy spoon breakfast spot in Pensacola. You have to try the beignets with coffee, and any of their daily breakfast specials are usually great so always go for one of those if you have the option. Don't go to CJs if you're in a rush though, I agree with other reviewers that the service can be disorganized and slow, but it doesn't bother me if I go there with extra time to spend. read more

Visiting Pensacola from California to see our Marine and wanted to check out a local neighborhood family breakfast place and we were told CJ's was a great place. We went and they were packed. They seemed like a good place and we were excited. Liked it at first it's self seating had to wait a bit. Got seated, they gave us our drinks and our server said, "can't take your order just yet alright give me a min." Took 25 min and never took our order. Cleaned up other tables while we waited and the other server was just talking away to other customers (which I'm pretty sure were regulars) and just completely ignored us. We just left 2 bucks and walked off. And our b**** of a server said, "bye have a nice day!" And under her breath said something like, "see told you." I've never been to a place with such horrible service and felt ignored. Maybe they have it out for tourists? So if you're not from the area just go to IHOP, seriously. Service is better there. Guess this place doesn't need the money. I thought some places in cali were bad, guess not. What happened to southern hospitality? read more

I was introduced to CJ's kitchen & Grille by a friend and now I'm hooked! My friend and I have become regulars now and I have tried so many different items and have never had a bad dish. Hands down the red beans and rice dish is my all time favorite as well as the blue berry waffle and beignets! I love this place! This place has good beignets. I have written before that the Cafe du Monde in New Orleans has the best beignets in the world and that is true. I have also said that there are a number of imitators in the South that cannot make a good beignet. This place is an exception. The beignets are good and I recommend them. I have only had breakfast here, and it is pretty good overall and includes some traditional southern fare. read more

Went there for breakfast. Food was average but this place is not clean. Lipstick on my coffee mug and gunk in the crease of the handle, dirty silverware. Our server was very abrupt and short. You can see behind the counter where they cook, again not clean at all. Just glad we didn't get sick. Won't return. read more

Listen. CJ's is delicious. We stumbled upon it a couple of years ago when I bought a Groupon for it. They have, hands down, the BEST Philly "French Dip". Their portions are huge, their fries are great, their specials are southern and prepared fresh. They cook out in the open (think Waffle House). It's a "greasy spoon", and one of Pensacola's best kept secrets. It doesn't look like much from outside (or inside either), but the staff is always friendly, the food is fresh and fast, and you cant beat the price. Their beignets are better than NOLA's. Love. They are only open for breakfast and lunch. read more
