I was headed north out of Baltimore, and as soon as I crossed the state line, I stopped into the Pennsylvania welcome center along the freeway , and asked the lady who worked there to recommend a good restaurant. She sent me here, and she did not do me wrong. It's a nice restaurant. It looked like an old-fashioned country Inn on the outside, and just a simple restaurant on the inside. I was served right away. I was in Pennsylvania, so I went for my old standby. Scrapple, two eggs, and toast. You can also get it with home fries if you want. Scrapple is an interesting dish. Created by the Pennsylvania Dutch to use as much of the pig as possible, it's basically "pig scraps" ground up and formed into a loaf. As Guy Fieri says, "from the heel, to the squeal." The meal was excellent. The eggs were perfectly over easy, so there was a good amount of yolk, and the scrapple was fantastic. It's definitely an acquired taste. I live in California, but the first time I tried it, I loved it! I acquired the taste right away. . It is very rich by itself so I always put on a little bit of ketchup, and it's perfect. They use a good quality bread for the toast, and the coffee was excellent I was talking with who I believe was the owner, and he was telling me that some people put either jelly or syrup on their scrapple. That's a little bit too "out there" for me. Food, coffee, tax and tip, and I was only out the door 10 bucks. What a fantastic deal for a very good breakfast. Came to The Coachlight on a recommendation from a Nextdoor post. My Fiancée and I pass here often and wondered if it was the perfect hole in the wall local restaurant for breakfast..... The remodel made the interior and exterior better than it's been, and the service was prompt and polite, but man, the food just missed the mark. I had eggs / sausage and toast, and kind of knew once the server said they only had sausage patties, my expectations were lowered, and I was right. Basically frozen sausage, dried out and flavorless. Eggs and toast were fine. Fiancée had chocolate chip pancakes and homefries, and the pancakes tasted, at best, like they came out of a premix with water. There wasn't enough butter and syrup to save them. Every staff has a rough day, and perhaps this was their bad day, but I'd skip The Coachlight, and opt for New Freedom Coffee House, or Mason Dixon Diner, both about 15 mins from the Coachlight. read more

The restaurant DOES NOT LOOK FANCY AT ALL - but food pretty good EXCEPT Chicken POT PIE -Looks like ole diner from the 70s. Food was good. Had vegetable beef soup, grilled cheese & Ham. Wife had crab soup and chicken pot pie. Everything was tasty and seemed homemade BUT the pot pie which had ZERO flavor crust was good but had no seasoning. The server gladly took off the check. But everything else was very tasty. And service was very good. They had a number of homemade desserts that looked awesome but we were eating late lunch and had dinner reservations at 5. We have been debating stopping here for awhile. I had haddock which came with Mac and cheese and stewed tomatoes. Haddock was fine, stewed tomatoes were cold and Mac and Cheese was not edible. Husband had chicken and crab cake with coleslaw and onion rings. The chicken and crabcake were fine. coleslaw was just shredded cabbage with no dressing. The service was fine. The whole place was clean but definitely in need of some updates. We probably won't return. read more

I put off trying this place because from the outside looks rundown and confusing. I thought it was a closed down restaurant that switched to renting trucks. But a friend and I decided to try some breakfast and once we walked in I was shocked to find an actual diner inside. The inside probably hasn't changed since the early 80's but it's clean. If you live in the area, you should check this place out. It's not something I'd travel far and wide for or anything, but it's a good down-home kind of place. You can't find friendlier service and the prices are really low. The food is better than average, plus it's in a location right off the highway with nothing but fast food and a couple of other chains around. On our road trip from NYC to Maryland, my brother and I were detoured through Pennsylvania due to insane traffic. We ended up driving by Coach Light Family Restaurant and were intrigued by the homey facade. The place is a bit dilapidated considering the menu prices are pretty standard, but this certainly qualifies as a local family-run establishment. The service was pretty slow considering we were the only people in the joint; however, the waitress was probably 75 or 80 years old and very friendly. The homemade Italian wedding soup was quite good: a bit salty, but there were ample meatballs, and they were tasty. We also had onion rings and chicken fingers; both were standard boardwalk/beach quality. CASH ONLY!!! read more

