You saw some photos and videos of cool dishes online and then you had to give it a try...that's how they got us too lol! Atmosphere: the lighting made it very intimate but the spacing did not. The bar was super crowded and people were very close to our table. Also the tables are close together themselves so love thy neighbor or ask for a booth for more space, but it's still tight! Note: you can get cute photos here but bring a light because the lighting is very moody, so crystal clear photos can be harder Food: the food is gorgeous but as you already know with places such as this contingent on what you order the portions could be too small to get full! *Plan to go to the drive through in advance. The scallops were great and hands down the greatest thing. The Cocody potatoes were not seasoned & the mayonnaise could introduce some sodium, but dipping for flavor should not be assumed. The sea bass was cooked properly, but the mushroom risotto lacked flavor and wasn't the right texture...let's cut to the chase, it was watery. Overall...I'd give it a 4 out of 5 for effort, but wouldn't call it a favorite just yet! read more

A stunning night out at the latest lavish playground for Houston's gorgeous and glamorous...and I guess they were feeling the holiday spirit, because they even let me sneak in. Cocody (1971 W. Gray), named after a tony district of Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire (birthplace of one of the owners), just opened in Houston's own Cocody--River Oaks--and judging from last night's buzz, you should expect to hear plenty about this place. Chefs Lionel Debon and David Denis used to run the show at Le Mistral in the Energy Corridor, and they have created a menu that seamlessly blends France with the Gulf Coast. The setting includes soothing palettes of pink, peach, and gold and a ceiling peppered with hundreds of brightly-lit upturned crystal champagne glasses. Playful artwork abounds, including a whimsical take on the Mona Lisa. We enjoyed the food, but I will say right awat that the highlight of our evening was the amazing service from Georgina and Phillip. Without ever being intrusive, they steered us through our evening the way the best tour guides do--the rare ones who seem sincerely in tune with delivering the best experience to you and providing you with memories as magical as the sites seen. There were some timing hiccups not at all a surprise in a new place but that were so clearly not the fault of our servers, and we were never bothered in the least, simply enjoying the electric atmosphere and endless people-watching and sips from our glorious Left Bank Bordeaux. But because he felt we had waited too long for entrees, Phillip insisted on bringing us a couple glasses of bubbles, and Georgina later comped us a dessert for the same reason. A manager came by to apologize, too. We don't tend to say no to largesse, but the apologies and comps were unnecessary (though appreciated!)--we were enjoying every second of our evening together. My husband's tolerance and cravings for unctuous foods is far greater than mine, and he was ready to start riding like Debra Winger on the mechanical bull in Urban Cowboy the fat thick slice of pan-seared Hudson Valley foie gras set atop sweetened poached pears and a gingerbread crouton, doused in a dense black currant coulis. An organic beets rosace salad, sprinkled with Montchevre cheese and a hazelnut vinaigrette was as alluring to view as to taste. For entrees, I chose a slow baked Chilean sea bass in a saffron rouille, and my husband wolfed down a Linz Heritage center cut beef tenderloin in a Selim pepper au jus. For our comped dessert, we settled on one suggested by both our wonderful servers--a house-made Italian pistachio ice cream set upon a tart meringue disc. The superb service made this meal over the top--I'm sure all the staff is superb, but I can't imagine anyone doing a better job than Georgina and Phillip. Valentines pre fixxe menu was a disaster. $190 per person. Bread was $15 for some baguettes, $18 for an Americano coffee. We asked for regular tap water, but they tried to serve $18 mineral water. We were regulars at La Mistral and super fans of their food. Last night not even sure what they gave us. The tuna was ok as was the branzino. The steak was tough, not sure what the sauce was, embedded in the mashed potatoes was sliver of fois gras which resembled a booger. Salad was 101 culinary arts school and dessert was ok. Really wanted to like this restaurant but unfortunately it didn't come through as I had hoped it would. I went with my husband and baby for lunch on a Friday. It was busy but not packed. There were still a lot of empty tables. We had a reservation and was promptly seated. The decor was pretty with the glass flower lighting and pink cushy seats. We ordered the businesses lunch which consisted of a salad (smallest salad I have ever seen. It was spring mix with tomatoes and vinaigrette dressing), a clump of purple potatoes that looked like an alien sea creature, and the sea bass etouffee (dry and flavorless). It all came out on a cafeteria tray. We also ordered the pasta with clams. Don't remember the official name. It tasted like what you think it would taste like. A bit too heavy on a salt and butter. So why the one star review? The service was exceptionally slow. It took us 25 minutes to finally flag down the waiter to get our order in. And during the entire lunch it was impossible to get his attention. He was very attentive to the large party behind us but somehow just skipped over us after speaking with the large party. The bus boys had to help us out multiple times to get our waiter. We almost asked for our dessert to go knowing that it would probably take another 20 minutes for it to come out. Our waiter told us that it should be super quick since it was premade but it was another 15 minutes before getting the dessert. To summarize: this place is only pretty to look at, snap a few pics, but the food and service is seriously lacking. read more

The impeccable service, lovely ambiance, and superior gourmet delights are layered one after another to create such a wonderful experience. We decided to explore the menu and ordered a variety of starters and appetizers. Everything was presented with deliberate attention to detail, and dazzled our senses. Nothing disappointed - I had room for the the Jumbo Crab Au Gratin - served with a tasty chablis wine sauce, spinach and breadcrumbs as my main course. Went to Cocody for a friend's birthday and it was THE BEST experience! The food and drinks were great, the restaurant is absolutely stunning, and we had the best waiter ever. His name was Will McMillan and he was phenomenal. He was super nice and fun, gave us great food/drink recommendations, was so helpful and considerate of my and my friend's food allergies.. he was simply the best. We were the last table there and the entire staff was incredibly kind. And shout out to the chefs for making substitutions for our allergies. while the restaurant was beautiful, the hostesses had absolutely no clue. we had a party reservation and checked in 20 minutes early, we then had to wait an additional 30 minutes for them to even have a table ready for our group.
