There was a time when I first started going to Claws that I thought it was better than Boiling Crab because the menu is bigger and the sauce was very good. Where Claws drops the ball is the customer service and they charge more than Boiling Crab for the same food. You can copy everything that Boiling Crab does but it doesn't matter is your service doesn't match it. They don't have the system down to turn tables so sometimes the tables sit dirty for quite a while. I know that Boiling Crab is a long wait but now this place is too. If you have a choice and the wait is the same then go to Boiling Crab. Sorry Claws. You just need to get better. read more

Personally, it's comparable to Boiling Crab.. give or take a few things. More selective menu.. steaks, pastas, etc. Flavor wise, tastes similar. Maybe a little better? Although, seems like Claws' "cannonball" is less buttery, which I like anyway. Their version of "medium" is definitely way spicier than BC's medium. Comparable to BC's XXX, if not a little spicer. I love spicy and all, but cannonball's medium was a little unbearable at times. Love their "Under the Sea" bag. Contains a flavorful bag of my favorite seafoods! 3-4lbs of absolute goodness! They even have one corn on the cob & sausages (1 or 2) already included! Huge portion, so you definitely shouldn't tackle this one alone! Feeds 3-4, I think. The only downside is the size of the restaurant. This place is lacking a waiting area... literally waiting/sitting in chairs in front of the bathroom sink. Didn't mind so much, but was just an awkward place to wait. The sinks and mirrors are "outside" the bathroom, probably so other customers can have the sinks available for them to quickly wash their hands. As for customer service, it's a hit or miss. First visit, my server wasn't as attentive. Which is fine, but if you see my empty cup chillin' on the edge of my table for eh, 20 min or so... please do something about it. Maybe, idk? And the person I kindly asked to refill my drink, was a prick. Grabbed my cup, without even saying anything... then dropped off my drink... without saying anything. Eh, rude. Eh, I like boiling crab a little better. I thought that their Cannonball was a must but it wasn't. It had no flavor at all. I mean they have a little bigger menu and some stuff sounded appetizing but as for flavor, did not take me by surprise. Actually it did but didn't meet my expectations. Omg Claws has improved tremendously! My bf, his sister, and I went to Boiling Crab but the wait was too long (1.5 hours) so we decided to go to Claws (20 minutes) We got a meal deal which included: 3 pounds of seafood (we picked 1 pound of shrimp and 2 pounds of crawfish, $1 more for shrimp, $1 more for live crawfish, and 50 cent split fee because 1 pound of crawfish was mild and the other was fire in the hole (extra spicy)) + Cajun fries + Appetizer (paid $4 more for fried oysters) It was delicious! LOOOOOOOOOOVE Claws. I can come here everyday if I didn't worry about health. Their appetizer menu is similar to boiling crab's. But they have calamari strips which I prefer over calamari rings. Their fried catfish is not as good as boiling crab's. But what sets Claws apart is their shrimp! They're huge! (shrimp on steroids....) and they peel so much easier than boiling crabs. BUT! claws is more expensive by a dollar or two. But it's worth it to pay and not have to wait. The sauce definitely IS different. Boiling crab tastes better but Claws's sauce tastes healthier/ cleaner afterwards. Don't ever get crawfish, (hard to peel and nothing to eat), and both king/alaskan crab legs. Not worth your money. I like this place better than Boiling Crab b/c: 1. The wait isn't that long [well now that everyone's finding out about this place it's getting busier, but still not as long as Boiling Crab] 2. I don't go all that often but when friends want to go to a cajun shrimp place... I pick Claws. Then Kickin' Crab and 3rd Boiling Crab. I like that Claws offers combo meals. We usually get the 3 pounds of seafood and split it up with shrimp, and clams. We don't like crawfish ... too much work for too little reward. They do a good job with their wings and sweet potato fries. KC and BC don't seem to offer these easy combos. In fact I think BC has you add on for every other thing - appetizer, corn, sausage, potatoes, etc... Service here is good too. Friendly and they keep your glass filled. I really love this place. I find it to be much more comfortable and friendly than Boiling Crab is. Seems like it's not as expensive either. The wait is much shorter an they take reservations which is great! I always get the pound of crab leg segments which is the same price as a pound of shrimp. It would be nice if they had more options for people who may not be interested in seafood so they're not so left out while everyone's ripping the heads of their prey. Cutting to the chase, this was an average place. A bit tad pricey for seasoned seafood. For a party of four with four lbs of seafood, two sodas, one beer, and ice water, it came out to be $87 with tip. This could easily be a six course dinner at Seafood Cove or any other competitive restaurant closeby with lobster. Overall experience was average, very cheesy environment with plastic bips, utensils, cups, etc.. I didn't have any expectations for this place so I left satisfied but I still think they charge a bit too much, and the miscellaneous charges were weird so double-check your order. We ordered 1 lb each of clams, shrimp, shrimp, crab legs all seperately bagged (extra charge for this service), and did the canonball sauce with all sauce combined, turned out alright - nothing extra-ordinary to rave about. The only one thing to note was their fried calamari - I thought that was the best tasting thing there that evening. Their fried sweet potatoes was not bad. Overall, I'd come back if there was nothing else to eat around Garden Grove / Westminster area, but c'mon there's tons of selection around town so you know what I mean. read more

