One of the many bubble tea shops in the area. Kind of crazy how many there are within one block, but I guess that's what happens when a college is right around the corner. This particular location is tiny, but I guess it gets the job done. I recently tried the Grapefruit Yakult drink, which was interesting to say the least. Has that Yakult milk you can taste while also tasting the bitterness of the grapefruit. I also got it with the boba so add that taste into the already interesting flavors. Stopped by Coco to try some bubble tea without the boba. Ended up ordering their featured Pomegranate Cloud Black Tea (50% Sugar) 4 STARS. The cloud at the top is supposed to be pomegranate flavored on top of black tea. Didn't taste much like pomegranate to me although it did have a very light hint of fruitiness to it. I've never actually frequented CoCo Fresh Tea shops much when I've seen them in various cities including Asia, but this place is close to me. Unfortunately this place doesn't have several items that are listed on their online menu (like Hojicha), but I'm just going to assume that is in the context of the pandemic. Coco is cheaper than Kung Fu Tea and Gong Cha. The quality of the tea is not as great though. However, you can adjust the sugar level and ice level. I usually get 30% sugar and less ice. I also request less tapioca as well. My usual orders are matcha, taro, or passion fruit green tea. I sometimes get nata jelly or herbal jelly to change it up. I used to go to Coco a lot since it was right across from my school and I thoroughly enjoyed their drinks. However, I started going less just to cut down on my boba intake. I came back today to try it out again. I got a large passion fruit green tea with bubbles. The cashier said that the bubbles are still being made and it would take another 5 minutes, which is fine to me. I thought that since it is being made fresh, the bubbles should be fresh and flavorful right? I was so wrong. Once I got my drink, I tried a sip of it and was immediately disappointed. This is the worst experience ever! This Sunday,December 1st, I went to COCO and wanted to order a drink as usual. However, the girl's attitude 'amazed' me , she stops me from coming back to coco. They don't skimp out on the Boba balls inside the drink. There was a good amount of Boba in my drink. Other retailers give three sips and the balls are gone. My drink at this location had more sips per serving. And all the Boba quality was solid, nothing too soft, not too firm and no raw pieces, perfect. Maybe it was a one time thing or CoCo doing this on every drink just earned them a fan. I will surely try again at another CoCo or come back to this one another time because I liked my drink with more Boba balls in my drink and the quality was very good. The drink was actually for a cold Chocolate (medium - the container size in cups is on display on what size, I ordered a 16oz.) The chocolate flavor was very good and apparent. I didn't taste any bad chocolate taste or fake or powdery substance at all, could have been but I didn't taste an off-chocolate flavor. The entire drink was a 5 out of 5 good. Just in case you didn't know, CoCo is a must go. I have been a CoCo customer for three years, and for three years I have been drinking nothing but the best. The ingredients they use in their drinks are fresh, and the drinks themselves are refreshing. I've tried their bubble tea, slushies, fruit teas, milk teas (both hot and cold), yet I still feel like there is a lot more for me to try. I'm not sure if they switch up the menu seasonally, but every time I visit CoCo there is ALWAYS a new drink - which is a good thing because it keeps me interested. The original drinks remain on the menu whenever they introduce their newest items. Two of my favorite drinks: 1. Vanilla Milk Tea- Delish! Vanilla is my favorite flavor. I can eat vanilla anything. But this tea just rocks my socks. I recommend trying the hot version, which is perfect for the chilly fall and winter days. I'm pretty sure I've hit "Around The Way Girl" status with CoCo. I've been to every single location in NYC thus far and all have been consistently delicious. The CoCo franchise offers the most variety I've seen thus far. Their newest addition is matcha oat milk and chocolate oat milk. They have added more juice flavors, milk tea flavors, and the like. If you still haven't tried their pudding, it's what I would rave about the most next to their tea and juice being fresh and not powdered like others. I usually ask for a combination of pudding, boba, and jelly with my milk tea or juice. I would also dish that these suckers are only $4 for a regular which is almost a size large in my opinion. I pay double in the DMV area for boba and it's nowhere near as delicious, but unfortunately it's sometimes my only option when I'm desperately craving for one. The CoCo by my house in Taipei is awesome. For $1 you get the best fucking bubble tea. While I don't share the same enthusiasm about the NYC location, I do give them props for making their tea almost as good as what you get in Taipei. (Even if prices here are typically ridiculous NYC levels) The tapioca here is well made and the texture is pretty good. It's not perfection like their neighbors Come Buy on 28th Street & 5th Ave, but it's pretty darn close. The tea and milk combo is also very solid. It's not as fragrant or tasty as CB, but again this is close enough. Personally I think the Come Buy and CoCo in Taiwan are fairly similar, but there is a slight difference here, with the former being more true to its Taiwan brethren than the latter. However, if you're looking for good bubble tea, this is definitely a place to go. I tend to go after the lunch time rush or mid day when I'm crashing at 3pm. During those times, it's always empty. I've never been there and they were busy. This is a TOTAL Taiwanese transplant to the United States! I have seen Coco in Taiwan before, although never had it there due to the plethora of other options. I dropped by today with my friend, Phoebe, and immediately upon entering the store, I felt the authenticity. First, there was no seating (although the store had a decent standing area for customers). Second, and more importantly, the music will I was there? No Doubt's "Don't Speak" and Five For Fighting's "Superman" - you know it's Taiwanese when you hear these old classics! The menu was pretty typical of what you can find in Taiwan - your basic variety of milk teas and regular fruit teas. I ordered a Green Milk Tea w/ tapioca while Phoebe had the Grapefruit Green Tea. They had two house specials - the "2 Ladies" (milk tea w/ pudding and coffee jelly) and the "3 Guys" (milk tea with pudding, coffee jelly, and tapioca). We were able to ask for half sugar and less ice. The drinks were great and quite authentic! I think this is tied with Kung Fu tea as the most authentic tea shops in the United States. I also have to say the guy working there was such an honest guy. Phoebe did not ask for tapioca in her drink, but when he was making it, he put tapioca in her cup and she corrected him.
