If you don't feel like walking 4 or 5 blocks down the street to Blue Star Donuts but you have a sweet tooth, I would advise you to go to Rite Aid to get a Little Debbie's product instead of Coco Donuts. You may as well. And you don't have to leave a tip for them to do what they get paid to do. At Rite Aid, the cashier will say hi back when you say hi. At Coco Donuts, they will just stand at the counter, like the curly brunette woman did when i stopped by during lunch. I said hi. She looked at me and said nothing. She just looked like she'd rather be dead. I told her what I wanted and she put it in a bag and put it on the counter. Then she turned the card scanner in my direction and as she walked away I realized she wasn't mute when she said "this requires a confirmation and you're good to go." No thank you. No have a nice day. No pleasantry typical when a customer enters a tiny establishment. When an establishment is tiny it's even more important to be pleasant to the customers. I was completely turned off, then when I took a few bites of the donut, I deeply regretted not walking up to Blue Star Donuts. Coco Donuts aren't flavored with whatever the flavor of the donuts are supposed to be. The donuts taste like sugar. I had brought two donuts. After taking 2 bites of one, I bit into the other ( a buttermilk donut) and was equally disappointed. I threw them both away. Chocolate donuts are supposed to taste like Chocolate, not sugar. So, after work, I went to Blue Star. It was crowded like always, as the quality of the donuts are superb. I got a passion fruit and vanilla cake donut. Do you know what it tasted like? Passion fruit and vanilla. It didn't taste like sugar. I also got a Raspberry Rosemary buttermilk. It tasted like Raspberry and rosemary. It didn't taste like sugar. I *suspect* I'd hate the gimmicky donuts at Voodoo (not willing to stand in line to find out) and Blue Star donuts are too rich and too expensive. Coco Donuts is not a donut shop ran by Pablo Escobar... This lil shop I found off of yamhill and 6th is a great way to start the day. Since my car issues last week, i've been having to Max/Bus to work. While waiting for the bus the other day, the smell of coffee cought my nose. Coco Donuts is where the smell came from, and considering I had a 15 minutes wait, I checked it out. This shop is small and cozy, sweets and espresso fill the air. The selection of donuts is not amazingly huge, BUT....from what I have tried they all taste great. My favorite is the Apple Fritter. A long time favorite of mine. What I like about these more so than others, is the texture. The outside isn't as hard as a bomb shelter as most are, it's firm. The inside has a soft texture with great flavor. I can actually taste small chunks of apple. The service is friendly, the wait is very minimal, and those perks right there make things move that much smoother. I feel the price of the donuts is a lil' high, 1.25 for a fritter, .90 for a raised, 2.00 for a cinnamon crossaint...but nothing that's too crazy expensive. They do accept Debit/Credit, but require a $3.00 minimum purchase... Overall, this is a great spot to grab a cup of joe and a quick bite in the morning. read more

I came here for the lavender donut. I thought it was going to be a hole in the wall, but it was a really cute modern and clean shop. It's located in the middle of downtown, close to Nordstrom and all the shops on Morrison. The donut was fluffy and good, but I didn't really taste the lavender. Love these guys! After one too many disappointing and time wasting trips to Delicious Donuts, I decided to keep to coco. Came here on vet Day at 9am and everything was sold out, but within seconds a young man wheeled in a giant cart of fresh donuts!!! One thing delicious donuts has a real problem doing. I got my usual cinnamon roll, tried a maple bar, chocolate ring and Lavender Ring. All were as delightful as could be! They last forever too!!!! Good quality donuts that don't miss on the sweetness or indulgence. Ingredients are wonderful and nothing's more Portland than a cup of coffee and a donut in hand! Apparently Coco also roasts their own beans! I got the espresso glazed donut (chocolate glazed with smatterings of espresso beans on top) and it was gobbled down wayy to quickly. The place itself is pretty small with counters only for standing room, so it's generally a to-go shindig but Pioneer Square is nearby if you need somewhere to chill. I wanted to celebrate my successful exam at the dentist with a little sugar, and I had been meaning to try out Coco Donuts since I noticed it, so I ditched my stuff at the office and went to inspect it. The space is small, but clean, and uncluttered inside. There's a counter with a lovely case containing the stars (the donuts, of course), a sweet smell in the air, and a small condiment bar in the window. I'm not a fan of donuts on a regular basis, but I am a sucker for an apple fritter. Coco's is moderately sized (not a monster like Voodoo's), crispy on the edges, and not overly sweet. I have to say that the plainer the product, the harder it is to get perfectly right, and this fritter was just about perfect without weighing you down like a brick. The coffee was well above average in quality. Friendly service, reasonably priced, good stuff. I know where to go the next time a craving hits, and it's not to stand in line at the OldTown Voodoo. read more