Appearance The restaurant itself is Pirate themed and the decor and lighting goes well with the flow of the restaurant. You sit on wooden chairs and tables. The restaurant is small but doesn't seem too crowded. Walkways can get a little tight if you've had too much to eat. Service Not the greatest service in the world but that's what you get when you have youth running a restaurant. On occasion I had to remind a server to well, serve me. The place was busy and I know they were working hard but I felt that the servers were absentminded. Overall OK.I didn't encounter any attitude. Food The food came out in a timely manner. I ordered the shrimp, sausage, crab, lobster, and corn with all 3 spices, in the "Spicy" variation. And of course the Cajun fries everyone raves about. The fries were a disappointment. They were over cooked and the Cajun seasoning failed to register as such. In short, it tasted like heavily salted fries. While the sauce smelled great that was as far as it went. The flavor did not penetrate into any of the seafood that I had. They did include a salt-pepper-lime juice dip for the seafood and sadly that was better than the sauce the food came in. Inferior to Boiling Crab's sauce for sure. For a place that specializes in seafood boils, I was disappointed that the shrimp was overcooked. It's overcooked if the shell sticks to the meat kids. First of all I just want to say Claws is better than Boiling Crab and less wait time. Ok on the food. Came in with 3 friends and we ordered the the meal special which I believe is 4 lbs of seafood, fries, appetizer (your choice from the list), and shrimp rolls. We ordered cajun wings for our appetizer. The wings are really good. Fried to crispy perfection and dry rubbed with a cajun seasoning. Not your typical wings. The shrimp rolls are...well shrimp rolls. Tasty The seafood was tasty, it was also fresh. We had 3 lbs of shrimp and 1 lb of clams. There were little no dead clams (clams that haven't opened up after cooking) and the shrimp were pretty big. Got the cannonball medium seasoning. The sauce had a nice kick and some heat to it. I was able to handle it even though I am not a fan of spicy foods. Believe me I was sweating. Feel the burn! All in all the service was very good. Servers always keeping the water and iced tea filled and making sure things are well. We spent about $55+ with drinks (iced tea) Overall Claws is worth coming back to more than once. read more

My two friends and I decided to come here because 1) I never been here and 2) they were craving Claws. So why not right? Got here and it wasn't too packed. (I'd say about 3/4s of the table were taken.) I'm used to having someone seat us, but I guess we were suppose to seat ourselves? So my friends and I randomly grabbed a table. And so did another group that was sitting next to us. We were both waiting for them to give us the menu, but after a few minutes, they noticed us and finally gave us the menu. The menu was HUGE. A lot of options. And they had this deal thing. My friends and I decided on the 4lb deal. Which came with 4lb of any seafood of your choice (we got 4lb shrimp), 1 appetizer (we got wings), shrimp rolls, and small cajun fries. We were waiting for the waiter/waitress to come take our order, but 20 minutes has passed since we received our menu and nothing. Same goes for the group next to us. After 30 minutes, one of the girls from the other group GOT UP AND WENT TO THE CASHIER AND HAD TO PLACE HER ORDER. And so we did the same because we couldn't wait any longer. 10 minutes after placing our order, they finally gave us the paper that goes on the table. Then they gave us the rest of the stuff. Appetizer, Shrimp roll and cajun fries came out. I really love the cajun fries! It's like evenly coated. Then our 4lb of shrimp came out. And let me tell you, the shrimp is really big compared to Boiling Crab. It was really good. The sauce is good too! There are a lot of garlic bits and stuff. It was delicious! I think they need more workers here because throughout the experience, I only saw 3-4 different faces. Gave them 4 stars because I will let the service pass. In my opinion, i believe that claws is better than boiling crab. They have a nice selection of things, from seafoods to salads to steaks to soups! My first visit there i thought it was nice that they had the group combo thing there. I usually get shrimp and clams - cannonball- fire in the hole or spicy The sauce has more flavor here than at boiling crab. calamari. cajun fries. AND THE CLAM CHOWDER - sooooooo delicious. i love to dip my cajun fries in in :P You should order a glass of peach tea to keep you cool and refreshed here while stuffing your face with all this cajun goodness, it's sooo yummy! I feel a little more relaxed eating here than at boiling crab. I like the flavor of the crawfish here. Every place has its own flavor. I also like that they have menu sets just like Kickin Crab. I'd go here more often if it wasn't so far from my house. What a horrendous experience I had here. At first, I was content to see that the facility is pretty clean and big. We were seated after about 20 minutes then greeted with the most insincere, and frankly, bitchy waitress. I ordered a pound of shrimp (cannonball, medium) with a corn and a baguette. The shrimp was decently sized; however, they are stingy with the sauce so that you can order more for an extra 1.50... Yeah, no. Their sauce is on the thicker side, and it's good, but not impressive. We also ordered Cajun fries, which were crispy, but lacked flavor. The toasted baguette is actually two half baguettes so one would suffice two people. I usually like to dip the baguette in the leftover sauce, but the sauce was too thick and baguette too hard for this to be tasty. I was full after my meal, but definitely not happy. The worst part is that the friend I had gone with and I both got FOOD POISONING from this place. Not only that, but the prices are more expensive than other seafood places like this and the quality is disappointing. Why did I even think this place would be a good idea? read more