On our way to Lancaster PA, stopped by here to have breakfast. Walked in & seated ourselves, no problem there. The place is small, no frills, no thrills. Our waitress was friendly, not overly but ok. She did check on us frequently but did not disturb our breakfast. The food was served warm, simple plating just enough for breakfast. Ordered the veggie omelet and as someone said before, the mushrooms were can. This is a typical mom & pop establishment with mom & pop still working the register. The restaurant was clean, and the food was what was to be expected. They have a limited breakfast menu all day, so a couple of breakfast sandwiches on toast was what we had. For what it is, I actually really like it. I typically don't enjoy diner food or diners in general but this place has very reasonable prices and a homey feel. I usually go with my mom or dad because it is quiet and has a nice location. Last time I was there, I ordered the chicken parm sub but when it arrived I saw there was meat in the marinara (I don't eat red meat). The server was super nice and took it back and let me order something else instead, which was the tuna melt (and served on Texas toast & very tasty). The fried haddock sandwich is also very good. All in all, 2 meals + coffee between my dad and I came to around $16. Can't beat it. read more

I totally disagree with so many posts here. I would travel (and have) a lot of miles to get to this joint. Best of all is their broasted chicken. Who makes broasted chicken anymore?? It's great. Try their hot turkey sandwich. It's great! I drive 50 miles from west of Baltimore for the chicken. Quality and price can't be beat. Don't know how they do it, and stay open with so few customers. The location is dismal in the middle of multiple shopping centers/malls, and a host of runofthemill chain restaurants (you know, Red Robin, McDonalds, etc.), and sometimes I think it must be a front for something. But to the consumer who values broasted chicken, this place is an absolute gem! read more

Disgusting! We went in for lunch one Saturday afternoon. No one greeted us, took longer than it should to even have someone come to the table and ask us for our drink order. It took 40 mins after that to get sandwiches and there was only 1 other customer in the restaurant at the time! The food was gross, greasy, and gave you an immediate need to use the restroom. The tables, chairs, and even the floor were covered with a layer of grease. The owners seemed to be unaware of the situation or didn't seem to care, the staff were all young kids more focused on their phones than their jobs. Will not return, ever! read more

First, I can't fathom how this place stays open considering no one is ever there. For some reason, this seemly ghost restaurant intrigued my brother and I. One would think toast is impossible to screw up, but this restaurant managed to simultaneously burn the toast and serve it cold. In addition to this, the toast was also soggy. Decided to give the Coach Light a "second chance"...we ate here 14 years ago and have watched it deteriorate. So, we went today for Roast Turkey Dinner. The Roast Turkey was one slice of turkey lunch meat, potatoes were instant, gravy thick and tasteless, and the cranberry relish tasted/smelled like Pine-Sol ! Our waitress doubled as the toilet cleaner !!!! She served us and then put on her rubber gloves and cleaned the Ladies Room.t !!!!! I've been eating at Coach Light for more than 10 years. I am a huge fan of the homemade soups. Some of their soups include: chicken corn, chili, beef veggie, and ham and bean; all of which are delicious. Their subs are HUGE! I also love their broasted chicken. People come from miles around for their broasted chicken! You should also try their homemade crab cakes; they are all lump meat and have great flavor. The servers are friendly, especially the breakfast server during the week. There is a reason why they have been in buisness as long as they have...it's a place like no other! this little dinner has ben good both times we have been there. The first time we ate there it was closing time and they still willing to serve us and the food was excellent that was last year this year we went back along with a friend of ours and they were busy so the service was a little bit slower but not to slow the food was still very good the only problem was one person in our party ordered shrimp with fries and the fries were a little cold but they got her new fries right away. we will stop there again next year. read more
