So amazing! All the food was unbelievably delicious. I was a little concerned because I don't really like Indian food but there were many different styles of food from that part of the world. Tbh, I am always hesitant to try a restaurant that specializes in multiple cuisines, I believe in the adage "jack of all trades, master of none". But in this case, I am glad to be wrong. I have been to this restaurant multiple times and have not been disappointed. The ambiance is romantic beach cottage core with flowers on the ceiling and a cute outdoor patio area. With LA's weather, you can't go wrong with either seating. The service is exceptional, they are good about asking for food restrictions and are attentive throughout the entirety of service. This is an excellent choice for an intimate celebration. This restaurant is ideal for family-style eating with some stand-outs. One word, amazing!!!! I wasn't expecting to come here, but my sister-in-law planned a birthday party for my brother while we were visiting. They had a set menu for $85 per person and it was worth every single penny, kids not included. Every single dish was so flavorful and just enough food that we could not eat everything. The papaya salad was one of the best I've ever had, and I have had a couple in my life. Can't speak highly enough for this place, the ambience is awesome. They have outdoor seating and indoor seating is very much family style and a loud place, but almost like a fancy grandmother's house vibe. The wallpaper, the dining plates give fancy grandma lol. This was a perfect place for our big party as we had two kids and seven adults. The server was very helpful with answering any questions about unfamiliar dishes and coming back and checking on us about how everything tasted. Despite the rainy weather, I drove from OC to finally try Cobi's. Unfortunately, the experience began poorly the moment I arrived. A worker--clearly not the host--was fumbling with a parasol that nearly hit my head, yet he still found the energy to shout at me, "Go queue up behind the line!" When I let him know we had a reservation, he didn't even acknowledge us--just repeated, louder, "Go there, queue behind that line." I asked why we should be queuing behind guests without reservations, but all he did was mechanically repeat the same line. The interaction felt careless, unprofessional, and surprisingly hostile. It's baffling to treat paying customers with the tone of a worn-out '90s takeout cashier rather than the basic hospitality expected at a sit-down restaurant. Meanwhile, the actual host stood there with no expression whatsoever, offering zero guidance as we waited in the cold drizzle. When another staff member finally checked our reservation, the two of them exchanged a quick, sneaky smile right in front of me. Maybe it wasn't about us, but doing that in a customer's face is just unprofessional. Inside, the ambience is cozy in a kitschy-grandma-dining-room way, but the noise level is overwhelming. Conversations are nearly impossible. Ironically, the same guy who yelled at us was later the one taking our order. Thankfully, one server who looked more like a chef, wore an apron, and kindly explained each dish as he served it. Actual hospitality, which made the contrast even sharper. Unfortunately, the food didn't redeem anything. The menu bounces between Thai, Chinese, Indonesian, Indian, and Malay, but the flavors don't blend--they clash. It's not fusion; it's confusion. Everything feels like a mix of everything and yet somehow nothing, much like Père David's deer: part donkey, part cow, part deer, part horse--but ultimately none of them. --+Curry Puffs looked like fried chicken when they arrived--burnt, lumpy, and unrecognizable. The filling tasted fine but was watery. ---Beef Rendang was a $28 disappointment. Instead of tender beef, it arrived as a pulled-pork-like mush smeared across a tiny 5' plate in a dull light-brown color. The coconut sauce and a completely flavorless sambal ijo were served separately, turning the dish into a dip-your-own science experiment. The effect is a DIY experiment rather than a cohesive dish -- like selling a luxury watch with all its components loose in the box. The promised crispy shallots and gulai were nowhere to be found. Even worse, the sambal had no heat, and the beef itself was lukewarm. ---Devil Chicken Curry was just heat with no flavor--$21 for a bland chicken leg and thigh soaking in pepper oil. No aromatics, no depth, just pain. ---Nasi Goreng promised sambal terasi and long beans, but neither showed up. Instead, it tasted like sweet rice lightly tossed with ABC sauce. The egg was over-fried, the dish had zero spice, and instead of long beans, I found a medium-length hair with the bulb still attached. Absolutely gross. My stomach turned for the rest of the night, and I couldn't bring myself to finish the meal. This place feels like a pure tourist attraction--style over substance, and none of the substance works. The Michelin Guide listing reads more like a Yellow Pages entry in this case. The service is terrible, the hygiene is questionable, and the food makes no culinary sense. Even a few bites left me chugging water all night. I drove over an hour in the rain just to be shouted at at the front door and to find a hair in my Nasi Goreng. A completely avoidable disappointment from start to finish. read more

