The food at this restaurant is amazingly delicious. Everything I've ordered throughout the many years visiting have been the best. All entrees have been seasoned to perfection !. The shrimp on a skewer the steaks are made perfect and so fresh. the taste is special. The salads they serve have the best blue cheese ever . They are also famous for their pickled red cabbage salads. Lots of people I see stop by and order salad and cabbage to go. Its their special cabbage. their cheese bread is superb !! The baked potatoes are also a specialty of their's with great fillings to order. I love their cheese butter!! The fish, Grilled Halibut and Mahi-Mahi are fresh and tasteful. I often stop by and eat by myself at the bar during the week. Had the filet mignon, huge baked potato, cesar salad and chocolate mouse cake and key lime tart. Everything was tasty. The vibe is dim/dark, quite and oldies music. Here's the sand in the clam: It was freezing in there at noon, the fireplace wasn't lit-guys, this is your jewel in the setting of the ring, show it off! Generous side of...cold purple cabbage...I would have liked it warm. Salad bowl was really shallow-like a salad saucer almost. Very few good solid vegetables like asparagus, broccoli, carrots anywhere on the menu. Bread was more chewy than fresh/crisp/hot. Steak was undercooked in half the length of it, so too rare and grisly, therefore CHEWY, this really surprised me. Steak combo with scallops means about 3 scallops-medium sized? My wife's portion of Sea Bass, was a portion and did not feel like a focal point or generous serving to her, but a side. The chives for the potatoes weren't fresh chopped but actually blended/grinded to a mush, food processor? Sour cream was more soupy than solid. I kind of expected crunchy big onions rings, these were more sauteed with a batter. Seems food preparation felt rushed. I prefer a big cup of water with a straw not a small decorative glass. Dehydration is my enemy. Pros: Baked Potatoes are really healthy sized. Water glasses were constantly filled! Lots of smiles from all staff. Low lighting with artwork is intoxicating and charming. My wife's sea bass had good flavor. Low stimulus and low noise was really nice. My wife loves the place-so that is the main pull. This place is such a vibe! Very much like other Clearman's I've been to but this place has a little more of a classier feel. Dimly lit, very cozy and fun decor. Even includes a fountain right in the middle of the restaurant. We came for their Sunday bottomless mimosa brunch. What a deal! $40 a person, 3 course pre fixed menu, with bottomless mimosa, champagne, wine and fruit juice. Let me tell you, when they say bottomless, they really mean it! Our waiter, Albert was amazing! He was courteous and attentive and never let us get thirsty The food here was exactly what I'd expect from clearman's. Good steak, cooked and seasoned well. The interior reminds me of the Regal Beagle from Three's Company. This place is a literal time capsule. Very cool, medieval, rustic vibes. The cocktail lounge had live music. There was a fountain in the middle of the main dining room that reminded me of the Tiki Room at Disneyland. Albert was our server and he was awesome. All staff were friendly. Service was good, but did feel slightly understaffed for a busy Friday night. The food was tasty and plentiful. Seriously, come hungry. You get unlimited cheese breads which is like a Texas toast, delicious! Every protein selection comes with salad, red cabbage (which you add to the salad), several dressings come to the table in this tripod serving dish. You also get baked potato with another tripod of butter, cheese sauce, green onions, sour cream and onion rings. It was so much food! I could've easily shared a plate with the hubby and still brought home leftovers! My boneless prime rib was more on the fatty side, but huge, so there was plenty to eat. To start off, I normally go to Clearman's Northwoods Inn so I decided to change it up and try Steak N Stein. The menu differs from Northwoods and catered to my liking more. The menu at Northwoods has more sandwiches and handhelds compared to Steak N Stein that had primarily steak/seafood entrees which gave more steak options in a more affordable price range in my opinion. My fiance and I came here to celebrate his birthday. Our reservation was at 7:15pm, we checked in at 7:09pm, seated at 7:25pm. The entry way was full of people and unfortunately we were seated roughly around the time where parties of 8+ were being seated too, which definitely played into the part of our service for the rest of the visit. The ambiance here felt the same compared to Northwoods. It's dimly lit and had an intimate feeling, but definitely loud when the restaurant is packed. My fiance ordered the Clearman's combo that came with steak brochette, scallops, and chicken. I ordered the 20oz boneless prime rib. Each entree comes with a massive baked potato and onion rings which differs to Northwoods' baked potato and rice. Before entrees, the salad, cabbage and bread was served. The salad and cabbage came out in smaller dishes than Northwoods; however, the salad came undressed. They give you three dressings for your salad that you can serve yourself on the table: bleu cheese, ranch, and house dressing. We didn't receive our entrees until about 8:30pm. All dishes served are on a cart that the wait staff comes with for table side service. My fiance's entree was on a mini grill that was lit before