This is the coolest place in Mammoth for apres libations. My buddies and I have been coming here for years. It has changed a bit over the years, but at its heart, it's still the same ol' Clocktower. In it's present incarnation, it is a whiskey bar, with over 100 different whiskies from which to choose I come for the beer, and there was a time when this was the only place in town to get something other than a Macro-brew. They always have a decent selection of domestic craft brews, German, British, and Belgian Imports. They always have PBR on tap if you prefer weak yellow beer. The also have a few bottles of Bud Lite for the girls and girly-men. They also serve wine and its not cheap crap. They were pouring William Hill Cab on my last visit. Over the years, their small kitchen has been open and closed. It is presently open, and they are putting out some tasty burgers and other sandwiches. Food means that kids are now allowed in...oh, well. The juke box is packed with Old school Punk, Classic Rock, and 80's and 90's indie rock. I always play Cake's "Stick Shifts and Safety Belts" on the first night and The Rev. Horton Heat's "Eat Steak" on the second night. If you hear one of those playing, look for me at the bar! read more

This was my favorite hang out. The only downside was their early last call well before the stroke of midnight. Boooooo! Not on a weekend night! They had a great selection of domestic and imported draft beers to keep me busy. Good stuff. I can't wait to come back and play some pool. Walking in here was like walking back ten years of my life into a favorite college bar. The air was damp with a musty smell (too much snow from outside melting on the floors), the boys were young, plentiful and mountain fresh and all they serve here is beer and wine. Ski Lodge rock was playing loud over the jukebox speakers (yeah I'm talking to you Nickleback) ...and a sit-down Ms. PacMan! Sigh.... All the locals come here after a day of work up on Mammoth and the place clears out and moves on to another pub across the street around midnight. It's laid-back and no frills so if you really want to get a taste of the real mountain flavor, head down (literally, its in a basement under the Alpenhof Hotel) and have a few of the ridiculous many choices of beers (My fav name: Pink Elephant). read more

This has to be the local hangout because everyone knew everyone. The place was packed. Huge crowds on the Foosball table, drinks flowing with the dozens of beers they had on tap. The place felt like it was out of Animal House with the empty kegs just stacked by the door and the roof adorned with keg tops. There were great couches everywhere as well as plenty of seating, which was pretty cool in the little cozy spot such as this. Great little basement bar in Mammoth. Great beer selection and a nice staff. They even have a pool table. We spent a couple hours here on one of our nights in Mammoth and I was very happy. The beers run from the expensive and strong micros down to the lowly but favorite PBR. In a town like Mammoth with the SoCal vibe, this place is decidedly more low key and chill. There was definitely a locals vibe in this place. I'd for sure hit this place on another trip out to Mammoth. read more

First time visiting the Pub, we were greeted by Alejandro Urquidy and made us feel at home, great customer service, the food was really good, had the lamb burger, the carne asada tots and chicken strips. This is the best bar I've been into, ever. I've come to this conclusion for a variety of reasons. The most important, of course, is the beer selection, particularly what is on tap. My last trip up there found me with a pint of Hoegaarden. I've downed barley wine there before. They usually have at least three local brews on tap. At the same time, they have the cheap stuff that many people are stuck on. Next reason this place rocks: the people. Maybe it's because of the heavy dose of level-headed locals, but I've never been in here and not had interesting and friendly conversation with someone else at the bar. I think part of the reason for this is because it's not a pick-up joint. This isn't a place to score a one night stand, but to hang out with friend and down a pint or two or .... The laid-back atmosphere means you can enjoy yourself. The bartenders rock. They know their stuff. They don't pour a Belgian into a stein, they know how to treat all the brews they have. I've never felt put-off by any of them, no matter how busy. And they can offer good suggestions in navigating through their massive selection. And finally, the environment itself. The basement location is nice. All the games, from foos ball to pool to video games. And the music on the juke box has some old school classics like Fugazi as well as more recent stuff to please the younger folks. read more

Pros: great whiskey reccomendations, timely food service, a good divey feel but not creepy for 2 females, local hangout (all very nice), food was delicious (ordered the beef quesadilla which had thinly cut slices of beef - different and amazing) kudos to chef Bryce Cons: last call at 11, sausage fest (if you're into that) Overall a great place to enjoy a variety of whiskey and have some laughs. There is nothing special about the bar itself and it's outdated TV's but the jukebox has an endless selection and the beer almost matches it. At first I saw 4 taps and it wasn't until a minute later that I saw how many taps they had and most were craft beers, some that I've never seen before at a bar. The bartender cracked my friend's ID and said it was fake. It was not. When he checked it with the machine he realized his mistake and was extremely rude about it. Told him to take better care of his ID, buddy you were the one who cracked it. He also never apologized and refused to even give us a beer on the house. The rest of the night he continued to give us terrible service and I usually don't care if a bar doesn't have good service I get it, but this was a whole other level of weird. Like blatantly ignoring me when I was the only one waiting to order a beer. He could have just apologized and everyone would have moved past it but he never did, when he was clearly in the wrong. The other bartender who was working was extremely nice to us and I feel bad she has to work with that idiot. However, I do think I got some money off my tab, but I don't know which bartender did that. I'm guessing it wasn't the one I'm complaining about. read more

