Clover is very no frills, so if you are looking for something fancy or classic New Orleans, this isn't it. Still, this is a place I keep coming back to as the waitstaff is always friendly and inviting. Of the half dozen times I've come, I've only waited once to get a table as the turnover is fast. She gets mad and tell me that she put hand sanitizer on her hands. hand sanitizer is not water especially if you are in food service and touching food without gloves. A friend and I were trying to figure out what to eat (always an issue in terms of food options in this town) when we stumbled upon a list of the best diner in each state. Curiosity got us looking at Louisiana, and once we realized the recommended clover grill was right down the street, we hopped in an uber and were there in a jiffy and a half (it is in the French quarters after all). Is it dirty? Yes. Is it grimy? Sure. Is it grungy? Totally. Folks, this is not Commander's or Brennan's or any other number of institutions known for their crisp white tablecloths and upstanding wait staff. Know what you're walking into so your not surprised. This is fresh, hot, half pound burgers and other fried items cooked to order at any hour of the day. For my lunch, I enjoyed a very good burger with all the toppings along with some perfectly fried, piping hot tater tots on the side for a reasonably priced meal in the quarters. The staff appeared aloof, but answered kindly when I asked questions (they don't have their apparently awesome onion rings every day FYI this applies to all major events since it takes so long to to individually batter and fry them). Great "recovery" food ... Basically a step above Waffle House. The food is your typical breakfast diner food and thr experience the same as well. The daily breakfast special is a great variety for a hungry tummy. The burger is large enough to fill you up, but comes at a price. The Clover Grill is a real hole in the wall, but I mean that in a good way. You don't go there if you want a classy meal. They serve breakfast, hamburgers, club sandwiches and are open 24 hours a day. You might remember a scene in Benjamin Button when they show the window of a diner - that was the Clover Diner. We went there a few years ago when we were last in New Orleans. We had the same server as last time. Now, if you have not been there, understand they have about five tables and a counter. There is a flat-top grill behind the counter and a couple of deep fryers. They also have two waffle irons that appear quite old. You can feel the grease of years of frying and grilling in the air. And, if you walk back to the restrooms, the floors are a little slippery from the grease, so be careful. That all being said, their burgers are great. I had a hamburger with tator tots. The burger is about 1/2 pound, served with lettuce, tomato, mayo and onion. I was a little disappointed in the number of tots they give you - a little light I would say. But, on the other hand, the burger was so large that I probably couldn't have finished the tater tots had there been many more. They are in the French Quarter, so the prices are higher than I would expect in a diner like this elsewhere. But, as far as French Quarter prices, they are still on the low end. read more

If I could give negative stars, I would. Not even because of the food, I never even got far enough with the staff to try it. Its a crammed little restaurant that clearly needs a visit from the health department, and the staff working were nothing short of RUDE. I tried to visit this place twice in 2 days, as I wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt after reading of all the great food reviews. The first day I went, it was crowded and they were clearly understaffed. The waiter didn't even get the chance to ask our drink order and we waited for 20 minutes. The second day, this morning (5/15/23), we entered the restaurant where an older female waitress with brown hair basically insinuated that she would either do something to our food, or make us wait a long amount of time. The building is small, and she was sitting at the stools (on the job might I add) while taking an order at the front table. My boyfriend and I simply walked past her taking the order (of course excusing ourselves for getting in the way), and she snapped on us! She called us rude and stated viscously "Remember, I am your server, you know." Insinuating that she would either do something to our food or make us wait to eat. We left to say the least. I don't usually leave reviews, as life is too short to be mad and rude to others. However, I wouldn't want someone to accidentally slip past her in the future end up with another bad experience, or purposeful bad food! If you are her manager and are reading this, even if she is the manager (I wouldn't be surprised she had that attitude like she was all that), shame on you. People like that should NOT be working in customer service. read more

Hamburger, hamburger. If that's what you want then this is your place. I've had burgers all over the USA and this is top three. Maybe it's the hubcap but the meat was so flavorful. My suggestion is to add cheese and chili. The chili is amazing. The thin fries are pretty damn good also. Only thing preventing a 5 star rating is the unavailability of milkshakes. They seem to be busy 24/7 and yes, I see they're known for being one of the only, if not only, places that are open 24/7. I'm amazed by the efficiency of this place. With just 2-3 employees, they do great. Restrooms are past the double doors (don't expect a hallway or room), restrooms are through the door, outside, shared with the establishment next door. Stopped here for our last meal before heading back to Utah. Ordered two egg breakfast with eggs OM. Didnt get any hashbrowns and eggs were too runny to eat. Server did say they only make them two ways runny or not. We ordered thee orders of fries and got two. Tables only sat up to four people. Seemed like the burgers were decent. Server was rude and not friendly at all. I realize they were busy and only had one server. Service was pretty quick and we were in and out in a half hour. No, the meat wasn't heated up and the toast wasn't in a burner waiting. I enjoyed talking to the server as they were very helpful with sharing info about other great places to eat. I didn't use the bathroom and can't comment on it. The cook came out to greet us as it was a slow period for them. There's not a lot of variety on the menu. However, you can customize what they do offer. Oh! They do not have a phone to take delivery or carry out orders. I think that's a plus in the way of not having to be left sitting forever for someone to show up to take my order. COVID has ruined a lot of businesses in the management and order of service. We stumbled upon Clover Grill their hours are adjusted so they aren't 24 hours like they usually are but they still took us around 10:45pm. Very itty bitty establishment with a simple menu. Our server was a young lady and so nice. They recommended the breakfast burger. My husband and I shared it. My daughter ordered a turkey club. It's made right in front of you and made so quickly, presentable, and super fresh. The cook chit chatted with us and it was a delicious and pleasant meal! Must try! read more

Easily the best menu in New Orleans. That has nothing to do with the food, if you've read it you know what I mean. You won't find fancy dishes here, this is straight up diner food and I have no problem with that. Whether it be a burger, fries, and a shake after a night of drinking (they are open 24/7) or starting the day off after a night of drinking and getting a chili omelet with a lot of coffee, there isn't a better value in the city. If it's not too busy and you take the time to interact with whomever is working, you're probably going to be entertained as well. More of a Happy Days type of place that caters to locals and tourists alike. Nothing fancy with the exception of a good crowd and good food. I ordered a Country Fried Steak with eggs, toast and hashbrowns. Felt like a typical down home kind of meal that is very filling at a reasonable price.
