Oi another Boiling-Crab-like place! Second time this past week! First Boiling Crab and 4 days later this place....well well....I tried their shrimp, oysters and chicken wings....and a few of the Cajun fries. For the shrimp, we got the garlic and butter flavor..not everything which is what they call the "Cannon Ball" similar to the "whole shabang" for Boiling Crab....I don't know if it's me or what ...but even with just the butter and garlic....it tasted like "Cannon Ball." it tasted exactly like the "whole Shabang" for Boiling Crab too.....except okay maybe it's not quite as flavorful. The size of the shrimp is good, the oysters here were much bigger than the ones I had at Boiling Crab 4 days ago...and isn't served with a cocktail sauce..just lemons and Tabasco sauce...which was fine with me. Oysters are always good to me. heh. The cajun wings were okay...a bit on the tiny side though but flavor was good. The prices on the other hand....1 dollar more for the 1lb shrimp and 1 dollar more for the oysters....and the same $6.99 for the cajun wings. (compare to Boiling Crab) The service was pretty good though....it wasn't busy at all...though it was a weekday..and they weren't as hectic as Boiling Crab..... Overall this place is on par with Boiling Crab and I wouldn't mind coming here again...especially if it would be less crowded than Boiling Crab on weekends...they are after all pretty much the same thing...heh OH one more thing! This place is good but compare it to boiling crab and it just doesn't rate as good. They do have a bigger menu if you're looking for other items and dishes which is a big plus. We got the cannon ball which was tasty with lots of garlic. Their spicy is not very spicy though. Another plus is their full bar area and their beer prices! I've been to Claws a few times now, and I still find it a great alternative to the Boling Crab. I've never had to wait here. They ran out of crawfish this time, but I guess if they aren't in season, there isn't much else that can be done. The sauces are good and the medium is not overly spicy. I would like to see draft beer here. My favorite aspect are their deals, which are usually 3 pounds for 33-36, or 4 pounds for 51, with appetizers and fries included. However, they changed the deals recently and do not include the coconut sea snails as a choice for the appetizer anymore. So we had to order a pound separately which was kinda annoying. We had the butterfly shrimp which was dry. Cajun fries are always good. I'm still a fan because the shrimp and crawfish are good.. We had fun chowing down on seafood with our hands. The wait on a friday night was about 30 minutes. The waiting area got very crowded, but the tables moved pretty quickly. We had half dozen oysters (meaty and fresh tasting), 1 lb dungeness crab in Cajun sauce (crabmeat was tender and juicy), 1 lb fresh crawfish in cannonball (good but too much work for such little meat), corn (sweet), and sausages. We looked like barbarians licking our fingers and cracking shells with our teeth, but we were really into it! We added 1 lb of peeled shrimp in Cajun sauce, which we could have passed on since we were full to the brim at the end. Service was great--our lemonades got refilled frequently and they brought us extra gloves and condiments. My only wish is for them to have easier tools to crack the shells than scissors. read more

I don't agree with the 900+ reviews and average 4 star rating... Sorry but I'm going to go back to Boiling Crab and my other regular Cajun places since Claws is a bit out of the way for me. Drop by though if Claws is closer to you than BC. Aside, it's nice that they have the $1 happy hour oysters and an overall good happy hour menu. Not crowded, accommodates large groups, quick service. Been here a few times and I really like it because the flavor is pretty good and consistent. Just about similar to the boiling crab. Servers are nice. The wait ins't so bad. I like their menu special you can get 2 appetizers. We got the garlic fries really good and the chicken egg rolls or whatever its is but it's pretty tasty. read more

