Easily one of the best meals of the year for me. We were able to snag a last minute dinner reservation on a Wednesday and so glad we did. I was genuinely having a moment during every single first bite of each dish. I usually rate each individual item in my reviews but everything was a 10/10 in my book with no notes! Honorable mentions: Ora King Salmon - This was one of my favorites of the night. The salmon was so fresh and paired very well with the shrimp chips Grilled Prawns - This was so fun to eat straight from the skewer. Simple yet delicious and smoky Curry Puffs - So crispy, flaky and packed with flavor. These took me back to when I lived in Singapore. Absolutely killed it with this one Nasi Goreng - I love a good nasi goreng and this was a flavor bomb. The runny fried egg on top was an important detail Butter Chicken - This actually surprised me with how good it was and ended up being my favorite dish of the night. Highly recommend ordering with the roti Dry Aged Branzino - The presentation and preparation of this branzino was stunning. The curry sauce was a creative addition Thai Tea Pudding - The pudding had a deeply rich caramel flavor and was topped with plenty of perfectly-cooked boba pearls Our food came out within minutes of ordering and we were in awe given how packed the restaurant was. Cobi's might be one of the prettiest restaurants in Los Angeles. It's feminine and lush and reminds me of my mom's home (which might mean one thing to you, but mine's an interior designer). Mismatched darling plates, gorgeous antique lamps. A little garden oasis. And the food's the best part. The dry-aged kanpachi is a revelation--silky, rich, almost buttery, but then cut with that lemongrass coconut and finger-lime brightness.. it dances on your palata. The salmon tartar is also buttery delicious, simple, and anyone who likes a lil spicy mayo would like this. The Branzino is crisp skinned and is perched atop the most fragrant pool of yellow curry that I just cannot get enough of. 4.5 stars - delicious food and lovely ambiance. Our group went with the tasting menu (hybrid of "chef's selections" and "classics") - this was a massive amount of food. They did a nice job packing up our leftovers for us, which I appreciated (the food also reheated well the next day). No liquor but decent beer and wine selection. Why the half star deduction? While service was good, I wish they would've swapped our plates more than once during the meal - especially with so many courses in the tasting menu. They also didn't provide knives or serving utensils, which made the family style sharing a bit awkward. While the food was excellent, a few of the dishes lacked the expected heat (if the concern is being too spicy for some, they should offer mild to hot options - I need my curry with a kick!). Finally, allowing non-service dogs inside a cramped restaurant is unsanitary and the constant barking is annoying. Ending on a high note - the prices are very reasonable for the quality of food and the location. We'll be back! read more

We had a really nice time at Cobis for our anniversary dinner! I had the sour cherry fizz and it was delicious. My perfect drink- refreshing, fruity and a little tart. For a starter we had the dry aged kingfish and I loved the flavors- coconut and acid. It was great and the fish was buttery and perfect. For mains we did the butter chicken with white rice and roti- this was the star for us. It was flavorful and delicious. The roti was my favorite and I would highly recommend getting a few. We also ordered the beef short rib and the nasi goreng. I thought the nasi goreng was a little too rich tasting with the beef short rib that was also pretty rich. i was taking a long walk during the day and passed by this cute restaurant - came back around the same day to try without a reservation.. didn't get to sit inside which looked awfully cute but they had some seats outside that was still cute i love that they have some vintage victorian plates - their menu is also really cute with hand drawn designs! we had grilled prawns and curry puffs to start. the prawns were great but i wish it was a bit charred more. i'm not sure that i would order this one again curry puffs were phenomenal - piping hot and both the filling and pastry was very yummy. does not need the sauce that comes on the side beef rendang was the star of the show. don't forget to get some roti with it. roti was hot and fresh as well. nasi goreng was also super flavorful and would order that again. papaya salad was a bit fusion-y and didn't prove to be spicy despite the two chili pepper signs on the menu.. maybe a bit watered down for the usual sm crowd... it should be a bit spicier! service was attentive and friendly! would love to go back again and might try the prix fixe menu one feedback though, the serving plates should be switched out more frequently read more