My favorite was probably the Gai Yang chicken, a refreshing lemongrass flavor complemented with a coleslaw. Fun ambience as well, going with their theme of "joining us amongst the flowers." I have to preface this by saying it was incredibly busy and hectic as they were having a Resy event when we booked our reservation, but I was severely disappointed with the food. We started off pretty well with the curry puffs. They had a crispy, yet fluffy exterior and a nice soft filling reminiscent of a classic samosa. The tamarind ketchup was also a nice touch as well. The kanpachi was also alright despite the fish's slight chew. Unfortunately, the popular butter chicken was extremely flat - as if they forgot the masala entirely - and the nasi goreng required the sambal from our complimentary Resy 'snack' to exceed the standard of a typical takeout fried rice. I don't think this restaurant got it's excellent reputation from the food we tried today, so I'd love to try it again and get the experience I had hoped to get. The service was fine and they handled my allergy well so no complaints on that, but the food was definitely one of the biggest disappointments I've had eating in LA. read more

We ordered the recommended Nasi Goreng fried rice (with extra pork belly for $6 extra), Roti wraps, and friend chicken to share. Everything was great with great flavor and spice balance. The egg on top of rice has running yolk to provide a rich texture that covers the grain. Chicken is extra crispy outside but juicy inside. The wraps are flavorful and filling (with meat and beans) We also ordered a few drinks. I opted in for the (virgin) Lychee fizz and it was delicious and with very legit fruity taste. The only thing service could have been better is the French toast. Our friend had to wait a lot longer and watching us eat while she waited for her order. This spot has been mentioned to me many times from customers that come into my job and I finally got the chance to try it out this past weekend. My boyfriend and I came in for lunch and were quickly seated in the garden area. The outdoor garden seating is truly beautiful and relaxing! Being this was our first time we asked our waiter for some recommendations. We love food so we put in a pretty large order. For drinks I got the lychee blossom drink and my boyfriend got a peppercorn Pilsner. For food, we ordered the fried chicken, curry puffs, the crispy rice salad, the chili dip plate, the grilled prawns, and the roti wraps. I can confidently say each dish was a 10 out of 10 and completely enjoyable! Easily one of the best meals of the year for me. We were able to snag a last minute dinner reservation on a Wednesday and so glad we did. I was genuinely having a moment during every single first bite of each dish. I usually rate each individual item in my reviews but everything was a 10/10 in my book with no notes! Honorable mentions: Ora King Salmon - This was one of my favorites of the night. The salmon was so fresh and paired very well with the shrimp chips Grilled Prawns - This was so fun to eat straight from the skewer. Simple yet delicious and smoky Curry Puffs - So crispy, flaky and packed with flavor. These took me back to when I lived in Singapore. Absolutely killed it with this one Nasi Goreng - I love a good nasi goreng and this was a flavor bomb. Cobi's might be one of the prettiest restaurants in Los Angeles. It's feminine and lush and reminds me of my mom's home (which might mean one thing to you, but mine's an interior designer). Mismatched darling plates, gorgeous antique lamps. A little garden oasis. And the food's the best part. The dry-aged kanpachi is a revelation--silky, rich, almost buttery, but then cut with that lemongrass coconut and finger-lime brightness.. it dances on your palata. The salmon tartar is also buttery delicious, simple, and anyone who likes a lil spicy mayo would like this. The Branzino is crisp skinned and is perched atop the most fragrant pool of yellow curry that I just cannot get enough of. 4.5 stars - delicious food and lovely ambiance. Our group went with the tasting menu (hybrid of "chef's selections" and "classics") - this was a massive amount of food. They did a nice job packing up our leftovers for us, which I appreciated (the food also reheated well the next day). No liquor but decent beer and wine selection. Why the half star deduction? While service was good, I wish they would've swapped our plates more than once during the meal - especially with so many courses in the tasting menu. They also didn't provide knives or serving utensils, which made the family style sharing a bit awkward. While the food was excellent, a few of the dishes lacked the expected heat (if the concern is being too spicy for some, they should offer mild to hot options - I need my curry with a kick!). Finally, allowing non-service dogs inside a cramped restaurant is unsanitary and the constant barking is annoying. We wanted to sit close to each other and the teenagers that were seated next to us didn't seem to mind, though Michaud did. Maybe he liked the girl. I don't know. It was very confusing what went wrong. Alberto is the best server of all time and one of the many reasons we repeatedly revisited this poetic place. Poetry here is sadly, and apparently long gone ... The "manager" Aaron was entirely inappropriate and Michaud should work somewhere whereby it's acceptable to tell guests to go fuck themselves. Which he did. To us. The security guard was absolutely lovely and in control and should he be the one managing this restaurant we would have had the lovely evening we were looking for. We had a really nice time at Cobis for our anniversary dinner! I had the sour cherry fizz and it was delicious. My perfect drink- refreshing, fruity and a little tart. For