He went to the rest room and before he left he saw the table has been cleaned up and he thought i already grabbed his wallet on the way out. I really like their fried tilapia. I could describe it as fish & chips, but the batter is slightly spicy and works great. The fries are spiced up and good too, this must be about the best fish & chips I've ever had! I also had the jambalaya here, which didn't blow me away, but it was very nice for sure. I have to say that this place is so good. I am usually skeptical about places that offers the same menu like Boiling Crab because they may not live up to my expectations. TO my amazement, their sauce is better than Boiling Crab, the garlic are chopped and minced in really small pieces that you the taste is so ingrained in the sauce. Also, there is no wait, and the servers are really nice and keep coming back to refill our drinks. It is also not loud and you can carry a decent conversation, anybody who has been to Boiling Crab knows how loud it is, crowded and bad the service is. I am definitly not coming back to Boiling Crab anymore, from now on this is where we are going to get our seafood fix. The Calamari is delicious too and very generous in serving...I wish there is better rating than five stars because this place deserves ten stars!!!!! read more

Why?! Why, did I eat so much?! I find myself internally screaming this after a meal out with my girlfriend. We just happen to go to places with large portions. We have impeccable taste buds, so I always finish my order, then help with hers. There lies the problem, well, first step is admittance or some shit right? She had a very spicy jambalaya which made me a king on the throne later that night, but I was dumb & tried to elliptical after stuffing myself with rice & shrimp. Super fucking spicy, it's been a long time since a restaurant kicked my ass, and I've been eating Korean like a villain! I had the seafood fried rice, nice red oil everywhere. What I got/get: Cajun fries Shrimp (Cannonball aka the whole shi-bang, mild) with corn and sausages Strawberry lemonade The good news: I highly recommend this place as an alternative to Boiling Crab when you don't feel like waiting for 2 hours. I came here on Valentine's Day and only waited 5 minutes! The menu's similar to BC but has a bit more variety. The shrimp is definitely bigger than BC so that's a plus. The refillable strawberry lemonade is very tasty too! They also offer a few combo deals which can be good for groups. I didn't have a problem with the service either...it was busy but they still checked back on us a few times to make sure we were doing alright. The bad news: I tend to like my sauce a little thicker and the sauce here isn't as thick as BC's, which means you just have to double dip your shrimp to get more flavor. Just a warning that the sauce is also a bit spicier. I was a little upset to find out that they don't offer half a pound, but I just ended up getting a pound and going home more full than usual :) read more

Came here on a Saturday night for my mom's birthday because we wanted to try some other place than Boiling Crab. I'm pretty skeptical trying similar boiling crab places because they tend to not be as good but I was pleasantly surprised with Claws. There was no wait and plenty of parking when we arrived. I liked how they had the combo deals. We went with the 5LB meal deal which came with 5LBs of seafood and 3 choices of appetizers. They charge you extra to separate the types of seafood in different bags. We got 3LBs of shrimp, 1LB of clams, and 1LB of crawfish. The crawfish was kind of on the smaller end and they charge $1 extra for the live crawfish -- which i thought was kind of weird. I love getting clams at these places but I feel like its never worth it because you basically just get a bag of shells! We went with the cannonball seasoning and i would say it was pretty close to the boiling crab flavors! For the appetizers we got the chicken rolls, the bacon wrapped shrimps and cajun fries. The fries were fried to perfection, where they were soft and crispy at the same time YUM! The bacon wrapped shrimp was to die for they had a cheese filling with honey mustard too bad there were only like 4. Our server recommended the chicken rolls and they were just okay, sort of like an egg roll with chicken in them, eh. Overall I liked this place and would come back! read more

