What made this the best Hainan chicken? - value: we ordered the combo A which included two portions of the chicken rice and half a chicken, along with some pickled cucumbers, peanuts, and soup. For around $25 this value is insane! - quality: the ingredients were fresh, such as the chicken, roasted peanuts, and cucumbers. We ordered to-go and was late to pick it up by almost an hour due to traffic, and by the time I brought it home, IT WAS STILL WARM! - service: we ordered online and they called us personally to tell us they ran out of broccoli. They offered to replace it with another vegetable (green beans) even though it was more expensive. - taste: chicken was moist, green onion ginger sauce was packed with flavor that complemented the chicken and rice (could just eat it with plain white rice and it'd make a delicious meal), rice was full of chicken flavor and paired well with everything in the combo, and soup was clear and had great chicken flavor (tastes similar to the soup my dad makes). Overall the meal managed to taste delicious and light at the same time. The peanuts included in the combo was also the best roast peanuts I had in a while - salty and a little sweet. It was my first time here and my friend recommended it after a long day of studying. We went for an early dinner around 5pm. The inside has plenty of seating. My friend and I ordered the Combo A shared meal. It comes with half a chicken (both white and dark meat) soup, rice, roasted peanuts and cucumber, which was plenty of food for the two of us! I found out about Cluck2Go as a random recommendation for Hainan chicken while browsing Yelp for different food options. Curious name, but they have a lot of great reviews for Hainan chicken. It helps that it's way closer to me than Savoy Kitchen, the standard at which all Hainan chicken places in the San Gabriel Valley must be compared to. Hainan chicken: Savoy's chicken is still better, but this is still pretty good. Savoy has Cluck2Go beat on the tenderness and flavor, but Cluck2Go definitely provides more chicken than Savoy. And always get dark meat. 2. Rice: Cluck2Go definitely has the better rice. It's cooked in chicken broth and is good that my carb-free self couldn't help but keep eating this. Also got a lot more rice than Savoy. 3. Sauces: Their green sauce is pretty similar to Savoy's ginger sauce. Should've gotten extra sauce since it was free. 4. Everything else: Pickled cucumbers and chicken broth definitely outweigh Savoy's salad. Not much to write about service since everything is takeout. The hainan chicken here tops Savoy for me hands down. The chicken here is always moist and tender with a great skin that isn't too shrunken or overdone. The sauces are deliciously garlicky and ginger and pair wonderfully with the chicken. Lastly the rice is fragrant of ginger and garlic and has the essence of chicken. There's also the added bonus of chicken soup and some pickles veggies! While there are two other locations within driving distance to this location (Diamond Bar and Hacienda Heights) I believe this is the OG location that was once Man Chan Cuisine. I also think it is the superior location as the food here is more consistent for me than the other places where sometimes the rice isn't as fluffy or the chicken and soup can be a touch bland. They also now have a crispy version of the chicken available which is served with a sweet and sour sauce that is also quite delicious. They do close a bit early so make sure to check the hours. Here is my detailed comparison review: PROS The food quality was great The portions were larger than Savoy's. Free soup. Comes with pickled veggies. Fast ordering process by phone compared to Savoy This restaurant practices safe measures during these times DIFFERENCES Hainan chicken has three major components: chicken, rice, and sauce. Chicken Savoy's chicken is more tender. Cluck2Go gives larger portions, but their version is still good. Rice Cluck2Go has saltier rice, making it more flavorful than Savoy's. But Savoy's rice has more chicken flavor whereas Cluck2Go's tastes like soy sauce was added. The rice also isn't as fresh/soft. More chewy, if that makes sense. (pic attached) Sauces The orange sauce is more ginger based. I prefer Savoy's better. And their green sauce is similar to Savoy's scallion ginger sauce but not as blended (and similar in flavor but I prefer Savoy's too). I am a huge fan of Hainan chicken rice and Cluck2Go (C2G) is definitely my new fav. Yes, my vote goes to C2G over Savoy as the chicken is juicier and rice better seasoned. Sauces were also very tasty. They also have a "Combo A" which is perfect for groups of ~2 people. 2.5 for us including our little one which was plenty. Our little one devoured the rice/chicken! It's a very small place with about 5-7 tables. We went on a weekday and it was fairly busy during the lunch hour hence a small wait. We tried asking to switch the cucumber salad to the broccoli but they said we couldn't, despite it being the same price. I haven't been here in quite a while, but since I was in the area, I decided to visit again since my last experience is pretty yummy. At first, my wife freaked out because it's no longer in the same location from last time so she thought it closed. It's great to see that end up in a new location close by and has a bigger restaurant with similar prices from last time. My go to order is the hainan chicken with a mix of white and dark meat. It also comes with a generous side of rice and some chicken broth. Apart from the moist chicken and very delicious chicken flavored rice, It also comes with two sauces that are amazing. One is a ginger garlic sauce and the other is a sweeter ginger sauce. I always ask for extra because I like to use a bunch of sauce on the chicken. Overall, this new location is nice, the service is fast, and the food is really good tasting. It's definitely one of my favorite hainan chicken places to go. I was debating on giving this place five stars but opted for four cents this time around the white meat was a little dry.