Food - We went with the all classics and chefs selection, added some scallops as an al la Carte appetizer... There's something about ordering one set and eating a surprise full of beautiful dishes. Scallops and papaya salad cleaned our palets, the ceviche wasnt my favorite but the other girls enjoyed it, loved the short rib. The curry was pretty spicy but still loved the flavors, True and authentic. Parking - street parking, plenty Service - the best. Our server continued to change our plates throughout the courses, customized our meals to accommodate our pescaterian sister and most importantly with any Indian restaurant, made sure our waters were refilled so I don't tell spicy spiccaaayyy. My tastebuds were blessed with all the incredible food we had a Cobi's. Wow. Every single dish we had me drooling. Started off with papaya salad, curry puffs, and the dumplings. My favorite from the starters was the salad. My husband's was the curry puffs. For our entrees, we got the branzino (a must) and butter chicken. We got a side of jasmine rice and roti. Absolutely delicious! For dessert we got the Thai tea pudding. It was the perfect way to end the meal. Not too sweet and the texture is was perfect. They don't have a liquor license so drinks are only beer and wine. Their cocktails are made with rice wine (sake). 10/10 experience. Service was excellent. Our waitress was so bubbly and welcoming. Food Curry Puffs - These were spectacular, with my only gripe being the pastry being a bit heavy. I do understand they probably are that way to keep the outstanding filling secured. Speaking of, the seasoning of the filling was literally elevated. The flavors blossomed immediately as I consumed them and the aromatic spices lingered gently in my mouth before my mains arrived. Tamarind ketchup was solid and the pickled onions were perfect. 4.7/5 Butter Chicken - The best Indian dish I've had in America. Second only to a $1.50 masala dosa I had in Singapore in 2019 from a stand in Tekka Centre that eventually got shut down for health code violations (lol). Incredible depth of flavor from the tomato-forward base. Tender chicken. 4.9/5 Roti - Delicious, not much to say. It's essential for the butter chicken. 4.6/5 Short ribs - They were recommended from Yelp and our waiter. While they were incredibly tender and seasoned decently, on their own they were a little flat acid-wise and needed to be eaten with the herb salad to balance them out. Perhaps a light tamarind or papaya glaze would improve the ribs. 4.4/5 Sundae - Honestly, this was essentially a high-quality snickers ice cream sundae. If you like that flavor profile, go to town. For me, I would have loved this back in college but now I think it needs something to make it less mundane. Perhaps a chai ice cream instead of vanilla. Or if that's too much of a switch, a tamarind glaze would make this taste less American-y. 4.2/5 Strawberry Shaved Ice - After reading mixed reviews, I have to say this is what a Michelin restaurant dessert should be. A unique dish with balanced and fresh strawberry flavor with a basil background that is just enough. The base of sweet tofu cream and strawberry popping boba was simply great. I think the square fruit was passionfruit? A little hard to eat as you really have to dig to get all the flavor in one bite. 4.7/5 Service Our waiter was very pleasant, as was the staff. I do wish they would have provided a complimentary dessert for my anniversary. 4.8/5 Ambiance The restaurant is very impressive, although my seat didn't have enough lighting and made it pretty hard to see what I was putting in my mouth. Cobi's is one of the most authentic Asian restaurants I've found in Santa Monica. Specifically, my partner, who is born & raised in Malaysia said the Malaysian dishes tasted "just like home." The dishes were filling & very reasonably priced. The ambiance was whimsically welcoming. They even gave us a handwritten note and small flower recognizing that we were celebrating our anniversary. I love the aesthetic of this restaurant. I recommend getting a reservation like we did. It gets really busy at dinner time. Both times for dinner that I've been, it's packed. Food Tried nasigoreng, gai yang wings, butter chicken, roti, short ribs, thai milk tea pudding with boba, and the grilled shrimp. Recommend the short ribs and grilled shrimp! The shrimp comes with three skewers. The roti is also delicious as the texture is really good. The short ribs just falls off the bone and is so divinely tender. It comes with a delicious red sauce. They also have some delicious cocktails to try as well. Service is attentive as he checked in with us. The seating or hosting direction is a bit odd though. We wanted to sit outside which we indicated in our reservation and they said they don't guarantee seating preferences but they had open outdoor seats and didn't offer those to us. The interior is so pretty, and the service was very friendly and attentive and personable from start to finish. Alberto was our server and he had great recommendations and a sense of humor! My friend and I had the pork dumplings, African curry with chicken, roti, beef rendang, and the fried rice special with squid. Each plate was packed with flavor and absolutely delicious! The fried rice was probably my favorite and I don't even like rice! For dessert. We had the shave ice which was also really good! We finished it and I really liked it because it wasn't very sweet. I initially planned on bringing my dog and requested a table in the garden patio. The hosts and our server were all asking where he was and wished he came. We didn't expect to dine here so we didn't make reservations. But it was one of the few places that was open late. So