serving for the last minute char and our baked potatoes are prepared right then and there too. It was definitely cool to watch the fire and having our potatoes prepared table side. The food came out really delicious and the portions are generous. Our waiter, Miguel, was also very kind and attentive. We wanted to order dessert which looked amazing everytime a dessert passed by, but unfortunately we were on a time crunch and had to leave at a certain time. Overall, our visit here was pretty good. Live music on weekends (bar area), an intimate feeling, and generous portions would definitely best describe the whole night. My only downside was the wait time of our visit. Came during dinela and ordered the salad with cheese bread and cabbage, the petite filet mignon and key lime pie. Candice was our server and she was fantastic! She was engaging and funny, made sure everyone got what they ordered. We were a party of 11 and she did a great job. The salad was ok, the cheese bread was the true star! The potato was gigantic and my steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare. I thought the key lime pie was also just ok imo. Clearman's Steak 'n Stein looks like an old time steak house time warped from what we stereotypically expect from the end of the 19th century.  It's a comfortable cocoon.  "Tiffany" glass lamps, lots of red pleather, "oil paintings", one depicting a Renoir style lady possibly habitué of the demimonde. So dark it takes the eyes time to adjust from the midday sun. 1) Big portion of grilled cheddar cheese, butter, garlic bread is tasty goodness to accompany the salad that comes right after.  2) Caesar Salad: Hearts of Romaine, dressed in mostly creamy Italian dressing. Sprinkled with dry, machine julienned parmesan cheese. I thought the regular salad with lightly brined & pickled red cabbage to be more refreshing that was ordered by Super Yelper Isobel L. 3 kinds of salad dressing enough for 8 people! 3) Calamari Fritti: Huge pile of ethereally light crispy, crunchy, thin fried batter surrounds meaty, moist, slightly sweet rings of squid tasting of fresh, untainted oil. Good cocktail sauce & lemon added gastrique to counter the oil & carbs.   Just out of the fryer. Best Calamari Fritti in ages. Used the 3 salad dressings for more varied flavours. Hats off to the fry chef. A must get if seafood is your thing.  4) Jumbo Scallops: I asked if I could have half of them fried & half grilled. Fried won out for the same reason as the Calamari. An aromatic herb batter was a nice, subtle touch. Grilled was ok but lacked that kiss of sea sweetness and texture was a bit stiff.  4a) Ginormous baked russet potato is squished, fluffed, cut, & opened so it can be stuffed with as many pats of butter as requested. Condiments of chopped green onion-cucumber mix; warm, cheddar, puréed vegetal sauce; thick sour cream.  I saved this to be eaten the next day converting it to a cold Vichyssoise soup for summer since the bread, salad, Calamari stuffed me up like the baked potato. I didn't need the side of clarified butter either that was included.  5) Rum Chocolate Sundae had two scoops of average vanilla ice cream, slug of Hershey's choco syrup, but the rum is a more neutral spirit that I couldn't taste it.   Perhaps bourbon with its toasty, vanilla, caramel, oaky, warm tones would have augmented better to the chocolate.  1-5) Standard iced tea which was constantly refilled by Alyssa who was spot on in her services...kind, thoughtful, attentive, efficient, unobtrusive.   Food here is done in mega quantities to show hospitality & generosity, but it also invites food waste in a world where many have food insecurity as well as inviting our waistlines to ever increasing horizons. Perhaps a quality not quantity philosophy would help us maintain better health.  Excellent Calamari & fried Scallops were the highlights. Not going to lie. It has been our tradition for over 7 years to come here for Valentines Day. This year was a complete let down. In the dining room that is. So let's start off with the positives! If I could rate just the bar (Matt, Edgar, Tiffany ,etc) they would get all 5 stars. They bust their butts back there and handle not only bar services but those dining in the bar area as well. Not to mention their patience and having to always be "on" personality wise. We should have just stayed and ate at the bar.....Matt was our server in the prior years a few times and was excellent. This experience we had Jessica in the dining area. She was nice and all but it just was a completely off experience. From the area we were in and asking for things we have always been accommodated over the years, she wouldn't and wouldn't even ask if they could. Then we have the Valentines special menu that whoever changed this menu should not be employed there any longer. No one cares about a long stem rose when you have taken out a desert course. One doesnt equal the other. Additionally the choices for the entrees have really no thought process. 