a starter we had the dry aged kingfish and I loved the flavors- coconut and acid. It was great and the fish was buttery and perfect. For mains we did the butter chicken with white rice and roti- this was the star for us. It was flavorful and delicious. The roti was my favorite and I would highly recommend getting a few. i was taking a long walk during the day and passed by this cute restaurant - came back around the same day to try without a reservation.. didn't get to sit inside which looked awfully cute but they had some seats outside that was still cute i love that they have some vintage victorian plates - their menu is also really cute with hand drawn designs! we had grilled prawns and curry puffs to start. the prawns were great but i wish it was a bit charred more. i'm not sure that i would order this one again curry puffs were phenomenal - piping hot and both the filling and pastry was very yummy. does not need the sauce that comes on the side beef rendang was the star of the show. don't forget to get some roti with it. roti was hot and fresh as well. nasi goreng was also super flavorful and would order that again. papaya salad was a bit fusion-y and didn't prove to be spicy despite the two chili pepper signs on the menu.. maybe a bit watered down for the usual sm crowd... it should be a bit spicier! service was attentive and friendly! would love to go back again and might try the prix fixe menu one feedback though, the serving plates should be switched out more frequently read more

Food - We went with the all classics and chefs selection, added some scallops as an al la Carte appetizer... There's something about ordering one set and eating a surprise full of beautiful dishes. Scallops and papaya salad cleaned our palets, the ceviche wasnt my favorite but the other girls enjoyed it, loved the short rib. The curry was pretty spicy but still loved the flavors, True and authentic. Parking - street parking, plenty Service - the best. Our server continued to change our plates throughout the courses, customized our meals to accommodate our pescaterian sister and most importantly with any Indian restaurant, made sure our waters were refilled so I don't tell spicy spiccaaayyy. My tastebuds were blessed with all the incredible food we had a Cobi's. Wow. Every single dish we had me drooling. Started off with papaya salad, curry puffs, and the dumplings. My favorite from the starters was the salad. My husband's was the curry puffs. For our entrees, we got the branzino (a must) and butter chicken. We got a side of jasmine rice and roti. Absolutely delicious! For dessert we got the Thai tea pudding. It was the perfect way to end the meal. Not too sweet and the texture is was perfect. Super cute restaurant. The decoration reminds me of a tea house but they had great curries! The butter chicken was good but my favorite dish was the nasi goreng, the rice was cooked so well. Tamarind ketchup was solid and the pickled onions were perfect. 4.7/5 Butter Chicken - The best Indian dish I've had in America. Second only to a $1.50 masala dosa I had in Singapore in 2019 from a stand in Tekka Centre that eventually got shut down for health code violations (lol). Incredible depth of flavor from the tomato-forward base. Tender chicken. 4.9/5 Roti - Delicious, not much to say. It's essential for the butter chicken. 4.6/5 Short ribs - They were recommended from Yelp and our waiter. While they were incredibly tender and seasoned decently, on their own they were a little flat acid-wise and needed to be eaten with the herb salad to balance them out. Perhaps a light tamarind or papaya glaze would improve the ribs. 4.4/5 Sundae - Honestly, this was essentially a high-quality snickers ice cream sundae. If you like that flavor profile, go to town. For me, I would have loved this back in college but now I think it needs something to make it less mundane. Perhaps a chai ice cream instead of vanilla. Or if that's too much of a switch, a tamarind glaze would make this taste less American-y. 4.2/5 Strawberry Shaved Ice - After reading mixed reviews, I have to say this is what a Michelin restaurant dessert should be. A unique dish with balanced and fresh strawberry flavor with a basil background that is just enough. The base of sweet tofu cream and strawberry popping boba was simply great. I think the square fruit was passionfruit? A little hard to eat as you really have to dig to get all the flavor in one bite. 4.7/5 Service Our waiter was very pleasant, as was the staff. I do wish they would have provided a complimentary dessert for my anniversary. 4.8/5 Ambiance The restaurant is very impressive, although my seat didn't have enough lighting and made it pretty hard to see what I was putting in my mouth. Cobi's is one of the most authentic Asian restaurants I've found in Santa Monica. Specifically, my partner, who is born & raised in Malaysia said the Malaysian dishes tasted "just like home." The dishes were filling & very reasonably priced. The ambiance was whimsically welcoming. They even gave us a handwritten note and small flower recognizing that we were celebrating our anniversary. Cobi's is truly a special place--from the charming dining spaces and thoughtful aesthetics to the incredible hospitality and excellent service from all who work there. What a yummy meal. Lychee redbull cocktail? What a sign from god. And the salmon, pork belly salad, and butter chicken were all very delicious as well. The little back patio outdoor was a lovely vibe, quick and friendly service. I think I would prefer sitting outdoors to indoors. read more