we arrived at about 830 on a Saturday evening and they told us our wait would be about an hour. We left a name and number and they told us they would text us. We spent the hour walking to third street promenade and back. By the time we got back (an hour later), we had not received a text. But we checked in and they said our table would be ready shortly. They managed to get us a seat inside but with the plants and lighting, it felt like you were sitting in someone's backyard/greenhouse/conservatory. There was a lively atmosphere. Tables were placed quite close together so getting in and out to use the restroom was a little squeeze. Service was really excellent and the wait staff were able to explain the menu to us. The menu is a mixture of Southeast Asian and South Asian cuisines. Coming from Southeast Asia, I thought the flavors were excellent. The beef ribs and beef rendang were standouts. So tender, so flavorful. We were very pleased with our experience. It's so hard to do so many different cuisines well but Cobi has done it. If you are from Singapore, please know that chef has worked in Singapore and occasionally has chili crab on the menu. Made with Alaskan crabs. I stopped doing reviews, but I want to do this one because we had a great experience. Food undoubtedly is good, but our server was wonderful and I wanted to thank him. We were sat outside last night because the place is very busy and we showed up after 6pm. It was chilly so they offered blankets and turned on the heater. Soon, the outside tables were filled up, btw. We tried the curry puffs, butter chicken, roti, and nasi goreng. All were yummy. I just got back from Sri Lanka, so I was craving those flavors. Our waiter outside was welcoming, gave great suggestions and amazing service. There's a very cute vibe inside, but we were more than happy sitting outside in the fresh air. Total was Pennie's under $75 with tip etc. Tea: I liked that they added lime. A nice twist. Striped sea bass: SO good. Reminded me of Tom Kha soup. Strong lime and coconut notes. A complex sauce. Sweet, tangy, sour, herbal. Branzino: cooked perfectly. I didn't have any bones, though I was warned *twice* that the collar area may have small bones. I didn't have any at all. The curry sauce was divine- concentrated flavours. So tasty I didnt want dessert- so I could let the curry sauce linger on my tongue. I paired it with a roti- recommended to sop up the sauce. In all ive never come so close to licking my plate. Service was 10/10. Greeted at the host, and they even asked me a question alluding to my Resy profile. Host and the waitress confirmed dietary restrictions, which was greatly appreciated. Staff were always filling my water, and it never got below half full. My waitress recommended the striped bass and I was very happy she did. The ambiance is like a house feel, and it's absolutely aesthetic, and would make very cute instagram posts. i was very surprised by Cobi's food. Super unexpected but great food. My husband took me here for my birthday and it was amazing. The butter chicken took me by surprised and the roti is soooooo soft. I really enjoyed their Calamnsi drink (non alcoholic) we also got the prawns and the sauce really complemented the dish. Pork belly salad was a bit confusing i thought it would be a salad, however it was not. It was a bunch of pork belly with basil and onion. Either way, it was good just prepare for it not to be a like a salad entree. I highly recommend this place!!! I gave the restaurant a 4 stars because of the placement of our table. we were sat in the corner literal half a step away from the restroom. Definitely a must-try in Santa Monica! Cobi's is a beautifully designed restaurant located just a block away from the ocean. The menu is Indonesian inspired with signature dishes like Nasi Goreng and Roti Wraps. Since it was our first time, our waitress explained the menu thoroughly and suggested ordering family style, so we could all try multiple dishes. She also let us know the dishes come as prepared, rather than holding everything to deliver at once. We started with the Vietnamese Cabbage Salad which was fresh and tangy. It was large enough for all 6 of us to get a small serving. Next we tried the Nasi Goreng - a fried rice dish with egg and long beans. Hands down the best fried rice I have had in a long time! I kept finding myself wanting more and more of it, even though their were other dishes to try. Both Roti Wraps were incredibly flavorful. I preferred the vegetarian Mister Dal to the Beef Rendang wrap, but would recommend both to try! The wrap on the beef was pretty charred, and I found myself tearing it off so I could enjoy all the flavors inside. Our table also enjoyed the Kaya French Toast. It was crispy on the outside, while still being soft on the inside. Overall, not too sweet! The Scotch Egg was the biggest disappointment of the meal; we ordered 2 for the table and finished neither. At $16 I had expected more, especially since the menu listed it with an "herb salad" and "yellow curry". If you look at the photo, I think considering a sprig of cilantro as a salad is a stretch. Also the sausage was extremely dry. Overall a great meal, and want to return to try their dinner menu! Since they serve brunch, it would be nice if they had the capability to make lattes (espresso, chai, and/or matcha). The only coffee options were regular or cold brew. read more