Cons: Take Out first time is annoying. I understand it's because they want you in the system first and are concerned you would order without picking up, but it'd be more ideal to order and be able to pay via credit card over the phone or something so I don't have to wait additional time. ---tip: Remind them to add the butcher/wax paper so clean up is easy and if someone else in your party has ordered takeout from them before, use their phone # to reserve order. This weekend was my first time eating at one of these seafood spots. One of the perceptions I had was that these spots were crowded all the time. And worried about what I would find enjoyable eating seafood out of a bag. And that my idea of a seafood meal was somewhere near the ocean. Well, going with some friends who were ready to introduce this newbie to the meal really helped ease my worry and make it a nice experience. It wasn't so crowded when we arrived and we got seated quickly once the table was ready. And now to the meal and some highlights where I have some to share 1.Cajun fries 2.Ceviche with chips. Yum but with a kid in our party we had to get extra chips to eat with the ceviche. 3.Chicken wings. Juicy and hot. Very good for a spot that doesn't specialize in wings 4.Garlic bread. Good size for an order. And tasty when dipped into the cannonball sauce! 5. Clams, Shrimps, Crawfish, Sausage. I'm not a fan of crawfish but I tried some since we had so much. The clams were right on. And I can always eat shrimp I left full and my tastebuds were happy. And this place is good for getting together with friends. I wish I had Dani's waiter/ess. Food is comparable to boiling crab and pretty much every other cajun crawfish joint. It might be a bit better because of other menu items. I enjoyed the fact that the menu was extensive, but wasn't all over the place with Asian fushion. The thing was.. our waitress sucked.. A..S to the ZZZ. It wasn't honey badger-esque in Alhambra but at it made the experience one where I just..don't feel like going back. They obviously can afford to lose one customer because the food's good but I can't justify giving them more because the whole experience was pretty.. meh, I've experienced better. New favorite Cajun place!! I was skeptical on my first visit. We were seated and I saw a few shrimp legs on my seat and asked to be moved to a different booth. Yuck...but it gets better. We ordered the crawfish, shrimp, Cajun fries, and wings. Everything great and exceeded our expectations. The sauce is thick with lots of garlic. The flavors are well balanced and not one dimensional like some other places. The shrimp wasn't over cooked which I totally appreciated. The wings and fries are better than most places. The service is great! The waitresses must have circled our table 10 times checking up on us. It's special that this place has a full bar. But down fall is high mixed drink prices. Not a single table ordered an alcohol drink while we were there. If the alcohol prices were lower, I can see myself visiting quite often and ordering finger appetizers my buddies. The overall experience was great and Claw is now my new favorite Cajun joint. Although there is room for improvement, this is definitely a place to try, you won't be disappointed. read more

BEST CALAMARI! TRY THE CALAMARI. Don't even get anything else. Just walk in. Say calamari. 5 times. And enjoy 5 plates of calamari. But in all seriousness, this place is pretty good. It never gets as crowded as boiling crab, and everything tastes exactly how it should. The crawfish, shrimp, clams, oysters, and CALAMARI are great. Went to Claws for the first time after a friend recommended over Boiling Crab. The Crawfish was so tasty with the sauce and spices. Loved the sweet potato fries and corn on the cobb, too. The food was very good. But I saw a lot of favorable reviews about the service. Here's my experience. Maybe we were there on an off night. We were there early, and it wasn't packed. It took quite a while before someone came to take our order. Once they did take our order, the fries came out first, well before our food came. I really wanted to eat them with the meal, not as an appetizer. When the food came, my wife's food came first, a good 5 minutes before my food came. So the wife had to eat without me, or let her food go cold. My food finally came, but she was half done. The other thing is the water service wasn't good. Overall, I really enjoyed the food. It's mostly a young Asian crowd, and being in my late 50's, I felt kind of out of place. But you can't beat the seafood. read more

Website had advertised live crawfish...when we arrived they told us "they had run out" and we ended up with the frozen ones; not so good. I have had frozen crawfish at the other joint...have to say I don't think the Claws seasoning is anywhere near as flavorful. In their defense...their coconut periwinkle sea snails are delicious. I know there's a lot of raving about crawfish places. I'm sure this one is good, however, I'm just disappointed that the crawfish were so small. I usually get crawfish 2 to 3 times the size of of the crawfish that I got when I came here. Ordered 3 lbs and it took forever to go through all the crawfish. At the end, there were about a dozen or so crawfish left that just weren't worth breaking open because they were too small. Not sure if Claws can do anything about their supply or if it's a bad season for crawfish. You just shouldn't sell crawfish that small! It's disappointing. read more

