Thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. We had reservations and were seated immediately with a beautiful view of the marina. We started with the sautéed blue crab claws and fried calamari. Both were tasty and the perfect appetizer. Dinner was Shrimp & Grits, and the grilled swordfish on risotto cakes. Beautifully presented dishes where the flavors lived up to the appearances. Came in for lunch after walking around St. Simons. No line and was able to get a corner table outside. I ordered the Blackened Mahi-mahi with a side of potato salad. The order took a long time to come out (35 mins or so). However the sandwich was very good. The fish tasted fresh and was cooked really well. Potato salad was fine. Great place to grab lunch. I do wish though that they had a bigger uncovered portion of the deck. I started with the Lobster Nachos and they were delicious! The cheese wasn't that fake runny Bach cheese but rather melted real cheese sauce that was so creamy. There was also a decent amount of lobster meat. For my entree, I had the fish and chips. The breading on the fish was a little heavy for my taste, but was enjoyable nonetheless. The handcut fries though were the star of the show -- they were so tasty. Food isn't that great but my parents like it so I find myself there a few times a year. Usually there's a big crowd so it gets pretty loud. The food is always just ok but never fantastic, except the gumbo which is great every time. Service is usually very friendly but on the slower side. PS - they charge a 4% non cash adjustment which is a practice that allows restaurants to charge a higher surcharge to its customers than a credit card fee. The broth was flavorful and had a nice amount of garlic and the clams were very succulent. Delicious ranch dressing (homemade) on the salad too. I ordered fried shrimp which was very good; nice plump shrimp and hubby had the grouper special with baby squash. Also really good! Ordered the French burgandy which we also enjoyed. The only thing I wasn't kern on and didn't drink was the old fashioned cocktail; it was cloyingly sweet and heavy caramel flavor too heavy for what is usually my favorite cocktail. Mine is a story of good fortune, and some would say luck. After a long treatment period for cancer (that thankfully seems to be gone), the wife says she needs to get out...out of the house, out of town, out near the water. And she wants oysters, one of her absolutely favorite things, but one of the foods that she was denied during treatment. So we make a short trek to Brunswick, more of an oyster town than our beloved St. Augustine, and close enough to be away. Thanks to Yelp, I had bookmarked Coastal Kitchen on the chance that they could combine the water view with the oyster experience that she was craving. And this is where the luck comes in...they nailed it. We had a dozen steamed and a dozen of their Dirty Oysters. The former were simply good. The latter were a gastronomic dream, an orgasm of flavors. Raw oysters, topped with scallion, caviar, sour cream and Texas Pete. Combined with one of their Georgia craft IPAs and it's heaven. We sat right by the window enjoying views of the marina and nature. We know we are fortunate for her latest victory and we hope for a continuation of the current positive course. We consider ourselves lucky that we can cruise up here to Coastal Kitchen again to celebrate each of her recovery milestones. read more

I came here for an early dinner, but they were already pretty crowded. I did not have to wait long for a table however. That's the best part of the whole experience. I waited, and waited and waited....finally the guy who was at the front seating people brought me some water....and I waited some more. Just before I started to leave, a young girl came over and took my order....quickly with almost no interaction. I ordered shrimp and grits...a favorite of mine that I have ordered many other places. It came out in a reasonable time and was hot....but what is this??? Some grits with a few shrimp and a tomato sauce covering everything...no drowning everything. WAY too much"sauce" and not like anything I have ever seen or tasted before. No bread, no salad, no veggie, nothing....just the one plate of shrimp with tomato sauce. I ate it because I was hungry and wanted to get out of there. I felt ok until early the next morning....when the upset stomach and bowel issues (trying to be kind here) started. Oh dear, I was so sick....but I had only a few more hours to spend in my beloved SSI, so I went out anyway. Several more times that day I had explosive "issues" and it was obviously from the red "sauce" over the meal. I can NOT recommend this place, first due to the food, second due to the substandard service I received. For a high priced place like this , I would expect at least some courtesy. You pay for the view.....if you are lucky enough to sit by a window or outside, which I was not. read more

If I weren't raised with better ethics and manners than I was, I would have walked out and refused to pay. The food was way over seasoned and the coupe we ate with took one bite of the ravioli and couldn't even stomach it. As we left still hungry, the door to the kitchen was open outside and it was an absolute pig sty. We made the comment as we walked by that this was why the food tasted like garbage and one of the cooks slammed the door shut to keep people from looking in (obviously hearing our comment). Save yourself the $150 and go get something in Brunswick that is more palatable and 10x less cheaper. I would rate 0 if I could but the waitress was pleasant and apologetic for the trash food.