This restaurant is quaint but mighty. Came here for a birthday dinner for two and the flavors from this restaurant were out of this world. The portions although a little small were great for the two of us and our upcoming plans. Our waitress was very attentive to our experience and allergies which I always appreciate. The ambiance of the restaurant was very 'elevated' homey. We went at the beginning of dinner service so the place wasn't super loud but filled quickly. Bathroom is a bit tight as there are two, one outside and one inside towards the kitchen. For dinner we did the grilled prawns, curry puffs, Nasi goreng, butter chicken, a side of jasmine rice and roti, to share, and the raw salmon (6/10). Everything was delicious, Indian cuisine is among my favorites but I do think this fusion was a nice take. The butter chicken was to die for but I do think we had a bit more sauce than chicken which typically happens, I'd probably order double the roti (delicious) and more of the jasmine rice but overall we truly enjoyed our dinner. For dessert we got the shaved strawberry basil ice and I would 100% pass on that (not my best call) Would recommend this Michelin star restaurant as it's great food and great service, without the stushy attitude! Food: Grilled prawns [5/5]: these were to die for -- a little spicy, super fresh prawns especially if you like eating the head :) Scallops [4.5/5]: loved these -- super fresh and the tanginess. Maybe a little too much fish sauce (bf said it smelled fishy but tasted 10000% fantastic) haha Fried rice [5/5]: this smelled so good and tasted amazing -- i think a little on the salty side but pretty classic fried rice Devil Chicken curry [5/5]: definitely pretty spicy but tasty. Chicken was moist and juicy although i wish the thigh was deboned lol. Thai tea pudding [3/5]: ok soooo this is basically just solidified boba lol. Delicious fusion restaurant and bold flavors. Would recommend trying but it is pricey and maybe a little overhyped since it's in the Michelin guide. Expect $60 per person to be mildly full. It's tapas style and the servings aren't that big but our server gave use helpful portion guides so that we ordered enough food. My favorite dish was the Cobia Gaeng Kiew Wan Plā. It was a delicious blend of spices. The African Curry was also tasty. Nutty and on the sweeter side. The Nasi Goreng was a little overhyped hyped and too sweet for me, like fancy fried rice with ketchup. Green papaya salad was fresh. The toasted Maitaike Mushroom was tasty but I wish the serving size was bigger. The kingfish was fine but I preferred the curries. I saw the Michelin designation in the window and figured it must be good. I finally got around to making a reservation this past weekend. It was relatively easy to get one. The host seated us almost immediately. We sat on the patio in a cozy corner. The atmosphere of the restaurant was great. It felt like we were dining in a friend's yard more than a restaurant. The service was top notch. The waiter was attentive and friendly. He made sure to check on food allergies and offered recommendations. The wait time for the food was also great. Probably 10 minutes to receive the entrees after placing the order The only downside, surprisingly, was the food. It just didn't seem to have the right mix of flavor profiles. We tried the pork dumplings, the gal yang chicken, and the butter chicken with a side of jasmine rice and roti. The dumplings were ok. It came with a lemongrass dipping sauce and was topped with fried onions. I'm not sure why I was expecting a slightly different flavor from the sauce, but it was pretty decent. The gal yang chicken was pretty good. It was a good portion and there was a lot of meat. The dipping sauce was great, but the side salad that it came with could have been chopped a bit more finely - I felt like I was getting mouthfuls of either mint or Thai basil, which over powered the rest of the flavor. The butter chicken, what I thought would be the safe option, was a bit disappointing. Though it was a good sized portion, the sauce was just far too sweet than I like. The mix of all of these flavors kind of made my stomach a little unsettled after, which is unusual because I've had all of these dishes from different restaurants, though never in the same meal. The jasmine rice and roti were both fine. While waiting for the food I googled whether this restaurant had a Michelin Star. It does not. Rather it had the Bib Gourmand designation - which means it's recognized for good quality food and good prices. Basically what we got from the experience Overall I probably wouldn't go back here. Very cute place! Quite the surprise. Has almost a speakeasy vibe.Was wondering what his pink little building was, I pass by it several times a month in the last year and finally had a reason to go in. Liked the interior decor with plants/ flowers hanging from the ceiling. My drink was amazing. I had the gimlet with Calamansi very fresh great flavors. Wait staff, super friendly and accommodating. They seated us early earlier than our reservation time slot. I love the food flavors with the fusion mix very high-quality would definitely love to come back.