I was totally excited to see one of my favorite restaurants reopen. The decor inside is extravagant. The place looks so much bigger than before. I was happy to see some familiar faces especially Collin. He is always attentive and friendly. A little secret is my cousin has a huge crush on him. The food was excellent as always. I drove for 45 minutes to see my friend and her friend to eat at a place i've never tried before, Boiling Crab (which I could have just gone to the one in Rowland Heights), but I wanted to see her anyways. Once I got there at exactly 11am, when it opens, I found that there was a long waiting line outside the place. I thought that there was some kind of sale there. Anyway, we decided to go to another place similiar to BC. She suggested CLAWS. Wow, their food is amazing! I'm not a fan of eating with my hands without utencils or plates and etc, but this was fun and different. We ordered coconut snails, fresh oysters, Tilapia fish with seasoned fries, with two pounts of shrimp and a pound of crawfish. So much food! I don't know how much the total came out to be, since her boyfriend paid, but I bet it was $$$. Great time and GREAT experience. I need to try BC soon too! read more

Had the crawfish, clams, and shrimp. The bag of clams was all shells. The ratio of shells to meat was probably 3:1! The crawfish and shrimp were okay but the sauce didn't really do it for me. I haven't tried any of their dishes yet but I probably will be sticking to BC and Cajun Corner from now on. I do like that they have such a wide selection though. read more

I always prefer going here instead of BC since the wait isn't as crazy. I love the 3 lbs of seafood + appetizer + fries deal, considering how my boyfriend and I eat like we're starving. Instead of the whole shabang, they have the cannonball. Shrimps/clams are slightly bigger than the ones at BC but ultimately they taste pretty much the same. YUM!!! We were invited to dinner here and went with a fairly large party of about 20 people. The service was AWESOME. Very attentive, friendly and quick. The ones who invited us are regulars so i left the ordering to them. They ordered shrimp, oysters, garlic fries, sweet potato fries and they were all super delicious. The sauce was right on... very tasty/flavorful but not overly salty. We also had the calamari and fried shrimp, which were just okay. We don't live in this area, but if we are ever in Garden Grove again, we're definitely going to hit up Claws again! read more

Was not impressed with this place, waited over a hour to be seated. They didn't have any gumbo, they said they ran out but you just opened a hour ago?? The shrimp was big and cook right but you can tell they just threw the sauce on top before they serve it. The only thing I like about the place is the drinks, free refills, they had the game on and some of the waitresses where hot lol but I would rather go to boiling crab. Came here on a Saturday night with my family and I'm happy to say we had a great experience. The food did not disappoint and the service was amazing! Our server by the name of Jeanie and another girl who unfortunately I was not able to catch the name of was very friendly and attentive which I do appreciate as I know how fast paced these type of restaurants can be. The decor here is pretty cool! Pirate-themed. The menu here is more extensive than at Boiling Crab, and includes things like fried okra and shrimp cajun rolls. I really liked the 'Meal Deals' they offer here, because a lot of the deals include things that I would order anyways, and you save a couple $$ while at it. I liked that they offer 2 different sizes for the fries, but I wish you could customize the spiciness like at Boiling Crab. The Cajun Fries were just not spicy enough for me. We also ordered the shrimp and crawfish, which were all good (and the shrimp is quite large). But the Cajun sauce was just not the business for me. It was too chunky and salty for my taste. Over time, the saltiness just overpowered everything and I couldn't take it anymore. I would only come here on days when the line at Boiling Crab is too long (the wait is not bad at all at Claws). My "go to" seafood in a bag restaurant. Their sauce "Cannonball" is the best in the business. Perfect consistency and flavor with chunks of garlic. Yum. But I will have to say, their fish and calamari tacos are so damn good I had to go back and order them again. Glad to see the garden grove location open again. Love this place. read more
