I got in after the kitchen was closed, sit on the bar. I asked the bartender if they still serve food, he run to the kitchen and got me soup. Chicken and bread for free. Make sure you get in early for happy hour, they go by a clock on the wall that seems to be running a bit fast (by about 15-20 minutes). Still we did manage to get our order in and enjoyed the early evening deals. Beers are $2 off the list price, and they have a good selection. There are also cocktail and whisky specials, which is appropriate since they have tons of whiskeys. For food, we had the fish tacos, quesadilla and fish a chips, all $5 a plate during happy hour. The consensus favorite was the fish tacos, but I did like the fish and chips as well. It is a divey spot that harkens back to Mammoth's non-Corporate beginnings. read more

Great dive bar that's right across the street from the village. They had a good selection of beers on tap and daily happy hour 4-7. Unforunately, I missed HH but prices are good for the area. We got some tots and the house cheese sauce was a great pairing with the tots. They were perfectly crispy and soft inside. Food came out super fast too. Mammoth restaurants best kept secret. Walk downstairs into a fun little dive bar but be prepared to pleasantly surprised by some delicious food. Chef Trey whips up notable taste far bigger than his little kitchen. The sous vide chicken bowl over rice or cabbage is topped with a salsa fresca with depth in spice. Delicious and healthy! The wagu burger is the best burger on the mountain. Best of all, Chef Trey comes out to check how you are doing and for feedback. His electric smile is backed by a clear passion for his culinary art. In mountain towns where people give moderate service, it's refreshing to see someone genuinely concerned for your experience. Do yourself a favor by skipping the expensive restaurants for a night and treat yourself to Chef Trey. I'll bet you come back for seconds. We heard this place was okay and open until 9. My husband and I went inside to order drinks, my husband had to adjust his mask, and the bartender immediately barked at him and said, "Sir you need to have a mask on." It was obvious my husband had a mask on and was adjusting the tie in the back that came undone. Okay, fine. We ordered two overly priced gross drinks and food. We went on the patio and were drinking our drinks, and the same bartender called us up to get our food. My husband stood up without his mask on and the same dude barked and him again and told him to "put your mask on" in a very rude way. Dude, we're outside and you're not bringing our food to us. We walked in and ordered food. We didn't hear the buzzer- so we checked. The manager yelled at us and berated us for missing it. Then said they had been waiting for us for 30 minutes. We walked in 20 minutes prior so that was impossible . They didn't make the food we ordered and the manager told us to take what get. Great dive-style place with a terrific beer selection, and absolutely no pretension. My beer-loving friends and I arrived in Mammoth, and set out to share a good IPA. However, we found that many local places only carried a small variety of beers, and the resort didn't offer much choice (most everyone carried some of the local Mammoth Brewing Co. offerings). And twice when we ordered our beers, the kegs blew. It was enough to drive us to wine. But Clocktower Cellar Pub saved us. They had Sculpin, Lagunitas Brown Shugga, Green Flash IPA, and several other good/interesting but not geeky (like the Underground offers across the street) beers on tap and in bottles. I loved that their pub food took up just a page of their menu (in large type), but their wide selection of whisky and beer was lovingly detailed in much smaller print. They also pour a mean (aka, strong) cocktail at reasonable prices. Better yet, it's underground. And anything that's cool enough to be in a basement always gets my vote. read more

I had a good time playing pool and watching the game and I couldn't wait to bring more friends later that night. The only complaint I have is with the service. There is really only one bartender and one bar back. The bar back walks around kind of sluggishly but the bartender is on his game. I brought a group of friends and my mom came with us. She ordered 3 shots of whiskey and I guess the bartender misunderstood her-it was loud in there- because he came off really aggressive. His words were "I don't have time to bullshit- if you're not ready, I'll have to check with other customers and comeback to you." I know it's a bar but his lack of patience and language came off really unprofessional. I get it man, if they're slammed, which he said he wasn't, then you gotta be fast and hop around. My mom was confused and tried to give him the benefit of the doubt but he came back and repeated the order verbatim. So he did hear her. We wanted to spend the rest of the night there but he was so rude it really killed our buzz. So we went to the tiki bar down the street and had a great time. We are actually staying at the hotel connected to the pub, but we won't be coming back. I think the bartenders name was Kyle? Anyway. Worst bar I've ever been too. If you are not a local DO NOT GO. I went with some of my friends and if you are anything but over 50 years old and am a local they will screw you over. The bouncer roughs you up for how you look, and the bartender slipped something in my girlfriends drink and the rest of the night I had to continuously check on her and was scared for her, as well as the next day she was throwing up profusely. I believe something was put in her drink so DO NOT GO HERE. There is an excellent bar right across the street called the Lakanuki that has a DJ, good vibe bar and is the movement for people from out of town. The pub is located on the basement floor of the Alpenhof Lodge. It's very low-key bar with a good selection of beers on tap. Definitely a great place to just chill with friends. They have a jukebox, foosball table, pool table, darts, and Ms. Pac Man! Check the attitude at the door and just have a great time here with the locals. read more

He's telling customers how the bar buys some of their whiskeys at Costco, (if I was a total dick, I would call the local ABC inspector and have your license suspended, because that's clearly against the law.) This is the coolest place in Mammoth for apres libations. My buddies and I have been coming here for years. It has changed a bit over the years, but at its heart, it's still the same ol' Clocktower. In it's present incarnation, it is a whiskey bar, with over 100 different whiskies from which to choose I come for the beer, and there was a time when this was the only place in town to get something other than a Macro-brew. They always have a decent selection of domestic craft brews, German, British, and Belgian Imports. They always have PBR on tap if you prefer weak yellow beer. The also have a few bottles of Bud Lite for the girls and girly-men. They also serve wine and its not cheap crap. They were pouring William Hill Cab on my last visit. Over the years, their small kitchen has been open and closed. It is presently open, and they are putting out some tasty burgers and other sandwiches. Food means that kids are now allowed in...oh, well. The juke box is packed with Old school Punk, Classic Rock, and 80's and 90's indie rock. I always play Cake's "Stick Shifts and Safety Belts" on the first night and The Rev. Horton Heat's "Eat Steak" on the second night. If you hear one of those playing, look for me at the bar! read more