Okay donuts. Not amazing, but I've never had a bad donut. The thing that go me was they wanted to charge a $0.40 fee to use a credit card because my purchase was under $3. Normally I don't know what fees a merchant uses for processing credit cards, but Coco was using Square, which charges a flat 2.75% fee for any amount (https://squareup.com/pricing). So, my $1.80 purchase would cost Coco less than $0.06 from Square, but they were going to charge me $0.40. Coco, I plan to go back to Safeway from now on for my donuts. Two donuts there cost $1.00, and I don't have to pay a fee to use my credit card. You were going to charge me $2.20. I like to support the small shops, but I can't do it for you. read more

I always miss the lavender donut, but this time I got the lavender latte. Not sure if it tasted how it's supposed to, but there was not a hint of lavender there. It tasted like Russian black bread, which I grew up eating. So this drink was a throwback! I would like to try it again, and hopefully get some lavender flavor next time. The most excellent donuts in Portland. The glazed donuts are the most deliciously airy treats I've ever had. Not greasy at all, and don't leave you with that icky sugar overload feeling. Coco also has amazing drinks like chai lattes, cafe lattes, americanos, Etc. the best part... If your looking for some well made slightly over-priced basic donuts (that is NOT Voodoo) you've found your place. I went in with a mean maple bar craving and was given an anorexic looking bar for 95 cents. Its not totally unreasonable but, it IS just a run of the mill maple bar, smaller than the traditional size. The interior decor looks like someone took the candy store from the original willy wonka and the chocolate factory was made over by the set designers for Ugly Betty's fashion magazine. I think its supposed to look clean and modern but Im not really getting that message. Each day, from shortly before sunrise until well after sunset, I crave sweets. My craving reaches its peak in the mid-afternoon as I'm staring at a computer screen. My frequent afternoon jaunts for old fashioned, chocolate covered, coconut, or lavender (to name a few) donuts never fail to satisfy and I often get more delectable nibbles than I had expected. On a particularly notable recent visit, I was enjoying a donut and an espresso by the window when I saw a man outside in the cold with a sign asking for help with bus fare and for a hot coffee. I decided to order a coffee for him on my way out. As I pulled out cash, the kind person behind the counter stopped me and said that the coffee was on the house. Great little donut shop that's close to all the shopping downtown. Raised donuts are usually my favorite since I prefer the soft fluffy taste over the more dense cake donuts. Coco's are great because they are fluffy without any doughy taste, and not too sweet. I came later in the day and was excited to see one last buttermilk donut waiting for me in the display. I don't much care for donuts, but I made an exception for this place. My husband loves maple bars so we stopped in here while on our way back to our car. I just had a plain glazed donut. The first thing I noticed was that the actual donut was very soft and light. I then took a bite of the maple bar which was also soft, light, creamy and heavenly. The maple icing was very natural tasting and not like the color sugar coating you get at the super market or Krispy Kreme. I was also surprised to find that their prices are pretty low. No, at least for coffee. No. The cold brew looked like tea. It was orangey in hue, not black or even brown. That says to me it's too watery. Then there were two giant ice blocks in it. Courier does ice blocks. I don't have a problem with that. But two in one 16 oz cup is silly (leaving about 4 oz of beverage in the cup). And adding more water to an already over-watered drink is a mistake. My donut was fine. No complaints there. Maybe they should just stick to drip coffee. $3.50 for coffee that I didn't even finish. Gross. And wasteful. I won't go back. Too many other good options around (Public Domain, Case Study and even Starbucks are three better within 2-5 blocks). read more

Friends have told me these are the tastiest donuts in town, so I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, the first two times I tried, they were out of donuts. How a donut shop doesn't have donuts in stock is beyond baffling to me. Later, I found a day when they actually had donuts in stock and gave it a try. On a warm, summer day in which I was really craving for a lil' cakey sweet treat, I stopped by this small place on my way back home. I've always passed by on multiple occasions, as it's pink and simple decors caught my eye but never had the chance to stop and try it. Well, couple days ago I did, and it sure did satisfy my donut craving. It was just the right sweetness for a donut craving (in my standards) and dense as well (for the old-fashion kind). What a gem in Portland. While the store front is totally unassuming (dare I say, plain?), the treats inside are totally worth a stop. Their donuts are always light and delicious. The coffee - Water Avenue - is one of the best you can find downtown. THIS place should have the line, not that pink box place. I am a complete donut freak and attribute the last 15 pounds I've gained to the donut place by my old office. That being said, I've visited Coco Donuts three times in the past year, and every time I've left empty-handed. Unless you show up first thing in the morning, you apparently have the choice of unappealing donuts or no donuts. Twice I've been in and was confronted by about 6-12 donuts total in the display case, which were (of course) the rejects that no one wanted anyway. The third time, the case was completely empty and I was told that they weren't making any more donuts for the day. To be clear, there were at least 4 employees in the store and it was 5 hours before their posted closing time. I've heard they have some good donuts, but they don't seem to know how to make enough. If you don't want new customers or to make sales on a regular basis, Coco, keep it up. I've given you three chances and you've failed miserably every time. read more
