Seafood quality was great, but the flavors were forgettable. We got the Shackies sauce, which is garlicky with some sweetness but lacks depth. The seafood didn't absorb the sauce well so it tasted flavorless. The shambalang sauce might be better! My mom's coworker claimed this place is better than Kickin Crab, but I'd have to disagree. At this Claw Shack, everything went well, but the crawfish quality was a bit lower. Service was great and we were seated right away, but expect a long wait any time after 6PM. Also, parking is very limited since it's a high traffic plaza, so BE AWARE! Cajun Fries (5/5): Can't go wrong with Cajun Fries. I love the batter they use here. It was crispy and super flavorful with the seasoning. 2lb Crawfish Combo (Shackies Mild) (3.8/5): I was slightly disappointed with my experience with the crawfish here. First off, I noticed that most of the crawfish were a crumbly black texture and the inside was similar with a bit of white. I've been to a few seafood Cajun places, and this one is one of my favorite go-to places. I'm a big fan of crawfish, and I feel like the ones here are sizable and fresh. I usually come during crawfish season, so I'd double check if you want fresh only before coming. The only negative downside of having larger crawfish is that you end up getting less of the meat since the claws and head usually take on a lot of weight, so you might need to order more to feel full. My friends who like to order the shrimp felt like they were large and fresh too. My only note would be that I wish they add more sauce. I believe you can order more for an additional cost. I've only ever gotten the Cajun fries as a side here. They're super crispy, but I feel like they kind of skimp on the seasoning. Disclaimer: I'm not a big seafood person. I've been to this claw shack twice in my entire life but I've had this type of seafood boil plenty of other times. This place is one of my cousins favorite places and every time he comes back to visit from Canada, this is what he craves. The first time I came here with a friend we had headless shrimp and crawfish, along with garlic noodles and of course the extra fixings in the bag (potatoes, sausage, and corn). This recent time we ordered oysters, head on shrimps and crawfish, along with the extra fixings. I highly recommend you get through shrimp with heads on, they're definitely sweeter and more flavorful. The crawfish the first time around tasted better, they were less rubbery and overcooked tasting (maybe because they're frozen). Oysters came out to about a little over $2.50 for a dozen and they tasted just fine. The corn's texture wasn't that overly boiled soft texture so I was happy with that. Potatoes were cooked perfectly and sausages were bite size. No complaints on the service, there's a sink right outside the restroom so you can wash your hands. Staff doesn't check up on you and it's just fine because if you need anything it's not hard to flag them down or get their attention. This isn't something I crave often or much at all, but there wasn't anything about this place that made it amazing or stood out from other seafood boil places. My usual go to is shrimp when eating seafood boil, so we ordered 2 pounds of shrimp ($15.99 per pound) in their shambalang sauce and a side of rice (very small portion, imo). But wowww in that sauce you can really taste the GARLIC. The sauce is very garlicky, tangy, and spicy (which I enjoyed). The shrimp was a good size and it was cooked well. Overall a 3.8/5, not my absolute favorite but it's a solid choice. I will say the flavor was a bit saltier than I was expecting and the shrimp was pretty bare when peeling it so I guess it needed the extra salt. Also, we ordered the shrimp with head, but the antenna/rostrum got in the way of enjoying the shrimp. Would prefer that to be cut/cleaned beforehand for a more enjoyable experience. I would say the many great ratings for this seafood boil place, my experience with the boils was a bit underwhelming. We got their #1 liked sauce mild, with a pound of shrimp and garlic noodles. The sauce was described as sweet and salty but we ended up getting the latter. It was not very sweet but very salt. However, the shrimp was pretty big and fresh, not overly cooked. The interior was a little small, but they did have outdoor seating as well, which is where we were seated. I ordered 1 lb of the shrimp with head on, shambalang sauce (which i was told is a mix of casian, garlicky, and lemon pepper sauces) with the spice level of hot. One thing I was a little sad about is that the 1 lb did not come with any sausage or corn and while there was a combo "deal", you still had to pay $6 extra for the corn, sausage and potatoes. I don't really get how that's a deal. Many other places I know have it set that you get 2lbs and you get something like corn or sausage for free (or even a whole side). The shrimp itself was a little underwhelming. The size was fine, but the shrimp was slightly over cooked so the shell stuck to the meat as you peeled. Additionally the sauce didn't permeate to the meat at all? I'm not sure if it's just me, but at all other seafood boil places, once I peel the shrimp there's still some sauce on the shrimp. When I peeled the shrimp here it was still pink and white so I put them back into the bag to soak up some sauce. The sauce itself was ok, I think it was not super flavorful and could use more lemon/acidity. I'm also usually a huge fan of sucking on the shrimp head when I peel the shrimp, but for the first one I peeled, the head tasted a little fishy. When you see your order come out in a see-through plastic bag, it literally produces so much serotonin and dopamine because you know you're about to eat some delicious ass food. They don't skimp on portions here. I usually order two lbs. of seafood with corn, sausage, and potato. I really do feel like I get my money's worth here. Their raw oysters, Cajun fries, and fried catfish are excellent as well. My go-to order is the medium Shackies (sweet garlic) Crawfish combo (I always replace the potatoes in the combo for extra sausage) with a separate pound of mussels along with their garlic noodles, fries, and bread rolls. They do not skimp you with small crawfish! Even though they are frozen, the crawfish meat is juicy and soaks up the sauce very well. I also really like their garlic noodles and fries. I've been here a handful of times, both with family or friends who love seafood boil. Overall, it's pretty good and the shackies sauce is definitely my favorite. All the times I went there hasn't been a wait which has been nice. Staff is friendly and takes your order/brings it out quickly. The last time I went, we ordered a pound of shrimp and then another pound about 20 minutes later- there was a noticeable difference in the second pound we received, almost as if the first pound was way older (tougher, harder to peel, lighter color). Favorite seafood boil spot. Great quality flavors and seasonings, decent sized shrimp, never over cooked or under cooked. Their garlic noodles are also my favorite to order. I usually order the shrimp with head, shackies sauce, medium spice however sometimes I find that it's not as spicy and could probably go a bit more with the spice level. I've only been here a handful of times but I really enjoyed the food! Definitely want to come here more often. Their shambalang is my new favorite seafood boil sauce. It's a combination of all their sauces and a good balance of it. I like that it has a mix of the spices, lemon, and garlic. Shackies is really good too if you're a garlic lover. I also recommend their garlic noodles and sweet potato fries! Service here was also great. They're very attentive and kept checking up on me to see if I wanted to order anything in the meantime. We were seated in the very back corner though so once we were already eating it was sometimes difficult to flag down a server and ask for something.