I've never been to Boiling Crab, so don't expect this review to be a comparison of the two. I can say though that if BC's shrimp is anything like Claws, then I've tasted enough lol. The first time that I came here, I was amazed. Lobster bibs? Eat on the table? Pounds of seasoned shrimp? Every messy boy's dream! I don't remember exactly what flavor shrimp I ordered, I just remember that it had garlic. Lots and lots of garlic...(which isn't a bad thing at all.) We also ordered crawfish or whatever they're called, which proved to be a mistake. They were pretty much meatless. Whomp! All in all, the experience was good enough for a second trip. The second time that I came here (around 9..which I guess is close to closing), things were less enjoyable. Our waitress forget to put our order in and the shrimp was not completely cooked. I've had shrimp PLENTY OF TIMES to know what it's supposed to taste like. It was extremely soft and spongy like mashed potatoes. The green vein inside didn't make the situation any better. Appetite = ruined. Claws isn't a bad place by any means, but I suggest not going close to closing. read more

Half the restaurant is vacant in seating, but had to wait 45 minutes to get seated. Why? On a saturday? Management, take note of this because you will loose money trying to save money on the wrong part. Saving labor doesnt mean saving profit when youre loosing sales. My absolute favorite Cajun shrimp place, better than the other place down the street! You have to get the cannonball seasoning with whatever spice you can handle. Their oysters are always fresh, Cajun fries are delicious and crispy, and their fish tacos have a great taste! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Not once did she come to our table and ask if we needed anything. The food is def nothing to write home about. what we ordered: 1. Cajun Rolls- This was by far the best part of the meal. They were fried just right. Filled with cheese and meat. Pretty good. If you end up trying this place out I would def recommend these. 2. Crawfish- These def didn't meet my expectations. This was the best part of the seafood we ordered. They were not overcooked and they were a pretty decent size. Def would recommend these. 4. King crab legs- UHHHH yea..for 21.99 I expected an actual king crab leg..There was nothing king about these legs..They were really small compared to what I have had at boiling crab and crab pot. They also tasted old and they were overcooked. Def save your money and pass on these. 5. corn- We ordered two corns (.75 each) we only received one in the bag so I didnt get a chance to taste these but my GF said they were pretty good. Didnt even check the bill to see if i was charged for the second one. We were just so disappointed with the food we were ready to get out of there. 6. Potatoes- We also order two Potatoes and uhh yeaaaa...save your money and pass on these.. 7. mango ice tea- This was actually really good. i've been here about 5 times or so i always get the shrimp and i've tried the mussels, the king crab and the snow crab, along with the fries, sweet potato fries, shrimp egg roll the garlic bread, baguette bread i loveeeeeeeeeeeeee shrimp that being said i've tried it here cannonball xxx and just spicy, xxx is definitely very hot on the mouth, but nothing i couldn't handle, spicy is at a very average level for me, but with the cpy i go with that's about as far i can order the spice... the mussels i'm not a big fan of juss cuz fishy stuff really isn't my thing...but i think it's pretty good just be warned in the bag you'll find empty shells and the mussels floating around in the sauce also the sausages absolutely the bomb!!! I think i haven't had better sausages at any of the other locations cajun fries aren't bad just a bit too much so not a bad side dish the sweet potato fries are good but only fresh my advice don't order them to go the garlic bread was literally 6 thick slices a tad much for just two people to split, the baguette is nice and warm and great to soak up the sauce, i have to admit the sauce here is really good definitely a place i like to go to, if it were in irvine i'd be going more often read more

I have gone to several establishments like this but this one is by far the best! Service was slow and I felt kind of ignored but the food was amazing. I ordered ship wreck as our aperizet and was delish, golden crispy heaven,calamari, shrimp, muscles. I also enjoyed a bowl of gumbo, so yum! I recomend the Canon ball sauce Medium, it had plenty of heat. I had 1lb of each craw fish and Clams. Too bad half the clams were empty :( Will defenetly be back next time to try more items. read more