Wow, the German Reuben is quite the impressive display. It's one of those items that makes everyone around you look over in awe and say, "I'll have what he's having." Not even close to the best Reuben I've had, but for the price, portion, and location, it's hard to top. I also really enjoyed the atmosphere here. Wine and beer only - this is where the locals go because the tourist have no idea it exists! Kidding; this bar is literally in the basement of the Alpenhof Hotel on Minaret - don't let the Google map fool you; it's right across the street from the village. The bar is full of the young set having beers, shooting darts, playing pinball and hanging out. It's got a great vibe, is super laid-back and is sort of a secret hiding spot if you don't want to deal with the escalating so cal vibe of Mammoth's nightlife. As a bonus, they sell some fine Belgian ales. Look for the door on the side of the building, and watch your step on the stairs or you'll make a grand entrance! read more

Perfect. If you looking for a locals type hangout with classic ski bum style, Clocktower is your best bet. In full disclosure, I have yet to experience Clocktower during the winter, however I can attest to the summer greatness. Chris, the bartender/manager, is insanely intelligent, with his finger on the pulse of real. His dog Kayla, an older yellow lab, lays calmly near the jukebox (which happens to be the best in town). You won't find anything fancy here; they only serve beer and wine, plus sake. You won't be comfortable walking in, but you'll have a group of best friends walking out. read more

I was just up there the Sunday before MLK Jr. Day. I went in there with a group of friends to celebrate my birthday. The bartender Kyler was super knowledgeable about their huge whiskey selection. The other guy behind the bar, I think he was the manager, was also super awesome. I will not be going anywhere else next time I'm in Mammoth. Very cool dive bar across the street from Mammoth Village. It's easy to miss, as it's tucked away under the Alpenhof lodge. Just head downstairs using the door on the side of the building. The pub is a bit dark and dingy, but has a lot of personality, from the table of shame with all the confiscated fake I.D.s to the bottle cap ceiling over the bar, it's a lively place to hang out after a day on the slopes. Me and my fiancé spent about 600$ at this bar tipped well, the bartenders were nice enough, but my drivers license and id had slipped out of my sweatshirt pocket onto the floor in between a wall and high top table, when I returned the next day on New Year's Eve, the gentleman at the front desk told me there's no I'd or debit card I said what had happened, then a younger gentlemen shouted at me "there's no ids down there, I'll double check what's the entire name?!" Apparently there was a private party down there. The guy never let me explain what happened neither of them listened to me. I couldn't get in anywhere on Near Years eve. My drivers license and debit is probably still down there, and I strongly dislike this bar for treating me poorly. read more

I love this place. The food is delicious and the drinks are strong. The staff is awesome, the owners are genuinely good people, and it's right across from The Village. The town trolley stop is very close, so if you don't want to drive you don't have to. If you don't like crowds, I'd recommend going earlier or on a week night as it can be pretty crowded on weekends. read more

Stopped in the Irish bar across the street for a beer and asked the bartender where to find a punk rock juke box in town. Without hesistation, he suggested the Clocktower Pub just down the street. We decided to make that a stop on the next night's events. Upon arrival, we noted the cozy feel and good vibe of the place. "Beer and wine does me fine but it doesn't always do..." Good thing they had Lagunitas Brown Shugga on tap: 9.99 % abv works for me. They had a very large craft beer selection, both on tap and in bottles. Large enough to keep any beer snob happy. The staff was great and were happy to talk about the beers and ans any questions. We'll def be back next time we're in Mammoth. read more

