I moved to Mountain View 3 years ago from Richmond. Out my way in the East Bay there are some real good fish and chicken spots but after today I have to put Clifford's on my top 3. I got the 3 piece fried catfish, collard greens, Mac&cheese, honey glazed biscuits and red velvet cake...all I can say is that everything was on point and beyond. I ordered a 2-pc chicken meal and the flavor of the chicken was pretty good. The chicken thigh was a little over cooked and therefore a little dry, however. The French fries were nice and crispy. I will go there again. read more

Good news is that you can substitute green salad for french fries. Also, tonight we tried their chicken tenders - very generous in size. Bad news - their online prices are $1 more than at the store. Plus they charge a convenience fee for ordering online - about 1.5%. So you can save some money ordering at store and waiting or dining in. Good: Chicken was just ok. Not super crunchy or flavorful. Just salty. Also had the catfish which tasted fishy. Shrimp, fries, honey biscuit all decent. Collard greens only ok. Not enough ham hock flavor. I think they need to work on service execution. For example the food took about 20-30 min to come out. We decided to dine in but didn't have any plates! Instead we were given small a la carte paper trays which were far too tiny. Also the cashier was unclear as to which dishes came with sides. We were told that the chicken dinner came with biscuits when none were provided. Maybe they are still working out the kinks given that they've only been open for six weeks. Ambiance was fine. Ambiance - I've dined at the location since the 70s when it was El Calderon. They have brightened up the space but it is small inside. Limited tables inside and out fill up fast. Service - life key register/counter service . They are still fairly new (I think about one month) so still working some things out but overall really nice staff and service I do wish when dining in your food was not boxed and bagged as if to go . It would likely reduce their costs and create a lot lest water paper and compostables. Fried is best hot out the fryer. No matter how you package it it will steam and loose crispness in buckets and boxes . The food was really good - moist, great flavor. We had a mixed chicken bucket, tenders, shrimp, cole slaw, Mac n cheese and biscuits. All delicious and well prepared . The honey hot sauce is so good. read more

What a local gem. I travel all over the Bay Area and beyond for work and the food here was one of the most impressive lunches I've had in some time. Very well seasoned chicken tenders, perfect macaroni and fries, and the cornbread was nice and fresh. Snuggled into a little strip mall this offers a wonderful taste of the South. A small plain no frills restaurant with a small menu of fried chicken, fish, and shrimp with perfect chips (crispy on the outside soft on the inside). For me, fried chicken and the sides were not any special. I would have been fine eating KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken). Chicken were over fried and I did not feel chicken had any special flavor. Nothing special to mention for services. The place is located on old town Mountain View neighborhood. Prices were not cheap, I thought they were in expensive side for KFC type food. read more

Wonderful, best fried chicken in town. Chicken was crispy on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside. Batter could have used a pinch more salt and pepper to bring out the flavor. Good serving of French fries with order, but they were limp, not crisp like a fry should be. Biscuit was good, large in size, but a little on the heavy side, couldn't finish the whole thing. Ordering was easy, staff was very friendly, restaurant was clean. Chicken took about 15 min to cook... made to order (not made ahead of time and sitting under a heat lamp like KFC or Popeye's). Worth the wait. I'll be back again for more chicken and look forward to trying their other side dishes... and maybe a dessert! read more

I gave this place 4 stars, but I'd really like to give a 3.5. It is a great spot if you're up to some greasy fried food. The reasons for not giving a higher rating are that it's not a place I'd enjoy eating in at, it's pretty run down, and, as mentioned in another review, the batter is a little lacking in flavor. This can easily be remedied with a little salt. I tried the fish and chips, onion rings, and artichokes. I'd take a pass on the artichokes and the chips. If you get your fish a la carte (without the chips/fries), an order of onion rings and blot off excess oil with napkins or paper towels, then salt to taste, you suddenly have a 4 or 5 star meal of fried goodness. Yeah, the tartar sauce and ranch dressing are straight out of a big bulk food service jug, but the onion rings were devine and the fried fish more than acceptable. read more

Chicken was real good real crispy and flavorful. Cold slaw was actually really light and good considering i don't even like cold slaw. Collard greens were different i do have to say they are more on the vinegary side so do keep in mind it is a quite different taste. Mac and cheese could use a tad bit more flavor but overall not bad. read more

Distinctly mediocre fast food. KFC does chicken way better (if you are into fast food), and the "fish and chips" have hardly anything in common with their UK original. Did uber eats pick up- i guess anyone can walk in the store and grab pick up orders for free! My order was picked up by someone else. The staff apparently didn't check any details before letting them pick up it seems. let me just start by saying I'm disappointed. I'm not disappointed with the quality, but I am disappointed with the quantity. However, with that being said, it can be subjective. I stated in a comment before that I was coming to visit this establishment again with my family, so I came back on Friday and ordered an array of dishes from the catfish, seafood platter, chicken family pack, and lastly, a numerous amount of sides. The food was eaten with nothing to spare. We sat at the table and we were cleaning off our fingers with our tongues, trying to get the last bit of flavor that we could. With all of us at the table and with a satisfying pallet, i've then realized where my disappointment came from. This came from not realizing at the time that the portion sizes could have been a little bit larger, I wish I would have paid more attention to how much was given, because we ate that food so fast, and it was so delicious/delectable/flavorful I was not aware. Just had our first meal at Clifford's and it was delicious. I had the two piece chicken that came with a yummy, moist, biscuit and a ton of crispy fries. My husband got the cat fish and it was yummy. He loved the biscuit. I have to say that the chicken was so good and moist and perfectly seasoned. We also ordered their collard greens and red beans with rice and both were equally good. The service was friendly and fast given that our meal was cooked on the spot to order. I highly recommend Clifford's and hope you give this entrepreneur a try and you won't regret it. I saw a post about Clifford's on Nextdoor and decided to try Clifford's today. We ordered a four-piece chicken meal and placed our order online, as the reviews recommended. Our chicken was soggy and dripping with oil and not krispy or crunchy. I believe this was because it was in a box tied up with a plastic bag. We received a handful of fries and no biscuits. The flavor was good; it was disappointing that the food differed from most reviews. Outside seating was ok; the staff seemed frazzled. read more