20 0z prime rib? Lmao. On valentines? Who is downing 20 0zs of prime rib and not in a full ass coma? Lmao. I used to be able to get sea bass or my rib eye..... they no longer have the label of clarified butter. Its pads of butter and when u ask for more as its a rather large potatoes that is dry. Its like rationed to the point u feel like you're begging. We ended up not finishing half our meal. Potatoes were a no go with them being so dry and asking for butter we never got. What sucks is they made these changes to their menu and yet its still $90 per person $180 a couple before drinks. This year definitely not worth it. I've never had a disappointment in all the years coming here even before our "tradition" of valentnes. We used to watch here often. They renovated the bar area years ago and its great! But someone needs to come help them with the flow of the areas and with their menu options for such a popular "holiday". Its not like we are taking them off our list, but we will be either dining at the bar or looking for Matt. However, if the Valentines special menu doesnt improve, we will just be doing a la carte. We decided last minute to check this place out.To put it short, my husband was racially profiled at this establishment. We were told the wait would be 40 minutes and we sat down in the lobby waiting area for our turn. It was pretty packed and the majority were walk in like ourselves. Everyone was eventually seated and we were the last ones there. A party that f 4 comes in and were told the wait time would be 30 minutes. They waited 10 minutes and were then taken to a table meanwhile we were still there waiting. When we asked the hostess for an explanation she got really nervous when my husband felt the need to identify himself to show her he was not just a thug from the streets. She just said that her manager asked her to sit the other people before us. My husband is bald and it was our first time at this restaurant. I've been coming here since 1976. My family and I have enjoyed our birthdays here every year. I remember I used to always want to work at Clearmans because of the servers outfits and because everyone was so friendly. Well times have changed, but the one thing that hasn't changed is the friendliness and the amazing food and cocktails. They remodeled it and expanded it a couple years ago, it looks great! I came here with reservations on a Wednesday night with my best friend for DineLA. We were seated immediately and given both the regular and DineLA menu. The place is dimly lit and it was kinda hard to read the menu but were able to get over that. We both ordered a lemon raspberry drop martini, which was very generous on the liquor and we enjoyed it. We each got the clearmans house salad, which came with the best cheese bread and yummy red cabbage. Then my friend ordered the fliet mignon and shrimp, which was also cooked very well, to our specification, as well as the new York steak and scallops. I had the chocolate mousse cake and from experience, desserts are never good at steakhouses but this one was superb. One thing I will say, normally restaurants decrease the portion sizes on the plates for DineLA but wow, Clearmans was super generous. The amount of food was massive and the food was delicious. There has never been a moment when I visit where it ends in disappointment. The service is fantastic, the food is delicious and beyond filling. All steaks come with a huge loaded baked potato and onion rings as well as a salad. My favorite of all things is that the Texas toast is bottomless. The whole vibe is dark and dim and a little throwback to a dark maroon 70's/80's feel. I've been coming here for years now, for many events and occasions. I never get tired of this place. Updating my previous review. Didn't realize it had been 8 years since I posted it and there are a few things to report as changed. First Kudis for surviving a pandemic. Many icons in the neighborhood didn't survive. The first obvious change is curb appeal. Some modest improvements with flower beds, lighting, and walkway paths from the parking. One primary entry towards the front - I will get back to that in a bit. The old bar has been remodeled. There used to be a little side dining area, a bar in the middle, and a lounge area by the vintage fireplace. Well no more- now you walk a small waiting hall to the hostess desk. Be careful it will be dark so if you have sunglasses on or it's bright outside give yourself some time to adjust. Otherwise, you may bump into a guest. To the left is a larger dinning area with a music stage - so consider that the lounge area for date nights. The bar is in the middle with a counter and a few high stools. By the fireplace, it's now all the dining area. I would guess that the new config optimizes the number of available tables for full-on dining. Service is still warm classsy and friendly. Ashley was a great host. Now the food. No downgrades in the quality of the ribe eye. Our absolute favorite here. Cheesebread is classic. Now the salad. Iceberg lettuce, crisp and fresh, with crunchy croutons. But the best is the dressings. Blue cheese, Ranch, and Fench. Here is my suggestion, mix in some of the purple cabbage salad and then smother with blue cheese dressing. Yum yum. Don't go over medium on your steak. Trust the chef. I just love that you can make reservations online which helps with wait times. So not only did they survive Pandemic they improved and bumped up my rating to 5 stars. Way to go. read more