Lesson of the day: there's only 1 cook in the kitchen. Aka, if you overwhelm him with 8 orders of food from your rowdy crew (5 burgers, 1 reuben, 1 pulled pork and 1 chilli cheese fries), it's gonna take heck a long time to get your food. But while you wait, there's a gazillion (yes that's the exact count) different whiskeys to appease anyone's palate on call. My BF said he even saw a Blue Label hanging out in the back. Decent pours at reasonable prices. If you're not a whiskey fan, there's also plenty of draft and bottled beer options and other liquors. I am very disappointed in this pub. I came into the pub with moderate expectations of enjoying myself but it turned out to be the opposite of that. I felt very uncomfortable around the staff who were very rude to me and the group I was with. I will never come back to this establishment. The entire staff was very rude to us and they had awful customer service. Coming from out of town It had made me feel as if I had ruined one of my vacation nights. I ended up here because Petra's was closed, but I don't regret it! I was a little skeptical of them having a decent dinner menu, because it just feels like a very stereotypical bar. Fortunately, I was pleasantly surprised! The have quite a few things on draft, a huge whiskey selection, and the food was pretty good :) The ambiance is exactly that of a typical sports bar. Jukebox, dimly lit, pool table, mini arcade area, with wall-to-wall liquors displayed. They have 3 tap stands with a large selection/variety of drinks, including several ciders. There are a couple TVs, including a huge one that was showing the hockey playoffs Drinks? It's a bar. What do you expect. The bartender seemed like a pretty typical guy, and he was rambling a little bit about his love of whiskeys. Food? The "dinner menu" was a lot of bar-food and appetizers, but I got the Philly steak sandwich, and it was awesome! Definitely a manly-entree (very meaty, very cheesy, huge, and messy). The fries that came with is were seasoned and pretty good as well. For a late week night, it had a decent # of people. I dunno what to say about this place... a few mixed feelings, but in the end I always come back. Must be because there aren't too many choices... here are my thoughts: Likes: 1) convenient location and if you come around 6pm, there is parking available. The pool table is usually crowded but you can find your way to play foosball no problem. 3) a wide assortment of beers and whiskey spirits if you are into those drinks. Who knew there is a clear whiskey? Called New Try, but don't. it wasn't good. dislike: 1) closes at 10pm-ish... really? I guess you need to come in early to enjoy the join. It gets pretty busy around 8pm anyways. 2) pretty crowded and hard to get a drink at the bar... why they don't have another bartender on weekends, I don't know. *in the end... where else can you go and walk in casually, and meet up with friends for a few rounds with some foosball to play? the Clocktower isn't a miss, but it's A-OK. read more

I want to give Clocktower five stars... really I do. They have an enormous assortment of rare and exciting beers and spirits. The bartender Kyler(sp?) was incredibly knowledgeable and knew how to handle the diverse crowd of locals and visitors for the long Valentine's / President's Day weekend. I wanted a beer, but was uncertain of what to order. He asked me, "tell me if you were going to drink the perfect beer right now, what would it be and how would it taste?" I thought that was a terrific approach. Unfortunately for me (and my boyfriend at that point), I was totally bonking out for lack of food and was pretty much unable to articulate speech. So I rolled the dice and just said, "i'll try the German tap over there... the blue one!" Kyler obliged and said it was a great choice. In my low blood sugar induced fog, I couldn't fully appreciate the bottle caps of a million beers on the ceiling, coolly arranged, or the intimate vibe of the place which seemed a favorite among Mammoth locals. That said, the beer was super good, and I plan to return... after a nice meal... so I can sit back, imbibe, and add another star. read more

Love this bar. This is the go-to bar when going out on the town in Mammoth. Drinks are standard bar drinks but nothing fancy. Prices are average. Pool tables and PAC man arcade game. There's also a few books to read including a bible lol The only real downside is that they only have one bathroom stall for the ladies and they close at midnight...last call is at 11. Everyone usually meanders over to Lakanuki once Clocktower is closed. read more

A bunch of the locals recommended this spot to us, so that's always a good sign. It's located in the basement, so it can be a little tricky to find, but is well worth the trip for happy hour. After a few rounds of super cheap whiskey and beer, we were all pretty hungry and went overboard on the happy hour corndogs and "tachos" (tater tot nachos). It could be the booze or the full day on the mountain talking, but we thought they were both the best things we'd had in a long time. read more

Great dive bar right in the Village at Mammoth. Was there after a four day backpacking trip and even with our ravenous hunger, we couldn't eat all that was served to us. Good selection of beers on tap, but the barkeep working that night didn't seem to know much about them. Not a problem for me since I knew most of them, but it was a bit embarrassing to sit at the bar with my friend and watch her sort of make stuff up or say "I don't know" over and over when asked about the beers. If you're working the bar at a place that has 30 taps, you ought to know a bit about them! The whiskey and hard liquor selection was AMAZING. Sadly, we were not up to the task that night, but they had a truly amazing selection. Whistlepig, Ardbeg, you name it, they had it. The tot-chos are as advertised and ridiculous. Reuben was decent, though it's made with "deli-style" thin-sliced pastrami. That may or may not be your thing. Pretty rad CD jukebox with a decent selection (Run DMC, CCR, Beastie Boys, Bowie, etc). Kind of a relic since most places are turning to mp3 on demand boxes. Was cool to see some hand-written labels of burned mix CDs :D They had a couple of TVs and were playing baseball and UFC. read more