It was our first time going here. We went here for my wife's birthday on a Thursday night at about 6pm, it was easy to get a table but the restaurant did start filling up as we dined. The service was good in general but other than the steak , the food was not good. The bread was super soggy completely soaked in butter, The salad was good and I did like the blue cheese dressing. But the baked potato was horrible, the green onion or chive topping that they served with it must have been rotten it was extremely bitter to the point it was not edible. I feel like whoever plated that should at least taste it to make sure they weren't bad. The cheese that they serve for the baked potato is some type of melted cheese but it tasted terrible it was like a bad can of nacho cheese and nobody at our table liked it. The server took our appetizer order of crabcakes but they never brought them out so we had to tell him and they removed it from the bill. But the server was attentive so I can cut him a break on that not a huge deal to forget something it happens. Went in expecting a nice classic steakhouse dinner but came away disappointed. read more

We always make reservations because this place is always hoppin! If you want a good steak, this is the place to go. I always choose the BONELESS RIBEYE STEAK medium rare. It comes with two kinds of salad, all the cheesy bread you can eat, onion rings and a baked potato. A lot of bang for your buck! They are served with multiple dressings and toppings, so many options! For the first time, we did have some over cooked steaks. We feel bad to ask for help but we always order medium rare and this was well done and tough. We had a big group and the place was pretty busy so I get that things happen. We felt a little friction from the staff but they made it right and we really appreciated that. Been going there for years....Unfortunately today was one not one of the good ones that I had to write a review. The food was on point....on the other hand the Service was Horrible. Our table was put together last minute, missing tableware....felt rushed when we were seated. Then when our waiter came he was not personable at all. Took more than normal to get our food out..when a large table was seated after us, ordered after us and still was served before us. Felt like he was only interested in helping big parties. I could see how attentive he was to other tables as I had to keep flagging him down to ask for missing silverware and beverage refills..never came back to ask how food was or if we needed anything and to top it off when we asked to a box he came back and it was rudely handed over. Came here for Wifes birthday even during reservation i put celebrating birthday....not even dessert was offered. Everytime I've dined here the waiter/waitress puts your leftovers away for you....still gave him a tip even though I felt like he definitely didnt deserve one! Do better Francis read more

The Ambiance, Decor & Vibe - 5/5 The Steak - 3/5 (*generous here!) The Cocktails - 4/5 The Salads - 3/5 Cheese bread - 3/5 Onion Rings - 3/5 I've wanted to try Clearman's Steak N' Stein for yearssss and finally found the right occasion to do so-- right before seeing TERRIFIER 3 at the Cinépolis Theater in Pico Rivera! LOL I'd read the mixed Yelp reviews and it made me feel better about Yelp in that the good, the bad, and the meh? All are spot on. There is much to like, even love about the place as they've done much to maintain the original 1946 exterior aesthetics, something I truly appreciate. The neon signs are humming, the building is a brick-by-brick treasure, the free parking is very much appreciated... Inside? The whole vibe changes somewhat to something akin to old bordello as you enter and walk down a long hallway that runs parallel to the bar, where live music happens and after work singles congregate. The dining rooms are still a warm reddish, kitschy wonder, what with the original water-streaming fountain still in the middle of the room surrounded by large rustic tables below illuminated but tacky paintings in the dark dark dining rooms... I guess the problem for me was the featured item: The Steak. My date who likes filet mignon and I agree to share the $119 Tomahawk Steak with the insulting "sharing fee of $10" added on that. First off, a Tomahawk is a steak dish MEANT TO BE SHARED! I mean, it advertises that it's 34 Oz and w all the salads and bread and potatoes and onion rings? Who is going to order that all for themself? They should just price it $129 if that's how they are going to be. Second, if that was 34 Oz, I'm a billionaire. It might have been raw and with bone but what you get tableside? A hard to cut extremely fatty steak with maybe 12-15 Oz of meat, which wasn't very flavorful or of a nice consistency... I'll stop now and will try regular cuts of steak one more time in the future to make sure this was not just a poor showing on the restaurant's behalf. Everything else food-wise is serviceable to good. Loosely fried thin style onion rings are not my favorite style but they are appropriate and appropriately prepared to ride shotgun to a side of beef. The potato was good, comes with all the fixings. I'm a sucker for cheesbread and garlic bread of any type but this barely earned a thumbs-up... it's pretty regular bread, sliced and slathered, so it was tasty enough as I hadn't eaten all day. All in all, for $200 w tax and tip, you can do a similar and much better meal at The Smokehouse in Burbank and, if you are willing to pony up more money, go to The Dal Rae as it's terrific on all fronts and also in Pico Rivera. Service was very good here and deserves mention. read more

If you're looking for delicious oversized, baked potatoes, and steak, definitely recommend coming here! The ambience is very welcoming. It is a little darker than other steakhouses inside, but other than that everything was delicious our waiter was super friendly. Perfect for date night or any other occasion ! read more
